To Watch or Not to Watch?
I thought about skipping the game today. I don’t have anything else to do but I’m just having trouble gathering up any interest in anything baseball related pre-August 23rd. I am slightly interested to see the pitching match up. You have to think that Sosa will be pretty geeked to pitch against us. And Runzler starting is at least slightly interesting.
Interesting that Belt got the start vs Sosa. He seems to be much tougher on lefties. I think Bochy has finally waved the white flag on Rowand……..
Today’s been postponed due to lack of interest.
Wilson DL’ed. Our DL looks like a 25-man roster, our roster looks like a campaign ad for keeping your kid in marching band.
DL HEEM!
Runzler looks gassed from his warm-up tosses…
BA-DA-BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!
Send ’em back to Fresno. We demand more Rowand in LF…
Winter Memories off the board, Del…
Did ya see the MSW winner in the 2nd? She is a well meant running son of a gun. As Doyle Lonnegan said in “The Sting,” “ya falla?” Bernardini babies, baby…
back in the day, classic rant of the under-appreciated was “play me or trade me.”
with runzler on the hill, 3 may not be enough. but it’s a start . . .
As long as he stays aggressive, he’ll be fine. Still a major decision looming when Beltran returns. Huff is unlikely to be benched- so does he platoon with Ross and maybe give Huff a breather once a week or so? Can’t see Grok sitting now. Don’t care what you would do, what do think happens, you know: in real life..
This is for all.
oh shit. balls way out of the strike zone to the .199 guys, with men on base.
As long as he does what he did in the minors, which was to walk a whole lot when pitchers are not throwing him strikes, he’ll be fine.
There’s a diff between meek and selective. He’d been the former too often. Maybe I shoud have said “aggressive when he gets a pitch”.
Belt needs more seasoning.
This 3 run jack nonsense is just not good enough for everyday play…
sure, but in btw the HRs belt was 0-13 with 6 Ks. So either he swung at pitches that weren’t strikes, or missed the ones that were.
Which is why it’s too bad he doesn’t have 300 ABs this year. The micro analysis of Belt’s performance over 100 ABs is less telling than asking whether or not the Giants record would be any worse if he had seen more ML playing time this year. I think the answer is no.
good (not the result, but bochy’s quick hook). Unacceptable, in every way possible. As the Hawk says, “He gone”, hopefully for good.
this could be the end of danny-boys major league career.
Nah. Runzler is a lefty with heat, still relatively young I think who k’s more than a batter an inning. The Giants could probably trade him for something a if he was released he would be snapped up in a nano second…..
This innings has smoked copious amounts of pole…….
shit, meet fan.
Runzler isn’t going anywhere other than maybe back to Fresno. If so, he’ll be back.
Runzler stays where he is. We’re going to train the lad. Rags, you’re in charge…
Given the chance to play everyday, Belt will produce. Reason for his “meekness” at the plate is the simple fact that he is Bochy’s yo-yo boy, jacked around continually. At long last it would seem that Brucie has finally admitted to himself that Belt is at least preferable to Rowand. Sometimes progress is gradual. Was it in June that SF had its last three-run tater?
Flav: Think you are correct in your assessment of Runzler being still young and with a bunch of potential. He needs a whole lot of personal coaching, off-season work, that sort of thing. Betcha the Cards would love to offer a trade for him to get him under the tutelage of Duncan Donutz. For now, of course, gross ineptitude with his current straightline heat and little more to offer should quickly end the experiment. It is high time to bring up Eric Surkamp.
His job, like anyone’s, is to be ready when Brucie calls on him… whether it’s everyday or once a week.
It doesn’t seem fair that only Dirty merits the coveted “Basket Case” label, though. I’d have to say that Dan has earned it.
Runzler is definitely a head case. He’s the guy who can’t throw to first, right?
agreed, on both counts.
few years ago during the dark days, kruk used to regularly praise guys who had “electric stuff”…but didn’t know what the f to do with it, and would get lit up with regularity. runzler fits right in there.
