3-0
That core was about what I thought we’d have to do to win the game. I’m tired of rooting for runs. Just get 1 or 2 and we’re going to usually be good to go. The solo HR streak is intake. I love it. Gotta run, I’ll catch you guys later today………

Baggarly reports Torres not happy about getting DLed; asked for permission and has now gone home to Puerto Rico for a bit.since he’s not due back until at least Aug 28. Not a good sign for team vibe. Probably he knows he’s not coming back next year…
Sharp Snarkk!
Zito’s “phantom foot” sprain followed by apparently real ankle sprain. Wilson’s back is acting up, unavailable today.
Volstad is a cupcake for the league, dunno about this Giants squad.
If they can’t score against him, it IS time to bring up a handful of minor leaguers…
ERA: 5.58
WHIP: 1.51
BA against: .302
HRs: 1 every 6.9 innings
We demand a win! On our coaches of course.
August 14 and we have the first to realize that 24/7 bitching about the offense was a dumb fucking excercise…Congratulations..
Unfortunately, that’s followed by Snarkkles blaming his favorite whipping boy ( last year’s true MVP and Willie Mac winnner) for creating a bad “team Vibe”. This is why they have the CBA for those questionable DL assignments. The Giant’s threw the “lesser” player under the bus so they could delay a decision on Beltran and still have another body. Torres could complain, but as any labor person knows, it’s not a real union, number one, and number two, then he really never plays again… as to not coming back, the best guess is that he’ll get another minor league deal with a chance to make the team..
Gamer has always been my favorite “whipping boy”. Torres hit .179 in his last 13 games. Even for this squad, that’s putrid. He was great last year. He’s been terrible this year. Reality bites. The team just confirmed that with it’s moving him to the DL without the slightest hesitation to keep Beltran around. Meanwhile Bochy says he’ll try to do “all he can” to give Belt some ABs. I’m so comforted by that…
I know the numbers, remember? All around, he remains by WAR, second only to Panda and Buster. As usual, you’re full of shit..
http://tinyurl.com/3hjmzw7
Management DL’d him like a hot potato.
I didn’t…
Read my post, they were wrong. I don’t think I could have made that clearer. But let’s compare how your putrid whipping boy has fared compared to the Danville Dandy since the AS break…both suck but Cave Boy has the greatert suckitude…
(BA, OBP, OPS)
Torres .235 .295 .592
Grok .233 .267 .581
There might be 700 people in the stands.
Pen needs to step up today. With this heat, the starters may not last too long. But, if I’m a batter, I’m probably swinging early and often to get back into the dugout quickly…
In other words, The Giants should stick with their SOP.
Great to see Belt in the lineup. My preference would have been to transpose him from the five-hole with Keppinger in the two. Not because Belt doesn’t have the extra-base power for that slot, but because that is a pile of responsibility from the get-go. Hope he does okay there and that Bochy is right on this one.
broadcast crews and concession vendors outnumber the fans today.
Logan Morrison gets tossed back to AAA for having a big mouth and a tool for an owner.
He was at .249 with 17 Hrs and 60 RBIs. On the Giants this year, that’s star stats…
With Beltran out once again we got us quite the cleanup hitter. He cleaned up alright.
Stanton is a beast…
Morrison, Stanton, what a juggernaut. 56-62, that’s a misprint, right?
And now the 5 is supposed to be too much pressure for the number one Giant hitting prospect?..
Well, maybe so..
Yay! Oh . . .
Cody breaks the streak!….
The streak is over! Long live the streak . . .
Trying times. Trying too hard. Whitey tries to stretch it. Nada.
That’s a Kangaroo Court fine right there. Streak breaker!
How about 20 more WITH people on base?
I’ll take 20 more of any kind…
Eli: It wasn’t “trying too hard”, it was “being a stoopid POS”..
Nate starts a new solo streak…
If Cave Boy can even approximate his first half, it would be huge.
Nate with the dinger!…
Pablo has always hit to all fields, When/if he gets back, Beltran might try hitting safely to any field…
‘Song’s got a nice little rhythm going now. Better command of the curve has opened up the corners for his fb.
As evidenced on that last K looking.
Belt hit that ball a fucking mile.
Keep ’em in the lineup! that was some serious oppo muscle right there.
Tomorrow in Hotlanta? “Mumble, mumble. We got to get Huff going…”
I won’t second guess Bochy after last year, but that is pretty funny…
five hole pressure is OFF!
Belt rips a tape measure oppo shot. Awesome!
