Taming the Dirrrrrty Snakes
Yesterday was a good example of why I’m not worried about the Snakes. When your big free agent pick up is Jason Marquis, you’ve got problems. Marquis sucks. He’s usually good against us and he sucks against everyone else. But yesterday we slapped his ass around. And Voggy showed once again why he’s the MVP of this team. Ha, kidding. No more MVP talk from me. But he’s been lights out at home and how critical will that be come playoff time?
Cabrera has been fine. Nice to see him hit something. Really, anything was going to be an upgrade over what we had. And, Cabrera does have the *experience thing* going for him. I never doubted his attitude on his teammates, he seems to be having a ball out there. Who wouldn’t after getting traded to the World Champs? It’s possible he’s going to ride that high all the way to and through the playoffs. It’s possible. I still don’t like the bad karma of picking up the arch nemesis of our World Series hero. But whatever, we have a title to defend, I’ll worry about that curse if it ever comes to pass. (Notice how I never use the word *jinx*????) 🙂
by the way, Xoot’s post won POTVP but I stupidly erased it when I started over with Pawlie’s gold piece. If anyone knows how to find that post I’d appreciate it. I’ve got no idea what day XOOT wrote it.
I didn’t even see it nominated. Is the poll set up so that nominees can’t vote on their own posts? Pretty serious stuff, if so. So I don’t even know what post it was. I’m suspicious. Who else has behind the scenes access here? 😉
I think RT’s on the case. He seems especially intent on establishing that I won nothing, nothing! Now I ask you, is that the Christian way to be?
Post of This Voting Period. – xoot said something but we can’t remember what it was. Fuck it and congrats xoot.
Wasn’t that it?
Thought it was Pawlie or Zumie that won.
OK I went back to the poll and xoot wasn’t on it. It looked to me like Paul in Asia won.
I think an inquiry is in order. After Snarkk finishes up with the Stow witness murder, maybe he’ll set up a task force.
Whatever happened to “BIG?” You go on a diet?
“Nemesis.” “Karma.” “Curse.” Let’s reboot the vocab machine, Magnus:
Auspicious, propitious, roseate, benediction, benison, augury, pre-basking formula (PBF).
O Flapper Supremo, congrats on your #1 in the Fantasy League.
It is literally ephemeral.
I’ll creep back.
I’m surprised it took till August to take over first place in the esteemed Flapper Fantasy league. Will I ever look back? Probably in my rear view mirror, at least until the last flapper evaporates into the horizon behind me….
I would say that you don’t have to use your rear view mirror to see Tizzle and No Talent, you should probably be feeling their nasty hot breath down your back!!
Where as you can’t even see me in your review mirror.
Nice to see the offense get untracked for a day. Everyone except whitey contributed a hit or two, got on base/drove in a run. What I saw of vogs in middle innings wasn’t sharp, but with big cushion didn’t need to be.
I have not said anything about LU in a long time. Last year this was a daily grind, and 2011 struggles of the regulars (ross torres huff) plus the loss of Uribe Posey Sanchez left SF scrambling for replacements, most o fwhom have not hit much either. But adding 3 guys in is a plus. It looks like these guys are going to be a big help. Bochy makes out the LU and he knows what he’s doing.
The idea that you can just DFA people and the kids will fill in and be no worse doesn’t make baseball sense. There is zero evidence Belt, who hit .184 with .550 OPS in April, belongs hitting in any top 4 spot in the LU. He’s here to give Huff a breather and back up LF. Beltran is everyday RF, and Nate is back to bench vs. LHP and part time OF. Cabrera takes over SS for Crawford which is a gain in mlb experience and offense, Kepps takes over 2b and hits second, another gain over what was there before.
Looking forward to this series. Philly bats usually go silent here…they aren’t facing the rockies PS. And they should get ahead by the 6th if they want to win any games here.
Sometimes it’s the lesser moves that are key and I think Cabrera could prove to be significant. He’s got all that playoff experience and seems very relaxed out there. Craw was too inexperienced and wasn’t hitting, Font and Kepp are really 4’s, and Tejada was of course a D liability.
