A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

In a word, it’s……

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on April 4, 2014

So how would you describe Angel Pagan’s hair? In one word. They’re riffing on this on KNBR this morning and the texts coming in are pretty good. “Billowing” was my favorite. I offered up “organic” and it got a shout out by Murph. One guy offered up this one: “it reminds me of a warm safe place that as a child I’d hide.”– obviously not one word, but epic in it GnRness.

They covered most of the best ones already but wanted to see what Flap Nation could come up with (sorry I’m not posting a picture of his hair in all its “resplendency”, I’m at work and I can’t post pics from this computer).

Okay G-men…time to find your hitting shoes, again…

Huff did good. One bleeder away from perfect.

Right now, I’d say the rotation is at a 1 1/2 alarm fire out of 5. One for Voggy, and 1/2 for Timmy and Cain combined…

Review time? I am listening and cannot see the play…

Sit down Boch, he was out by a mile.

I was going to break something if they reviewed that.

Billy Hamilton had a rough first series against the Cardinals, going 0-for-12 with six strikeouts, so manager Bryan Price has decided to give him a breather (sitting against the Mets). I’m not certain who said it here, but I’ll repeat it – “You can’t steal 1st base.”

  7. snarkk said, on April 4, 2014 at 3:37 pm

Giants seem determined to let LA back into this game. Why can’t our pitchers hold runners better?…

Does Dunston watch the game from the dugout of is he watching on a tv? I havent seen any shots of him. If he is in the dugout, you have to think someone watching on TV is giving him an indication of when to review.

I would say he was at the Fox Inn on Santa Monica Blvd, but that’s long gone. Anybody remember that place? When I lived in LA back in the Pleistocene, the guy named “the Fox” would sing songs, tell vulgar jokes and chug beers while standing on his head. He’d challenge anybody to a chug contest, and beat them upside down. I got blasted there at least once, had a good time. Buddy of mine that went to UCLA grad school lived about 2 blocks away. The Fox would lead the crowd in “Zicke, Zacke, Zicke, Zacke, Hoi, Hoi, Hoi!, and then all chug. He’d chug a dozen beers in a show. Per Wiki, died of prostate cancer at 69…

Same guy from the “Man Show?” Always wore a Bellmans’ uni? Had HUGE horse teeth too.

      • snarkk said, on April 4, 2014 at 4:33 pm

That’s him. He owned and chugged at the Fox Inn long long before the Man show — I saw him in the early ’80s. That’s where they saw him…

      • sandy32koufax said, on April 4, 2014 at 4:36 pm

Actually, I CAN see him sitting in one of the ‘Kit-Kat Klubs’ A string of seedy titty-bars spread across LA county…no, I’ve never been to one

      • snarkk said, on April 4, 2014 at 4:43 pm

My favorite memory of living in LA, a two-year stint in the early ’80s, was on a golf course in Encino. My buddy and I got hit up on basically all day on this course, and we couldn’t go anywhere, the course was loaded to the gills. Typical LA public golf course, packed like the freeways. Anyway, we got tired of tee shots rolling past us on the fairway (and we could play then, our tee shots were usally about 250 in the days of wooden clubs, so it wasn’t like we were duffers, we knew how to play). If you’ve seen the “sideways” movie, that’s what happened. I hit one ahole’s teeball back towards their tee with my 3 wood, and my buddy pounded one of the other balls into the turf. We finished the hole, and the aholes skipped the hole and intercepted us at the next tee, standing along with two groups ahead of us waiting to tee off. We almost brawled after major testosterone expletives, luckily there was a marshall there, and he kicked those clowns off for skipping over a hole. Hilarious…

Listening to Vin Scully call a game has become a new form of torture. Very sad.

  15. Flavor said, on April 4, 2014 at 4:34 pm

yeah, wad blown early. Not one hit since. And I agree with you Bozo, I’m listening to the Scully feed right now and it’s just not good.

    • sandy32koufax said, on April 4, 2014 at 4:41 pm

Bah! Way better to listen to senile grace than full on snooze like Fosse and Kuiper

    • Bozo said, on April 4, 2014 at 4:42 pm

Calling Ryu RyO and RyA in the same story was kinda funny (I was waiting for him to call the pitcher Dya Rya). The “Kemp did everything right, except the wall” was funny but a lot of his ramblings are just sad. The dude used to be at the top of the game.

  18. zumiee said, on April 4, 2014 at 4:42 pm

Hilarious. Miller talking about how Kemp threw a fit before the game when he wasn’t in the starting lineup originally.
So much for the pundits that talked about the Dodgers having a “nice problem” with 4 outfielders who could be starters. The FIRST day when all 4 were ready, the Dodgers had a crisis in the clubhouse. Who could have seen that coming, besides just about everyone?

    • snarkk said, on April 4, 2014 at 4:48 pm

The clubhouse stuff will either blow ’em up, or keep ’em stirred up and playing like the early ’70s A’s or the late ’70s Yanks. Donny 2X is going to earn his salary this year, and that’s just for the off-field crap he’ll have to handle…

      • zumiee said, on April 4, 2014 at 4:53 pm

The difference I would say, though, is that the early ’70s A’s and late ’70s Yankees still found a kind of unity vs. their obnoxious owners.
The 2014 Dodgers strike me as the classic 25 players/25 taxi cab team. Well, maybe Puig and Uribe share a cab. 🙂

      • snarkk said, on April 4, 2014 at 4:57 pm

Could be. I think there’s at least a few solid guys on that team. But, most make so much dough, that could be a divisive thing…

  19. blade3colorado said, on April 4, 2014 at 4:42 pm

Nice. Sandoval’s key fielding play the difference in my opinion.

