Game 1, NLCS
I won’t bother you guys with analysis of this series since everyone here probably knows as much as I do. I would say the biggest difference between the Cards and the Nats is the playoff experience the Cards bring to the table. I doubt we will see any of their relievers piss themselves on the mound and throw an intentional walk pitch to the backstop. We aren’t going to see any hitter throw his helmet to the ground in protest of a strike he failed to swing at. And I don’t see Matheny getting kicked out of any games.
I’m just stoked beyond belief for whatever comes our way. I don’t take a single trip to the baseball playoffs lightly. I honor and respect what these men have done to put us in a position to enjoy the drama and the excitement they have given us and will continue to give us while Dodger fans get nothing and like it.
So do whatever it is you do to get through the day and I’ll catch you guys on the flip side at 5pm….

Here’s a funny pic making the rounds on Facebook

Ishi gets the start, Morse off the bench. For now….
http://m.giants.mlb.com/news/article/98227990/michael-morse-returns-to-giants-roster-for-national-league-championship-serieshe bench.
this is hilarious
A few questions for the NLCS:
Does Stricknine have any leash left? How much?
Does Morse take over in left? If so, when?
Will MadBum thow at Holiday? Will it hit him ? Will the benches clear?
What Giant will hit the 1st HR? ( “nobody” is not an acceptable answer)
Who will be the series MVP?
Which bench player will have the most impact?
What’s the most pitchers that Bochy will use in a game? In an inning?
Will we win? If so, in how many games
Please-feel free to add your own questions and savage mine.
1) lots of leash left. He’s a beast breathing fire out of the bullpen. I love him
2) no. I like him off the bench. He breaks up the *Duffy/Perez” pinch hitting impotence.
3) no, I think the price is too steep to go after that dude for what he did to Scoots. Plus, the image of a silent Matheny drenched in his jacket sadly standing on the dugout steps at the end of Game 7 was enough revenge for me.
4) Crawford
5) Crawford
6) theirs
7) 6. 3.
8) I’ll say yes just for the hell of it. 6 games.
9) I’ll think up some later. Nice list, twin.
I’ll go Belt for 4 and 5. Because I like the kid, and all the RHPs…
I’m going with El Tiburón Blanco for #4 but otherwise what he said.
“What’s luck got to do with it, got to do with it”? That could have been the carry line in Tom Verducci’s Sports Illustrated piece on the Giants. He compares them with the, get this, 96-99 and even the ’27 Yankees. Something about winning the close ones and their margin in unearned runs, suchlike stuff. Good read. You can find it on Yahoo Sports.
Funny photo (van), I’ve used it three times already today.
Thanks Flav.
Go Giants.
Haha, Flav. Nice pic. My cousin posted that one too. I’ve been resisting the urge to troll my friends down south with it but now that it’s gone mainstream…
I wouldn’t give a nickel for that wagon….
Come on man. It’s ecofriendly. It runs on Puig’s tears of disappointment.
Gold
Shoot, I thought it just burned cash…
no navi or gps though…
So what is the deal with Wainwright anyway? He says it’s not ligament but is something with his elbow? Sounds like maybe loose chips settled in a bad spot? Hmmmmmm.
Hey Nippy, looks like a second van for you can be had for a song. An upgrade?…
I’m sure Bunnmie is starting today but I’d love to see Bochy put Peavy out there. I think we are going to shell Wainwright., I’d save Bummie for tomorrow.
That’s my $0.02 for the day.
Morse bombs away off the bench.
We don’t shell anyone, Chuck. But I love your attitude!
I’ve sworn off disappointment at Blanco. But, with all RH starters on the Cards, maybe he can get a few hits, and get some walks. If he could get an OBP somewhere over .300 for the series, that would be very large…
No idea if the club will beat the Cards. But. I’d like the chance at beating one of these AL teams. I’m not super impressed with either…
Well, KC kicked the shot out of us in inter league play so I’m leery of playing the AL this year
Shit not shot
Cal playing UDub this afternoon at Strawberry Canyon.
Bears are playing a brand of ball that is just crazy, and fun to watch, until it’s not.
Just outscore the opposition, period. Defense is just a waterbreak in between throws.
If they hadn’t coughed up that final play Hail Mary furball in Arizona, they’d be 5-0 right now…
Sorry, but I can’t take a team seriously when they give up 60 Pts a game or whatever it is
The Royals are jumping on the Orioles quickly. I’m getting kind of tired of the Royals already. They seem a little full of themselves.
The Royals are playing loosey-goosey, and there is something to be said for that. Few expected them to get this far this season, and the pressure is on the Orioles, especially after the Royals won Game 1.
The Giants should be fairly loose tonight; most of the media picked the Cards in this series. Play ball, have fun, and see where the chips fall. Hopefully the Giants’ resurgence in pitching continues.
My beef with KC is that they seem overly aware of where the cameras are, and have done more mugging for the cameras than I like to see.