The key going into the WS was beating Lee in game 1. Feel the same about this series. Hopefully we can put some runs on the board early and ‘get into their heads’ a bit.
Seeing Scotty Garrelts name on the side here reminds me of watching him bounce that famous curveball of his (unhittable but also uncatchable) off the plate and into the stands once at the Stick. Runner on third late game at the time, not good.
Which reminds me that Sanchez goes tmw, right? Man I hope he was worked stuff out and can return to last season form down the stretch (like a few other guys). ABZ.
Fangraphs seems to think ramon H still available on waiver wire, if reds continue to hang by a thread. Whitey has to go. I know he isn’t going to hit, but his D is awful, and PS has to have confidence he can catch the f-ing ball. That noise about handling the pitchers is all for the public BS just to not make him look bad.
If Flavor says he accidentally deleted your post, tha’t’s what happened Xoot. Don’t fucking start. What I deleted the other night was your slander. Be happy I did.
It was a joke, fanny. And I speak the truth.
It would be a first. Jesus, even Yogi has caught you in lies. And you’ve already lied to Craig, Just get the fuck out of here.
From Craig:’
“For what it’s worth, Xoot totally copped to trying to irritate you and said he didn’t know why he does it but he promised to stop. FYI—he’s also sent a new email saying he’s done with the Flap until you’re no longer there.”
So get your fucking ass out. I see you even attempted to slander me on LaSalle’s blog, where I haven’t even posted for a couple years. This will not go well for you if try it again. I’ve even had to delete posts you’ve made about my cancer- you are a sick motherfucker, Xoot. You’ve even accused people of making death threats against me. Never happened, What your motives would be would only be known by a deranged invididual.
You are a liar. But I am gone. Duck you and your petty games.
Now, every time I see that Giants’ “driving instructor” commercial — where Bochy is in the back seat saying, “Are you sure you didn’t see yellow, buddy?” — I can’t help envisioning how his DL demotion conversation with Zito may have transpired.
“Are you sure someone didn’t foul a ball off your foot in BP as you slipped on a banana peel obscured in a divot left by Lou Seals’ golf cart during field drills, Barry?”
That girl seems a tad young for those guys to be having pajama parties with her..
Flav – I think this was the winning post and a good one at that.

Damn, Craig, since your one-day break from leading the Flap, you’ve had consecutive stellar opening posts. (Not to say your others weren’t…). I’m not necessarily super excited about game 1 as much as I am about the whole series. Phils could come out bombs-away in the first game, but the next two would show who’s in charge as well. Could also go the other way. You are absolutely right, the anticipation is the great drama as things start getting serious now. I’m not big on making predictions, I just would love to see some top-notch games this series, but if I had to predict anything, it would be that our bullpen makes a difference.
You’re also right on about recalling exactly where you were when Wilson struck out Howard. I was visiting the US, in San Fran for a few days but then back east in NJ seeing the folks for a couple of weeks before heading back to Saigon. Field of Dreams scenario, classic Americana, baseball with your Dad … sitting there in neighboring recliners with my 94-year-old father, die-hard Phillies fan for many of his decades, trying hard out of respect to contain my elation with that strike-out. I think all I managed to say was oh…… my…. god….. sorry, Pops.. and then skipped outside to have a smoke and just laugh out loud. My Mom, who emails me often, bless her heart, has already said my dad looks forward to some emailings these next few days, talkin’ baseball. I’m grateful to still have that chance.
Very small sample size, but Cabrera looks now like more than a minimal upgrade over Tejada. His range isn’t great, but it isn’t wooden, and he takes better ABs than slash and burn with the bags loaded. Hopefully that continues. Tejada can linger on the DL as long as possible, then be around the clubhouse in September when the roster expands just in case somebody gets hit by a bus. His “feeling dissed” comments to the media should tell us where his head is at, and it ain’t in a good place…
F Tejada, 36 year old whinnig about plaing time?? Be grateful you are even on a team!! Go grab some pine meat!!
Wow. Hatred of older SS is a sport around here.
Tejada apologized for his remarks, BTW, have you gotten to the bottom of the Stow witness death? Have any LAPD officials been arrested yet?
