A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Duck and Cover Time…..

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 8, 2010

It’s a good thing this game is being played in a dome. Otherwise, anyone walking within 3 miles of the stadium would have to wear a hardhat to protect themselves from the bombs Zito is going to be giving up tonight. I haven’t checked this but I would guess that in the first month of the season Zito’s fastball was averaging at least 3 or 4 mph faster than it has in the last 2 months of the season. His fastball is gone people, at least for the rest of this year. And when you’re throwing 84-85 that just isn’t going to cut it. He’ll get a few guys out but over the course of the game he will leave several of those fatties over the plate and Arizona will punish him……

He’s had one win since June 12th and he hasn’t won a road game since the middle of May. Arizona is -130, Giants +110. How could anyone of sound mind bet on the Giants at a paltry +110 with those horrific stats to consider?

All right, I hope I’ve successfully pulled of the “reverse jinx” and Zito pitches a beauty tonight……

Shocked that Bochy went for a runner in “only” the 7th. This tiger has new stripes.

I have missed a lot of games lately so maybe I’m just wag off base on this. I can see guillen’s obp/bs etc but I just don’t see it. He’s got what? 1 bomb? He strikes out almost every time I watch him hit. Again, I’ve missed a lot of at bats the last 10 days or so.

This dude is faster than Rajai Davis. That neck tat has to go tho

Did u see that lead? Ford doesn’t give a shit about reading the move. He’s gonna go as long as the pitcher goes home. And he’s so quick he can get back no problem even with that monster lead

  5. TellItGoodbye's avatar TellItGoodbye said, on September 8, 2010 at 8:22 pm

Probably needed another lefty or two in the lineup considering how the Giants have flailed at the slider all night. Second guessing admittedly

  6. TellItGoodbye's avatar TellItGoodbye said, on September 8, 2010 at 8:26 pm

OK … so even a lefty can flail. I guess he wasn’t watching the game so was surprised at another changeup

True, but by the 7th you should be laying the pitch he’s been throwing out of the strikes zone all night

Another situation where Torres will be bunting next year.

No effort to get on base. No walks, no bunts, no leaning into one and certainly no hits.

You don’t want a guy with 60+ extra base hits fucking around bunting.A guy like Fruckie? Absolutely. You don’t need great speed to drag bunt. Burriss is another, guys with no pop…

    • TellItGoodbye's avatar TellItGoodbye said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:01 pm

I dont disagree entirely, but then don’t lead him off if you’re not asking him to do whatever he can to get on base. An extra base hit is virtually the same value as a bunt hit in this situation, and the bunt ought to be more likely in Torres’ case. And again, threat of a bunt creates opportunities. I’m not saying he should be bunting to lead off the game, but it really should be part of his game.

Pretty funny Dodger game … the give the Padres three baserunners in a row. Refuse to catch a popup, refuse to cover first on a bunt, then throw too late on a bunt. The Padres’ forfeit lineup has met a team less willing to win!

Infield in, weak line drive gets over everyone, left fielder doesn’t even bother to throw, two runs in foe the Pads after a bloop two sac bunts and a soft line drive that almost bounced on the infield dirt. Amazing.

That’s was my question in the previous inning. What was the reasoning in pulling Sandoval? From the radiocast, sounded like he’s been hitting them on the nose. Given the weak offense, not sure you play so much for defense…

They pinch ran Ford for Pablo. I think they were only down 1 at that point. It wasn’t a defensive replacement.

Y’all aren’t enjoying a thorough embarrassment of the Doghairs.

The Giants win 5 of 7 from the Pads or they don’t deserve it anyway. So yeah, 3 of 4 is the call, assuming Latos pitches Sunday.

  40. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:20 pm

One could complain about 2 outta 3 in Phoenix, but I’ll take it. LA freakin laid down like dogs in San Diego. Giants must at least split this weekend to keep close as Pads go on that long roadie starting next week. Split won’t be EZ, but they’ve got to get it done…

    • Cal_Stim25's avatar Cal_Stim25 said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:23 pm

Sanchez, Bummie, Lincecum, Cain. 3/4. Book it.

    • TellItGoodbye's avatar TellItGoodbye said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:23 pm

Seriously … why is a split no easy (by MLB standards). Do you see the Padres lineup? Three of the four starters are extremely hittable. C’mon … enough with the respect.

      • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:35 pm

Pads have eaten the Giants lunch this year, I friggin respect that. Now the Pads have taken 3 straight, probably have some confidence, and they’re at home. A split would be fine, plenty of games left after that. Taking 3 outta 4 is gravy. Giants absolutely can’t lose 3 of 4 and be 4 back after the weekend…

      • Cal_Stim25's avatar Cal_Stim25 said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:38 pm

Pads were given three straight. Dodgers played like a fucking AAA squad.

  41. EdGdsnInExile's avatar EdGdsnInExile said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:20 pm

2 and fucking 9 against those bastards makes me irate. How the hell did that happen?
2 and 9? Jesus H. Christ. OK, We split in SD and leave the zoo 2 GB. Then we go at least 6-3 vs LA/MIL/CHI while the Friars go 4-6 vs COL/STL/LA The Rockies will stay hot however and by Friday the 24, we’ll have a 1/2 game lead on both the Friars and Rox. That’s way too tense and nerve-racking. But it all starts with a split in SD.

SD is a MUST SPLIT !

  46. TellItGoodbye's avatar TellItGoodbye said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:35 pm

What the hell does Kuiper mean when he says they’ll play like their hair’s on fire. They don’t have a “hair’s on fire” offense. And if the implication is they will do something they haven’t done already … well, I wouldn’t understand why they would be waiting. So I won’t look for it.

  47. TellItGoodbye's avatar TellItGoodbye said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:37 pm

Giants have given away virtually every game the Padres have won against them. They stop giving them away, they win. In that sense, it’s pretty simple

  48. stixwiz's avatar stixwiz said, on September 8, 2010 at 9:52 pm

Call it the Zito effect ~ on the Giants offense. That third run was the killer and the defensive glitches ran a close second. Except for Freddy’s bomb, the hitters just were not up for it. RentMan and Uribe were putrid in the 9th. It reminded me of some of those games against the Padres where they were frozen solid by a good young pitcher and then when they had a chance against a couple of so-so relievers they just couldn’t make it happen. I wonder if Burrell would have been the better call for the PH role in the seventh as Ishi hasn’t been getting it done lately ~ oh well, we’ll never know.

We’ve got our four best starters going in north suburban Tijuana over the last leg of the road trip. Unless the batting totally goes south, i can’t see anything less than a split. Fuck the Dodgers. For my birthday present next week i want to see them macerated in a three game sweep. If Lady Billingsley is pitching, may he throw like he did against the Dagos tonight.
