Voggy Going for the Sweep
I didn’t see the game, I was busy playing softball getting the be-jesus kicked out of us. I read at Baggs blog that Hall is exited to have found a mechanical issue in his swing that he thinks will yield new results. Hey, I guess it’s possible. The dude has really only had one good year and I just assumed that was a *steroid* year. But if BamBam has found a flaw and he corrects it, then we could be looking at “Burrell 2011”. I am in a wait and see mode on this, though…….
The Snakes are who I thought they were: decent team, nothing to be afraid of, though. They are in pretty big doo-doo if Putz’ back stays balky. He’s been lights out this year but not last night. When Eli Whiteside is driving the ball you might not be pitching at your physical peak….
Read that Baggs thinks Cervelli would cost a “Wheeler or more”. That is absurd and I refuse to believe it. Maybe Runzler but I bet you could get away with 2 B-grade lefties from the farm system–Hinshaw and ? It just CANNOT be this hard to find a serviceable catcher and if it is then it was idiotic to not find a competent back up back stop last Winter……..
Double and a single for Hall last night were nice signs . . .
Didn’t stay up for the game last night, so had to watch it this morning. Another, a little bit of this guy, a little bit of that guy. This Team just keeps fighting. It seems like they just keep gelling, no matter who is out there.
Ya gotta love it.
I love waking up to reports of victory. This is all just layin’ the groundwork for Hall to emerge as a hero. Together we’re Magical.
The Giants Mambo #5.
A little bit of Posey in my life, A little bit of Sanchez by my side.
A little bit of Matty’s all I need, A little bit of Timmy’s all I see.
A little bit of Cody in the sun, A little bit of Weezy all night long.
A little bit of Crawfish here I am, A little bit of Huff is a Giants win!!!!!!!!
Giants number 1!!!
Jump up and down and move it all around.
Shake your head to the sound, put your hands on the ground.
Take one step left and one step right.
One to the front and one to the side.
Clap your hands once and clap your hands twice
And if it look like this then you’re doing it right.
Funny. Culturally dated. But funny.
week or so ago, the Fangraphs guy dissed cervelli pretty hard, saying he was incapable of throwing guys out; I can’t imagine giving up a top starter prospect for a guy who will be a career back up. Listening to Miller and flems, they were dumbfounded eli let another one get by him on a third strike where the batter wound up reaching first. I’m sure everyone was dumbfounded he hit one off the freaking wall in dead CF off putz for a triple.
Again, tho, SF pen shuts things down after solid outing from bum, while AZ fucks it up and lets in two insurance runs.
And again with risp situation, drew looks at a called third strike over the outside, this time from Bum. I don’t get it…you are up there with a chance to drive in runs, tie the game. This guy is supposed to be an allstar?
Props to bochy for getting everyone ABs in a hitters park…Hall, gamer burrell get whacks and tejada throws out johnson at the plate. could the team (emphasize that word) with 39 wins, second only to philly in the entire league, get zero position players on the all star team?
All they can do at this point is play Stewart more. Whitehead’s defense is atrocious. It’s not like that pitch was remotely hard to catch. What I was eminnently happy to see was Bummie pitching through the adversity. He seemed to lose focus eaerlier in the year when something went awry behind him.
One thing this series is proving: The Giants are for real. Bruised, battered and bespattered, they are still pulling them out while on the road. Winning teams generally dominate at home and play .500 ball on the road. Giants are taking a bit better than half their contests in those games away. Of course the pitching. Certainly the defense as well. Excellent managing is critical. But there’s this ‘je ne sais quoi’ quality as well, a can-do, know how to win factor which has them picking each other up all over the place. The Red Sox, Yankees and Phils may look indomitable on paper. The Giants know how to get it done.
as always, well said NorthWoodsHermitStickMan.
I did it. Black and orange glasses. ZenniOptical. China. $67.95. So gay. Will have to put photo of me w/ them as my avatar. (This is real life and I don’t even live in SF, Pawlie. Already someone thought the orange was for SU Orange. Nope. For SF Giants and because I want to comport myself as some hip and sassy, Twitter-trending creative geek. Approaching Social Security. Sigh.)
I love the photo of the Player of the Game and love Chuckles’s mambo.
Shit, I just turned 50, and keep getting the goddamn letters to join AARP. These piss me off so much I’m going to, uh, hmmmm, what was I talking about?
when my wife turned 50 (a few months before me), I signed her up for AARP. She was not amused.
but i was!
