A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Taking on the 126 Million Dollar Man and Little Else

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on April 29, 2011

When the Nationals were busy handing over that absurd contract to Jayson Werth (they will end up regretting that deal ALMOST as much as the Red Sox will end up regretting the Crawford deal) it would have been nice to see them consider filling the other holes on their roster. Much like in Pittsburgh, when old Giants’ castoffs are your aces (Correia in Pitt, and Livan in Washington) you have some big problems.

I’m just not that impressed with the current National’s team that we are facing tonight. Timmy should shut them down and I think Dirrrrrrty will have his 2011 break out game on Saturday. Sunday we get to tee off on Zimmerman who just isn’t fully back yet from his TJ surgery (he could be decent starting next year though)…..

The Flap Fantasy Baseball Standings (GiantHead explodes with a double digit gain, Pawlie is teetering towards the brink of a double digit score and Berra’s Bombers can put the gas mask away for at least one more day as he manages to stop the bleeding with a “0” pt move in the standings)…….

I said I was back!!!! 12th place Saturday, all the way to 5th with a monster day from Ben Zobrist! And did you like that Vogelsong pickup????

Seeing the Gigantes the next three days! World Champion babies! Does not look like they are going to the White House though…Obama down at the Shuttle Launch, was hoping they would visit the WH on Monday, but I cant confirm.

Lincecum-Sanchez-Cain will make my 11 year old happy! Sweep baby! Tht was a terrible contract for Werth, but the Nats franchise had to make a splash for someone to retain a semblance of interest locally knowing they were not going to re-sign Dunn. Without Ryan Zimmerman, it is a fairly anemic offense and the future of the Nats rests on the return of Strasburg. If he does not come back 100%, this organization will be put back 10 years…

Easy Giant Head . . . This is what you said on April 19th on the Flap League Message Board:

Peter (Giant Head) posted to the message board: “My team is in a free fall…”

Giants rotation should look like this: Lincecum Sanchez Cain this weekend followed by Bum on Monday. So that would leave Vogs Lincecum Sanchez for NY next week for those interested in attending.
Those of us on the left coast used to get updates from someone with live flying squirrel reports too as I remember. How do you come up with a nickname like that? Are these guys run by Mr. Peabody?

Giants in DC, birthplace and home of the incomparable Duke ellington, who would be 112 today. Jazz musicians and vocalists still work their way through his classic and timeless songs, indigenous american musical treasures, some composed 70 years ago.

Hopefully not. Even though he wasn’t hitting much, I found myself not wanting to miss his ab’s. Can’t say that about anyone else except Pablo.

Wondering if AAA pitchers, on average, get less movement on their F.B.’s than those in The Show. Here, Belt was fouling off an incredible number of pitches, almost always in the zone and generally early in the count. Seems like he was a silly millimeter or two from making good contact on most of those balls.

Facing PCL pitching will restore Brandon’s confidence. If he can make that tiny adjustment he should get plenty of hits. BTW: Does it appear that he has made some progress on that high inside heater?

Belt Hr came off a lefty. Kroon 13 pitches, 11 strikes. Edlefsen also continues to impress. G’s bullpen depth is something else. Maybe they work a deal down the line involving one of their relievers.

Sounds like Vogelsong will get starts o’ plenty this month (filed yesterday):

“Zito, who hurt himself on April 16, has shucked his crutches and can walk without wearing his protective boot, though he planned on wearing it during the Giants’ flight to Washington. Zito, who was examined Wednesday by foot and ankle specialist Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte, N.C., cannot yet put full weight on his injured foot.

Bochy said that once Zito can function without the walking boot, he’ll participate in baseball-related activities for one to three weeks before trying to throw off a mound.”

There are many ironic layers to Dennis’ doomerism. He is a strong practitioner of the anti-jinx, so it can be difficult to read his intentions.
For years, I never knew why actors told each other to “break a leg” before the show, then I learned it was an anti-jinx thing.

Well ain’t that the shits. Shut out twice in four days by so-so starters pitching for Pittsburgh and Washington. They say a lot of things tend to run in threes, so maybe we should expect one from some flop-armed flipper on the Mets. Only good thing i can think of here is that i didn’t have to stay up half the night to catch the game.

It’s been ages since I posted–I let being laid off get in the way of 1FD!–but wanted to write in with a hello from Washington. It’s good to see everyone is still on the blog and I hope all are well. First off, there was a Candlestick-worthy wind blowing tonight, the remnants from all the crazy tornadic weather of the last two days. Here are a few things that stick out to me from my perspective in LF bleachers behind Pat the Bat: he made a great catch of that foul popup–no room to run and going hard. You guys can better judge Timmy’s location and that of Marquis–my sense was the latter was really on tonight. Nix clobbered that ball off the right field foulpole. Finally, Huff’s horrific strikeout in the 9th. Looked like the pitch bounced 8 feet before the plate. He looks completely frustrated and lost.

I thought they looked really flat. I wonder how much Bochy’s complaint on the play at 2nd wasn’t as much to instigate the team (which brought back memories of 75 year old Frank Robinson arguing calls for the Nats five years ago; Frank had a bit of mean in him and he could really get a crowd behind him). I defer to those of you who have seen more ball in person or on TV, but my feeling is they’re kind of waiting for the 2010 magic to kick in. Any of us who’ve had some success at sports know how you fall into that. They’re going to have to find motivation or it just isn’t going to happen–this isn’t the overwhelmingly dominant 1998 Yankees or Bed Red Machine.

I took a few pics–Flav is their somewhere I can post them? I’ll be at the game tomorrow and Monday, and may try to squeeze in a few innings Sunday–mainly because I’ll be with some folks who know Manny Burriss’ parents. I’m certain Boche will get him in this weekend.
