An Improbable 3 Game Win Streak
Look back at all three games, how did we win ANY of them? It’s almost as if each game is just a collection of individual, separate moments. And yet somehow, each moment connects to one another at the end for a victory. Nate Schierholtz comes off the bench clearly with his head not in the game, and gets picked off. Idiot. So, of course, Nate wins the game for us. Hero.
I honestly can’t remember a season that had this many entertaining games. And it’s not just that we are in a pennant race, these games have just been unbelievable…..
There have been a lot of documented things that didn’t work out this year: Timmy, Pablo, Wellenmeyer as the 5, DeRosa hurt, Rowand sucking, Franchez hovering just above the brink of *below averageness*….the list is a mile long. And yet we’re about to take over first place. How?
This is a gutty-ass team that refuses to ever give up. The season has evolved to the point where each player knows someone on the team will step up and deliver–the only question is who it’s gonna be. That’s a very cool place to be in September…….
Edd, I confess to going over the top with the doomers and gloomers and LU bashing and general ignorance of how things work. The LU bashing started my spiral into insanity. You know what ( example) : Travis was NEVER going to start against LHers. I’m his biggest fan here and even I realized this. But back when he actually was getting some playing time, sure enough some idiot would go postal because he wasn’t starting against a LHer. Or Rowand now: he’s getting the starts a 5th OFer SHOULD get,no more no less. There’s a not a goddamn mothefucking thing to bitch about with that.
Again, the LU bashers are behind: Guillen has been running well in the outfield. He’s made a play in foul territory and one deep in the RF gap Saturday that he really ran down. Range wise, Burrell is the far greater liability as we saw yesterday. Pablo has had some problems with his hips ( insert a Spash-level “Fat Panda” remark here), that’s more likely why he’s sitting than a poor night yesterday.
I would be up for a start or two for Ishi the next coupla weeks, against RHs. Huff needs a blow. Maybe tomorrow. Also, Posey looks like he could use a break right now, either on the pine or on first, or both on consecutive games. I know Whiteside is a wasted bat, but every once in a while he makes contact…
Giants did bring up Steve Decker. He can take a Whitey start.
Decker needs to measure Bonehead’s office. See if his sofa fits…
Decker would replace Bochy, wouldn’t he?
“Mwahhhh, the French . . . ”
Hilarious. But, what better recommendation for the rotgut than Orson got plastered on it…
Yeah, Decker is here to take over for Bochy, Chucklefuck. He’ll be the guy tomorrow.
Christ, it’s a joke, fuck-o . . . Bochy needs a day off?
I assume Dontrelle is not doing very well…
Casilla is a frikkin strike machine compared to what Willis has been through. Dontrelle shouldn’t and won’t get near this stretch drive, IMO. Not when you’ve got Lopez and Affeldt and Runzler. Coach him up to be a reliever over the winter, see what happens next ST. He’s not on the 40 anyway…
Why not start him once in place of Zito, just for the hell of it.
Which guy are you? The one cooking the boigers or the fuck on the phone?
I’d rather have the dead, drunken corpse of Orson Welles start before Zito.
Bumgarner was hitting 94 yesterday and they sent him out for the 8th inning. Either they have a plan to shut him down in one more start or they’re going to just fuck the innings-count and ride him till the end of the year. But the time to limit him to 6 innings was yesterday, in my opinion. I’m not second guessing Bochy I’m just saying, they have a plan that we aren’t privy too. And I am a big believer in shutting down/limiting innings of young arms— San Diego has to be killing themselves over what to do with Latos/Richard/etc. They’re fucked no matter what they do with them…..
They will cut back Latos starting tonight. As he will get hammered by LA especially coming off stomach flu/food poisioning?.He’ll be lucky to last 5 innings.
Well, let’s hope so, anyway.
No one here is a fan of Zito, but I think Micheal’s hunch is right –Zits wlll toss another decent game or two. The flip side is that Lincecum still has a 91 MPH fastball, and I doubt that he’s going to be light’s out every start for the rest of the season. He was as lucky in the first inning his last start as he was unfortunate in a couple of the recent losses.