I missed these posts earlier. Funny
The Cincy games were telling as well, Stix.
The Giants were battered, wounded, and running on fumes after 20 straight games and a raft of injuries. And they still managed to split with a powerful, healthy, and rolling Reds team. After playing the Giants, they promptly went to LA and swept them.
No Talent, beware. I’m a half game back of you in FL. Enough here. Must work or pretend to.
I seem to have an uncanny hold on 6th place. I was in 6th with 94 points. I was in 6th with 84 points.
Got a new catcher! That’s the ticket!
Happy Bloomsday, Flappers.
Oh shit. The last time someone said that to me, I had to take a test on ULYSESS
Catchers seem to be a hot commodity this season, so deals for them are going to be costlier than they normally would be.
If Crawford can gain a little more consistency, then having a void (offensivley) at catcher wouldn’t hurt as much. I mean, getting Pudge would be no help after this year anyway, so short term is stand pat. Tommy Joseph is still a couple years away. Zambranoin AA? Ehhh. 175 lb catchers are few and far between . . .
The vets won it for Bumgarner. If you want to have a group POTG , these guys would be it: Huff, Hall, Tejada, Gamer, The Bat…
AZ definitely upgraded their pen, and got rid of a couple hundred K’s, but they’re still a 4th place team…
If it’s true about Hall and Meulens, Hensley is about to make a few million bucks..
Texas wanted Casilla for Torrelba? That’s a close call. A couple years ago for Colorado, the Sherpa seemed to get every key RBI down the stretch…
OK, my Doomer side exposed: I keep expecting the other shoe to drop with Vogelsong. Even watching him pitch, nothing really stands out to explain the dominance. It’s a spell, hope it lasts. He’s our only hope to keep Zitboy out of the rotation..
Speaking of spells and such, I had posted on the Splash what Baggs also says and I’m sure many have been thinking… about Cousins and the Fish: Karma’s a bitch..
Yeah, the baseball Gods are vengeful, if nothing else. Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch . . .
Bochy on Burrell’s triple last night:
“I did remind him that Ford would have scored on that”
On one leg, no less.
Sign that Bochy is living and eating right:
He moves Rowand to LF and DOESN’T sub Crawford for Miggy. The two save the game.
I figured last night’s win a given, with Saunders. Not liking the odds on tonight’s game: Kennedy is tough and we don’t hit him. Our bats have lots of sub-.200 averages against him — save for Huff, .375 16AB 0HR 1RBI. We’re gonna need a shitload of good luck tonight.
All we need are runs. 4 to be exact.
How the hell does Josh Hamilton suck so bad in day games. All games are day games when you’re growing up and he must have acceled. I don’t remember any night games in LL and high school.
(with apologies to George Harrison)
If you’re smoking Timmy’s bong
You may think the changeups’ going wrong
But they’re not;
He just threw it like that.
It doesn’t really matter what pitch you throw
What loogy you blow or what batter you know
As you’re only a Vogelsong
Reports G’s are scouting the Rangers Taylor Teagarden.
http://tinyurl.com/3wl2tcr
Would give them the first ever battery of guys named Taylor and Madison.
sounds either presidential, pornish, or trendy
Why not all three?
good point
Andy Borowitz just tweeted:
Weiner Resigns; Says He Will Spend More Time Sending Pictures of his Penis to his Family
How admirable. I just checked the FedEx tracking system and it looks like my Anthony Weiner Action Figure should arrive today. It’s a surprise gift for my sister’s birthday
Thought this would change my avatar. Seemed not to. Maybe for the better.
Well, the Congressional Gym recently installed a new image filter, ya know.
Also, Phillies are said to be in the market for a RH outfielder and making inquiries on “pricey veterans”. Hmmm…
Would Sabean want to do that deal and worry Rowand comes back to haunt them in the postseason?
That’s a risk I’m willing to take . . .
Not sure if it was baggs or hammerin hank but one of them mentioned that bam bam is trying to get rowand to keep his head still. I believe i’ve mentioned that once or twice. his swing is way too busy: hands moving, body moving, head moving to hit a ball that’s moving. I’m sick of hearing about how hard he works. practicing the wrong thing is a complete waste of time.
Well, in the interview after the game he mentioned how he’s feeling better at the plate lately because he’s doing a better job of getting in a hitting position early. Just makes you shake your head in wonder, though. He starts with a batting stance that is completely OUT of a hitting position, then he has to fight his way INTO a hitting position.
