A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Voggy Going for the Sweep

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 16, 2011

I didn’t see the game, I was busy playing softball getting the be-jesus kicked out of us. I read at Baggs blog that Hall is exited to have found a mechanical issue in his swing that he thinks will yield new results. Hey, I guess it’s possible. The dude has really only had one good year and I just assumed that was a *steroid* year. But if BamBam has found a flaw and he corrects it, then we could be looking at “Burrell 2011”. I am in a wait and see mode on this, though…….

The Snakes are who I thought they were: decent team, nothing to be afraid of, though. They are in pretty big doo-doo if Putz’ back stays balky. He’s been lights out this year but not last night. When Eli Whiteside is driving the ball you might not be pitching at your physical peak….

Read that Baggs thinks Cervelli would cost a “Wheeler or more”. That is absurd and I refuse to believe it. Maybe Runzler but I bet you could get away with 2 B-grade lefties from the farm system–Hinshaw and ? It just CANNOT be this hard to find a serviceable catcher and if it is then it was idiotic to not find a competent back up back stop last Winter……..

Didn’t stay up for the game last night, so had to watch it this morning. Another, a little bit of this guy, a little bit of that guy. This Team just keeps fighting. It seems like they just keep gelling, no matter who is out there.
    Ya gotta love it.

    The Giants Mambo #5.

A little bit of Posey in my life, A little bit of Sanchez by my side.

A little bit of Matty’s all I need, A little bit of Timmy’s all I see.

A little bit of Cody in the sun, A little bit of Weezy all night long.

A little bit of Crawfish here I am, A little bit of Huff is a Giants win!!!!!!!!

    Giants number 1!!!

Jump up and down and move it all around.

Shake your head to the sound, put your hands on the ground.

Take one step left and one step right.

One to the front and one to the side.

Clap your hands once and clap your hands twice

And if it look like this then you’re doing it right.

week or so ago, the Fangraphs guy dissed cervelli pretty hard, saying he was incapable of throwing guys out; I can’t imagine giving up a top starter prospect for a guy who will be a career back up. Listening to Miller and flems, they were dumbfounded eli let another one get by him on a third strike where the batter wound up reaching first. I’m sure everyone was dumbfounded he hit one off the freaking wall in dead CF off putz for a triple.
Again, tho, SF pen shuts things down after solid outing from bum, while AZ fucks it up and lets in two insurance runs.
And again with risp situation, drew looks at a called third strike over the outside, this time from Bum. I don’t get it…you are up there with a chance to drive in runs, tie the game. This guy is supposed to be an allstar?
Props to bochy for getting everyone ABs in a hitters park…Hall, gamer burrell get whacks and tejada throws out johnson at the plate. could the team (emphasize that word) with 39 wins, second only to philly in the entire league, get zero position players on the all star team?

All they can do at this point is play Stewart more. Whitehead’s defense is atrocious. It’s not like that pitch was remotely hard to catch. What I was eminnently happy to see was Bummie pitching through the adversity. He seemed to lose focus eaerlier in the year when something went awry behind him.

One thing this series is proving: The Giants are for real. Bruised, battered and bespattered, they are still pulling them out while on the road. Winning teams generally dominate at home and play .500 ball on the road. Giants are taking a bit better than half their contests in those games away. Of course the pitching. Certainly the defense as well. Excellent managing is critical. But there’s this ‘je ne sais quoi’ quality as well, a can-do, know how to win factor which has them picking each other up all over the place. The Red Sox, Yankees and Phils may look indomitable on paper. The Giants know how to get it done.

The Cincy games were telling as well, Stix.

The Giants were battered, wounded, and running on fumes after 20 straight games and a raft of injuries. And they still managed to split with a powerful, healthy, and rolling Reds team. After playing the Giants, they promptly went to LA and swept them.

Catchers seem to be a hot commodity this season, so deals for them are going to be costlier than they normally would be.

If Crawford can gain a little more consistency, then having a void (offensivley) at catcher wouldn’t hurt as much. I mean, getting Pudge would be no help after this year anyway, so short term is stand pat. Tommy Joseph is still a couple years away. Zambranoin AA? Ehhh. 175 lb catchers are few and far between . . .

