No Excuses
Today, I don’t want to hear about Zito’s Law, or lack of run support, or how much money he makes, or the fact that he’s 112-0 when the team scores 16 runs for him or whatever. Somehow the Giants just need to go out and figure out how to get a win despite who’s on the mound…..
Reading the comments and box score it looks lke I didn’t miss much last night. Sounds like Lincecum was a bit pissed to be lifted but I don’t see any news there. Dude is ultra competitive? A bit of a red ass? Wow, there’s a revelation.
I’m interested to see who Bochy runs out there today. Too many changes sends a message of panic to the club but the current group hasn’t been getting it done. I wasn’t high on Torres when the season started but he is really the one who gets the club going. They are missing his energy. Big time.
The Giants need to stop hanging their heads and moping around. Fake a HBP, bunt, hit whatever. All it takes are some well timed hits and things can turn quickly. Just get it done.
When Huff struck out in the 9th he was as pissed off as I’ve ever seen a ballplayer. He was pissed off at the second low strike the ump called, at the third strike he gave away swinging at a breaking ball away, at himself and the team for not hitting or playing with any fire, at the whole fucking state of the baseball universe at the particular moment. He often carries his anger back to the dugout after a bad AB, but he’s not one to punch steel doors or kick concrete steps with toe-snapping ferocity. He’s more of a slam the bat, bounce the helmet kind of a guy. He doesn’t let his anger control him and eventually he gets control of it. He’ll be ready today. I think the rest of the team, each in his own way, will be looking at today’s game with the same intensity. It’s not do or die, it’s just time to step up.
BF leading the charge!
Do the Giants miss Torres? Does a baby calf miss the teat? Losing 1-0 and 2-1 games lately underscores the question. Underscores, all right. No sparkplug. Get well quick Dude. There was something magical about that skinny lil guy this season. Chasing the league lead in doubles. Batch of triples. And a lead-off dinger once in awhile doesn’t hurt either. That says nothing about his zing on the basepaths and wizardry in the field with his gold glove class defense. Quite possible the team would be two or three games up on its present standing. Imagine the Rox without Tulowitzki. Two different guys but similar effects on their respective teams.
So i’m a broken record already, but if Bochy doesn’t bench Uribe today i’m gonna shit little green BBs. Recently his hitting is approaching the Rowandzone. His defense has been costly ~ and apparently somewhat infectious. Right now he’s a burnout. Needs pine for maybe two-three days. And Bochy batting him second last night may have cost the game. He came up in too many situations where a Sanchez or Fontenot may have come through.
Curiously enough, with the 6 game road trip looming, the team’s fate depends on our $135M man. He has pitched well lately. Though the dude has a good W-L record, Chris Narveson has a sky-high ERA courtesy of a hard-hitting team behind him. Today’s contest may well be do or die, with Wrigley and then the Box of Rox looming and a dozen games left to the season.
Let’s try this one for today.:
Ross-CF Sanchez-2B Huff-1B Posey-C Burrell-LF Guillen-RF Uribe-SS Sandoval-3B Zito-P.
Dennis subdued……sniff
What is it with Bochy trotting out Uribe again? Sure he was great early in the season, but if he connects with anything today it will most likely be nothing more than dumb luck. Dude is tired. Running on fumes.
mix it up: throw in Rohlnger, Ishi, Velez, Rent, and Nate while we’re at it
Huff could use a blow too. but bochy only goes with “track record” guys if he’s got them.it’s a little frustrating, I’d like to see Nate or velez or both in there today…
So what’s the deal with Renteria again? Uribe needs a blow desperately,Bochy didn’t want to play Panda today, but has no choice since Rent can’t seem to stay on the field.
Rent’s elbow is fucked up again….
He’s going pretty much with the same guys who blew Narveson up for 10 in 3 innings… there really is no way to argue against it.. coherently.
Narveson is maybe the last motherfucker he’d sit the RH power bats for. Velez and Nate for Burrell and Guillen? Genius.
Dago has all of two hits against Wainwright through 6.2, behind 4-0. Looking good for the Redbirds today. One way or another SD may again drop outta first today. Maybe the news will help the Giants get at Narveson early on.
For my money (and there aint much of it), there’s too much attention paid to who’s in the starting lineup. Does it matter which right-handed hacker plays, or does it really matter which one of them is going to do something different to help score a run if and when the hacking is ineffective again today? And if we stipulate that there’s nothing different to be done, then it REALLY doesn’t matter who plays, does it?
Kershaw walks the first two Rox. Is he mailing it too?
Unbelievable Fantastic ketch by Braun on Ross HR bid. When it goes bad it really goes bad.
Jose!
Catch that one Braun.
Velez and Nate for Burrell and Guillen? Genius..
Hell Yeah did we need that Huge spark are what? Grand Slam Special for Guillen!!!
Guillen! Those foghorns are echoing clear to the Northwoods of Minnesota. Hot Salami! Just what the doctor ordered. Dr. Jekyll is alive and well today by the Bay.
WOw …. a BIIIG break. I think everyone including Burrell thought he was struck out. And, as someone said, this is just the pitcher to take some hacks against. Thank you to everyone involved
well, Guillen does have a quick bat. nice to have both Ross and Guillen with Torres out. Now what was that Zito stat with 4 runs or more?
I sure did. Bet Macha did too. He might not last much longer than his kid pitcher.
Credit goes to the Ump as well, for blowing the strike 3 call on Burrell.Otherwise no score.
Shitty fucking dodgers already down 3-0 in first. Pathetic lay down by their entire team
So the ump gave them a break? It’s 4-0. Period. Unless you can get MLB to give us the Cuzzi game, fuck off Kat.
You know Twin,You can FUCK YOURSELF AS WELL.
