A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Game 1, NLCS

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 11, 2014

I won’t bother you guys with analysis of this series since everyone here probably knows as much as I do. I would say the biggest difference between the Cards and the Nats is the playoff experience the Cards bring to the table. I doubt we will see any of their relievers piss themselves on the mound and throw an intentional walk pitch to the backstop. We aren’t going to see any hitter throw his helmet to the ground in protest of a strike he failed to swing at. And I don’t see Matheny getting kicked out of any games.

I’m just stoked beyond belief for whatever comes our way. I don’t take a single trip to the baseball playoffs lightly. I honor and respect what these men have done to put us in a position to enjoy the drama and the excitement they have given us and will continue to give us while Dodger fans get nothing and like it.

So do whatever it is you do to get through the day and I’ll catch you guys on the flip side at 5pm….

Is there a more nerve-wracking play then when the firstbaseman makes that throw to second to try to start a doubleplay? Nice to have a lefty playing first when that play happens.

    • WilcoJoe said, on October 11, 2014 at 7:22 pm

It’s right up there with when your pitcher throws to try and get an out at third. Not that our pitchers have ever problems with that. 😉

        Good point!!

They keep mentioning that Gonzalas went to Gonzaga and I remember some March madness from that small school.

Seems like the Gmen have been knocking at the door all game, but scoring has been excruciatingly hard…

Pence right now is a sucker for the outside slider…

Belt needs to swing and try to crush one…

I don’t think Matheny is checking those stats.

Jesus. Opportunities are coming and going as fast as Loo’s one-liners . . .

    • zumiee said, on October 11, 2014 at 7:45 pm

Not many extra-base hits. The rallies are having to rely on singles.

Nothing better then taking the Cards fans out the game.
The “Undertaker” like in Pittsburgh digs more coffins and buries more opponents in the postseason!!

Not sure I would want to order just one plate of garlic fries to share with Matt Adams…

  11. zumiee said, on October 11, 2014 at 7:51 pm

Frustrating how the broadcasters called that. The Giants have the wrong approach to pitching Jay.

There is NOTHING wrong with that tag by Bum…

  13. willedav said, on October 11, 2014 at 7:54 pm

Nice play there, Bum wouldn’t let him get to the base.

  14. ODDB said, on October 11, 2014 at 7:54 pm

That Reynolds is a dopey sack of shit.

  15. DJLoo said, on October 11, 2014 at 7:55 pm

Matheny’s got no argument here. He was out before anything questionable happened…

  16. zumiee said, on October 11, 2014 at 7:55 pm

Both of Bum’s feet were inside the baseline. How can it be interference?

    • zumiee said, on October 11, 2014 at 7:56 pm

I mean, not in that runner’s chalked lane to first base.

  17. twinfan1 said, on October 11, 2014 at 7:56 pm

Ishi , nice pick up, He’s my man but even I expected nothing more than some defense until Belt got back. And he’s been smooth in LF.
Nice play by the outside linebacker,,

  23. zumiee said, on October 11, 2014 at 8:03 pm

Balks must not be reviewable on replay. How did all the umps miss that?

  24. snarkk said, on October 11, 2014 at 8:05 pm

F the balk. Balk calls are idiotic. A balk is supposed to be called when there is an attempt to deceive. I didn’t see anything like that there…

    • zumiee said, on October 11, 2014 at 8:09 pm

You’re right, but balks do get called sometimes for things like what he did.

  25. stickman said, on October 11, 2014 at 8:06 pm

When a pitcher is as good as MadBum sometimes he gets a bit of extra advantage. Recalling a Giants-Braves game back in the 90’s with Greg Maddux on the mound for Atlanta. Ump would consistently give him 3-4 inches on the outside of the plate ~ big margin. Not so for the Giants pitcher at even two inches off. The Undertaker did one helluva 7 innings and now is at 104 pitches on the evening. Even with the shutout going 9 looks quite dubious. Eight? Not so sure. Probably not ~ unless Big Country makes one mighty fuss about it.

  26. snarkk said, on October 11, 2014 at 8:06 pm

Giants must have some St. Looey chicks line up post-game. They went through those ABs like they’re late, and being charged by the hour…

And Casilla wipes them off the map for tonight!

  52. gianthead said, on October 11, 2014 at 8:41 pm

Frankly I thought we would lose to the Pirates but was pretty confident we would beat the Nats, but that series was still nerve wrecking nearly every inning.