LAPD is embarrassing, all of LA is really. I still find it strange that in 1991, someone was able to Video tape the whole Rodney King beating, and yet in this technilogically driven time not one picture/video of the Stow beating. It is F***ing LA everything is caught on tape or whatever.
“The anti-Miguel Tejada crowd, which is most of Giants Nation right now, won’t care about this. But Tejada gathered the media at his own request to effectively apologize for his Sunday outburst in which he blamed reporters for spreading the notion that he no longer had the range to play shortstop anymore. Tejada said he was simply frustrated in the wake of the Orlando Cabrera trade and that his role with the team had been further diminished. But he said he supports the Cabrera move, doesn’t want to stir up trouble and added that once he’s healthy, still hopes to contribute wherever and however he can — at second, third or off the bench.”
nice to read, thanks mike and get healthy miggy
Good matchup of lefties tonight. After a good June, Lee has been up and down in July, mostly down, but getting run support. If Bum can get out of the first couple of innings alive, it should be a good first contest of the series. I’d give SF the nod tonight, they haven’t seemed too impressed by Lee…
“Nice to see the offense get untracked for a day.”
Or did it get “on track”? (grin)
“His “feeling dissed” comments to the media”
This is an incorrect and/or misleading statement, if I recall correctly. And it shows how important a single little word can be. The article I read in the Chronicle said Tejada was feeling dissed BY the media. He said the reporters are saying he has no range. He never said anything negative about his teammates or the Giants in general, I thought. If somebody can correct me on that, feel free to post the quote.
As the statement I quoted correctly points out ,Tejada’s apology and clarification won’t mean anything to his detractors.
I did not say he was pissing on his teammates. I don’t see how that connotation can be found anywhere in what I said, unless you are looking for it. He was pissed AT the media for having the perception that the media was dissing him. Is that better? There is no underlying tone or misdleading words in what I said. He WAS “feeling dissed”. It was clear in the articles who he was feeling dissed by — the MEDIA. You are full of crap, there was no hidden agenda or incorrectness in what I said. No hidden intent whatever in implying that he was dissing the teammates. This blog is getting tiresome…
I guess you’re talking to Z. I do see that his apology has been ignored.
Z: I recall when Renteria apologized for his performance the first year he was here. While it was clear from his statement that he was frustrated by the injuries that had held him back, Room Krueger jumped all over him, as if he had admitted to not trying. Some talked of him stealing from his employer. Anytime a Latin has spoken up, the Kruegermorons jump all over it. The problems between Bengie and Sabean were started with the infamous “clock is ticking” statement by Sabean, any man would have felt disrespected. So now we have this–Miggy, frustrated and injured, makes some remarks he comes to regret. The Krueger Klan is all over it but then totally silent when Tejada calls the media together to apologize and make clear his status as a team player…
Just got an E-Mail from Craig, saying he was mistaken- It wasn’t Xoot’s post in question, it was Paul’s.
Bubba Smith just pasted away
So, no Police Academy XXIV??
Was he copying or cutting when it happened?
PCs can be dangerous
So can an errant Ctrl-key shortcut . . .
As far as I know, currently only Craig, Doomin’ Denny, and Ferrethead have editor status.
You don’t?
I only use my powers for the good of mankind.
How does Belt not even get in yesterday for D and an AB after the team is up 8 runs in the 5th?
Huff plays and runs like he’s gassed, hurt, or both, so why not give him a blow in a blowout?…
The fiction that Bochy will not sit a vet has been laid to ruin, so let’s open the floor to alternative theories.
1.Belt is not really a white guy
2. Pacificat’s theory: early onset of Alzheimer’s
3. City can’t afford another parade
4,Just to piss off Snarkk
#4.
It’s classic Snarkk, though. Found something to complain about in an 8-1 win.
I just hope I haven’t reunited our feuding shysters.
Did Scott Ostler’s column borrow the Tourniquet sobriquet from me here?
Tourniquet sobriquet. . . .
The turn of a phrase . . .
Damn, yer good.
