A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Wild Card Bonanza!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 25, 2014

Well, that’s out of the way. Time to move on to the wild card.

The Giants have more pressing issues to sort out–like who is going get hits, drive in runs, etc. Because it damn sure hasn’t been Hunter Pence or Pablo Sandoval. And we can whine all we want about the pitching but without Pagan and Morse (and, essentially, Pence and Pablo) we can’t lay all the offensive expectations at the doorstep of Chris Dominguez.

So who’s going to step and drive in runs for this team?

You can’t win a baseball game with hope and magic.

There’s no way they should have a champagne party if they lose this game. They should postpone that until they win a game in this series.

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on September 25, 2014 at 9:58 pm

I even think it would be a bit weird if they had one after winning the game. Backing in and you pop the corks? Perhaps if it was short and sweet…

The bats absolutely need to pick-up the bullpen right now, especially if this team is going to create any mojo going into the playoffs. And the the bullpen needs to slam the damned door closed for the final two frames.

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on September 25, 2014 at 10:34 pm

I agree snarkk. With the guys they have right now, I think that is the best line-up.

No torture. I am still recovering from the opening game of the bumbino set.

  34. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on September 25, 2014 at 10:37 pm

I’ve been against the Belt-in-LF-Posey-at-1st for all-time (or whenever the idea was floated) but I’m for it now. Morse is a distant memory and the combo of Dominguez, Perez, and the ghost of Gary Brown ain’t doing it for me.

Posey has improved enough at 1st, and LF? Might as well be the barcalounger. Belt will be fine.

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on September 25, 2014 at 10:38 pm

That is why I prefaced it with “the guys they have right now.” If Morse was healthy, I still am not sure I would have him out there regularly. He might be mainly a RH bat off the bench…

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 25, 2014 at 10:38 pm

Yep, Belt will get to more balls than Barry did in hid elder years…

  35. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 25, 2014 at 10:38 pm

Next season I think it’s Casilla in the 8th inning, and Strickland closes.
Romo will have be having his shouting match in some other team’s locker room…

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on September 25, 2014 at 10:40 pm

I wouldn’t sign the closer role over to Strickland just yet. I think there is a good possibility…he will certainly get his chance in ST, and how he performs there will probably drive that decision.

      • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 25, 2014 at 10:42 pm

Agreed. He’ll have to earn it. He’s got the stuff, and looks like the command and the FU attitude needed. He should develop a split or a changeup just so he can show it. I don’t think Casilla has enough FU ‘tude, he’s got the other two…

  36. salty's avatar salty said, on September 25, 2014 at 10:39 pm

Think it will be Ishi in left against RHer’s.

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 25, 2014 at 10:40 pm

I think you’re right, but I think it should be Belt, and Ishi avail for PHing…

      • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on September 25, 2014 at 10:42 pm

I would have Belt there most of the time, but mix in a start for Ishi on occasion to keep him fresh in that position. He could also be a late inning defensive replacement at 1B in games in which they had a late lead.

  37. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 25, 2014 at 10:43 pm

Having Belt get hot would be huge boost from the left hitting side of the box. That might light up some of the other guys…

I have mixed feelings on the celebration, and commented about backing in earlier (not here). The flip-side is that the season is a grind, and I don’t think it hurts for them to blow off some steam, short-sweet celebration, and then focus back on tomorrow’s game. (And I would be very surprised if that is not the case.)

      • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on September 25, 2014 at 11:21 pm

Sure. Your preference is to win your division, but truly, it is all about getting in and seeing what happens. And with the grind and the injuries this team has fought through, it is satisfying knowing they have a chance to play for it all.