He had a great game last night, though. He’s making a contribution.
Bam Bam should give a call to Steven Spielberg on that issue. Back in 1996, Spielberg visited the set of ER and told George Clooney “If you stopped bobbling your head all the time, you’d be a big movie star”
Mike Nichols made serious actresses out of Liz Taylor and Ann Margaret, among others, just by keeping them from waving their arms whenever they talked..Side benefit:

They were a lotta fun tied up..
hahaha
And ironically, Nichols made Nathan Lane a bigger star by *having* him wave his arms around more
Like me and my giolf swing . . .
No one worries about who might “haunt them in the postseason”. Get there first, then maybe worry..
Baggs says it wasn’t Teagarden but Torrealba who was dicussed..
In spot duty, Rowand might be more valuable here than moving him…
Bill Hall now leads Burriss in extra base hits and is tied in walks..
Teagarden was mentioned on the dubious mlbtraderumors with G’s rumored to now be scouting AAA rosters.
Twin, I agree with your thoughts on the Song. I don’t know how he’s doing it but we got to keep riding that horse for as long as we can. Come on Ryan keep Zito down on the farm, hopefully his old battery mate, Vern and Vera’s pride and joy, will be joining him soon.
No Andres?
CF Rowand
2B Burriss
3B Sandoval
1B Huff
LF Ross
RF Schierholtz
SS Crawford
C Whiteside
P Vogelsong
Strange AT isn’t going against the rightie. Is he hurt?
Riding the lukewarm hand of Rowand?
I like when you public service lineup posters take the trouble to type it vertically. Makes me feel like I’m in the dugout…
I have to give credit to Baggardly.
No word on if he’s hurt. But he’s hitting just .217 over the last 30 days.
Schulman asked Boch’ about it. Apparently: “Torres is fine. Bochy liked Rowand’s at-bats yesterday.”
Utterly pathetic post at the Splash today, by Al what’s-his-name, subbing for Henry. Al cut-and-pasted an interview of Pete Rose in the L.A. Times being asked about……wait for it…….the Posey/Cousins collision! The topic is truly ancient history now, and Al wants to dredge up some stuff at the Splash. Johnny Bench has weighed in now on the topic, and Pete Rose. Let’s get all the Big Red Machine in there. What are Cesar Geronimo’s thoughts on this topic?
I was hoping for LeBron and Wade.
Al what’s his name is the sports editor, no less.
“But he’s hitting just .217 over the last 30 days.”
Well, the most important stat for a lead off hitter ( as opposed to a clean up hitter) is OBP. Andres is .218 BA, .346 OBP last 28 days
Aaron is .250 BA but just .302 OBP. And just .189 BA against RHers
But I’ll withhold judgement for now, because I don’t believe the explanation. Otherwise, Hall would be in also.( Hall has played like 2 ganmes and he’s tied with Manny in walks and leads in Xtra base fits.
Did I just say “extra base fits”..
I saw an extra base fit during one of my nephew’s little league games
My sister threw an extra-base fit once … once!
Next one is Manny’s first of the year, either way.
I once went 6 for 6 and made 6 errors in a single little league game…
Little Bobby Brenly . . .
666, Loo?
DAMIAN!! IT’S ALL FOR YOU!!
Giants current product reminds me of warriors 75 champ team, which included the likes of Charles “hopper” Dudley and George Johnson in a legit 10 man rotation. but what I really wanted to post was that Rick Barry made an entire career of extra base fits.
Chris Matthews with one of the quotes-of-the day today:
“We have the Weiner-thing behind us.”
Funny. That’s like that line from that Mickey Rourke movie BARFLY. He plays a drunken, reclusive poet/writer and some rich lady hires a private detective to track him down and he says ” So you hired a dick to find an asshole?”
Why Frank Stallone didn’t get the Oscar for Best Supporting actor in “Barfly” is still a mystery to me.
Nobody plays a kick-ass bullying bartender better than Frankie Stallone.
Great movie. It’s about Charles Bukowski. Faye Dunaway was outstanding as well . . .
Just another case of misdirected animosity . . .
Ross has the Zito socks on because he wants some of that good Zito mojo.
Braves just beat the Mets on a walk-off balk.
Teams have been doing the good cop/bad cop routine for years. Banning IPads, video games, etc is stupid.Gibson will get credit for it now, when he’s canned, the police state clubhouse will be one of the reasons given..