Guess the #5 hole isn’t pressurized for the kid.
Bochy response? “Hmmm, he hasn’t done that well in Fresno lately, but I’ll try my best to get him some AB”s…
Giants did what they should have done against Volstad, he’s terrible.
Vogelsong looks back in the groove.
Now let’s play good D and finish it off…
Huff and Belt will both play plenty, like it or not…( in Huff’s case)
More of those pesky numbers:
Beltran’s hits are pulled 47 percent of the time
Pablo 27 percent
Doctor Beltran, first heal thyself.
“Guess the #5 hole isn’t pressurized for the kid.” Nor should it be, talk to the Sticker.
Voggy wasn’t pissed he got hit.
He’s pissed he’s got to stand on 1B in the heat…
Belt”s blast had nothing to do with pressure in the five-hole. It was a solo shot. Period.
So you still feel that the 5 is too much pressure for the best hitting prospect in the system? Alrighty then..
Listen up and make notes: Huff is going to play, Belt will play also. For Belt to get *regular* starts, it will be one of the outfielders ( most likely Rowand) sitting, not Huff. Got it?
None of this is knocking Belt, so don’t start. It’s fact- Huff ain’t getting benched. Even the dimmest bulb here should be able to figger out that against most pitchers, Huff and Belt will both play.
Agreed…I guess the question becomes who sits against a LH pitcher? Belt, Huff, or Nate?
If he’s not in the lineup tomorrow, there’s gonna be a bitchfest unlike any other…
BELT!!!
Bochy has no plausible excuse now to keep Belt out of the lineup. None.
The team has had a power outage all season, Belt shows he can start the generator.
Who cares who he supplants each game? Huff, Torres, Rohand — macht nichts.
Just play the dude every game…
Bochy would be lynched on Market Street if he does not play Belt regularly after today. Kid has demonstrated he belongs ~ no matter where BigbrainBruce decides to place him in the lineup ~ or in the field.
Vogelsong has also demonstrated that he belongs. Very economical pitch count over 7 innings at not even 13 pitches per inning.
Wonder if SF would have any interest in Morrison? No idea what he is like as a fielder. He’s deep in Beinfest’s doghouse, so the cost shouldn’t be too high. I wonder if Florida would accept Rowand in a trade IF SF agrees to pay all the salary differential for the remainder of his contract. Expensive, yes. But a free agent who’s likely to hit more than 20 dingers in a season would likely be pricier yet and Giants would still have Rowand AND his contract.
I’ve told you how it will go down- most games Huff and Belt will both play, So just STFU about it.
“BigbrainBruce”
Try to figger out indoor plumbing before you start insulting the best manager in baseball.
Morrison is being punished, he’s not on the trading block.
That was not intended as an insult, maybe a little sideswipe. As for being the best manager in baseball, i’m not in full agreement because of Bochy’s attitude towards younger players like Belt where he is loath to give them regular playing time (either 1B or LF would be fine by me for now). Morrison is obviously not the type to take “punishment” lightly. There is bad blood and it’s gotten worse with his recent demotion. He will NEVER be a happy camper with the Fish.
Though Vogelsong had pitched beautifully through seven, he obviously was sputtering a bit there in the eighth. Most managers, maybe even Dusty, would have pulled him after Bonifacio’s double. So even though BigBrainBruce may be the best bullpen manager in the game, apparently the heat and humiliated relatives in Miami evoked a bit of a brainfart on his part in that singular occasion. He did recover himself to prevent major damage by inserting Casilla, who obviously was the right choice to sit down Stanton.
Some good points, Stix…
Actually, not. With Casilla’s predilction for wildness and the status of Romo and Wilson, Bochy was properly hesitant to go to the pen.
Fortunately for the Giants, it does not appear they will face a LH starting pitcher on this road trip with the possible exception of Wandy Rodriguez….Though there is a strong chance he won’t be with Houston when the Giants get to town.
I’m just able to tune in now. Miller and the kid called this voggy’s best performance of the year. It must have been outstanding. Ha, Casilla walking was awesome
Casilla couldnt stand any further from the plate and yet he walks on 4 pitches…Unbelievable!
Then he doesnt know what to do once he’s walked….The bat boy had to direct him to 1b….Apparently that’s his first big league AB ever.
Zito’s real sprained ankle means he’s done for the season.
Even if he recovers from it in a coupla weeks, the Giants now have a real reason to warehouse him through the end of the 162.
