A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

New Contest!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 1, 2011

Hi–So it’s not going to be a contest for one of Twin’s kickass units. But one of our bloggers (Mailorderbride) wants to give her tickets away for the July 6th game v the Padres. The 2 seats are right behind homeplate in the view box section of the park. Even if you can’t go, enter the contest, you can give the tickets away if you win and can’t go.

Here’s the contest: How many runs will the Giants score in their 3 game series v the Tigers? First tie breaker is how many runs the Tigers will score. Second tie breaker is how many combined stolen bases the 2 teams have. So, submit 3 numbers to me at bigflavor77@gmail.com

I realize the game is starting in 3 hours so we might not have too many contestants but let’s see what we can get and have some fun. Thank you, in advance, Mailorderbride for this generous offer……

Pitching match ups:

Bum v Penny

Zito v Sherzer

Voggy v Porcello

they’re both pretty slow, Giants are 21st in league in SB’s, Tigers near the bottom at 27th…..

How bad has Torres been struggling? Rowand is starting vs the right-hander, Penny.

Rowand CF, Burriss 2B, Sandoval 3B, Huff 1B, Ross LF, Burrell DH, Schierholtz RF, Crawford SS, Stewart C, (Bumgarner P)

  2. Kevin said, on July 1, 2011 at 1:33 pm

Dennis I don’t remember where I read or heard it but Bochy said he was going to rest Torres for at least 2 games. Felt Torres was just completely lost at the plate.

    • Del Mar Dennis said, on July 1, 2011 at 1:49 pm

Kev, I believe it was Torres himself that admitted to being lost. I woulda went with Ross in CF and Hall as the DH. Bill has good numbers vs Penny, but so does Rowand in limited action. The Gamer gets the call for time served with the Giants. I bet a few of you guys know about the term “time served.” “Good behavior” is another thing…

    • TedSpe said, on July 1, 2011 at 2:35 pm

      Bochy said it, Torres agreed

    • TedSpe said, on July 1, 2011 at 2:46 pm

Oh and Dennis. You forgot “ankle monitor”…

  3. unca_chuck said, on July 1, 2011 at 1:46 pm

Same with Huff, Ross, Burrell, Rowand, and Burriss . . .

    I kid, I kid . . .

      • Del Mar Dennis said, on July 1, 2011 at 2:28 pm

Nipper, I hope you’re well stocked for the Fourth. Me? I got the Clydesdale horses making a pit stop at my pad tomorrow. They better not forget the damn ice. One of my biggest fears in life besides the dark, sharks and bees is running outta ice. And the damn weather man says it’s gonna be hot.
Horses+beer+ice = Happy Fourth of July.

  4. TedSpe said, on July 1, 2011 at 2:36 pm

I’m confused. This is the second time Mailorderbride’s generosity has come up but I’ve never seen anyone post under that name here.

    • TedSpe said, on July 1, 2011 at 2:44 pm

Though I’ve read a Mailorderbride on the Splash

    • xootsuit said, on July 1, 2011 at 3:07 pm

She posted here as mailorderwife, I think. I suspect she checks in for the good baseball talk, but checks out when things go, what’s the word, south? sideways? I suspect there are a number of women Giants fans who take a similarly reserved approach to the flap.

    • TedSpe said, on July 1, 2011 at 3:13 pm

Oh. I must have missed it. Thanks

Yeah, nothing worst than warm beer on a hot summer day. all three days in North central CA are going to be in the 100 degree range!! An inner tube in my pool and a beer in my hand. Life is Good!!

California decreased its sales tax by 1%. I paid a dime less for my 12-Pack up the street at the liquor store. Beat that feel-good story if you can…

  7. xootsuit said, on July 1, 2011 at 3:08 pm

You guys have convinced me: I’m leaving the office early and heading for the store. Looks like I’ll need more than few IPAs to get through this scorcher.

  8. Del Mar Dennis said, on July 1, 2011 at 4:16 pm

Jesus H. Christ. How’s that for a double play? Great throw from the first row by the left fielder. Just tip your hat on that one. What once looked like a potential big inning turns into another goose egg. Welcome to your 2011 San Francisco Giants.