Rowand CF, Keppinger 2B, Sandoval 3B, Beltran RF, Cabrera SS, Ross LF, Huff 1B, Stewart C, Bumgarner P
Wow. Belt back down. Mark (19 lives) DeRosa is back in the fold . . .
4:57.01 vs my post of 4:57.05
Missed it . . . . . . by THAT much . . .
per baggs, The Giants reinstated Mark DeRosa and optioned Brandon Belt
I guess that was alternative #5. Playoffs guaranteed now…
Seeing as the last 2 callups were unnecessary they should leave him be til the Sept callups . . .
I understand Belt came up to start pretty much due to Ross being hurt outta ST. Fine, not optimal, but OK even though he wasn’t ready. Belt’s next call ups, and the Hector call up, seem to have been generated from the Twilight Zone of how to handle youngsters — in the most bizarre manner possible…
…
When they called Belt up, he immediately hit a homer and a double and won the game. Since then, he’s been Lamont Cranston. Now, we get Mr. Rehab for another try out. At least Belt will get some ABs down in Fresburg. So, when he’s freakin’ rakin’ again when he’s called up in September, he can properly be immediately shown the pine again…
Otherwise, the bench had just Torres, who is hitting about .150 against lefty’s and Eli as the only RH options.
Not to mention just one backup inf.
I’m sure Fresno has a blog where the morons can bitch about how Decker plays him..
I’m sure there’s a smarmy know-it-all who dogs them, as well . . .
*insert gay-ass winky face*
Speaking of ol’ Charlie:
“Let me tell you something. I have all the respect in the world for the Giants. We played them last year in the playoffs, and they beat us. Not only did they beat us, but they beat Texas. I watched every pitch of all the games in the World Series. They earned everything they got. Their starting pitching, they have a very, very very, very good staff. If someone wants to say they’re great pitchers, that’s fine. That’s fine with me. I did not mean anything bad at all against their staff. I have the most respect for them. Matter of fact, I love baseball so much that when I see people play and I recognize how good they are, believe me, they should get everything they deserve and they’re getting it. So I did not mean anything about their team. I just meant our team is good and we should feel like — and we’d better think — that we can beat them. That’s how I look at it. But as far as something about their team, no way would I ever say anything derogatory or mean. If I said that, or something, I apologize. Because I’m bigger than that. At the same time, I look at it as I think we can beat them and if we’re going to win (it all), we’d better beat them.”
Fair enough. Fine with me. Charlie Manuel is right out of central casting — played by whom? William Bendix?
Nah, he already played the Babe. How ’bout Strother Martin?…
In other words, “sorry, but nah, they still ain’t that great”…
I bet Baggs’ boys are dropping like flies. There hasn’t been this much angst since Torres got his first start for Bowker last year.
yeah. combine losing crawford, belt, and the slump of nate, they probably make soph look like stix.
what belt does in fresno is less important than what he didn’t do here, which is hit the ball with any regularity or authority. His last AB as a PH the other night was pretty typical, a lazy flyball softly hit to medium CF. He hit .200 vs. RHP, and had 2 HRs all year. Just not enough there to warrant regular PT.
If he was on the royals, OK. But bochy is trying to win a pennant and another WS. With all the problems elsewhere in the LU, anyone that hits consistently can be in it. Other than a couple knocks vs. LA, I just didn’t see much from Belt.
Like him or not, Huff whacked 12 bombs out of ATT last year, and the month of June hit well with good OPS. His July sucked, but last 10 games have pretty good avg as Twin pointed out. Hope he finishes strong.
“If I said that, or something, I apologize.”
Or something? Now, that’s an original thought. “Sorry Charlie we’re not looking for Phillies with good taste but rather for Phillies that taste good”
Bochy just used the word “superstitious” again on his pregame show when explaining his reason to keep Pablo in the 3-hole and Beltran at cleanup. Never underestimate the power of superstitions. You think I’m lying?
“Jerry, just remember, it’s not a lie if you believe it”. – George Costanza
I’d gladly pay you Tuesday for a split today. Go Wimpy Farmer john!
Bum luck!
How huge was that!
