In a word, it’s……
So how would you describe Angel Pagan’s hair? In one word. They’re riffing on this on KNBR this morning and the texts coming in are pretty good. “Billowing” was my favorite. I offered up “organic” and it got a shout out by Murph. One guy offered up this one: “it reminds me of a warm safe place that as a child I’d hide.”– obviously not one word, but epic in it GnRness.
They covered most of the best ones already but wanted to see what Flap Nation could come up with (sorry I’m not posting a picture of his hair in all its “resplendency”, I’m at work and I can’t post pics from this computer).
Breck Girl
In SF, hair HAS to be “artisanal.”
epic.
I’ve told my daughers: the definition of “artisanal” = outrageously expensive…
Still, I *salute* our angelic pagan demi-god.
Lincecum had the good and the bad I guess, but giving up the bombs is still troubling to me. Giants take a quick lead right off the bat, 3 batters later it’s gone and they are behind. They tie it up, couple innings later another monster bomb and they are behind again. Giving up 4 runs in 6 innings leaves his ERA at 6.00.
The first pitch to Golds that left the yard was not down either, and Trumbo’s bomb came on a *hanging change up*. I realize these are guys that will hit HRs (even one trick pony Trumbo will get his) but in both cases they were 2 run shots…this is the same type of stuff that happened to him last two years pitching out of the stretch.
Next start should be rematch with AZ at ATT next week, see who makes what adjustments.
I did not see the game, but heard Trumbo’s blast came on a hanging splitter. Whatever…the pitch is not the issue…the fact that he left it hanging IS.
Last year, when he had a rough outing…it was always “he pitched good, he just had that one bad AB or inning.” This reeks of that.
Given Bum’s and Cain’s less than stellar starts, I am going to give Tim a pass on this one. I AM impressed that he did not walk any (that is huge and kudos are approprtiate). But he needs to know when to go after a guy, and when not to (GoldyLocks). Hoping this is something on which he can build. Tim Hudson…paging Tim Hudson…please report to The Freak’s locker immediately…
Yeah, Timmy ptiched real well around the 2 bombs.
All the more frustrating.
Devilishly angelic hair . . . Morse’s hair is a pale comparison
Either that or ‘Welcome to the Jungle’
“Almost cut my hair, it happened just the other day.
It’s gettin’ kinda long, I coulda said it was in my way.
But I didn’t and I wonder why,
I feel like letting my freak flag fly,
Cause I feel like I owe it to someone.”
He couldn’t be Crazy Horse without his glorious mane!
Loo, thanks for the batter/pitcher “ownage” stats last night. Very cool stuff.
Describe Pagan’s hair in one word? Insidetheparkwalkoffhomeruncoiffure, yeah, that’s the word I’d use.
I like that neologism of yours.
Hair n’ there n’ everywhere. My thought on Pagan Baby is that if he can start 120 to 130 games we got this one.
When you have that kinda RBI moxie coming from the leadoff man it means that pitchers cannot even relax vs the 7th and 8th hitters if there are no outs or maybe one down. It also means they may relax vs our 9th place hitters. Hudson, anyway, will make them pay.
As much as many of his teammates and more than some, Pagan strettttttches out this lineup to the point where starters facing them will tend to get earlier and earlier exits and SF hitters will dine on bullpen tenderloins.
Mentioned it a few days back but maybe it needs repeating: Giants have a deep and powerful offense this season. It may be stronger than any SF hitting corps since the ’02 team. If that were not enough, the bench has improved greatly over recent attempts. Buster and Belter make for a one-two punch so potentially potent that Pablo, Pence and maybe Morse as well will be positioned nicely to continue the carnage.
Highly unlikely SF will sweep the LaBumbos this weekend. Today’s pitching matchup is a bit one-sided and so is tomorrow’s, but from the other direction. Way is see it is that the closest contest comes on Sunday between Greinke and Cain. If the Horse can readjust to his big-boy shoes, i see SF taking two of three.