Hire that contractor that Seinfeld used for his kitchen cabinets. George used him to make a fancy little hiding place under his desk while he worked for the Yanks. He even put in a shelf and drawer for an alarm clock. You can’t beat that shit…

  14. Big flavor said, on July 1, 2011 at 4:45 pm

I’ll post the particulars when I get home but there were about 10 contestants for the tix

    • eddacker said, on July 1, 2011 at 4:48 pm

Listen, my days in SF are numbered. I fucken need those tickets.
Or else I spend my time in parking lot G hoping for a decent scalper.

    • xootsuit said, on July 1, 2011 at 5:43 pm

I think BF’s buddy scored MOB’s seats last homestand and enjoyed the view.

I grabbed a couple of great tickets for July 4 off of stubhub yesterday — club level over the RF bullpen (first place to get the shade 😉 ) — at a reasonable price. Today, a guy told me he couldn’t get tickets (some craigslist nightmare narrative developed), and Krukow keeps shouting tonight that they’re sold out for the 4th. I won’t miss a 4th at the park, when they’re in town. Yet I almost forgot this year because of all the other shit hitting the fan these days. Last time they were in town was two years back, Lincecum vs. Oswalt (Astros). G’s won nicely. Lincecum goes again this year.

Brad Penny’s still pretty good. Bumgarner is just plain good.

BTW, I like Jeff Gordon and the 24 car tomorrow night in the Coke Zero 400. Jeff’s a Pepsi man as am I. Fuck Coke. Go 24 and go Pepsi!

    • macdog said, on July 1, 2011 at 5:12 pm

“Fuck Coke.” I’ll bet Tigers fans were saying that a couple nights ago vs. the Mets.

    • Del Mar Dennis said, on July 1, 2011 at 5:53 pm

Yo, Ed. How do Brits like Kate Middleton? I think that girl is fucking fantastic. Her clothes are to die for and more importantly, she has two things you cannot teach — class and style. Did you see the Alice Temperley dress she wore at Wimbledon? Again, to die for. The Duchess of Cambridge is A-OK in my book…

      • eddacker said, on July 1, 2011 at 6:21 pm

I know that we here on the blog are not neanderthals. So it goes unsaid that there is no woman except the Duchess of Cambridge, Princess Catherine.
While there was a ‘Diana’ there is now only a Catherine. No woman over 12 and a member of the Royals is called Kate. And those of us participating here, as respective as we are, will refer to Mrs. Mountbatten-Windsor as Catherine or Duchess or sister of that hottie Pippa.

    • xootsuit said, on July 1, 2011 at 5:56 pm

To die for? Drink a few more weisers and get back to us when the residue of testosterone kicks in.

      • Del Mar Dennis said, on July 1, 2011 at 6:19 pm

Counselor, did you ever see Nicole Kidman in “To Die For” (1995)? She played the part of a weather woman, a psychotic weather woman, but that’s besides the point. Screenplay by Buck Henry (yes, THAT Buck Henry from Get Smart fame among others). And I kid you not. Her clothes were TO DIE FOR.

I’ve been told told I don’t know much, but one thing I do know is women’s fashion. Give me Nicole Kidman and Kate Middleton and say “good night Gracie.”

      • TedSpe said, on July 1, 2011 at 6:22 pm

        Good night, Gracie

      • xootsuit said, on July 1, 2011 at 6:28 pm

I liked the famous scene where Kidman no-look tossed the sticky things against the weather map behind her.
Amusing movie. Funny title, for a movie. Polish up your high heels and enjoy prancing around the carpeted stable in your front room while you sing God Save the Queen at the top of your lungs. We’re not judgmental.

    • TedSpe said, on July 1, 2011 at 6:04 pm

      • Del Mar Dennis said, on July 1, 2011 at 6:27 pm

This may piss off many, but so be it. I think Kate looks 100x better in a dress than Diana ever did.

