A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Game 1, NLCS

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 11, 2014

I won’t bother you guys with analysis of this series since everyone here probably knows as much as I do. I would say the biggest difference between the Cards and the Nats is the playoff experience the Cards bring to the table. I doubt we will see any of their relievers piss themselves on the mound and throw an intentional walk pitch to the backstop. We aren’t going to see any hitter throw his helmet to the ground in protest of a strike he failed to swing at. And I don’t see Matheny getting kicked out of any games.

I’m just stoked beyond belief for whatever comes our way. I don’t take a single trip to the baseball playoffs lightly. I honor and respect what these men have done to put us in a position to enjoy the drama and the excitement they have given us and will continue to give us while Dodger fans get nothing and like it.

So do whatever it is you do to get through the day and I’ll catch you guys on the flip side at 5pm….

A few questions for the NLCS:

Does Stricknine have any leash left? How much?

Does Morse take over in left? If so, when?

Will MadBum thow at Holiday? Will it hit him ? Will the benches clear?

What Giant will hit the 1st HR? ( “nobody” is not an acceptable answer)

Who will be the series MVP?

Which bench player will have the most impact?

What’s the most pitchers that Bochy will use in a game? In an inning?

Will we win? If so, in how many games

Please-feel free to add your own questions and savage mine.

      1) lots of leash left. He’s a beast breathing fire out of the bullpen. I love him
      2) no. I like him off the bench. He breaks up the *Duffy/Perez” pinch hitting impotence.
      3) no, I think the price is too steep to go after that dude for what he did to Scoots. Plus, the image of a silent Matheny drenched in his jacket sadly standing on the dugout steps at the end of Game 7 was enough revenge for me.
      4) Crawford
      5) Crawford
      6) theirs
      7) 6. 3.
      8) I’ll say yes just for the hell of it. 6 games.
      9) I’ll think up some later. Nice list, twin.

“What’s luck got to do with it, got to do with it”? That could have been the carry line in Tom Verducci’s Sports Illustrated piece on the Giants. He compares them with the, get this, 96-99 and even the ’27 Yankees. Something about winning the close ones and their margin in unearned runs, suchlike stuff. Good read. You can find it on Yahoo Sports.

I’ve sworn off disappointment at Blanco. But, with all RH starters on the Cards, maybe he can get a few hits, and get some walks. If he could get an OBP somewhere over .300 for the series, that would be very large…

  15. zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on October 11, 2014 at 1:40 pm

The Royals are playing loosey-goosey, and there is something to be said for that. Few expected them to get this far this season, and the pressure is on the Orioles, especially after the Royals won Game 1.
The Giants should be fairly loose tonight; most of the media picked the Cards in this series. Play ball, have fun, and see where the chips fall. Hopefully the Giants’ resurgence in pitching continues.

Like the Dodgers with their fucking bubble show, it’s all in response to the reverend. Amazing how many recent trends in baseball (beards, dugout parties, fucking Pence signs, etc) all started with the Giants.

I’ve been not thrilled about the playoff matchups, til tonight. I think we cruise. Crush. Whatever. Wainwright is going down hard. Like the Pittsburgh game. Hit ’em hard and leave ’em in the dust.

Belt with the 1st homer. In the 1st inning. Boo yaaaaah!

Bellt being the MVP as well. Morse stays on the bench. Bochy is not going to sacrifice defense at this point. It is too much the premium. The only bad defensive game we played, we lost.

Giants in 5. I really think 6, but I’m going full optimistic.

Morse off the bench has a couple doubles and 5 ribibies.

Strickland has the mindset of a cornerback. he’s the main man. DIG IT!!!!

I like watching a defensive whiz at SS but I also wonder which team this century who won a World Championship could claim to have such a thing at SS?
    Cardinals – nope
    Red Sox – Nope
    Yankees – nope
Angels – no no no no
    Diamondbacks – no
White Sox – URibe – probably not at SS
    Marlins – maybe Alex Gonzalez

Which leaves the Giants and fucking Brandon Crawford

Game time in minutes. Getting stoked after wood cutting, wheelbarrowing, soil transferring, picking and toting ~ all to get in shape for a Giants victory. Well, thinking about it a bit, anyway. Homesteading makes for great workouts. Hoping Giants hitters give Wainwright and the Redburd staff a good working over.

Stix If it was possible to measure, I bet you and me live exact opposite daily lives (besides watching the game as fellow Giants fans). I wish you lived closer, I’d love to come over for a meal. They always sound delicious

      • stickman's avatar stickman said, on October 11, 2014 at 6:00 pm

Yeah, it’s a pretty long drive. Hit the big 7 Zero three weeks ago so exercise and nutrition are very high on my list. Tonight’s supper will be homestead-style mac-cheese. No running water or working drain in the old shack so i came up with a different method. Cover the plate with chunks of cheese and a couple globs of butter. On the side i dice up a tomato, sometimes a small cuke, usually olives go into that blend. Elbow macs get cooked to tender and they slam atop the cheese and butter. Then comes garlic powder, paprika, tamari, balsamico and a dash of sesame oil. Then the veggie mix goes over the top. Sometimes the whole mess gets secondary topping of raunch dressing. Tasty.

When garden stuff is in season i often eat like a king. During our cold, dark, long winter it requires a lot more thought to come up with something good. Now thing about Cali is that you have fresh stuff pretty much the year round., Got any farmers’ markets in your neighborhood or do you need to settle for the supermarket stuff?

Carpenter vs. Blanco in the leadoff spot = mismatch…

    • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on October 11, 2014 at 5:23 pm

Yeah, you get the feeling Carpenter’s going to be a constant pain in the neck in this series. The Giants need to limit him to singles, and keep the big boppers inside the park, just like they did this inning.

  24. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on October 11, 2014 at 5:23 pm

Had Wainwright not been a decent fielding pitcher Panik’s slap up the middle likely would have plated a pair. Main points are we drew first blood and the pitch count on the Redburd’s ace is 51 through two. Though i have only the Yahoo feed my take is that W. is having a bit of a control problem and the Giants are getting a decent look at his stuff. They keep that up another couple innings and that count should be somewhere in the stratosphere ~ maybe even the ionosphere.

    • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on October 11, 2014 at 5:54 pm