Blanco CF
Panik 2B
Posey C
Sandoval 3B
Pence RF
Belt 1B
Crawford SS
Ishikawa LF
Bumgarner LHP
Go Giants!
I’m going with the Ishy fish to go yard.
I certainly noticed that Zumie, and I haven’t watched that much.
Like the Dodgers with their fucking bubble show, it’s all in response to the reverend. Amazing how many recent trends in baseball (beards, dugout parties, fucking Pence signs, etc) all started with the Giants.
I’ve been not thrilled about the playoff matchups, til tonight. I think we cruise. Crush. Whatever. Wainwright is going down hard. Like the Pittsburgh game. Hit ’em hard and leave ’em in the dust.
Spent the whole day rewiring shit and patching holes. All to divert my attention. GAME ON, GODDAMN IT!!!
On yourself?
Yup. Me and Paul McCartney. “Fixing a Hole’ refers to the hole in his head that killed him in a car acciodent..
Ha! Yeah, the “Paul is dead” rumors. Somehow Paul continued to write and record songs after he died. There was a big flaw in the logic of the rumor.
Belt with the 1st homer. In the 1st inning. Boo yaaaaah!
Bellt being the MVP as well. Morse stays on the bench. Bochy is not going to sacrifice defense at this point. It is too much the premium. The only bad defensive game we played, we lost.
Giants in 5. I really think 6, but I’m going full optimistic.
Morse off the bench has a couple doubles and 5 ribibies.
Strickland has the mindset of a cornerback. he’s the main man. DIG IT!!!!
I’m taking this as an omen…in the 8th race at Fresno today…
5 City by the Bay Hernandez J J $11.20 $6.40 $5.60
2 Hidethegoodstuff Amador S R – $20.40 $10.80
10 Macha Mawing L – – $8.60
I like the fact that you’re hitting the Fresno card. That’s some serious commitment to gambling.
From the True Blue L.A. blog the other day:
I like watching a defensive whiz at SS but I also wonder which team this century who won a World Championship could claim to have such a thing at SS?
Cardinals – nope
Red Sox – Nope
Yankees – nope
Angels – no no no no
Diamondbacks – no
White Sox – URibe – probably not at SS
Marlins – maybe Alex Gonzalez
Which leaves the Giants and fucking Brandon Crawford

Game time in minutes. Getting stoked after wood cutting, wheelbarrowing, soil transferring, picking and toting ~ all to get in shape for a Giants victory. Well, thinking about it a bit, anyway. Homesteading makes for great workouts. Hoping Giants hitters give Wainwright and the Redburd staff a good working over.
Stix If it was possible to measure, I bet you and me live exact opposite daily lives (besides watching the game as fellow Giants fans). I wish you lived closer, I’d love to come over for a meal. They always sound delicious
Yeah, it’s a pretty long drive. Hit the big 7 Zero three weeks ago so exercise and nutrition are very high on my list. Tonight’s supper will be homestead-style mac-cheese. No running water or working drain in the old shack so i came up with a different method. Cover the plate with chunks of cheese and a couple globs of butter. On the side i dice up a tomato, sometimes a small cuke, usually olives go into that blend. Elbow macs get cooked to tender and they slam atop the cheese and butter. Then comes garlic powder, paprika, tamari, balsamico and a dash of sesame oil. Then the veggie mix goes over the top. Sometimes the whole mess gets secondary topping of raunch dressing. Tasty.
When garden stuff is in season i often eat like a king. During our cold, dark, long winter it requires a lot more thought to come up with something good. Now thing about Cali is that you have fresh stuff pretty much the year round., Got any farmers’ markets in your neighborhood or do you need to settle for the supermarket stuff?
Carpenter vs. Blanco in the leadoff spot = mismatch…
Yeah, you get the feeling Carpenter’s going to be a constant pain in the neck in this series. The Giants need to limit him to singles, and keep the big boppers inside the park, just like they did this inning.
Well, Bum was catching a lot of the plate that inning. Gotta tighten that up…
Blanco can sure go get it out there. Usually takes great routes to the ball.
Has Bum been 91/92 with his fastball this season? I don’t remember. He’s lost a little on his fastball over the years. He was at 94/95 in the ’10 World Series. He’s got more variety of pitches now, of course.
He’s been pitching a lot the last 6 weeks, deep into games…
Definitely a catch…
Holy shit! What a break!
Pablo with the golf shot double. Boy, I thought that was a catch…
Come on guys, make this guy throw a lot of pitches…
Belt Bloop! Panda had no chance to score on that, played it right…
Freak-Ish!
Ishi!…
Man, we do not get our runs with manly hits, do we?
Cards giving us some goodies!…
This Adams dude must use Panda’s trainer and dietician…
Had Wainwright not been a decent fielding pitcher Panik’s slap up the middle likely would have plated a pair. Main points are we drew first blood and the pitch count on the Redburd’s ace is 51 through two. Though i have only the Yahoo feed my take is that W. is having a bit of a control problem and the Giants are getting a decent look at his stuff. They keep that up another couple innings and that count should be somewhere in the stratosphere ~ maybe even the ionosphere.