  21. salty said, on April 4, 2014 at 4:48 pm

I thought big key was Huff and Guitterz snuffing dodger comeback and momo in the 5th-6th. Good win without using RomoCasilla. Tomorrow should a mismatch. Knock on wood.

  22. snarkk said, on April 4, 2014 at 4:59 pm

What are we going to do about Voggy, gents?
One more or two more starts on his shortening rope? Who would replace? Petit the first choice?…

  23. blade3colorado said, on April 4, 2014 at 4:59 pm

Listening to the Donny show . . . Says, “Puig was humbled and handled not starting due to being late . . . genuinely thought the time was different . . . ” Dodgers broadcast team though thinks this is a big issue and they are not happy with Puig’s act.

    • snarkk said, on April 4, 2014 at 5:06 pm

How are you getting the LA radio feed, blade?

      • blade3colorado said, on April 4, 2014 at 5:13 pm

Not the radio feed, the TV feed . . . Bulldog and a couple of other former Dodgers.

      • blade3colorado said, on April 4, 2014 at 5:14 pm

        Sorry, I didn’t answer your question . . . http://www.vipboxus.co/

A win, I wish Vogs would have made it through 5 and I wish we would have still been hitting after the second inning, but it’s a win.
First time through the rotation and I might be in the minority here, but I’m not ready to 86 Vogs and make our man Hud the Ace of the team. It’s a bit early in my opinion to shake things up. Enjoying another win though, yee haw Gaints.

  25. snarkk said, on April 4, 2014 at 5:11 pm

Kruk, post game. Decided against giving player of the game to Puig. Bwah ha ha…

  26. blade3colorado said, on April 4, 2014 at 5:18 pm

Puig just interviewed and he seemed very sincere about being late . . . Apologized to his team mates and fans. He didn’t make excuses. That being said, he fucked up and his team mates are rightly pissed off.

    • snarkk said, on April 4, 2014 at 5:19 pm

How ’bout a sincere fine of one game’s pay?…

  27. Flavor said, on April 4, 2014 at 5:48 pm

now that’s how you do a replay. Girardi challenged immediately and they were probably in replay for about 50 seconds before they came back with the correct call. Nice.

I was ready to take the gas pipe if we lost; fortunately, Macdog, Sam P., and Aidan C., all East Coast fellow Giants fans, kept me steady via texts while I was at a very, very rough girls’ lacrosse game. Plus, one of the fathers of the players fed me stuff from his smartphone in the last inning. We beat Auburn 10-8 and are 3-0.

It’s already a Dickensian year. Vogs gets 2 RBIs and still can’t manage a W.

    • Macdog said, on April 4, 2014 at 7:40 pm

Congrats on the lax win. Who’s next, ‘Bama?

    • DJLoo said, on April 4, 2014 at 7:43 pm

Ever hear of Anthony “Gaspipe” Casso? Big Dodger fan…

  29. paulinasia said, on April 4, 2014 at 7:55 pm

The DogEars will win a lot of games this season. Best way for the Giants to keep up is to beat LA as many times as possible in the head-to-head matchups. It won’t matter if LA wins 10 more games than SF against the rest of the schedule, if the Giants can win most of the head-to-head games. A good start today. And Snarkk, agree about wanting to see Hicks more at 2nd.

    • DJLoo said, on April 4, 2014 at 8:08 pm

Didn’t quite work out that way last year,Paul…unless they go 16-2 against ’em…

    • paulinasia said, on April 4, 2014 at 8:09 pm

      I’d settle for 14-4…. 🙂

Just watched the highlights. Didn’t realize we got off to such a big start. A good friend of mine is a huge Dodger fan and was at the game. We get after each other pretty good and I still remember him vigorously high-fiving several strangers around us a few years back when Manny Ramirez hit a pinch hit bomb off Romo to cap a comeback the last time I was at Dogger Stadium with him. I wanted to choke his ass out right then and there. The thought of him just settling into his seats for opening day and seeing the Giants put up a 6 spot in the top of the 1st puts a big smile on my face.
Glad to hear Bozo say to give Vogy some time. Yes, he pitched pretty badly, but LA has a loaded line-up and it ain’t like they move the fences back a hundred feet just cuz you got an 8-0 lead. Also looked to me like AGone took out a pretty good pitch that was down and away.
I’m still on the Voglesong bandwagon.

The fucking A’s just got postponed because they forgot to put the tarp out LAST night. It’s been slightly raining here today, nothing since about 2pm and no rain is in the forecast tonight. All the fans showed up (what’s that, about 8k?) and then they told them the game was postponed. lol, the booing ensued. What a ragtag low class operation. It’s no wonder Beane likes picking the low fruit there. With spewing sewage and grounds crew that spend more time taking bong hits than following simple directions, he’s got it made there in terms of doing whatever the fuck he wants (minus spending money).

    • willedav said, on April 4, 2014 at 9:13 pm

I think the Kings wish there was a tarp inside the Oracle after being down 32 at end of first half. Yeow.

willied, I saw some of the 2nd Q of that game at my health club and about barfed. What an exhibition. I wouldn’t call it basketball. Unwatchable, but I watched it for the garbage factor — like looking at a train wreck. People paid lots of dough to see that? And, Fitz on KNBR says college ball is unwatchable? Ha ha ha…

    • snarkk said, on April 4, 2014 at 11:13 pm

A’s cancelling a game because of wet infield is a hoot. The didn’t tarp the infield overnight because they thought it would not rain due to advice from a “consultant”, then it did rain — a lot. What, nobody has cell phones to call in the help and tarp it up? Infield turned to mush. So, they let their fans come into the park, pay parking, probably get beers and food, then 10 minutes before scheduled start told them “oops”, game cancelled. What a bush league operation…
