A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

3 Games That Will Determine the Outcome of the Season

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 24, 2010

Is it possible to get more geeked for this series? Timmy vs “The Poor Man’s Ubaldo” tonight. I love watching Chacin pitch, this is going to be a great match up. Zitman on Sat and for some unknown reason the Rockies hitters flail against him. Then Cain on Sunday.

The pitching staff continues to hurl at a record pace in September but there’s reason for concern right now. The rockies are losing but they aren’t having any trouble hitting the ball. I’m certain that our “HR or bust” mentality will continue in Colorado. We can’t panic if they put up runs just go out and match any crooked numbers they might put up.

I’ve got no feel on how this series plays out. The only thing that would be devastating would be getting swept but I just can’t see that with Timmy and Cain going. We are in control of everything, especially with 6 easy ones to end the season. At home. Magic number is 10……

Chacin stealing a page from Timmy’s book. He got through that inning on only a dozen pitches. Now at 98 through six. Interesting duel.

Son of a bitch! Rocks got that run because of something we don’t have, speed. Did Huff really need to play that far in? We fucking lose another 1-0 game, and it’s to the ledge.

Chacin at 120 pitches. BP in 8th and 9th. Timmy faces the big test this inning. No more dink hits please. Solid ones either, for that matter. He has a lead to protect, unlike his last outing.

Pawlie: Nope. White Sox in dead ball era had it going for 20. Giants now two up in modern era and aiming at that 20 with 18 currently. One thing for sure is that the September staff is probably the best in Giants history since the days of Christy Mathewson and Joe ‘Iron Man’ McGinty.

A grand total of 5 hits tonight in that “park” tonight. Pitching, pitching and more pitching.
Safe to say that Tim has found himself a nice groove. Sounds like all that in between starts work is really paying dividends. Keep doing what you’re doing. Hell, all this winning is even making Amy G. look and sound good. I must have Giants Fever. Catch it!

when were we last 20 games over .500? (and do not say the word that comes before 1994)

  49. stixwiz's avatar stixwiz said, on September 24, 2010 at 7:43 pm

Twenty more wins than losses now at 87-67. Passed the Braves in overall record tonight. This one puts the Rox in one very deep hole. There was simply too much Timmy and then Wilson for the capper. Nice symmetry in numbers for those two at Lincecum with 15 wins and Brian with 45 saves. It did not come easy but its in the books.

Yahoo MLB page features Timmy in action with a grin on his mug and the headlining caption “A GIANT STEP”. “Tim Lincecum of the Giants was perfect through five innings, and he received just enough run support to beat the Rockies.” (story of our season)

  50. Billy's avatar Billy said, on September 24, 2010 at 7:43 pm

Sweet!!! Tim was dealing. Even though he was behind, the Giants did a good job with Chacin. At least they worked the counts a lot. Something that was refreshing to say the least.

Pat the Bat. Can’t say enough. . . He’s been here half a season, and has some monster shots of huge meaning. . . .

  57. xootsuit's avatar xootsuit said, on September 24, 2010 at 7:50 pm

I hope 3bagger gets on camera this weekend with a “We know you rig the humidor” sign. Comcast SN might show it, especially if he and his family are wearing their Giants gear.

Apparently the pitchers know immediately, from the feel of the leather, when a ball is dry (and not humidified).

  58. TellItGoodbye's avatar TellItGoodbye said, on September 24, 2010 at 7:53 pm

I regret that I’m not catching many games this week, so I don’t have much to say except it’s pretty damned cool to see the Giants 20 games over .500. I’ll admit, I’m not smart enough to figure it out … a ton of holes on this roster, and it’s not like the pitching staff is 2.5 for the year … but then again, for September it is even better!

OK, so I have nothing to say to everyone doesn’t know already, but I never thought this team would be 20-over this year, even if it made the playoffs. So … from now on, my name now refers to the rest of the division. Add a Padre defeat tonight, and may this be the last we see of the NL West. Tell Em All Goodbye.

And thanks to you all on the board for allowing me to catch up on all the juicy details from real fans.

  61. stixwiz's avatar stixwiz said, on September 24, 2010 at 8:14 pm

Did a bit of stats tracking and just found out who happens to be currently the most unhittable pitcher in the game. Nope, it’s not Timmy, though he sure was that tonight. Lowest batting average against belongs to one Jonathan Sanchez with a .206 BA for opposing hitters. Second is Mat Latos of the Dagos with a .210. Sixth best is Matt the Horse with a nifty .220.

When your #4 starter is the hardest to hit in all of baseball it says something about the Rotation and the staff in general. Kudos to Bochy for sticking with his guns on the rotation and for keeping the BP fresh and active by resting his sterling starters in these closing weeks of the season.

It’s looking as if the most electrifying possibilities in the PS could be the Phillies Halladay, Oswalt and Hamels versus Timmy, Matt and (i would prefer) Sanchez. Yanks, Rays, Rangers and Twins have nobody to match that set. Getting ahead of myself here, but after tonight its looking more likely than not.
