An Improbable 3 Game Win Streak
Look back at all three games, how did we win ANY of them? It’s almost as if each game is just a collection of individual, separate moments. And yet somehow, each moment connects to one another at the end for a victory. Nate Schierholtz comes off the bench clearly with his head not in the game, and gets picked off. Idiot. So, of course, Nate wins the game for us. Hero.
I honestly can’t remember a season that had this many entertaining games. And it’s not just that we are in a pennant race, these games have just been unbelievable…..
There have been a lot of documented things that didn’t work out this year: Timmy, Pablo, Wellenmeyer as the 5, DeRosa hurt, Rowand sucking, Franchez hovering just above the brink of *below averageness*….the list is a mile long. And yet we’re about to take over first place. How?
This is a gutty-ass team that refuses to ever give up. The season has evolved to the point where each player knows someone on the team will step up and deliver–the only question is who it’s gonna be. That’s a very cool place to be in September…….
A sign of a championship caliber caliber is winning games when it looks like you are finished. We always saw that with the Niners in the 80s, especially the late 80s. Tehre many games they could have folded it in, but they would find the most improbable ways to pull a game out…remember the Montana to Rice late, late TD in Philly in 1989?
The Giants in ’89 also had that abiltiy to pull games out of their ass and we saw that now two times on this road trip, but Saturday’s “Miracle at the Ravine” (TM) was one of the greatest wins in SF Giants history.
The thing about the Niners, GH, is they usually had a 17 point lead going into the 4th quarter. They had some come-from-nehinders, but for the most part, they simply crushed their opponens.
the only question is who it’s gonna be

Velez?
Why not Velez??
Exactly
Haven’t checked out Baggs and the commenters over there in a long time….do they still bash Bochy and Sabean now that the team is poised to win the Division?
As to comments end of thread last night, the parents involvement with getting kids a scholarship is in direct proportion to the growth of the club team year round BS. Kids play on club baseball teams in summer and fall, girls volleyball is the same, and basketball does too. There are just so few scholarships actually handed out, they only go the most elite (and the schools know these kids before they hit HS), and parents run their kids to different events all across the country, all year long. And I question how much real coaching goes on at the club level and how much the kids learn from coaches who only want to win to increase their cred, etc.. Whether they actually have fun, of course, is irrelevant
There have been three major turning points this season:
1) Signing Burrell in early June to have a legit cleanup hitter in the lineup;
2) Trading Bengie and making Posey the starting catcher; and
3) Madison Bumgarner taking command of the 5th spot in the rotation…
We might also look back after this hopeful playoff run at the game on August 30 where our starting pitching had been scuffliing not just in the week leading up to that game agaisnt the Rockies but for the entire month of August. Sanchez threw a gem giving up one run in 8 innings and even though we blew the game on that crazy broken bat triple over Ross’ head, that may have been the ultimate turning point of all turning points getting out starting pitching back on track and that is how we will win the West and any playoff series…on the back of our pitching.
In the last week, even with Zito’s performace, our starting pitcher ERA is 2.10 and without Zito, a measly 1.46. Our bullpen since last Monday night is a devastating .85!
Sanchez may have opened his mouth too far in early August but his performance on August 30 may have righted the sinking starting pitching staff and turned the entire season around.
Another big turning point was inserting Torres in as a starter and the leadoff guy…I have a feeling we will split these next two in AZ and SD will do the same against LA (equaling my prediction last week that we will go 5-2 and the Padres 2-5 leading up to the Padres series) and we will go into San Diego a game out and ready to control our fate!
I think you could add the signing of Huff also.
That was the biggest tyurning point before the season began, I was trying to focus on when we went from middle of the pack in the season to making the in-season turnaround.
But let’s be thankful that Sabean’s first target Nick Johnson did not happen. If we signed Nick Johnson, they would not have signed Huff…
Also, the Pads losing streak was a bit of a tuning point.
Quick shout out to native New York born jazz saxophonist Sonny Rollins, 80 years old today, and one of the few survivors still recording and playing today who got his start in the late 50s. Always a great soloist and tremendous live performer who continues to tour and come to the Bay Area every year.
and he’s made some great records late in his career, on top of his mid-20th classics.