We’ll not see him on the mound again, maybe ever, for the Giants…
Sounds good to me snarkk.
Bochy couldn’t give Casilla one more batter? Lame.
Rare Bochy mistake there. No reason to take Casilla out, Florida was going to have the L/R thing going regardless
I thought it more of a stretch to take out Affeldt. He’s been lights out, Ramirez has been getting hammered…
Yeah, he really fucked that up.
Even without Romo and Wilson- it’s a pretty good pen when Casilla-Mota are 6-7…and Bochy knows how to use it. End of story.
This was the prescription last year. 4 HRs key the scoring. They did not score today by stringing hits together. Let’s hope they find their power stroke — and this is not an anomaly against really bad pitching…
“If we don’t homer, we don’t score.” Sound familiar?
When you boys might have to do some teeth gnashing is when/if Beltran gets back.
Vogy for POTG. Stellar pitching in tough conditions.
POTG2 for Belt…
Onto Hotlanta.
Adios Flappers…
I’d say you have to make it tri POTG- Ross breaking the streak AND giving them the lead.
Huge win. Bullpen comes through again, but the real story is the combination of Vogelsong and Belt. Ryan is now clearly the fourth Ace on the staff, pitching beautifully in the muggy conditions of Miami. Belt has done what we have long expected him to do ~ inject that effervescence of youthful vigor and enthusiasm which has been lacking on this team since Posey went down.
Giants will not be going into Hotlanta with their pants down around their ankles and their butts sticking out. That power outburst, combined with generally shutdown efforts on the mound is a reversion to form all right. Nice to be off the schnoid of singleshot dingers thanx to Cody. How long has it been since SF clocked four in one game? Betcha its been a whole bunch of long time at home. Hitting on the road is critical to this bunch and today they showed they can do it. If Beltran does not land on the DL the combination of Panda; Beltran; Belt and Huff looks capable of not only standing up to the Snakes and wresting back the lead, but also of taking on the Beasts from the East come October.
Hard to ignore Ross breaking the solo streak and giving them the lead at the same time-whatfuckingever. So- if Beltran is back who are you sitting for Belt.,.Huff, Ross, or Nate? Forget what you do- what will “Bigbrain” do?
Twin: You have been on my case a bunch lately. Contentious bastard. What gives? Belt goes to LF five games to two on average. Other two at 1B. Maybe he sits vs really tough lefties ~ if one of the other guys does particularly well against them. Who sits? I think it should be calculated on a day by day basis, depending on pitching and venue matchups according to established records of the potential sitters. BTW: I did not ignore Ross. If you would kindly re-read my post you will see i credited Cody with getting us off the singleshot schnoid.
Personally i’m not real fond of arguments and contention. That’s why i haven’t posted on the Splash in ages. But if i get called out i will hit back. So even though you may have forgotten more about the game than i’ve ever learned, do please bear in mind that i’m a professional writer (retired) and that i do have a mean streak when sufficiently irritated. This may be difficult, but do try to maintain a positive vibe towards your fellow posters and Giants fans ~ even if you think that most of us are idiots most of the time.
Going outdoors now to attend to some important chores now that my services are no longer required by my fandom for the team. So if there is any expectation of response to another sally, it likely will not happen till around 7 P.M. your time. In the meanwhile let’s all hope the Mets stomp the Snakes.
Stix—good post.
I just saw that Lo-Mo got bounced down to AAA. The Marlins are fucking stupid. This is what you get from an 80 year old manager who thinks young players *should be seen and not heard.” Let your bat do the talking for you. He’s had a good year, he’d be Barry Fucking Bonds on our team…
I’ve re-thought it, Beltran isn’t going to be hitting the DL. Why would he he hasn’t hit anything since he got here…Thank you, thank you, I’ll be here all night….
drum roll!
Nip, I think you just secured your first ever POTD(!)
You goin’ out tonight to celebrate?
I’ve been on your case because of unwarranted shots at Bochy and Sandoval in particular. These are the team’s #1 and #2 assets, yet they get trashed regularly while others are criticism proof. Between the Splashmorons, InsiderIdiots, and Chuck’s Meth Heads, you’re goddamn right I’m testy. We win 5-2, hit 4 Hrs, and still vanilla heads are bitching…
You want bitching? The 49ers are gonna give Duante Culpepper a tryout tomorrow. Fuck me sideways.
Great news, I hope he does beat out Alex
If anything, Bochy has done an even better job this year- nothing from the #5, the many injuries, no consistent hitter except Panda.. it’s an incredible job.