The vets won it for Bumgarner. If you want to have a group POTG , these guys would be it: Huff, Hall, Tejada, Gamer, The Bat…
AZ definitely upgraded their pen, and got rid of a couple hundred K’s, but they’re still a 4th place team…
If it’s true about Hall and Meulens, Hensley is about to make a few million bucks..
Texas wanted Casilla for Torrelba? That’s a close call. A couple years ago for Colorado, the Sherpa seemed to get every key RBI down the stretch…
OK, my Doomer side exposed: I keep expecting the other shoe to drop with Vogelsong. Even watching him pitch, nothing really stands out to explain the dominance. It’s a spell, hope it lasts. He’s our only hope to keep Zitboy out of the rotation..
Speaking of spells and such, I had posted on the Splash what Baggs also says and I’m sure many have been thinking… about Cousins and the Fish: Karma’s a bitch..

I figured last night’s win a given, with Saunders. Not liking the odds on tonight’s game: Kennedy is tough and we don’t hit him. Our bats have lots of sub-.200 averages against him — save for Huff, .375 16AB 0HR 1RBI. We’re gonna need a shitload of good luck tonight.

Not sure if it was baggs or hammerin hank but one of them mentioned that bam bam is trying to get rowand to keep his head still. I believe i’ve mentioned that once or twice. his swing is way too busy: hands moving, body moving, head moving to hit a ball that’s moving. I’m sick of hearing about how hard he works. practicing the wrong thing is a complete waste of time.

    • zumarust's avatar zumarust said, on June 16, 2011 at 12:20 pm

Well, in the interview after the game he mentioned how he’s feeling better at the plate lately because he’s doing a better job of getting in a hitting position early. Just makes you shake your head in wonder, though. He starts with a batting stance that is completely OUT of a hitting position, then he has to fight his way INTO a hitting position.
He had a great game last night, though. He’s making a contribution.

Well, the most important stat for a lead off hitter ( as opposed to a clean up hitter) is OBP. Andres is .218 BA, .346 OBP last 28 days
Aaron is .250 BA but just .302 OBP. And just .189 BA against RHers
But I’ll withhold judgement for now, because I don’t believe the explanation. Otherwise, Hall would be in also.( Hall has played like 2 ganmes and he’s tied with Manny in walks and leads in Xtra base fits.

  52. willieD's avatar willieD said, on June 16, 2011 at 8:23 pm

That was weak. 3 different times that AB, burriss takes a walk outside the box, adjusts the gloves, yadda yadda. Twice he thinks he has ball four, and is on his way to first, only to have the ump call it a strike. I hate guys that waste time in a game like that, then he pisses the ump off , twice.

It’s hard to tell with this CF camera angle. I just can’t believe after what happened on the previous pitch that he could actually take anything close and think he’d get the call. That ball could have been 1/2 inch off the ground, called strike 3 and Bochy would of had the right mind not to say a fucking word — to the ump. I’d hope to hell he’s still scream at Burriss’ stoopid ass.

maybe not dawg, but why give him the chance, esp on the second one? Anything middle away, burriss should slap to LF, even a ground ball to deep ss he probably beats out. But all the adjusting the gloves stuff and leaving the box is BS.

“Move over Bozo, there’s a new clown in town.” Yup, Vern and Vera sure are proud. “Wanna get away?” Whitehead sure does, he’s looking at the Fresno Guide book as we speak.

busy preparing for a big work day tomorrow and I haven’t seen an inning of this game. Just checked Yahoo, and Voggy looks like he had a good line but a lot of pitches. Dare I say *gutty*? I dunno, you guys watching it would have to say yay or nay. See you tomorrow after 7pm………

How the fuck are any of these guys taking anything close after what happened to Burriss? Both Rowand and Hall doing their best impersonations of a statue. Unbelievable.

Affeldt has come back in a big way from earlier slippage. He has become a rather reliable two-inning man. I wouldn’t call him a long-man, because Giants starters usually go 6 or better. When a bullpen features both depth and excellence it becomes a thing of wonder. Wonder where the Giants would be without that depth and excellence this season.

Pat the Bat showing signs of life lately. Must be the desert air. Panda ignited the rally and the Little Birdie that Could is off the hook. It becomes a battle of the bullpens. This team has such excellent pitching that the rest of the squad has developed a never say die attitude.