The Mane Man.
Epic!
Speaking of ownage, and I’m not even sure this is true, but it sure felt that way, was Dennis Martinez vs the Giants. Seemed like every time we faced him (mainly with the Montreal Elbows) he’d throw a 5 pitch shutout and we’d lose 3-0.
San Francisco Giants
1. Angel Pagan (S) CF
2. Hunter Pence (R) RF
3. Pablo Sandoval (S) 3B
4. Buster Posey (R) C
5. Michael Morse (R) LF
6. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
7. Brandon Hicks (R) 2B
8. Joaquin Arias (R) SS
9. Ryan Vogelsong (R) P
I’m surprised the Dodgers activated Kemp from the DL, but have him sitting vs. Voggy, while Ethier gets the start. I don’t see that lasting.
In memory of Warren Zevon, Angel’s Hair is “perfect”…
Key start for Voggy. He doesn’t need to throw a no-hitter, but he needs to throw a decent start. Even something like Timmy’s yesterday would be OK in my book — pretty good, sandwiched around a couple of bombs, at least keep SF in the game, and get through 5 or 6 innings…
Yep. I have no idea what to expect from Vogelsong heading into this game. Well, I know what I expect. I guess I’m hoping for the best.
Pagan’s doo – ThermoMegaBitching…
Correcto El Mundo . . . Yasiel Puig reportedly was late to the stadium Friday morning, and the Dodgers has benched him in favor of Matt Kemp. Hilarious.
Puig for President…
Just kidding…fuck him.
Clubbin’?…
Uribe must have left his chaperone post early to go home to bed…
I like the line-up. Craw gets a day off, and Hicks gets a start.
Not a big fan of Pence in the 2 hole but I like how 1-6 could almost be in any order.
This Pence as #2 experiment will be short-lived, IMO. The guy doesn’t take pitches and work counts, and doesn’t make contact enough. He’s got speed, which is good for #2, but the rest of it doesn’t compute. As for Belt as #2, not a lot better so far, since he’s striking out so much…
I still think Belt in the 2 hole is the best option despite the Ks. He’s basically become the hack machine the club has wanted him to be.
Pence avg 125 k’s a year.
Pagan’s hair, Herculean comes to mind. Anyway, was discussing how the Pitching and the Offense has been reversed. The pitching in 2009, 2010 the games were 1-0, 2-1, 3-2 type games, and how many games did Cain and Timmy lose due to no run support. Now the Offence is there and the Pitching is well good, just not what we saw in the earlier years. And yet the Giants won 2 WS with that pitching and lack of hitting throughout the years. The two years they went to the Playoffs and the WS the offense was very good not great. Well It was great cause the won two WS. So this year the O is carrying the Pitching a little bit. I am enjoying it. Oh and I prefer Adrianza at 2nd over Arias. GO GIANTS
Yep, the window of dominant pitching is closed. So far, it looks like Bum and Huddy as #1 and #2, then Cain and Timmy in no particular order, then Voggy struggling to stay afloat as #5…
Funny, Puig called a team meeting a couple days ago so he could clear the air with his teammates. Then he pulkls this shit a day later? Classic.
Maybe he told them he was going clubbin’, and asked for more chaperones since Uribe was getting tired of it…
You just need your number 2 in the order to be a good hitter and a decent baserunner. How he makes his outs is irrelevant, which is also true for the other spots in the line up.
I haven’t had a chance to repeat this observation for quite a while — the passage of time has made it like new again. I sure hope everyone else feels the same!
What are your thoughts on the hit-and-run play?
I say that in regards to the 2nd spot in the order.
I think the hit and run is one of those plays that does little to increase your run productivity.
So, the guy that strikes out the most and takes the least walks of the regulars, all other things equal, is just fine in the #2 hole?…
Good hitter = high OPS.
I guess I’m saying I think Belt is the better hitter.
Sheesh….
“Los Angeles has won its last four home openers against San Francisco by a combined score of 22-2.”