I’ve seen Sonny a handful of times. One night, I think it was at the old Opera house, he came out before the band, turned off the stage mics and blew. I think almost every song ever written was thrown into that solo. It was an incredible night.
Happy birthday “Newk”.
Willied, very interesting. I had this exact conversation with my father-in-law last night. We know of a family that has their 4th grade girl now doing travel soccer, which is just huge in Virginia. They are paying $1300 just to have their daughter on this club team..fucking ridiculous. Not one of these girls will ever turn into any type of college player. Let alone some type of professional.
And we also have a good friend that coaches a number of boys club teams. The whole existence of these club teams is to perpetuate this myth among parents that their kid is about to become the next great thing in their particular sport. This then creates this myth that you have to pay coaches of all things for elementary school club teams. It is beyond preposterous.
My father-in-law coached my brothers-in-law in soccer as kids and then the aforementioned friend who coaches all these club teams used to coach their club team for free. So the cost was minimal. Instead of relying on this myth that your kid may be the next big thing, my one brother-in-law went on to star and win a national championship at UVA and was eventually drafted in the first round by the LA Galaxy but injuries ruined the end of his college and professional career.
But it was not because he played for some great organized club team and great paid coach. He was one in a million athelete that was born with the skill. These idiot parents that want to live their fantasy sports lives through their kids will eventually just burn out their kids on that particular sport and lose focus on what shoudl be their ultimate goal of getting an education and pursuing a career they will find rewarding.
Whoever it was that picked Nate to do something yesterday, good call. I damn near forgot he was even on the team.
My only nervousness going into the Padres series is our hitting right now…can we please give Huff a rest?
We always struggle hitting in San Diegoii and we have three night games I believe. Torres is been colder than Huff, he should get a day off before that series as well.
How bout Ross getting a start and leading off one day in AZ? I still want to see Posey hitting third and can Pablo pull his head out before Thursday?
Huff went 2-5 and nearly hit a 3 run homer yesterday.
I want him fresh for that Padre series..I dont know if 2-5 yesterday has turned around a bad 30 games or so….I also just think he would be more productive further down the order right now.
“Whoever it was that picked Nate to do something yesterday, good call.”
I was going to post Nate, but Loo beat me to it. 🙂
Damn team is resilient. They have had some soul crushing losses and some wild, improbable wins. But doubt there were any losses worse than the game against Colo last week or any wins more improbable than Sat night’s game in LA. Down 4 zip in the 7th at the latrine, that could go down as the pivotal moment in a season with many ups and downs.
Big win for the Pads last night. Expect that the Dogs will go quietly tonight against Latos, so with youknowwho tomorrow, a big game for Tim tonight.
Man, how big is this weekend’s series against San Diego shaping up to be? The best news of all may be that Zito ISN’T pitching. Our four best guys are going, and it’s time to put these Padres in their place.
Thank god that Zito will be nowhere near that series….
I am an under-appreciated genius and it’s starting to annoy me. I also called Saturday’s comeback at 4-0 and last week’s Travers winner at 7-1. Ignore me at your own peril. Won’t be long before one of my blockbuster trades goes through.
Lol!
Blockbuster trades?
Sleepless in Seattle for Gone With the Wind?
GH: Nice analysis. I’ll bet that sigh of relief last night in north suburban Tijuana, when they broke that ten game schneid, could be heard clear past San Juan Capistrano. Yes, they will probably split with the Bums and Timmy will have to remain in his reversion to form tonight against Enright. Boy, teams are coming up with good young pitchers all over the place…now the Snakes with him and Kennedy and Hudson. Does anyone have hope for Mr. Zits against that guy Thursday night? Good thing is that Zito is not scheduled against the Dagos, so those matchups look like 3 of 4 is doable.
Did anyone catch Schulman’s table on the recent string of scoreless innings by Giants pitchers? 25 consecutive since Jay Gibbons smacked that 3-run dinger offa Cain. Giants right now are reminding me of that horse who can smell the oats in his stable and is going full gallop for the homestead. It seemed like through June they essentially did not know who they were. July the hitting came on. August they reverted to something like one of their mid-decade teams with starting pitching nowhere to be found. With the onset of September Timmy rediscovered himself and since then its been full speed ahead.