That DP was huge, but even huger was the call at third. Replay showed he was safe, but “the ball beat ya.”
You’re out!
I don’t trust Farmer John at home. His numbers across the board are discernibly at statistically in the “John” at home. All he’s missing is an Archie Bunker terlet flush in the background. Jesus H.Christ. Hunter Pence and and now Mayberry just flushed twice. Fuck.
BLEEP!
Fuck, I guess I should go to bed.
These guys are way too comfortable in the batters box…
I swear to Christ. Cody Ross needs to get plunked to knock this silly nonsense of tossing the bat into the stands. And not by the opposing team, that would be rewarding him with a free base. Cody needs to get plunked in BP. And by Matt Cain. Until that shit is resolved Cody will remain on my shit list. If I had one ball to toss in the big leagues, I would plunked Cody Ross right in the goddamn ass. You don’t flip your bat and show up the Horse. Plunk his ass!
Need the playoff Clown right here…
Sadly it’s the 2011 clown
Huff hasn’t reached the infield dirt in 2 ABs.
Thanks, Chuckles. He was also hitting .342 BA .386 OBP .860 OPS last two weeks. Thatr’s why they’re sticking with him..
Yeah, 11 singles (3 xbh) in 2 weeks. 3 RBIs. Awesome.
86 LOB.
With that OPS, the RBI total isn’t on him,Chucklefuck.
Strike 2 to Rowand wasn’t even close.
Wow, that’s twice tonite while Amy g is spouting some inanities and promoting her latest efforts on the website, something bad happened to the team. I have a solution, but don’t know how to make it look like an accident.
Let me know if you come up with it Willie. I can use it, as well.
Huff might be better off just not swinging. Take every pitch. Either get a walk, or called out on strikes. His ABs tonite have been pathetic. Maybe he needs to bat 8th…
Tough against one of the game’s best LH’s. He’s barely breaking a sweat tonight. Just 65 pitches so far.
ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…………………..
Wake up, Skippy!
Bum has been terrific since Mayberry hr’s
Goddamn Comcast is having major problems these last 15 mins. Think I’ll have to turn to KNBR…
Maybe a good change for us superstitious guys…
Fuck. It just came back. Now lost again. Fuck this.
It’s over, right . . .
Cody’s last at bat was so girl wearing a skirt as a top.
One thing about the new additions to the Giants’ lineup — while some other teams added new players for the stretch run (Phils adding Pence), SF didn’t have that luxury. The 3 additions simply replaced the talent that the team originally had (Keppinger replacing Freddy, Beltran’s bat replacing Buster’s, and Cabrera replacing the departed Uribe/Renteria shortstop situation and also Tejada). We all (I think all) picked the Giants to win the division and even the World Series based on that original roster; if the 3 additions do in fact adequately replace the original talent, that really should still be enough to win it all again, despite other key teams’ trading deadline additions. But of course every now and then, they will run up against the likes of Lee. Nice that we beat him twice in the Series, but he is an ace, afterall…
Nobody replaced Posey. He is severely missed on many levels…
Tough luck Bummie once again.
Huff got a hit?!?!?
I need to rip Huff more often. He finally hit something…
This is brutal . . .
I said Beltran’s bat replacing Buster’s bat. You are right that Posey is not replaceable as a total player. Miss Sanchez too, although less so than Buster.
Agreed, Sanchez’ loss was a doozie. Keppinger is able, good pickup by Sabes, but not quite the same contributions…
I’ve missed the last 2 innings.
I said that if Bum could survive the initial innings, I liked SF to win. He did, barely breathing, but then strengthened beautifully, which seems to be his MO of late. They can still get it done…
Once time, Rowie
Chuck, you know better than that. Gamer gets it done when it doesn’t matter…
That looked like Dirrty’s last pitch to complete his no-no. Swing the bat, Rowand!
And Kepp grounds weakly to second. Son of a bitch…
On the bright side, Wilson is getting a lot of rest the past week…
Oh well . . . Speaking of Drrrty, he’s baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack . . .
He gets Joanne Worley. He of the recent 3 hitter against us, and the 7-1 record
Sock it to me…