I’ve always maintained that Bochy was our MVP last year. Same holds true today. I don’t know how Bochy would have used Helen Keller outta the pen, but given this lineup, “The Miracle Worker” still applies…
BTW, where the hell is Ted? He hasn’t been around for awhile. He always says goodnight and makes me think if I’m still a gentlemen (?) or not.
I know, I hope he hasn’t bailed.
400 lb + guys should not wear a Tommy Bahama silk sport shirt.
They’re meant for guys to wear at the beach, not for mammals who get beached.
wow, I just read through Chuck’s blog post-to-post (at least the most recent thread). There is a lot of weird, wild stuff going on there. And Twin, of course you are correct on the blitzing point. And, you will likely be proven correct on the *Smith* point. The blogger known s “Spit-Fire” is a trip. On the one hand, he puts a lot of time and effort into his posts–he takes up half the pixel space at Chuck’s blog. And her doesn’t ever seem to take things personally which is nice. Seems to at least like the Niners, if not understand the game. He even says a few funny things every now and again. But the *gay* jokes are the clincher. Anything you’ve got a guy who goes straight to *gay* jokes you know you’re dealing with a lesser IQ than yourself (and by *yourself* I mean anyone who doesn’t succumb to stupid gay jokes when they’re looking for a clever put down). Spit sealed the deal for himself when he decided after Game 1 that Kappy has no mobility. Idiotic. It was his first fucking pro football game, he wasn’t going to start taking off running every play. He was told to stay in the pocket and if he wants to become an NFL QB he’s going to have to think pocket first/run 2nd. He isn’t going to learn a thing about how to play at this level if he’s running all over the place. He needs to learn how to stay in an NFL pocket and hang like a man. As he grows more comfortable with the position at this level he will run with the best of them…….
I’m out as far as that Blog. There really did used to be some reasonable commenters, these guys are just “Hang # 11” and anyone who supports him on any level. It’s totally fucking ridiculous- some of them also post on the Insider and if Lynch even says Smith threw a good pass. they go into the “man crush” bit..
I like almost everything about Bill Walton but if he doesn’t STFU I’m going to lose one of the TVs to the pond..
Hope Belt, unlike Huff, is comfortable in the OF, and unlike Huff, doesn’t let it affect his hitting.
Should they get there, J. Sanchez is very much on the post-season roster bubble.
Well, when Beltran comes back ( and I think it’s entirely possible that he never comes back to play for us) it’s not like it should be that hard to find a spot in the OF for Belt. You figure Ross will play CF, Beltran RF and Belt can play in front of the 15-20 *other* outfielders we have who have been horrible this year, Huff is fine at first base. He’s certainly not our worst hitter, not by a mile. Leave him at first base and he should play every day.
Uggla’s hit streak is over and I gotta say, I’m a little bummed. He had 11 multi hit games out of the 33 game streak. The dude gave himself almost no margin for error. I found it kinda cool checking in on him every day to see if he coaxed out one, desperate hit to keep the streak alive. Most of those hit streak-guys are on fire. Uggla only had a multi hit game 1/3 of the time? And it was worse than that for almost the entire streak, he had multi hits in his final 3 games of the streak……..
I wonder if the minor league atmosphere of today’s game helped BB relax…
Upton just blasted one…..3-3 (5th)
Ha, I’ve already gotten an email calling me out for my 2:40 pm post saying that I talk about “smoking pole” all the time and use it as a putdown. Look, for starters, sucking dick is hardly reserved for gay men. I’ve known many women who take to the task quite skillfully. And the other thing is, I find it to be a humorous term. Sue me. If you’re looking for low-brow gay jokes that take the place of any coherent or clever put down, head on over to Chuck’s blog and you will see countless examples of them. I reserve the right to make a single, regular, humorous comment that can be taken by some in the gay population as derogatory. What I don’t do is default to spewing out 7th grade *gay* jokes every time someone pisses me off or I’m searching for a clever put down…….
How about that stud *Marquis* pick up by the D-backs? 2 shitty starts and a broken fibula. Back to the waiver wire!
Who are we to talk?
Marquis didn’t work out for the Snakes, We don’t know about Beltran yet.
Hey, Pk 6 carryover at Dmr. Any suggestions from the “Bay to Beijing” peanut gallery? I loved that old horse racing blog. Three guys w/o a care in the world talking ponies. Good times…
I can’t compete with these Pk 6 syndicates. Think I’ll try my luck with the late Pk 4…