Couple dozen to go. Twelve on the road. Dozen at home. Three of each are against NL Central clubs ~Brewers at China Basin and Cubs at Wrigley. So far this season the Giants have enjoyed major ownage of the Central. Biggest potential stumbling block will be that last road trip against those Cubbies in their cozy confines and against the pesky Rox playing humidor ball. But Ubaldo is NOT pitching against the Reds the next couple games, so maybe that bunch can be taken down a peg or two.
Will that 4-2 over the LaBumbos give the Dagos new life? Doubt it. Their young pitchers are running on fumes and the weekend series will feature both Garland and Correia.
Matt Cain gave up 4 runs to the Dodgers in the 4th inning Saturday. He finished up with 3 shutout innings and the pen finished up the last 2 more.Sunday’s nine innings of shutout ball was then topped by yesterdays 11 innings of ZEROS.That’s 25 consecutive innings on the ROAD,in which Giant pitchers have not allowed a runner to cross the plate. You pitch like that you are going to win, and it’s gonna be a division title.Keep on rolling boys, keep on rolling!
I see Snark is now giving Posey credit for pitch calls ( Casilla)…Look, fuck: he gets credit for al the pitch calls or none. Got it?
But, yes, nice job. Thank goodness the fucker didn’t hit one out before they got around to a breaker.
Now i’m down to charting out the rotation schedule for the next 24. Every pitcher except Bumgarner gets 5 more starts. Here’s the damage assessment: Zito starts against Arizona tomorrow; kicks off the next homestand against the Bums on the 14th; faces Milwaukee at home on the 19th; at (cringe) the Box of Rox on the 25th and gets the Dagos at home on the first of October.
Must we write off all five games? Or will Dr. Zicasso come outta hiding and show up instead of Mr. Zits in one or two contests? Outside of that one fly in the ointment it looks as if we had the rotation we were expecting going into the season. Credit Sabean for picking up Ray, Ramirez and Lopez. Those additions to the pen have made that crew airtight lately. With Runzler as an extra loogie and Mota back in case of zitoid mopup duties and suchlike, Bochy can mix and match to his heart’s content. He sure did a good job of that in late innings yesterday.
Looks like Lopez has replaced Affeldt as the first lefty out of the pen.
Even in a DP spot…
Yeah, but he hasn’t supplanted Gomez as the punch line name du jour.
That’s all that really matters in the grand scheme of things.
Stix, if Zito takes a Zit on Wednesday, Bochy should really consider skipping Zito in his next turn in that first game against the Dodgers.
If Cain pitches that first Dodger game, he will still be on normal 4-day rest. Zito could then pitch the middle game in the Brewer series and Cain piches the third game against the Brewers also on normal rest.
Then skip Zito again so that Cain pitches the first game in Colorado and Sanchez and Bum pitch the last two in Colorado. If we had not clinched by the AZ series at home in the last week or against the Padres on the last weekend, I would go with a rotation for those 6 games of Lincecum-Cain-Sanchez agaisnt AZ (again Cain would be on complete normal rest) and Bum-Lincecum-Cain against the Padres to win the NL West. If the series is clinched before that Sunday, let Zito pitch and then we are set for Cain to lead of the the playoffs hopefully at home against the wildcard winner Braves.
Cain-Sanchez-Lincecum (Tim pitches in the first road playoff game) would be my preferred playoff rotation. If we were up 2-1, I would be willing to throw Bum in game 4 and then Cain pitches 5 at home. Or if you are down 1-2, Cain pitches Game 4 and Lincecum pitches Game 5.
The playoff rotation will be FOUR pitchers. Until you fucking understand that basic, you are going nowhere.
Twin, you did not read my entire post. I did not necessarily mean I would go with a three-man rotation. I only would do so if we got to a game 4 and were behind in the series and facing an elimination game, where I would not want Zito or Bum pitching an elimination game.
I realize that we are likely going four-man rotation, but I would want Cain-Sanchez-Lincecum being the first three to go…
so was that basic enough of an explanation for you Twin?
