A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

No Excuses

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 19, 2010

Today, I don’t want to hear about Zito’s Law, or lack of run support, or how much money he makes, or the fact that he’s 112-0 when the team scores 16 runs for him or whatever.  Somehow the Giants just need to go out and figure out how to get a win despite who’s on the mound…..

Reading the comments and box score it looks lke I didn’t miss much last night. Sounds like Lincecum was a bit pissed to be lifted but I don’t see any news there. Dude is ultra competitive? A bit of a red ass? Wow, there’s a revelation.

I’m interested to see who Bochy runs out there today. Too many changes sends a message of panic to the club but the current group hasn’t been getting it done. I wasn’t high on Torres when the season started but he is really the one who gets the club going. They are missing his energy. Big time.

The Giants need to stop hanging their heads and moping around. Fake a HBP, bunt, hit whatever. All it takes are some well timed hits and things can turn quickly. Just get it done.

When Huff struck out in the 9th he was as pissed off as I’ve ever seen a ballplayer. He was pissed off at the second low strike the ump called, at the third strike he gave away swinging at a breaking ball away, at himself and the team for not hitting or playing with any fire, at the whole fucking state of the baseball universe at the particular moment. He often carries his anger back to the dugout after a bad AB, but he’s not one to punch steel doors or kick concrete steps with toe-snapping ferocity. He’s more of a slam the bat, bounce the helmet kind of a guy. He doesn’t let his anger control him and eventually he gets control of it. He’ll be ready today. I think the rest of the team, each in his own way, will be looking at today’s game with the same intensity. It’s not do or die, it’s just time to step up.

Do the Giants miss Torres? Does a baby calf miss the teat? Losing 1-0 and 2-1 games lately underscores the question. Underscores, all right. No sparkplug. Get well quick Dude. There was something magical about that skinny lil guy this season. Chasing the league lead in doubles. Batch of triples. And a lead-off dinger once in awhile doesn’t hurt either. That says nothing about his zing on the basepaths and wizardry in the field with his gold glove class defense. Quite possible the team would be two or three games up on its present standing. Imagine the Rox without Tulowitzki. Two different guys but similar effects on their respective teams.

So i’m a broken record already, but if Bochy doesn’t bench Uribe today i’m gonna shit little green BBs. Recently his hitting is approaching the Rowandzone. His defense has been costly ~ and apparently somewhat infectious. Right now he’s a burnout. Needs pine for maybe two-three days. And Bochy batting him second last night may have cost the game. He came up in too many situations where a Sanchez or Fontenot may have come through.

Curiously enough, with the 6 game road trip looming, the team’s fate depends on our $135M man. He has pitched well lately. Though the dude has a good W-L record, Chris Narveson has a sky-high ERA courtesy of a hard-hitting team behind him. Today’s contest may well be do or die, with Wrigley and then the Box of Rox looming and a dozen games left to the season.

What is it with Bochy trotting out Uribe again? Sure he was great early in the season, but if he connects with anything today it will most likely be nothing more than dumb luck. Dude is tired. Running on fumes.

Huff could use a blow too. but bochy only goes with “track record” guys if he’s got them.it’s a little frustrating, I’d like to see Nate or velez or both in there today…

  10. alleykat's avatar alleykat said, on September 19, 2010 at 11:29 am

Dago has all of two hits against Wainwright through 6.2, behind 4-0. Looking good for the Redbirds today. One way or another SD may again drop outta first today. Maybe the news will help the Giants get at Narveson early on.

For my money (and there aint much of it), there’s too much attention paid to who’s in the starting lineup. Does it matter which right-handed hacker plays, or does it really matter which one of them is going to do something different to help score a run if and when the hacking is ineffective again today? And if we stipulate that there’s nothing different to be done, then it REALLY doesn’t matter who plays, does it?

Looks as if Ross will not be around next season. He sure hasn’t fit. I’d like to see the team go after someone like Luke Scott or Colby Rasmus. Scott may be another water buffalo, but he’s a pretty productive hitter. Bats LH, so one would hope its pretty much dead pull. Rasmus doesn’t get along with either the manager or with Pujols, so we might see St. Louis as a motivated mover.

this after-game round table thing they do needs to go. It is always, 100% of the time, boring. JT Snow is interminable to listen to. And listening to Kruk trot out another “Zito would be REALLY great if the offense scored runs for him” stat is tired and played out. Stop talking about Zito and lack of run support. Zito sucks. They have won ONE game (today) as a team in Zito starts since August 11th. That’s ridiculous……..
