A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Game 3 Gut Check Time

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 19, 2010

I’m quite bummed this morning. Not only have I been receiving daily texts or calls from friends celebrating the tickets they got for today’s game, but I have to endure the indignity of not even being able to watch the game. I’ll have it on the radio in my office but it won’t be the same and I have so many things to do today I might not even get to HEAR most of it. And I can’t dvr it because too many people would end up blowing it for me with texts like “OMG!” “PANDA!” “Fucking umpire!”….Oh well, you guys will just have to will this game home for me. That’s what I really think is going to happen. Matt Cain WILL *will* this game home for us today. 2-0, 3-1, something like that. Ok, just get him1 run. At least.

I’m loosely confident that our offense will get back on track at ATT. Actually, that’s not true, it’s fake confidence. This must be how Zito feels every time he throws a pitch……

So go get ’em Cainer. I couldn’t have more faith in you. And at the end of the day, faith in yourself and those who believe equally in you is all that matters. It’s just a game, don’t forget that guys. Sometimes there are more important things in life to consider….2 flaps up from Flapper Nation……

One of the advantages of working at home is a flat screen in my office . . .

I feel semi-confident as well. These guys HAVE to break out at some point in these playoffs.

Might as well be now. I think Bochy is going to stick with Torres after reading the paper this morning. Me, not him . . .

    Uribe/Rent? Criminy. Panda and Font?

Buddy of mine and his wife are going today too…StubHub tix, I’m sure he paid up the ying yang. Historical event, tho, lotta old timers.

I’m all for Texas. Wash is a good guy, highly respected as a coach with A’s., and Bad Vlad is just a cool hitter to watch. And yeah, Bud and the TV honchos that spin him around aren’t too keen on SF-Texas for all the marbles. Of course he’d spin it to “That’s the beauty of our great game, anyone can do this…and welcome to Arlington.”

  4. Unca Chuck's avatar Unca Chuck said, on October 19, 2010 at 8:17 am

I got on the waiting list, but was denied, and stubhub has standing room tix at $120.00. $600.00 to stand for the whole game?

As tempting as that sounds, no thanks. Both of my daughters may be going tomorrow night.

I’m sure Bud is telling the home plate ump, just squeeze the zone a litte for Hunter. Close calls all go to the Yanks . . .

Burnett is going to wish he didn’t get out of bed today. It’s going to be an 8-2 game for Texass.

Washington, and his “I only snorted once” story? Too funny. I guess you pick up bad habits in Oaktown . . .

Criminy, I missed the first few innings yesterday. Hamilton barely one-armed that swing on the HR in the 1st. Is it 240 down the line in that crap-ass stadium?

It’s sounding like if Juan’s healthy, he’ll play 3B and Rent will be at SS. So we’re gonna play a guy with a torn biceps tendon over a guy with a eating disorder? Phuck that.

    Play the fat guy!

    • xootsuit's avatar xootsuit said, on October 19, 2010 at 9:03 am

Fox expects to attract more viewers and higher ad revenue showing Glee in primetime rather than baseball. Apparently teenagers like Glee. My kid prefers baseball.

      • ferrethead's avatar ferrethead said, on October 19, 2010 at 9:21 am

I wish people would stop blaming “Glee” – Fox is showing a re-run tonight, so obviously that isn’t part of the equation. More likely, they weren’t allowed to compete with the TBS game in the nighttime….there is another series being played, even if it is in the lesser league. (Obviously, it is possible to be a fan of both, as I am. But, if I had to choose, I would go with the Giants, there are other ways to watch “Glee”, baseball is best enjoyed live!)

      • xootsuit's avatar xootsuit said, on October 19, 2010 at 11:27 am

The Ranger/Yankee game will be over about 8 pm, but that easily could’ve been moved up an hour. East coast audience availability is driving the decision, I guess. Glee still sucks.

    • Bozo's avatar Bozo said, on October 19, 2010 at 9:05 am

Fox probably has show on tonight that they don’t want to mess with. When I was a kid there was a lot of PS day games. Not enough these days as far as I’m concerned.

  10. Bozo's avatar Bozo said, on October 19, 2010 at 9:02 am

Cain, Bum and Timmy. Not a bad rotation for this homestand. Just need to win 3 more games, might as well do it at home.
    Go Giants, you buncha clowns.

  11. Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on October 19, 2010 at 9:04 am

Cristin– I hear you, totally stupid. This has EVERYTHING to do with the networks bowing down to the all mighty Yankees, making sure their game is in prime time with no competition…..

    • Bozo's avatar Bozo said, on October 19, 2010 at 9:07 am

Yeah Flav, except it’s not one network making the call (unless TBS and Fox flip a coin), or MLB reserves the right to call it (I doubt that though).

  13. Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on October 19, 2010 at 9:09 am

Kuip thinks Rowand is starting today instead of torres. I’m fine with that, Rowand can’t do worse than striking out 4 times, as Torres did on Sunday. But he also thinks Rowand might leadoff iinstead of Ross. That would be monumentally stupid. You want Ross to get more at bats, not less. And Rowand doesn’t need the added pressure of hitting first— he walks up to that at bat and he can already hear the boos in his head…….

    • Bozo's avatar Bozo said, on October 19, 2010 at 9:29 am

Another thing about Rowand over Torres tonight. You’ve got Andres speed coming off the bench, that could play out nicely in the late innings.

The real reason FOX is televising the game early today is they don’t want to compete with a very special episode of Dr. Phil at 8 tonight. He’ll be discussing genital warts

Messed up day for me too. It’s prime wood-cutting season and here its both cookin and heating with the natural stuff. Got a guy coming in at one or so, my time in Minnesota, to do an energy assessment. He may not be gone till two or two-thirty. Game starts at 3:19 for me. Gets dark around 6:30. No TV here, so its Yahoo or audio via the net.

Oh well, it will all be hunky-dory when Matt the Horse stifles the Beast from the East and puts the Giants up 2-1. Of course, that all depends on Bochy getting past the “Who’s on First”, or is it Third, conundrum. One way or another there will be a team on the field. Hope they score early and often to ease the way a bit for Cainer.

Bochy told Fox team that Uribe MRI was “fairly clean,” nothing structurally wrong. He is a “go” unless wrist acts up in BP.

So we’re starting a guy with completely torn biceps tendon and a guy with a “fairly clean” MRI?

Are you fucking kidding me? Might as well sprinkle in Alan Alda, Jamie Farr and Gary Burghoff and make it a real M*A*S*H Unit. Unfuckingbelievable.

  26. Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on October 19, 2010 at 10:19 am

I don’t have a prob with Rent batting leadoff— he’s a big game producer, if he’s healthy I’m down with him playing. I am a little concerned that Uribe is in. I think he’s hurt and not being honest with Bochy–if he strikes out 4 times I put this one on Bochy, not Uribe. I’d rather see Panda in there today……

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on October 19, 2010 at 10:30 am

Flav, there still playing him despite having just a “fairly clean” MRI. That’s not Uribe being dishonest with Bochy, that’s Bochy going against the goddamn radiologist. “Fairly clean” MRI is like being “kind of” pregnant.