The order of the rotation is not an issue now, and won’t be until they see how it proceeds over the rest of the regular season. Basic is what YOU need. I understand these things. You don’t if you’re setting the rotation now. #1 could still be Cain OR Lincecum. Zito/Bum/Sanchez are all in the mix for the 3rd guy. And all for the 4. And any of those three are in “contention” to be left out of the rotation altogether.
Twin, this is a blog…to express one’s opinions. I am expressing my opinion what I would like to see if we made the playoffs and I was also trying to speculate that Linceucm may pitch that last Saturday game, which might then prevent him starting a playoff series.
Hopefully we clinch much earlier and they all rest that last weekend, allowing Bochy a full swing of options on the rotation. If we start on the road in Philly and say we win the first game, I would not be shocked to see Zito start the second game on the road.
by the way, where am I trying to go?
GiantHead has already turned into Gene Mauch with 4 weeks to go yet.
Maybe we can pick up Art Mahaffey or Ray Culp…
The only chore for Bochy right now is limiting Bumgarner any way he can to ensure he’ll be an option for the playoff rotation. Beyond that, it is one day at a time.
As to Affelt and Lopez, it’s not a #1 or #2 loogy now. It will be a match up and workload issue.
I would love to give Bum a rest as well, but if Zito blows up tomorrow, how can they have any confidence to pitch him in a big game in Colorado or the last week?
I don’t know where you get your information from , but I don’t like it.
What I’m trying to help you people with is a reality: they have previously stated that Bumgarner will have an innings limit. Do the fucking math. He pitched a total of 141 last year. 20 percent over is considered the limit, although the Giants push that more than most teams. So he’s there NOW ( 168 innings) with a month to go. Unless they totally and completely ignore all safety precautions, they have to at least skip a couple starts to have it feasible to pitch him in the post season. If he takes all his regular starts, he’s at almost 200 before the playoffs even begin. Based on what sports medicos are saying, to pitch him the rest of the regular season and then the play offs would border on criminal behavior..
I think your logic is sound and back in July when we were discussing this, I thought there was a way to ge thim that rest in August. Well apparently Bochy was not comfortable with that route and obviously the bum has pitched some huge games for us in August?
How do you rest him now when we are deep in the hunt? We need to get three of four from the Padres and maybe build a lead where either Zito does not kill us or where we dont kill Bum’s arm. But I am glad you are ready to call Bochy/Sabean borderline criminals:) Just kidding Twin, no need to go ape shit…
I’ve already gone into this. Pay attention. They rest him some between now and the postseason or they will face one of two options:
Shut him down then or
Pitch him despite him being about 40 percent over his previous high.
Look, I despise Zito MORE than any of you do. But this is all fueled by Zitfuck hatred. Whatever any of us thinks, the BEST scenario is for Zitshit to recover and pitch well in September, skip two Bumgarner starts, and at LEAST have him available for long relief if not starting inthe playoffs. The scenario all of you propose would have him ultimately pitching as much as 60 percent over his previous high. That WOULD be criminal.
Didn’t he have playoff innings last year?
The thing is, this could very well cost them the playoffs, Mike. SD’s in this very situation. Mainly because they have a shitload of kids as starters.
You look at a guy like Cain, who walked in and pitched ~158 innings as a 19 year old in A, and AA.
At 20, he threw ~145 in AAA, and ~45 in SF (~190 total).
At 21, he threw 190 in the bigs. That’s his low for his career.
Yeah, he’s big and strong. So is Bummie.
Yeah, they need to keep his number of pitches limited. But, I’d hate to see the G’s miss the playoffs because they didn’t start him a couple games down the stretch. Even if it’s 6 innings and they pull him. The playoffs could very well be decided by him missing a couple turns.
I’m not saying yer wrong, Mike. Just that it would suck to skip a couple turns for Bummie, and they miss the playoffs by a game . . .
That’s the rub, Mike. Rest him now, and the postseason may not happen.
I don’t think this team doesn’t have the luxury of sitting the guy.
And, yes, if fucking Buibble Boy wasn’t pitching so shitty (6 run lead? I’ll walk 3 guys and give up 5 runs. Tight game? I’ll walk the bases loaded and give up a single to the fucking pitcher), it would settle my stomache a lot more than it is now.