I think Zito is totally and completely done for the year, no more good starts. He’s lost his *fastball*. He cannot get hitters out consistently enough in a full game with that 85 mph slop. He had his fastball at the very beginning of the year for about 6 weeks, then it went bye bye. Maybe next year…….
Just looked over at the Splash. Funny. Someone posted about how the Giants are playing .500 ball this season. How can you have a .558 winning percentage, 5th best in the NL, and be playing .500 ball? That’s, like, Alice in Wonderland logic
On 6/23 Zito’s ERA was 3.45 and on 8/17 it was 3.56. That covers 11 starts. He’s been throwing 86 for awhile.
Zito now pitches like Eddie Harris in Major League:
Rick Vaughan-(Seeing Harris take off his shirt revealing white stuff on his chest) What’s that shit on your chest?
Eddie Harris -(Looking at his chest) Crisco
Eddie Harris(wiping it across his head)
Eddie Harris- Bardol
Eddie Harris- Wiping it along his waist line
Eddie Harris-Vagisil.Anyone of them will get you another two to 3 inches drop on your curveball.Of course if the umps are watching me real close,I’ll rub a little jalapeo up my nose, get it runnin’,and if i need to load the ball up I just…
Eddie Harris-Wipes his nose
Eddie Harris-Wipe my nose
Rick Vaughan-You put snot on the ball?
Eddie Harris-I haven’t got an arm like you kid.I have to put anything on it I can find.Someday you will too.
Huff needs to give Zito the fuckin G string…
I was reading about how Wilson may break the Giants saves record of 48 by Beck this year. yOU KNOW, if he can keep up this quality, get enough save opportunites and the Giants reach PS, he’s seriously treading into Cy Young land
Y’know Ted, the year Shooter saved 48 (1993) I thought he should’ve won the CY. He wound up getting ZERO Cy votes, yet finished 12th in MVP voting. How the fuck do you explain that?
Ted. Could be. The cy young guys right now srd ubaldo by default and maybe tim Hudson (don’t know how many wins he’s got, I’m in the car). If Wilson hit 48 saves I don’t think he gets it. Bug 5o? Maybe. But go look at eck’s cy young year, his numbers were comical. Wilson doesn’t have that
Why don’t you watch the fuckin’ road, pal?
The ERAs pretty close to Eckersley’s. But, yeah, I don’t think 48 will do it either. I’m just saying his personal season is starting to wander in that territory. But Loo pointed out, Beck got ZERO votes. Incredible. If Wilson keeps the ERA down and creeps towards 50 saves, he’s gotta get *some* votes at least
There’ve been so many things that have held us down
But now it looks like things are finally comin’ around,
I know we’ve got a long long way to go,
And where we’ll end up,
I don’t know
Atl el foldo?
well that won’t help Franchez OBP…
AH
Jints look good in BP. What time’s the game start?
Hell Yes the thong is Working well tonight Huffster big 2run HR to start!
Huffmania!
Oooh yeah, brother!
Quick bat, so much like Moises.
Some well roped balls that inning.Toress double Huff’s jack,And two more potential HR’s from Posey’s (double) off the wall and Guillen’s single? off the wall.
I wonder if Guillen’s shot woulda been a HR in SF, and if Posey’s double woulda been a triple.
Ah, some folks were rough on Orson Welles. The guy was a theatrical genius, who got screwed over by the Hollywood studios, and blackballed. He was decades ahead of his time.
I liked him in Mork and Mindy…!
Feels like old times with Timmy dealing and us beating on Az
For some reason the #55 always reminds me of Doug Buffone.
Yeah Tim’s got that no no stuff feeling tonight.Every pitch has a purpose and he’s delivering that purpose.
Zumie, “Chimes at Midnight” is one of my favorite movies. All of his films are worth at least one look.
Chimes, Charlie.