Well, the Giants are DUE to change that then. 🙂 🙂
With Voggy going, let’s hope it doesn’t change in the wrong direction…
Sure. It is only the top of the 1st, but ya gotta like the start!
There’s been a lot of controversy about the replay system.
Most close calls are probably inconclusive upon “further review”. But the process would be improved if no baseball people were involved in the review, IMO. Reputable people with good eyes are all the qualifications that should be required.
Except for the reputable and good eyes stuff, I’d be perfect.
Enjoy the game.
Absolutely agree. LaRussa, who was one of those in charge of developing this replay system, said on radio the other day that his group originally preferred having a 5th umpire at each game up in the booth. That ump would essentially review every play, if need be, and would communicate to the field if a review were needed, and was n progress. Then that ump would solely decide and convey the ruling to the field. But, they couldn’t find an additional, needed 17 “qualified” umps to do it. As in major-league ready umps. That was rich. I’d posit that any posters here with a morning review of baseball rules (including a coffee break), would be qualified to review and make the review calls…
Beast mode!
Good to see these two out hits.
I’ve got it! NO…I’ve got it! Bahaha…
This day game against the dodgers forced me to make the gameday purchase through MLB. Sounds like the Giants are jumping out early. Go Giants!
The ghost of Mack Sennett must be filming at the Latrine today…
I LOVE dinking and dunking the Dodgers, since they’ve done that shit to the Giants for years…
Wow.
VogleTron! Pa-Gone! Ryu-WHO???
WTG Vogs.
All with 2 outs
Best possible start to this one for Vogelsong.
Doesn’t get any better than this…
Vog might need all of em.
Well, knock on wood, Voggy couldn’t ask for a much better situation to pitch in this one…
Nice 1st inning. Just don’t stop the scoring here.
I’m on radio, so I don’t know where the pitch was, but of course Panda swings at the first pitch in the AB with Ryu struggling to throw strikes. Somebody tell me it was a good pitch to swing at…
He’s just trying to do some damage!
Voggy needs to shut ’em down this first inning, that’s big. Don’t give ’em any hope. The opposite is what Zito used to do — get a lead then immediately turn around and give up some runs…
Vogel 91-93 …encouraging
Morse flashing the leather. Maybe he isn’t a full-blown hack in LF. Nice start for Vogey…
Morse — his first official putout as a Giant!
Pat the Bat’s return just got a little less likely… 😉
Was that Larry KIng picking his nose in the seats behind Home?
Am I too optimistic and too early thinking this offense looks a lot better than last year’s offense?..
Nah…I don’t think so, snarkk. I share your thoughts. It’s early…but I like what I am seeing…
HanRam…thank you very much….
This Hicks dude is making a push to be the default 2bman…
I’m loving this two out hitting.
I’m up for another 5 or 6 runs, how about you guys? Pour it ON. I’d like to see the stands empty out into the parking lots by the 5th inning…
Keep piling it on Giants!!!!!
Fuck LA!!!!
The good news for all their shit ass fans , they get to leave early in their beaner mobiles!
Giants with 8 RBI. Everyone EXCEPT these three have at least one: Pence, Sandoval, Posey. Who woulda thunk it…
snarkk – I would like to see Hicks get more/the majority of the starts at 2nd base until he proves he doesn’t deserve it. You know…until Scoots is ready… (grin) (That’s for you Kevin.)
Ha ha, very funny Chuck, I could probably be in baseball shape before Scoots is!!! ha ha JK everyone, just Kidding!! I am a 59 year old bruised and battered old man. ha ha no no I am not describing Scoots.
Salty, if Vogey is really hitting 91-93 on the radar and keeps it up for 6 innings, that’ll be the best Giants news I’ve heard so far in 2014.
Just walked in . . . As I expected, the Giants are abusing the Dodgers. 😉
What an enjoyable 1st inning. My plan was to catch the top of the 1st before leaving for work, expecting the usual 6-7 minute inning. But 6 runs and 20 minutes later . . .