Tonight’s game is a MUST WIN!!!!
Oooops. Wrong blog . . .
Spot the double-negative . . .
You know what I mean.
Chucklefuck: Cain’s 190 represented almost exactly a 20 percent increase from the 158. Bumgarner is at that 20 percent NOW. And you forget, at the end of last year his velocity was at that 87-89 that had everrybody fucking freaked.
If yesterday is any indication, the intention is to pitch him as long as he can go. I think their plan is to pitch him all out from now to the end of the year and shut him down then, postseason or not. I’m not necessarily endorsing that plan, just saying that’s what I think it is. There is no way that in good conscience they could pitch him 190 innings or so in the regular and then even more in the postseason after a previous high of 141.
that is actually sensible…what are the rules in the playoffs? Can they keep him off the playoff roster for the first series and then use him in the second series while someone went on the injured list?
That scenario sounds plausible, Michael. They may have already made the decision. Zito is the one screwing it up.
The playoffs are the goal. Get there using him if that’s what it takes and then hope for the best from Zito.
I didn’t forget. I just didn’t want to bring it up.
Well, he’s at 167 innings.
20% over last year’s 141 is 169.2, so he’s got 2 innings left. 2 starts would put him at ~180. That would mean skipping 3 starts.
Tough call, but skipping 2 would be the likely outcome.
He makes all his scheduled starts puts him ~200 innings.
Chucklefuck, you’re just repeating what I said now.
Good conscience? Nobody gives a shit about that crap. Hand the kid the ball and tell’em to go get’em.
And the reason his velocity was down was not an arm issue, it was ALL mechanical. Kid was blowing gas yesterday. Consistently hitting 94. Old Farmer John is in a groove. Ain’t no stopping us now. Hey? I just made a funny. Groove? Ain’t no stopping us? I’m declaring that our theme song for the rest of the year:
San Francisco Giants : Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVKjC_simy8&feature=related
Yanks have a similar dilemma with Hughes, but they have a cushion. We don’t.
Great Dennis! That was actually the NY Rangers (a professional hockey team) locker room rally song during their improbable run to the Cup Finals in 1979.
I believe McFadden was shot to death a couple of years ago. That stopped him.
See, it was even performed by some dude named “Whitehead.”
That’s gotta be a winner. Ain’t No Stoppin Us Now!
It isn’t the total innings, it’s the stressfull ones….the innings in the minors to start the year, not that stressfull…
Denny, mindless and idiotic LU bashing is your forte. Stick to that, I’ll handle the thinking..
Alex Smith : 18-28 240 yds. 2 TDs 0 INTs. 1 cry from Soph for Nate. Book it!
Minor league innings count in the equation. I didn’t make up the 20 percent over limit, asshole. As I said, they’re there NOW. They’d be placing themselves in legal jeopardy to go 40-50 percent or more over. They have to make a decision now, I suspect it’s been made: we won’t see him in the postseason.
I’d bet his agent would put them on notice if they pitched him the rest of the way and didn’t shut him down. This is untold millions of dollars.
I’ll check back if any of Room A posts, otherwise I’ll leave you for the day. Have fun.
The decision is an ongoing one…and THEY”LL make it…not you putz.
Eat shit or better yet, haybale your ass-the decision on Bumgarner better already have been made. I’m the one pointing out the playoff rotation is far from even the thinking stage beyond Madbum’s status as to even being available.
My post above stands….Go back thru the archives of when I joined this “predicting” group of bloggers….
If I say an ant can pull a plow, don’t ask how, just hitch him up.
You are the worst liar in the group-still claiming you never vehemently disputed my assertion that Garko wouldnever be back OR even offered arb.
Not for the faint at heart!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWMcEX1mlqE
Urban is doing a chat on the CSNBA website. I’m lobbing him Zito bombs. I’ll be shocked if he answers one….
He’s probably just calling the cops.
He actually answered the most tame question I lobbed. Didn’t answer the one about how/when to get rid of Zito. One of the harder hitting questions on this Chat was “Are you flying down to San Diego for this weekend series”?
