A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

I’m keeping it simple today, Flappers. No, not because I’m slacking or anything like that, but because this has been something that has been on my mind over the past month or so, and I am interested to hear your take. But before I get into today’s thread, I wanted to share a thought.

How Fricking Cool is it that our beloved Giants have FOUR players who will be STARTING (not just representing) for the Senior Circuit tonight? Not only that, but they represent the starting battery and an OF and IF position. Has a Giant battery EVER started an AS game? I am pretty good at digging up archaic bits of information, but not sure I can drill-down on this one (anyone game?). Regardless, I just think it is awesome that we have four starters in tonight’s game!

Anyway, what I wanted to throw out there for you all to chew on is what do you feel are the three most important things needed to make the Giants more competitive in the second half? What makes their chances of winning the West that much stronger, and of going deep in the playoffs that much more a reality?

My take on it has changed like drifting sands as the team plugged along in the first half. Is one of the three priorities signing a RH bat with some pop? Is it most important that Tim finds his mojo and becomes the Big Time Timmy Jim of old? Throw your thoughts out there in priority-order, or not (hell, by the time today’s thread runs its course, it very well may have changed).

Personally, and not in any particular order, my three are:

A right-hand bat with power (does not need to be a starter)…this could be a 4th OFer or a guy who can play the corners

A right-hand middle reliever (think Mota) who can come in for a tough inning, or give you multiple innings

Tim to find his mojo.

There you have it Flappers…let it fly!

Probably, but Panda’s was the hit that broke it open, and with 2 out no less. Pulling Pablo early was to be expected, though, might kill his chances. Great day for our guys, though.

Surprised that players are allowed to “Tweet” and do other social media bullshit while the game is going on. Fast forward 5 years from now, I see a manager flipping laptops out of players hands vs. the after game food buffet spread.

By the way, the “Flap-love” I’ve read today has reminded me why it would be so difficult to actually press the delete button on the site. Last night, I started writing a thread that was titled “At 5pm Tomorrow I am Deleting the Site”…I stopped typing and had a rare moment of clarity and decided to stop and it was automatically saved as a draft under my “posts” tab.
And I’m glad I didn’t post it. But I had just run out of ideas of how to handle this *situation* here at The Nation and I have gotten beyond frustrated with what to do. I tried taking a backseat role at the Flap by creating The Stable Boys, a group of 12 Giants fans who have earned my utmost respect for doing something I know most of them really didn’t want to do but did it for their love of the Giants and this community. My goal in doing this was three fold: 1) I wanted to take a break from the *constantness* of posting a thread everyday. 2) I wanted to freshen up the content by having new voices author something everyday. 3) I wanted to stop engaging Michael in arguments everyday.
The first 2 were accomplished but the 3rd one never happened. In fact, I think it made it worse. I’ve been feeling very resentful towards him for many reasons that I don’t need to get into here.
Simply put, I haven’t been meeting the standards of my own Conduct Code and that’s pretty pathetic. I’ve tried to figure out why and I think it comes down to a lot of past shit from here hitting the fan with a bunch of current shit from my 3-D life. And that’s resulted in me acting unreasonable here at the blog. I realized this last night when I got totally pissed off at my daughter’s mother for failing to overnight her bike key to her after I had left her $, filled out the FedEx package and placed the fucking key inside. I mean come on, it’s a fucking bike key, lol, there was no reason for me to get THAT mad about it. Anyway, I sent it myself today. I have to do EVERYTHING myself in my life and that’s part of the reason I don’t trust anyone to follow through on anything. But I’ll tell you, if any of you guys know what it’s like to be a single parent, not because of a death or a divorce but because of total disinterest in parenting and general incompetence of the mother, then you might know why I have gotten used to living in a constant state of stress and simmering anger………
Anyway, my point with this long, personal, probably unnecessary post, is to say the following: I apologize to Michael for engaging him in arguments that didn’t need to happen. They didn’t need to happen in terms of the frequency of them or the following intensity of them. And I apologize to the blog for having to put up with this shit. I know that no one here wants to read that crap and it’s nice to see today that many of you just *scroll down*. Everyone should do that.
Now, I am not saying I am going to stop calling anyone out on something that I believe needs to be said. And I don’t want anyone here to feel like they can’t have a debate with a blogger or argue with them. Fucking mix it up with someone, that’s what this place is all about. And if you want to read more about it, check out The Flap Conduct Code to the right. It stands. I don’t want this place to be a bunch of dudes slapping each other on the back with *knowing dude head nods* that threaten to snap clean off at the back of the neck. That would get boring and it would totally unrealistic.
I’ve taken a step back to appreciate why I started the blog, what my role in it’s current demise and what I am recommitting to do as both a blogger and a blog owner. I promise nothing. But I am hoping for the best because I really do love this place…….
And earlier in this long, long post I said that I don’t trust anyone to follow through on anything. Well, for the first time in my life I have been able to do just that. And I salute all 12 of you motherfucking stable boys with a *knowing dude head nod* that is genuine and honest and an example of why The Flap is made up of the best Giant fans on the planet………