You still going to work Mac? 🙂
I’m got in about a half-hour ago.
Ahh . . . Hard at work, huh? 🙂
Hmmm….time to fire up the bullpen.
I’ll be surprised if Vogelsong is still in there in the 6th.
6th?! Fuck, I’ll be surprised if Vogelsong is there in the 4th. 64 pitches through 3 innings…back to back homers, and a double, and no outs…get the hook…
I still expect the Giants to win this game, but Voggy is done and the Giants need to find an answer to replace him this season.
First Petit then Escobar?
I could have sworn I heard Kruk comment that Casilla could be a started in the replay last night. Not saying I think it’s a good idea but I thought that was kinda funny and out of nowhere.
You guys in the bay area know better than I dirt – who would you have in there?
I think it would be Petit, Huff then possibly Escobar. I don’t follow the minors as much as some of the others so heck, I don’t know. I’m just hoping it is not both Lincecum and Vogelson faltering. Filing one hole on the starting staff is doable. Two? Yikes.
Well, I was at least hopeful with Timmy – it was huge that he had no walks and struck out 7. Voggy just looks lost out there. Makes sense regarding your order of replacements, i.e., Petit has earned the first look, then Huff and Escobar as you said.
Paging Edwin Escobar…Mr. Escobar…please pick-up the emergency phone now…
Question – If Vogey gets through the 4th with no further damage, he’ll be around 80 pitches. Do you bring him out for the 5th so he gets a chance for the win?
Yes, then his ticket to Fresno. LOL.
Whew. I suspect we see Vogey start the 5th. But with his pitch count (81) realistically, it will probably be his last inning if he gets through it unscaved…
Well, he did hit 93 once in the first.
Was 89 on the first hr and the double. Back up to 91 on that last pitch.
I wouldn’t expect they will look outside their system. The answer will be Petit, Huff or Escobar. At least until the deadline.
Then Zito will agree to sign for $1.:)
Agree didnt see your post dirt
HA, yeah we crossed streams there. Are you the same salty that calls into KNBR on occasion?
Not me. I haven’t listen to that show in years.
Steve – you extend your stay so you can join us on the 25th? You know you want one of those Kuiper bobbleheads homeboy…
Now, I am really confused Chi. I just received an email from Flavor saying you guys are going to the game on April 25th. You indicated earlier, as well as here – May 25th (which I can probably do). So Chi, which is the actual date?????
You better check with those guys as well . . . You may be the only one there on May 25th. LOL . . . 🙂
haha, it’s 25 April……2014 😉
Hmmm…I probably screwed-up on seeing your dates…thinking you were going to be here 12-25 of APRIL. And no…I do realize the Flapalooza is on APRIL 25th. WTH…get a ticket and bring your ass out for the weekend. You can do it…you’re fricking RETIRED. Giddy up and make it happen homeboy….
LOL. You don’t know my parents (particularly my mom). I have a “5 day Sanity Rule,” i.e., the main reason I am out there from May 12-27, is that I will be watching their dogs, tending the garden and house, while they are cruising in Alaska. Any additional days would be hazardous for my mental health.
Take it Mom doesn’t read the flap. 😉
Not unless you are a spy for her. 🙂
Get the hook! Come on Bochy…WTF…
8-0 lead and can’t even make it thru the 5th. Oy vay.
Stick a fork in Vogey…crank up the phone and get Escobar on the next plane out of Fresneck…
My date of mid-May or whatever for the over/under on Voggy getting cut or DL’ed looks like it will fall on the early side. How can you not make it through at least 5 frames when staked to an 8-run lead by the 2nd? I said when he did it that I didn’t understand Sabes re-signing this guy. And Voggy’s done nothing to change that opinion…
That’s a good start, Huff. Need to set the fuckers down…can’t let them think they can get back in this thing….
Looks like Huff is wearing Goggle Glass.
I think we might need to score a few more runs in this game.
Pablo!