Fellow Flappers and Giant fans, I want you to look at the person next to you, be it your wife, girlfriend, significant other, mom, pop, son, daughter or favorite neighbor and look at them good. Then I want you to slap the fucking shit of out them while telling them this is exactly what this teams needs — a wake up call.
They’ve really become the SF (sac-fly) Giants…
Belt should not come out of the lineup the rest of the season, except for a day off here and there. He’s learning, but when he squares it up, it goes. Squatter may need to go on the DL this week with a foot sprain to make room for Beltran, then we may not see him again after the callups — maybe he can visit Chicago in the meanwhile to see a Bears preseason game. Mota should not get too much crap for his first inning. He got rushed in from the Runzler meltdown, wasn’t ready to go. No excuses from now on, though…
So, who sits when Beltran is back? Real world. Other than the occasional rest it won’t be Huff. Platoon with Ross? Or Grok sits…
or ?
In the platoon scenario, Beltran to CF, assuming he “consents?'”
In the real world, Squatter got traded bor a bag of corn nuts or DFA’d a long time ago…
Mota deserves the Willie Mac award hands down.
It will be Sandoval.
Hands down.
Nice to see you’re now doubling up on your obsession with having the last word.
Wonder what the thinking was in bringing up Edlefsen when Wilson got D.L.ed. Last season and going into this one i was as high on Edlefsen as anyone, more so maybe. This year he has mostly regressed as he got slotted into the PCL meatgrinder. Perhaps this is the kid’s one chance at The Show, his 15 minutes of fame. Mayyybe he succeeds in the bigs. My preference for the promotion ~ at this time~ would have been Dan Otero who absolutely excelled in AA and has held his own quite well at Fresno. Hopefully the Giants brass know what the hell they’re doing and i’m just blowing smoke.
he’s just filling a spot, I don’t know how much of a *chance* he’s getting. Too bad Kroon regressed, it would have been great to see him realize this dream of returning to the major leagues and pitching in a game in front of his kids…….
gotta think that Huddy is out of the game now that he’s finished 7 strong against the doosh-backs. It’s too bad that we can’t win a game every now and again. Arizona is losing as many as we are these days……
I think Belt will end up sitting. Nate has been playing well, though he hasn’t really hit this series at all. Rowand or Ross in the leadoff position. Obviously, I’d prefer Ross though he sucks too. Torres could be back next week, I could dig me some Andres in center field regularly when he gets back….
Belt can stay on the team, give Huff an occasional breather and take a start away from Nate once or twice a week. Belt had a chance and he didn’t take advantage of it, today’s excluded. I suppose he still has a few more games to get hot and take the job away from Nate when Beltran comes back next Thurs or Fri…….
In the platoon scenario, if you aren’t going to play ross, who leads off?
that’s why I said it has to be Rowand or Ross leading off. One of them gets an OF spot. That is, until Torres comes back. Ros has been nearly as bad as Rowand……
Something I’ve never understood….edelfsen in the dugout there, sitting all by himself. why? No pitching coach or stewart to talk to, go over what’s working/who he faces next inning if still in there? Unwritten rule, that whomever is in there on the mound gets left alone btw innings, regardless of what happened?
Maybe no one knows who he is…
gold.
Hats off to Edlefsen for his one out fireman job. Maybe that could be his role. That’s projecting a lot, though. There are guys who can come in with ducks on the pond and almost always successfully get outta the inning. It may be a talent more rare than that of closing out the game in the 9th.
Flav: I’ve given up on Rowand, except in a P.H. role, where he has had a good measure of success. Aside from that limited slot i’d place him in the Boar’s tits category.
and I’m already tired of Belt’s annoying habit of striking out looking. The other day he went 3-2, struck out looking and never swung the bat once. Unacceptable…..
We’ve scored like 50 less runs than the Padres, the goddamn sorry-ass piece of a motherless joke Friars this year, and you guys are juggling up our lineup like it’s gonna make a difference — it’s not. Do like I do, bitch and moan about it till it makes you feel better (if that helps) then understand, it’s not gonna get any better.
We’re DEAD LAST in runs scored. It’s embarrassing, and we’re not worthy Garth.
That makes you feel better?