[Comment From snarkk: ]
If the Giants make the playoffs, could they get by on a 3 man rotation? Or are they going to rest/skip Bum now in hopes of using him in the playoffs? Zito is so bad, what would be the point of giving him a PO start — Bochy doesn’t have him on a short leash, it’s a shock collar…
Tuesday September 7, 2010 12:54 snarkk
12:56 Mychael Urban CSN: Three-man for the DS, four going forward. Bumgarner will get rest if there’s room for it, but the way he’s pitching, I think they’ll ride him. And if Zito doesn’t snap out of it, there’s no guarantee he’ll even make the playoff roster. You can;t ask him to relieve. He’s not programmed that way.
So let’s make sure we have WSWFuck’s call: “everything is a maybe. Book it”
Mike, Anything over what he’s already thrown is now over 20%.
They aren’t going to shut him down NOW.
2 more starts puts him around 30% over.
Anything more than that, and they are in the 40% range.
Regardess, they’re stretching him.
You keep saying post season is out, and that’s fine, but based on your numbers, he should be shut down now.
Hasn’t Bum also said in the press he wants to keep pitching? I doubt then that his agents are saying anything to management…
So to surmise..if Zito lays a Zit sandwich tomorrow, how many think Zito should be skipped in two of his next three starts to let Cain pitch the first game aginst the Bums at home next week and the first game in Colorado instead of Zito?
The way it stands now, Zito would pitch the second game in Col, not the first. I’d love it if they skipped him, simply because I’ll be at Coors for that one.
Chuclefuck, read my posts. No one is going to freak over 3 or 4 starts. But they can’t do both: the rest of the way in the regular season AND the play offs. They can rest him some between now and the end of the regular season or shut him down for the postseason. That’s why I’m *informing* you that it’s not a manana decision.
They may HOPE that they roll past the Pads quickly and can sit him down then to save him for the PS.
Mike…you’re so full of shit sometimes it’s disgusting…All I said regarding Garko is he would’ve been peanuts to sign, while YOU thought he was expensive…Blow your smoke out you’re own ear.
You are lying, you said there was no way he wouldn’t be offered arb and be back. You were vehement. Anyway, no Room A at all today, just the naked and the dead.
another of your falsehoods…
Gutty-ass!
3 or 4 starts puts him in your CRIMINAL zone, Mike. Yer fucking words and numbers.
What I’m saying is they are stuck. Rock, meet hard place. 4 more starts and he’s in the 40% area that you say is criminal. . . 195 innings.
Yes, they want to rest him. If they can’t afford to, they won’t. And he’ll throw 190+ innings.
I haven’t seen any indication that they’ll be resting Bum in the short term. When it was discussed in the media a few weeks ago, the resounding comments were that he’s built like a horse and it will depend on the number of “stressful” innings pitched. If they make the post season, a decision will be made then, not now. Until then, the Giants will ride the horse.
I said at the outset that the Giants push it more than most teams, Chucklefuck. 25 or so innings is tolerable but they would then have to shut him down.
He will not pitch in the post season if he makes the rest of his regular season starts.
The best thing SF can do when Bum starts is score some damn runs, early and often. Then, they can limit him to 5, maybe 6 frames, or around 75-80 pitches, then make it a BP mop up laugher. Chances of that look slim, unfortunately. There’s no candidate in the Pen NOW that could take, say, a 4 inning skip start in place of Bum. The only candidates to stick in for a pitch and hope game on the 40 man are Pucetas and Sosa. I don’t see a problem with one of those if they somehow got a coupla game lead after Sept 20 or so….
Snarkk, amazingly, is the closest to making sense. All they’re doing now is not worrying about it because they don’t HAVE TO yet. They can HOPE situations present themselves to limit him, they can skip a couple starts, whatfuckingever, but ultimately, if he is not limited he won’t pitch in October. He would be almost 50 percent over last year. No way they’d do it. Period.
“I’ll check back if any of Room A posts, otherwise I’ll leave you for the day. Have fun.”
Translation: I didn’t get enough sleep last night and am in need of a nap if I intend on making it through tonight’s game. I always put down a little towel to help catch the drool, you might give it a shot.
