A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Waking Up to A Win

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 23, 2014

I admit it. I didn’t watch the whole game. Getting up at 4am has it’s limitations on when you ultimately shut your eyes to go to sleep.

But I caught the end of the game on mlb.com.

Glad we won, now I feel that we can at least relax a little on the wild card.

The baseball gods are shinning down on Gregor Blanco. He IS the White Shark once again.

He’s gonna have to be if we want to make any noise in the post season this year. I have counted out Pagan and Morse for the rest of the year…..

someone took a picture of Strickland and it looks like a painting. Check it out

Perez is such an awful hitter. Never gets off his back foot. My friend filmed me playing stickball last week.
I look like Mantle compared to him…

Man, Pence is in one of his bad turns, swings at ball 4 that seemed headed for the backstop and fouls out to the catcher.

Had a great trip to SF last week. I apologize for not letting any of you locals know I was in town but it went by way too fast…Between a gay Mexican dude putting his arm around me while the piano guy sang Danny Boy at Lefty O’doul’s and me walking out without paying my tab at Lori’s diner it was a bit of a blur…I told my dad on Saturday that I was afraid the Giants peaked too early and that the Pirates were peaking at just the right time. I hope I was wrong.

    • SanDawg's avatar SanDawg said, on September 23, 2014 at 8:50 pm

Embracing gay men at Lefty O’Doul’s! Dining and Dashing at Lori’s! Sounds you like you had the full Union Square experience! Did you spend any time at Rasputin Records or maybe knock down a broiled steak at Tad’s?

      • WilcoJoe's avatar WilcoJoe said, on September 23, 2014 at 9:12 pm

Of course I did Rasputin’s. Every time I come back to the city, I get a big grin knowing one of the greatest indie record stores is still there. Tad’s was my first choice for a drunken late night meal, but I didn’t have the patience for the line.

I love Bum’s fire, but he needs to let some of this shit go sometimes. He gets riled up and loses focus, and that’s when dudes get some hits and dingers off of him. Puig isn’t stoopid enough to really go after Bum, he knows the Undertaker would kick his arse…

Tad’s on Powell was one of my great childhood memories…what was the pizza by the slice down near the end of the cable car line? My last year before moving to DC living in he City included working across the street from the St. Francis at a hotel management company…Rasputin Records I don’t remember though…

    • WilcoJoe's avatar WilcoJoe said, on September 23, 2014 at 9:20 pm

Your thinking of Blondie’s pizza which is right next door to Rasputin’s. There is an even better pizza by the slice place next door to David’s delicatessen ( just up the hill) whose name escapes me.

      • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 23, 2014 at 9:24 pm

Blondie’s was originally in Berkeley on Telegraph right near UC. Still is there.
When I was at Cal, cheese and pepperoni slices were $1. The workers even then looked like having a juvy rap sheet and multiple tats was a hiring requirement. We used to say “Blondies — pizza and an insult for a buck”…

      • WilcoJoe's avatar WilcoJoe said, on September 23, 2014 at 9:32 pm

Yep, the original is in Berkeley and I think there is or used to be one adjacent to the Rasputin’s in Concord near Sunvalley Mall. As a young teen, my parents wouldn’t let me venture alone to the Berkeley or SF location, so I had to make due with the one in the ‘burbs.

  14. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 23, 2014 at 9:18 pm

I’d give Pence a day off. Screw his consecutive game streak, he’s not going to get near Ripken in this life, so it’s meaningless IMO. He’s missing pitches by a foot…

It was Rooster, after the 1st Bumgarner settled in, Grienke cruising until Snots took him deep.
Just a good hard battle of 2 playoff teams!
Key to me was Donny 2 step starting Turner, and not because of those 2 jacks, which of course we’re killers, but I think he couldn’t stomach how lack of effort Gordon gave him last night.

      • Rooster's avatar Rooster said, on September 23, 2014 at 10:22 pm

I wouldn’t call it lack of effort – no doubt, Gordon had a bad game, but I’ve seen him make those plays more often then not – just a bad game – he’s been key to their success this season.

  45. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 23, 2014 at 10:02 pm

Morse likely out for the season now, too.
I don’t know why they couldn’t wait a few more days to have him take a game AB this week, not in Diego. That basically toasted his oblique the rest of the season, and maybe was his last AB as a Giant. Having Perez or Dominguez out there is just brutal. I’d put Ishi out there in LF, I don’t care if he’s lefty vs. lefty tomorrow night. Or yeah, Brown. Bochy hates the thought of Brown so much he’ll probably start his ass against Kershaw. It’s so bad I’m actually begging for Bochy to play Ishi. Unbelievable…

The funny thing is, if the Giants win the last game of the series, they can have a champagne party for making the playoffs, right at Dodger Stadium. Or if the Giants lose, and Milwaukee loses, the Giants can have the champagne party anyway, while the Dodgers are having their own champagne party. Only in baseball could something so ridiculous happen.