Braves won a wild one. Brooks Conrad (remember him? ) hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth, blowing Rodriguez’s save; and then the Braves won on a two-out balk in the bottom of the tenth.
Ah, I see Mac beat me to it.
Two ain’t nothing Ryan, we can get you three. Hang tough 32, we’ll get em back.
newsflash: Jesus returns. Guzman, that is. From the minors. To the ewPads.
Come on, Vogue
Let your body go with the flow, you know, you can do it
I’m a clown fan, way to take the extra 90 Cody.
The socks have magic.
Sooooeeeet! So if they can’t score any other way might as well steal a run. They probably anticipated NoWhitey striking out, so off they went. Montero promptly lost it. I do love a good running game. Looking forward to Ford’s return.
Upton makes the all-league “pear-shaped body” team.
My son had already said this guy is too quiet . . .
Hey Michael…a friend from the splash wants you to have their season seats for the Twins game on the 23rd…sez no strings…just thinks that since you’re TF you would like to use the tix since they are unavailable to them on that date…these people are serious in their offer
Twin:
And the Twins are ascendant.
Sandt, I appreciate the offer.I don’t want to go into detail, everyome has heard enough about my health. I am unable to attend a ballgame, however. Again, thank you..
I will pass that on to them…they are, however, unaware of your situ and were merely offering you a day at the park…
Be well, Michael…
Burriss had the fucking audacity to take that pitch after walking halfway down the line on the previous pitch and still think it was ball four?
Move over Bozo, there’s a new clown in town. “Wanna get away?”
That was weak. 3 different times that AB, burriss takes a walk outside the box, adjusts the gloves, yadda yadda. Twice he thinks he has ball four, and is on his way to first, only to have the ump call it a strike. I hate guys that waste time in a game like that, then he pisses the ump off , twice.
Were those pitches to Manny strikes? Grace made a big deal out of saying they both were, but they didn’t show a centerfield camera replay on either one.
It’s hard to tell with this CF camera angle. I just can’t believe after what happened on the previous pitch that he could actually take anything close and think he’d get the call. That ball could have been 1/2 inch off the ground, called strike 3 and Bochy would of had the right mind not to say a fucking word — to the ump. I’d hope to hell he’s still scream at Burriss’ stoopid ass.
maybe not dawg, but why give him the chance, esp on the second one? Anything middle away, burriss should slap to LF, even a ground ball to deep ss he probably beats out. But all the adjusting the gloves stuff and leaving the box is BS.
Heckuva try…
non productive out from Nate hurt there….too much air, wrong side of the field.
“Move over Bozo, there’s a new clown in town.” Yup, Vern and Vera sure are proud. “Wanna get away?” Whitehead sure does, he’s looking at the Fresno Guide book as we speak.
busy preparing for a big work day tomorrow and I haven’t seen an inning of this game. Just checked Yahoo, and Voggy looks like he had a good line but a lot of pitches. Dare I say *gutty*? I dunno, you guys watching it would have to say yay or nay. See you tomorrow after 7pm………
prep pays off; have a magnanimous workday tomorrow, MagnusFlavoris.
What is there, a special on McNuggets or something?
McHahahahahahahaha
How the fuck are any of these guys taking anything close after what happened to Burriss? Both Rowand and Hall doing their best impersonations of a statue. Unbelievable.
Sandy, I’ll respond on the previous page
vogel
Zip it up Affeldt, you’re done pissing on those guys.
Let’s get some runs Giants.
Rally time…C’mon Huff Daddy.
That’ll work. Send in the Clown.
wow this is setting up nice….shut down inning from affeldt, now into AZ pen again. Great AB from Sando!
Affeldt has come back in a big way from earlier slippage. He has become a rather reliable two-inning man. I wouldn’t call him a long-man, because Giants starters usually go 6 or better. When a bullpen features both depth and excellence it becomes a thing of wonder. Wonder where the Giants would be without that depth and excellence this season.
Ross. All he had to do was make contact. Fuck
Fucking Uncle Jessie is going to be our savior?
Oh shit
PAT
That’s a professional AB right there.
whew!
OK, shut em down here and win it in the 10th.
Pat the Bat showing signs of life lately. Must be the desert air. Panda ignited the rally and the Little Birdie that Could is off the hook. It becomes a battle of the bullpens. This team has such excellent pitching that the rest of the squad has developed a never say die attitude.
casilla is a beast, blazing fastball and killer curve to go with it. allows bochy to save the loogy.