I see Stewart’s new strategy is the old, “Id rather be lucky than good.”
I like it. I use it all the time at the track…
Kimbrel does his job, now c’mon Giants!
Sac fly time…
dammit, Cody. Unfortunately he uses the “I’m neither lucky nor good” strategy.
Dang, we just *never* get the sacrifice fly when we need it.
Ross has been leaving runners on third all season. He’s gone from playoff hero, having a big role in getting the Giants the ring, to being a guy who actually seems like an obstacle this season.
we got like 4 of them the other day in one game……
Like fuckin’ little leaguers…
Stewart is goddamn motherfucking idiot, and got his just deserts on the base paths.
thin the fucking herd…
Weve gone from not being able to score a run to finding intriguing new ways to not score them
I get knocked for using the “we deserve to lose,” comment. Well… we deserve to lose after that one.
I will not support nor tolerate that kind of shit from my ball club. Not only do we deserve it now, but I’m hoping we do.
Fuck us.
I know you don’t mean it…
well then you have hit an exacta, of sorts. You’re rooting against the Niners too unless you can find a sane way to explain how you want the team to win but the QB to fail……
I switch hit from Little League through high school and I would have reacted the same way Sandoval did (probably woulda bailed out a little harder 🙂 ) In hindsight, he really had no chance once they put the lefty in to face him…..
and Dennis, you seem like the type of guy who needs a reminder now and again:
Here ya go…

I can’t believe we’re the World Champs having to trot out shitty lineup after shitty lineup each and every day.
And oh yeah, we did it with NO Whitey. I love this team. I love all you guys and gals.
I’m so happy for everybody. And I’m so happy for our beloved “Blockhead.”
Plain and simple; Bochy is the goddamn man.
He was drunk.
everyone is frustrated with this team. We don’t all express our frustration in the same ways……
Say, Flav and Loo…here’s one that doesn’t deserve to lose, SPARE CHANGE. This Dkbbr. 2yo Bernardini filly out of the Storm Cat mare, Finder’s Fee, is the real deal. If ya find a few pennies in your sofa cushion, A Derby Future wager on this girl wouldn’t be the worse bet ya ever made in the world. And I know you’ve made worse bets than this one. 😛
thanks, but I don’t do futures anymore. For one, I’ve never hit one. And for two, a couple of times I’ve ended up getting better odds the days of the race then I did when I bet them 2 months prior!
Bochy is managing to lose. Previous inning, Huff got onto 2nd with no out via the gift wild pitch. No bunting, let ’em hit. Result, Nada. Lucks out with Cabrera, don’t bunt him with Stew at first and no outs, the OFer blew the Cabrera bloop play, otherwise it’s a DP with Stewie running. Yesterday, Astros bunted over 2 guys to get them on 2nd and third. Both scored. This looks like a AAA game, and the home team is better…
another epic job by our pen. And this pen isn’t even *our pen*. No Wilson, no Romo, Affeldt is now the closer and then there’s the new guy. Once again, if we win this game, the pen is our POTG…..
the good news with Rowand and Ross smoking each other’s poles is that there is an open lane on the rail for Torres to slide right through when he returns. And I think that’s great, Rowand is as done as burnt toast and Ross, as I said last Winter, wasn’t going to be the guy we he was when we *met* him…..
Torres at least gives you a bit of hope when he’s at the plate—he’s fast, plays great D, easy guy to root for. I can’t wait for him to take back CF and the leadoff spot……..
WTF are you thinking, Bochy? Belt can’t hit lefties. That should have been Rowand hitting…
One area of zero disagreement- the pen has been just stellar all year…
Most frustrating to me is how often we see normally smart players make bonehead mistakes.
“Ross has been leaving runners on third all season. He’s gone from playoff hero, having a big role in getting the Giants the ring, to being a guy who actually seems like an obstacle this season.”
Coming in to today’s game, he’s 1-10 with runners on 3rd. His BA w RISP, however, is 250.