This Bum issue is not an issue if freekin’ Zito could even throw a fastball through wet TP. If he were even serviceable, they could find a way to spot start a Pucetas or Sosa for Bum. But, they can’t even consider it because Zito’s no better than either of those two, and you can’t have two handicapped starts out of every 5. I’d argue Pucetas or Sosa might even be better options that Zito now with the manure he’s throwing, because nobody’s seen ’em at the MLB level. Either might have that “unknown quantity” success for a start or two. Call it The Sadowski Factor…
Zito is extremely unlikely to be as bad as he was in August. I gave the scenario: he will pitch well enough to make him the 4 starter for the postseason, THEN the Monarch of the Night will destroy us all. ..
I WILL amend one thing: if he makes the rest of his regular season starts Madison will not START in the postseason, he may still make the roster as a relief picher.
. . . provided Bummie comes in after 1 inning of Bubble Boy . . .
Best time of year. I’ll watch Giants, Twins, Padres.
Reggie Bush is losing his Heisman? God, he must be so bummed. I’m sure a night with a few hookers and a quick glance of his bank statement should get him over that in no time. Also, why in the Hell would he comply and send it back? I’d be like “Fuck you guys”…..
As much as I loathe USC as a sports program, taking the Heisman away is ridiculous. The penalties on the program make sense, if one temporarily ignores that the NCAA is a corrupt organization itself. But, just because Bush’s family got the use of a house, car, whatever for a coupla years from a prospective agent, can’t take away his exploits on the field as a player. The dude was the best player in the nation. In college, he was phenomenal. One guy out of thousands gets this award every year. Surely Bush isn’t the only winner from in a rogue program — by definition all the winners are in big programs, and the only question is not how those programs cheat, but how much. Taking the trophy away won’t stop institutional cheating, only help the blue hairs in the Heisman party stiffen their ties…
Iread BFs post for today and I am thinking: Giants fans. This season is such a relief after last season. To see a true SF team coming together without a Bonds and with the pitchers looking to scare the thoughts of winning the division right out of every fan’s thinking: we are going all the way this year.
Isee his post as pretty much the feeling of us all. Amazed at the character(s); such a change from last year and yet all is good. Mired one day breakout the next.
Baseball in the NL west at its best.
And the first comments I see? “TF you are so full of shit ” and in response: “You’re a liar” proving that online communications are an exact science, maybe.
Blogging . . . go figure
Thanks for the chance to share SFGs baseball with everyone here, Craig

Mike, what’s the story behind your Twin fandom?
My father, Ray Scott, was the first play-by-play announcer for them. He was known then for football. Sent a simulated game tape to Calvin Griffith, he had never done baseball. We lived in PIttsburgh at the time, moved to Minnesota in 1961.Some of these guys have heard all the Twins’ stories a thousand times. Maybe I’ll post more if you’re interested, on a previous thread so the bored/don’t give a shit don’t have to endure it.
That’s a great story. Yeah, I’d love to read more, just lemme know where you put them.
Those stories are great… you’ll definitely enjoy them! Wouldn’t mind hearing some of them again myself.
Hey, 3bagger, did ya ever get your pictures with the kid from the comcast broadcast? ya camera hogg
I recorded the comcast replay that night and took a photo of my TV. Good enough for me.
great, I sent a couple to BF but he didn’t have your email.
Cool pics, dad.
Mom was very proud that Krukow liked his “lid” Unlike the thousands of other panda hats out there, she knitted this one herself. Marco’s first word was ball, followed by dadda, mamma and Giants.
*grins* that hat is great. Cheers all around.
Not sure what Velez comin up adds to the equation. He’s fast, but he’s a pick off threat if he PRs for somebody, and he can’t be trusted on D in a close game, unless you forget how he tends to drop can-o-corn flyballs. Gotta be extremely limited set of circumstances for him to get in a game…

Yeah Orson Welles gets the night off.But Walter Brennan back in there in R/F.
Well, with Deputy Chester in LF and Walter Brennan in RF, Torres is going to be ridin’ his horse all night into right center and left center…
Looks like Panda’s swinging at anything thrown in his direction yesterday might have earned him a day off…
Jose Guillen= Jimmy Raye
I’m sure I’m missing an idiotic connection, but go for it. WTF are you talking about?
No offense, perhaps . . .