Thanks Flav, but I’ve got to point out it’s really 11 Stable Boys (it’s one louder isn’t it) and you. Once again you had to step in for a fucking clown to get it done. I tip my cap to you my friend and thanks man.

I responded to 78 and I’ll go further. There is little doubt that the number 1 issue is as has 78 said- the relationship between Flavor and myself that spills onto the blog- and there is no more blame on one than the other. I’ve discussed this privately with Craig today. The fact is that the new format has been an improvent but the numbers are down- and even one incident like the other night is bound to cause some to throw up their hands and think “here we go again”. It’s not that there’s a beef- it’s that it goes on and on and on- someone has to suck it up and end it- I’ve told Craig I’ll just go over to the Splash and kick troll ass if helps keep peace here. And I’m not violating a trust if I say, as he did, that Craig knows he has to not violate his own rules about these things. Craig is considering shutting this down for good and I think posters here should urge that he not do so (edit).

Couple that with the Giants (all of them) playing key roles to ensure this advantage, it does seem like . . . Destiny?

“the best in the business”— McCarver, on Girardi’s bullpen management this year.
I don’t think there are too many dumbfucks more dumb than Tim McCarver….
When Mariano went down, Girardi gave the closer job to Robertson, despite having a proven stud closer already in his bullpen getting paid many millions a year (Soriano). Yet he still chose Robertson. Well, he promptly blew a couple of saves and then hurt himself and hit the DL and THEN Girardi went to Soriano who has been lights out since then.
And for that dumbass to ignore Bochy’s brilliant management of the bullpen this year and beat off all over himself to *Girardi porn* is just too funny. McCarver should thank God every day that he has a job that pays him a lot of money that he totally and completely doesn’t deserve to have………

absolutely. It could not have gone better. Well, Pablo could have hit a grand slam and he could have caught that ball, but that’s it.
Melky is the MVP of the all star game, I think. And if I dig around for it I would probably be able to find the post a few weeks ago where I predicted it!

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on July 10, 2012 at 7:44 pm

Zum, I think Ted Williams said something like, “The All Star Game was made for Willie Mays” because of how good Mays was in the All Star games he participated in. My point being that I can’t recall a time when not one, but multiple Giants played a significant part in the All Star game or as you said, “. . . the Giants All-Stars destroyed the AL . . . ”

Giants fans are very proud of what our players did this evening.

The National League dominated from 1950 to 1987, winning 33 of 42 with 1 tie. This included a stretch from 1963 to 1982 when it won 19 of 20, including 11 in a row from 1972 to 1982. Personally, I remember the aforementioned period as the National League OWNING the American League.

Since 1988 the American League has dominated, winning 18 of 23 with 1 tie, including a 13 game unbeaten streak (12-0-1) from 1997 to 2009. The National League ended their 13 year drought with a 3-1 victory in 2010 and won again most last year. Looks like we are back to the National League dominating . . . as it should be. 🙂