Yeah, chimes…
Are you kidding me? That was one hell of a matador pick job by Huff! Amazing job by this guy all year.
how ’bout that
Mole Power!
Freddy?!!!
Michael is scratching his head, going no fucking way. 😉
I’m just a little nervous – seems like every time Freddy hits one out, it screws up his stroke…oh well, focus on the positive – Way to go, Franchez!!!
In OSF math, isn’t Tim still tossing a no hitter?
No, but he’s now eligible for a save…
Loo, you’re a fucking genius.
Thats nice Burrell
A laugher?
Atta bat Pat
🙂
Likin’ this!!!
Finally expose this chap Enright.
Posey and Pat. A snap and a Splat. Bout time Enright paid for his sins at China Basin.
Enright wears chaps???
You’re reaching again, Ted.
Sorry. It’s my nature
I’m delighted to have Fruckie do something. I’ve wished poor results for only two players ever here: Zito and Whitseide. And if my wish had been answered the team would be better off. In Whitey’s case, his earlty hittng success this year fooled them, a deal should have been made for a better back up. With Zito, well, it’s obvious. The best thing would have been something like 0-32 the first year.
That was an amazing productive out in the first.
Don’t recall you leading a parade for Nate the Wait
Don’t know what you are referring to. There are PLENTY of players I haven’t thought would succeed, I’ve never wanted Nate to fail, however. Mostly I’ve been right, both ways. As I’ve indicated previously, now seminars will begin costing money. I’ve been too generous with product and expertise as it is. Prices start at $4.95 for minor clues.
Is there an annual pricel?
Timmy’s changeup is one killer out pitch. KKKKKKKK.
I’m liking this rag-tag group of misfits and cast-offs more every day.
I’d sub for Torres and Guillen this inning to give them a rest and get Nate and Rowand some views, maybe even Burriss for Sanchez.
At this point, I’d change Chan for Moto and move Spade in for Marlowe
Don’t know Ted, Marlowe is usually drunk in the later innings.
Me Too Ed….Throw Ishi at 1st for Huff as well.
Agreed–could’ve pinch-hit the 1-2-3 hitters together in the last half-inning.
I’d put Ronnie Lott in as well…
Just getting here; been heads down working [at home; now THAT is discipline!].
I nominate Magnus’s post — is it a post? — as POTD. Well said, Magnus Flavorus. (I know, what a suckup I am.)
How long did Timmy have a no-no going?
TedSpe, I never got that Chron . . . but I’m okay.
As in chronic?
So..toss?
naw, keep and send, pls; Magnus can give you my email or use spindox at yahoo
Shit, his problems are supposed to occur in the first 3 innings?
Might hold off on some of those subs, boys.
1st Visit:
Bochy: Fucked?
Lincecum: No.
Bochy: K
2nd Visit:
Bochy: Fucked
He was sailing along, when suddenly the roof caved in.
-Bob Murphy
Down Moonlight Bay?
People just don’t learn the apples before the cart saying…
Tim was pitching much better while I was conducting a FF draft. Maybe he didn’t like my pick of David Akers, PK from Philly in the 26th rd. I rather like the lefty myself.
LOOGY!
Thus far I doubt that any deadline acquisitions have helped anyone more than the loogy and the roogy.
nor the moogy and the floogy
I’ll take my floogy over easy. Thank you very much.
Dodgers cut it to 2-1, 6th inning.
I’m not watching–how did Tim look? He gave up a ‘cycle’. Were they ropes? Was he tired? What was different?
Huff stopped wearing the thong. He’s now going comando
And Bochy has just been hired to play Howard in the remake of TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE
In case anyone missed it, Braves lost. Phils won and are in 1st.
Wow. If Comcast is going to push a chump like Radnich in an ad, at least it’s nice to hear a few bars of Grover Washington blowing in Just the Two of Us.
LFOGY tonight for Lopez. Lost in the Fog! One of my favorite horses of all time.
That freekin Gomez is nails….
Gomez!!
Certainly isn’t hurting Sabean’s chances for Exec of the Yr.