      • xootsuit said, on July 1, 2011 at 6:29 pm

The only mythical Diana I know didn’t wear a dress. Would’ve interfered with her archery.

  30. Del Mar Dennis said, on July 1, 2011 at 6:00 pm

He was safe regardless if Burriss caught the ball or not. Our pitchers do the crappiest job of holding on runners since time remembered. But when the runners get greedy, Stewie has been know to make them pay. Sit down! And grab some pine, meat! This game is pretty fucking exciting. Giant baseball – gotta love it.

  31. Kevin said, on July 1, 2011 at 6:02 pm

Stewart needs to be the everyday catcher.

  32. PawlieKokonuts said, on July 1, 2011 at 6:02 pm

I think if Burriss had made the play [held on to the ball] at 2B, Stewart may’ve gotten the runner.

  33. EdGdsnInExile said, on July 1, 2011 at 6:04 pm

Apparently, Mr. Jackson didn’t get the report on Mr. Stewart. Have a SEAT!

By the way, Pablo now has a 12-game hitting streak, and has hit in 16 of 17 since his return.

Good effort by Crawford on that last AB.

    • EdGdsnInExile said, on July 1, 2011 at 6:06 pm

Good effort by Crawford on “his” last AB. And I haven’t started drinking yet…

  34. PawlieKokonuts said, on July 1, 2011 at 6:05 pm

I have to say, Penny is a bulldog. Or rhino. He was good for us, on loan, until he imploded against the Dodgers.

Hey, any word on Freddy Sanchez?

    • macdog said, on July 1, 2011 at 6:14 pm

From Baggs yesterday: “Freddy Sanchez has begun range-of-motion exercises on his injured right shoulder. Trainer Dave Groeschner said doctors should have a better idea in two weeks whether Sanchez will be able to play again this season.”

  35. xootsuit said, on July 1, 2011 at 6:18 pm

When Penny was here, I saw him hanging out with Lincecum and others in the OF during pre-game BP. He fit into a certain section of the clubhouse real quick.

  46. eddacker said, on July 1, 2011 at 6:38 pm

Does anyone think Bum doesn’t want to go?

  47. macdog said, on July 1, 2011 at 6:39 pm

At least this fuckin’ ump is consistent, he hasn’t given MadBum that outside strike the whole damn game.

    • PawlieKokonuts said, on July 1, 2011 at 6:41 pm

maybe but that last one looked especially strike-y; I wonder if Bochy took him out cuz of how pissed mumbling Bum was

    • xootsuit said, on July 1, 2011 at 6:41 pm

That last one was a good pitch.

    • xootsuit said, on July 1, 2011 at 6:49 pm

I think Kruk was right. Bum can’t lose the game now, gotta prevent that. And a good moment to go to the pen, no matter what Bum’s mind was like. Bochy’s ability to handle pitching changes is really pretty stunning. The numbers and known match ups just give him something to work with, like the sketches Miles Davis drew for the Kind of Blue sessions.

  48. eddacker said, on July 1, 2011 at 6:44 pm

And BW blows the game for the 2nd time in a row. I HATE bringing our, or any other closer for that matter in the 8th inning. Too late for that shit. Wilson would look a helluva lot better and pitch a helluva lot better if he lost the beard and donned some socks from Donna Karan. The Giants are fashionably challenged…

  51. Rough Trade said, on July 1, 2011 at 6:58 pm

  53. Del Mar Dennis said, on July 1, 2011 at 7:01 pm

  54. stixwiz said, on July 1, 2011 at 7:02 pm

Here we go again. Starters have good cause to sue the hitters for non-support. Another sterling effort by Bumgarner will not result in him evening out his record a bit. At a 110+ pitch count going into the 8th, Bochy probably went with him because of a BP that got stretched in Chicago. In hindsight and even in my intuitive foresight, it may not have been a good decision. Had the Giants hitters added one mere run in the top of the 8th the minor but telling BP meltdown may not have happened.

  55. Del Mar Dennis said, on July 1, 2011 at 7:03 pm