Just enjoy it, Kat. You’d have a doomer twist on a WS Championship.
Your not gonna get any help from the Dodgers. The last team they would help is the Giants. The team we should be rooting for is StLouis. If they stay motivated thinking their still in the W/C,the series they play with the Rockies will help are chances the most.
St. Louis is finished. The Giants just need to take care of biz and it’s theirs. They should not expect any help.
As noted, Guillen had been swinging the bat better than anyone on the team. There was no way he’d sit against a lefty who had given up 19 HR in 149 IP. This is not one of my “boys”, I was ambivalent about the acquisition. He earned his check in the first inning..
Dago down. LaBumbos mailing it. A series sweep of the Bums next season would be an appropriate message for this shit. I mean friggen Kershaw today. Ridiculous.
Have a game Jose Guillen
6 RBI game!
Stay Hot Jose Guillen!!!
6-4. Dodger’s aren’t done yet.
Kudos to Zito for stepping up today.
Do like the way Bochy is saving on his starters. Pull em early keep em strong. Bud Black did not do that with Latos and look what happened the other night.
Dear Kruk and Kuip: We hear a lot about Barry Zito’s record with 4 runs or more (109-6, as of start of game today). How does that record compare with other pitchers who started 350 games or more?
http://www.csnbayarea.com/pages/giants
about 2/3 of the way down the page.
Looks as if Ross will not be around next season. He sure hasn’t fit. I’d like to see the team go after someone like Luke Scott or Colby Rasmus. Scott may be another water buffalo, but he’s a pretty productive hitter. Bats LH, so one would hope its pretty much dead pull. Rasmus doesn’t get along with either the manager or with Pujols, so we might see St. Louis as a motivated mover.
Just booted up the end of regular season prize: sweet unit and complete… we’ll see how it goes. If you boys can keep yourselves out of “B”, I might do one for the postseason..
Casilla was right with Bautista as a candidate for demotion until late July. He’s now given up 3 runs in his last 27 innings, covering 23 appearances.
“Velez and Nate for Burrell and Guillen? Genius..”
Pat the Bat!
We’ve turned into the Earl Weaver Orioles. HR or Bust!
Icing on the Cake!! Pat the Bat.
Twin– what are you doing if a previous winner wins this one, too? Casilla has definitely come up huge in the last 6 weeks or so however a lot of the time I have no idea how he’s making it through an inning unscathed. His recent success is probably due to luck more than anything else…….
XOOT—- I don’t see what you’re referring to “2/3 down the page”.
It’s hardly just luck: just 8 walks in those 27 innings. 17 in the prevous 19 innings.
Who the hell wanted Velez and Nate to start today? Even I’m not stoopid.
Flavor, I’m just needling him for it.
Contest contest: If there’s a tie after 162 and game #163 is needed to decide the division winner, does that game count towards the W total?
There’s your Ford.
Holy stampeding Water Buffaloes, Batman. Feast or famine. Today they’re chowing down.
Dennis, the answer is yes.
Glad to see Bochy throwing Ford a bone.Hope he get’s an AB as well.
Previous winners are eligible for this one…
nice “D” from Panda today.
Nice job by Ray. Looks like a keeper.
Rowand 1-36, anyone wonder why he is not in the starting lineup. and like I said yesterday or Friday, Feast or famine that is your Giants offense!!
And like I said, that’s who they are now. The Lamonica offense..
Dodgers have closed to 6-5 in the 7th.
Wow, now he was a great football player!! Nice call Mike
Woo-Hoo!
Yeah, Baby!
Ferrethead woo-hooed here at 4:01 and Nipper at 4:02 on the Splash. FERRET! Tell me it isn’t twue!
Twinnie, I wouldn’t be caught dead Woo-Hoo-ing on the Splash! You know me better than that!
The Splash loves you. You still burning meatloaf?
this after-game round table thing they do needs to go. It is always, 100% of the time, boring. JT Snow is interminable to listen to. And listening to Kruk trot out another “Zito would be REALLY great if the offense scored runs for him” stat is tired and played out. Stop talking about Zito and lack of run support. Zito sucks. They have won ONE game (today) as a team in Zito starts since August 11th. That’s ridiculous……..
I really enjoy the post game roundtable. When the Giants lose, the inane banter cheers me up, and when they win, it adds to my enjoyment of the win. YMMV.
Finding things to bitch about is one of the most moronic pastimes I can think of.
Kemp doubles to tie it in 9th. One out.
That whole “score him 4 runs” stat is laughable. What are you really saying? He can’t pitch from behind and dude’s psyche is softer than a cadbury egg.
SF got the win today though and it looked good to me.
About 30 games where he got 6 and didn’t win *or* lose. That’s a lot of blown games.
Hadn’t seen that one. That is some top shelf suckitude. Zito has pitched better than his results quite a few times. Its a BS excuse though. Score more runs and he’ll win more games? Gee thanks, Kuip. I’m sure every pitcher in the league says the same thing to themselves.
Going to extras, 6-6.
At least Dennis lives another day.
Let’s see this Dodger game go about 18-20 innings tonight………
Jesus, that’s 800 pounds of “relief” this inning..
twin, what site do you go to where you can see the pitching records and # of runs scored per game?
baseballreference, go to the pitcher’s game logs.
Sherrill got it done-strikes out Gonzales with bases loaded
Dodgers have to win this now in the 11th. Cannot let Tulowitski hit in the 12th.
obviously this game won’t go 18, Tracey has already burned through his entire bullpen.
All 9 of the Giant runs today were driven in by guys being paid by other teams(Guillen KC Burrell TB) That’s a cost effective lineup.
Dodgers Win!!!
excellent. looks like the Dodgers are actually useful now and again…….
