A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Wandering in the Darkness

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 30, 2014

San Dawg laid down the gauntlet and challenged me to rise up and lead Flapper Nation out of the valley of darkness. I’ve tried all morning to come up with something that i could truly believe in writing and, sadly, I’ve got nothing. This reminds me of the time we were at the game last April and we were trying to get up to the Club level. I was wandering around looking for the elevator or escalator, Diggity was trailing behind. Suddenly, he realized I was lost and he just goes, “How can this happen? You’re Big Flavor…”

Absolutely one of the funniest moments of that game…..

And when San Dawg reads this thread, I imagine he’ll say the same thing as he did that day. Sorry, my man, I’m lost  in the darkness like everyone else.

Because the bottom line is this: this isn’t a bad stretch and they aren’t losing because the team is pressing or gripping or whatever Krukow said this morning on KNBR. They are losing because they have too many bad players playing for them. There’s a reason Dan Uggla was let go by the Braves. And it wasn’t to clear a pathway for the vaunted Tommy Freaking LaStella. It was because he was done. Kaput. Cannot play mlb anymore. Can play beer league softball with Byrnes if he so chooses….

Look at the bottom of today’s line up: Panic, Blanco, Susac, Lincecum. You simply cannot score runs consistently when 44% of your line up, IN A ROW, sucks like that. AQnd it doesn’t matter if Uggla or Arias or Arianza or whoever gets subbed in there.

So that’s all I got today. Another loss is looming. And the sun has set on our season…..

BBOTD In keeping with your theme BF, the Sun has set on the Giants season. Well I bet when the sun sets on this young lady she will be having a better time than the Giants.

Yeah, your dad said that BEFORE the collapse, didn’t he? I mean, we were riding high when said that, right?

I just hope getting Belt back helps some. This season CAN be salvaged. Besides, we get waiver-wire claims in front of the Dogs.

Pfffffft. That’s all I got in the optimism dep’t.

Rudy: We’re gonna go inside, we’re gonna go outside, inside and outside. We’re gonna get ’em on the run boys and once we get ’em on the run we’re gonna keep ’em on the run. And then we’re gonna go go go go go go and we’re not gonna stop til we get across that goalline. This is a team they say is… is good, well I think we’re better than them. They can’t lick us, so what do you say men?

      Also from the article

Will they add anyone else, say, Emilio Bonifacio or Asdrubal Cabrera or Chris Denorfia?

Those are among the irons in the fire, but nothing was imminent at least as the first pitch neared Wednesday.

Roy: “I’ve… seen things you people wouldn’t believe… Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those… moments… will be lost in time, like tears… in… rain. Time… to die…”

    Er….OK, Roy….uh, thanks.

  36. SanDawg's avatar SanDawg said, on July 30, 2014 at 3:05 pm

Runners were on 2nd and 3rd. It appears runner on 2nd thought there was a runner on first, so he just started sauntering over to 3rd after the walk. Susac somehow doesn’t notice him halfway on his walk from 2nd to 3rd and no one alerts him. He tossed ball to Machi, who then gets notified by someone that this knucklehead is walking to 3rd base and throws to Crawford, leading to two rundowns and two outs.
    That’s their take, anyway.

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on July 30, 2014 at 3:38 pm

See? All I had to do was write a “give up” thread, pop up a new BBOTD and we’re good to go.
Bonifacio could be coming our way in the next hour or so. Of course, there are 2 other teams in on him so Sabes probably gets outbid……

  42. Chipower9's avatar Chipower9 said, on July 30, 2014 at 3:46 pm

WTF…so good to see the boys rallied. I bailed when the Bucs when up 5-3. Let’s get some more runs here boys. Giants need a win…fuck, I need a win to help maintain any semblance of sanity.

  43. Chipower9's avatar Chipower9 said, on July 30, 2014 at 3:49 pm

Bonifacio strikes out a lot, low obp and BA. Sounds like Sabean’s kinda guy. Probably the best he can do without giving up too much.

    • James's avatar James said, on July 30, 2014 at 4:20 pm

Good call, Bonifacio is truly a Sabes kind’ve player — look he’s batting .279! Never mind that it’s been Wrigley and KC the last two years, and the rest of his stats are subpar.

He’s no better than Arias, who, like Blanco, would also probably go on a hot streak, if you gave him the ABs.

      • dirtnrocksnomo's avatar dirtnrocksnomo said, on July 30, 2014 at 4:26 pm

Yep. I’ve said more than once that I am fan of Sabean but at some point his fundamentally flawed approach to the offensive side has got to catch up to him.

      • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on July 30, 2014 at 8:02 pm

Thank you James. It means a lot to me to have it come from someone else. GH and others were clamoring how he would be a big upgrade…even more so than the likes of a Zobrist. Seriously, thanks.

Three cheers for the Battling Bullies: 6.2 IP, one hit, three walks, NO RUNS. Go get em road warriors. Nice parting note to the place which should be officially called WILLIE MAYS FIELD. That and an adjustment to the wall in right-center and Jobu will be much pleased and give us back our homefield magic.

Nice to see Blanco’s contribution and those by the two rooks, with Susac gettilng his first ML hit and RBI. He will have plenty more of both sporting the orange and black.

We’re reduced to cheering for some kid by the name of Susac. What’s next the grasshopper found on the turf? Remember all the great players of the past? The name GIANTS used to mean something.