Not for a single second did I think we were going to lose tonight. Pretty confident we are headed to a third championship…The AL has no pitching with the “intestinal fortitude” of our staff…now it is just the f’n Orioles blowing my 20-1 bet to meet the Giants…

  54. snarkk said, on October 11, 2014 at 8:47 pm

This team just wins. How they’re doing it without Pagan, with Blanco an automatic out essentially, is amazing to me…

    • gianthead said, on October 11, 2014 at 8:52 pm

Said the same to my son Snarkk…just amazing

    • twinfan1 said, on October 11, 2014 at 9:24 pm

Blanco has a bad postseason at the plate so far but he was key in the second half and is always a superb defender-that counts for something. We’re lucky to have him.

  55. willedav said, on October 11, 2014 at 8:47 pm

According to tweet from Henry, Bum was still throwing 93 on pitch #106.
Pablo with 3 hits, Belt 1-3 with sac fly.
Cards Grichuk Holliday Peralta Adams 0-15, Molina (what’s up with the neck tat?) 1 bloop hit in 4 trips. Does like to swing at first pitch as I’m sure scouting report notices.

  56. snarkk said, on October 11, 2014 at 8:48 pm

Casilla looked damn good. Should give him some confidence for going forward…

    • dirtnrocksnomo said, on October 11, 2014 at 9:27 pm

Totally agree, snarkk. Good to see Casilla rounding into form.

  57. stickman said, on October 11, 2014 at 8:49 pm

Beginning to appear that the Giants may have arrived at the post-season with a very unusual offensive game plan. Take pitches. See a lot of pitches. Dink those singles. Draw walks. Go the other way. Keep the line moving. Except for the Pittsburgh blowout the SF offense has been the death of a thousand cuts with Wainwright being the most recent victim. In the process of all that the Giants got a look at a good chunk of the Cardl’s bullpen while St. Louis got the briefest of peek-a-boos from Romo and about as much of Casilla as they will want to see.

When the Road Warriors win Game one in a post-season series, whether five or a full 7 games, it immediately puts a hurt on the home team. We saw that with the Nats. They were a bit desperate in game two and fell victim to a beautiful longman stint from Use More O Petit. Down two after the 18 inning marathon they amazingly got it together vs Bumgarner in game three but must have used up most of their moxie in that one as they were dead meat vs gameface Vogelsong.

So the Redturds will be a bit desperate tomorrow, particularly their starter Lance Lynn who has pitched well for them but has been devastated by the Giants. Will the offense continue in the death of a thousand cuts mode or will they go for broke in game two?

Cards were shuffled on 4 singles tonight. They face yet another gamer tomorrow.

    • Nipper said, on October 11, 2014 at 8:51 pm

      Gamer!

  58. gianthead said, on October 11, 2014 at 8:51 pm

Speaking of paydays..you Panda naysayers on board yet that he is a must re-sign?? I think the Undertaker knows he is going to get taken care of…Once Timmy and Scutaro and Hudson comes off the books after next season, we have over $30 mill to take care of the Bum…

    • WilcoJoe said, on October 11, 2014 at 9:02 pm

As much as I love hearing Dodger fans pout, there is no question that Giants fans dislike Dodger fans much more than the the vice versa. I chalk that up to Giants fans having more passion and regard for the history of the rivalry.

      • snarkk said, on October 11, 2014 at 9:05 pm

Tons of Doghair fans more concerned about traffic and getting out of the parking lot than worrying about the Giants…

      • zumiee said, on October 11, 2014 at 9:09 pm

I agree with that, and I also think some of it is Tommy Lasorda’s legacy and his era as manager. His attitude, and the Dodger fans’ attitude, toward the Giants and the rivalry was to treat it with a kind of smarmy disregard. True, the Giants weren’t good a lot of the Lasorda years, but the dismissing of the Giants didn’t go down well with us older Giants fans.

  60. snarkk said, on October 11, 2014 at 9:06 pm

    • WilcoJoe said, on October 11, 2014 at 9:22 pm

No doubt we will overpay, cause that’s what we do for our our own. We will all bitch about it next year as he and the Giants struggle to a third place finish. Then we will win our fourth World Series in seven years in 2016 and all will be right with the Panda once again.

I had to turn off the TV and follow the bouncing dots. But that’s okay, as my son snored his way through sleep and a cold. He’s 33 and I felt like a father of a sick three-year-old. I’ve come to a simple and obvious conclusion: to succeed in the postseason your team, especially your pitching, just has to be good enough to get to the postseason. You don’t have to have the best ERA or best anything. Just get to the postseason. THEN. THEN. Be the best. Especially pitching. Right? Save it for when it counts most. Right?

    • paulinasia said, on October 12, 2014 at 9:08 am