His OPS as a lead off batter is 750, which is a lot better than Rowand’s. His overall OPS is also much better. Ross should not lose any ABs to Rowand.
agreed, but steer clear of “is better than Rowand’s”. Everything is better than that guy. Frozen yogurt is better than him. That still doesn’t say much…..
Starting to feel like it’s not our year…
How does a guy as fast as Grok get thrown out on a ball that deep? Unbelievable.
He a fucking pussy, that’s why. Knock his ass over and dislodge the goddamn ball.
Grok is a pussy.
That slide from Shitholtz was residue from the Posey accident at the plate.
Fuck that. Hit that motherfucker into his next born child. Pussy. We deserve to lose.
None of this shit would be happening, if Belt hadn’t watched strike 3 in his previous AB.
Knock a guy who’s 3 fer 4 w/ a HR and 3 RBI for his lone out of the day.
You’re a winner in my book James…
Bochy has been managing to lose… contact play, suicide squeeze, hit and run… Snarkk, report to Denny for that slapping..
He finally listened to me and did the squeeze after I’ve been bitching for small ball. For the last two months. They can’t even do that right…
Hit and run is small ball, dipshit.
To be fair, the pitch looked like a backfoot slider, a tough pitch to bunt.
I don’t wanna hear any bitching about that Rowand out at second.
Remember, we deserve to lose today.
Speechless.
In the previous inning, why put in Tejada for Font when Font’s already had some good ABs, and is a better defender? Especially when you know they’ll bring in the righty, and Tejada is a DP and K machine? Boch lucked out with the bloop as Tejada predictably swung at crap. Now Tejada may be hurt, and the left side D is as risk. Now Squatter wincing at first (intercostal strain looking for a DL spot), and gets thrown out going to second. This game has turned to farce…
STFU.
Jesus, it wasn’t intentional but he fucking interfered with Rowand. It never ends
Loo are you fucking kidding me? You waited till the top of the 9th of a tie game to toss in the towel? This, after I have explicitly warned you about the impending date of August 23rd, the 12 game home stand and the fact that we don’t play a single team the rest of the way with a winning record? (I’m lumping in with all the other losing teams since they seem so enamored with the tag lately)……
So we’ve lost Zumie, Snarkk and Denny before August 23rd. You guys can come back after they steamroll past AZ in the early to middle part of September but you’re gonna have to ask nicely 🙂
I haven’t throw it in yet. The upcoming homestand will go a long way to seeing if this outfit has anything left. If Beltran can hit, and Belt continues taking called strikeouts, along with 3-4 days, they are still in the race for sure….
I won’t necessarily agree with Snarkk that the play is AAA today, but it’s low-quality obviously. Still, if the Giants can get out of there with a win today, it would be huge.
That “that’s ball 4, I’m taking first” from Cody Ross just furthers my disgust w/ that sumbitch since the day he tossed his bat after he homered of the Horse. Fuck him. He still needs to be plunked.
Flav, you’re getting me excited about this upcoming 12-game home stand. Do I sense a 9-3, or maybe even better prediction coming from you? Great news like that would help squelch my negativity and pessimism. Maybe. 😛
Nice, Grok.
That’s what you get for not running over the catcher at home plate when ya get the chance.
Pussy. We deserve to lose.
The challenge for the Giants is that the D-Backs schedule the rest of the way isn’t all that tough either. They play 4 against the Nats, then the Padres, etc. Those 6 between the Giants and D-Backs loom large and crucial for the Giants.
Good AB, Nate. Guy walks Huff, pressure on, swing at the first pitch. The Giants way.
If the Giants pull this motha out today, the earth may spin off its asss, uh, axis…
Damn. that was the best sac bunt I think I’ve seen…we better walk this guy to load the sacks…
Atlanta with the 1-0 victory over the D-Backs. Cool!
Well, we walked ’em, but not by my liking. Bare knuckles time…
Take a picture, it lasts longer.Strike 3!
The only thing missing there was the beard.
That was some nice pitch calling.
Affeldt showed some hair, there. Had ’em all the way…
Tejada sure looks fat…
Belt, damn those called third strikes, really sucks when you go 4 for 5. Gotta sit him next game, figure out how to be aggressive on the strike 2 count…