His stuff is good tonight, though. Those two backfoot sliders he threw to Crawford were electric.
Bum’s fastball a notch higher this inning. 93/94. Looks like he may be getting into his groove.
Doesn’t his velocity tend to increase as the game progresses?
Sounds right. The first inning has been his most challenging inning, historically.
I’d try to just layoff that big curve from Wainwright. He’s not having super command of it. If it rolls in for a strike, so be it. Otherwise, work the count…
He’s very erratic tonight. Good stuff but shitty command.
Rally time!
Been some great football games again this Saturday. My Horns played OU tough but made too many mental mistakes. Congrats to Chi and his Sooners, but Charlie Strong certianly has them going in the right direction.
Nice sac fly by Belt! This kid is turning into a real pro…
Nice job, BB9…
Good Job Belt
nice comment. I approved this one from spam.
and by the way, I’ll give you a hint: how you spell your handle does not impact you going to spam. 37 other flags on you do, but not how you spell your handle. So just keep going with ODB. Be who you are man, it’s more becoming….
Hook ’em home Brandon Belt!
Peavy is pretty comfortable on the air. He will make a nice career as a broadcaster, if he chooses to go that route.
Pissed I can’t find the game on Ho Chi Minh TV . . . Paul, if you found it, give me a shout.
Try Commiecast…
see, that’s why you are the goldest of the gold. Who comes up with this shit? Loo and that’s the end of the list.
Gold!
Commiecast only has Badminton World Federation matches and Wide Wide World Of Table Tennis.
Loo with his patented rapid, rapier wit.
Good luck Blade. I’m having troubles with the game crapping out on me here. Maybe it’s the storm going through but it’s only the Fox station. The really bad thing is it’s mainly the video feed, Joe Buck is coming through loud and clear.
Just have to follow the Gamecast dots today John. 😦
Dude, I’m gold compared to that. I ended up getting a Fox secondary channel that shows the game on a small screen while 5 Fox guys sit around yammering. If they did this where it was 5 drunk fans cussing and talking shit, it would be an awesome format. Safe travels to you Steve.
Well, we’re not crushing Wainwritght, but we are getting a shitload of pitches out of him.
Alex Pavlovic @AlexPavlovic 1m1 minute ago
Bumgarner has thrown 22 straight scoreless postseason innings on the road, the longest such streak since 1924.
70 at the top of the 4th.
Ishi power! 0-2 no less.
Bummie go deep!
I notice Bum lets a lot of fat first pitches go by for strike one…
That sort of annoyed me tonight. Especially on the bases-loaded AB.
Those Dart ads border on the surreal. How to kill your neighbor in 3 easy steps.
I find them to be hilarious
Time for Panik to get an RBI here…
At a hotel in Stamford. All of my three children here for mom’s 98th. They are in another room, laughing away. I am here blogging and watching. Go, Giants. Love this HOF respect for Bochy. #grateful
happy birthday to your mom, Pawlie. She raised a good son.
aw, thanks
Why isn’t your Mom watching the damn game!?
😉
hahaha she might be…..but likely asleep; some taxing visits for her. Besides, she has sons who are Cards and Giants fans but we know who is the fave…..
Did they have to pronounce the words “Dan Uggla”? Perhaps one of Sabean’s top moves of the season was to abort that venture . . . not quite soon enough, though. I can’t think of one thing Uggla did right. Did he even hit a foul?
blade, sent you an email re: seeing the game
Thoroughly and totally impressed by Peavy as a person, his respect, demeanor, intelligence, guts, passion. What a catch in getting him.
Sabes will need to get the checkbook out this winter…
Thanks snarkk for the email link, but I am on my tablet and the bandwith sucks. More important, Android does not support Adobe Flash Player, which you need.
OK, we’ll take you through the game…
Yeah, will have to rely on the blog and Gamecast dots.
Bum’s getting annoyed at the HP ump…
Wow, Morse wouldn’t have gotten that one
first thing I thought too
Ishi with the good play in LF!
Chances are Morse F’s that one up…
I never thought I would be saying “thank God Ishi is playing LF” in an LCS game.
He looks good out there WJ? Anticipating/tracking the flight of the ball smoothly?
Wainwright looked gassed on Ball 4 to Panda…
Pence needs to get it together. Swinging again at a lot of outside low slider crap…
Last yr he will play all 162 after his dreadful Sept
Dinger Time, let’s go Belt…
atta eye, Belt
It’s flapaloosa 2019 and edd says, “remember the Ishikawa game in St. Lou?” 2 singles and a diving catch got the gmen going.
We need more runs. Giants had Wainright struggling all night, only got 3….
is this pitcher Marco Scutaro’s son?
Sounds like Wainwright got chased. Good deal.
a barry bonds shout out by the fox announcers
Craw smoked that grounder, just at that fat dude Adams…
edd, sent you an email…
Belt is so solid with D at 1B like that…
