The Rest of the Rotation
It was nice to see The Mad Snot calm the waters with an efficient W but now the fun really begins. Just as I still can’t understand how we won a freaking World Series with ONE competent starting pitcher, I’m not understanding who’s going to pitch for us on the days Bum sits. This “forearm tightness” thing that Cain is going through smells an awful lot like a UCL tear and if that’s the case we’re looking at best at a rotation with question marks. At worst, a rotation in shambles.
If the Giants call up one of the kids to pitch on Wednesday what does that say about their Tim Lincecum feelings? He’s getting paid almost 20 million this year, the Giants usually let those high priced players play until they’re forced to publicly *Rowand* them.
We’ll see, but I’m in full blown skeptic mode right now and there’s 161 of these bad boys to go.
Pray
Opening Day as season metaphor? “Just a little bit better than the Dbags…”
just a flexor strain
we’ll see. I don’t believe shit that comes out of the Giants medicos. This is an unfinished chapter, as far as I’m concerned.
I get it, but I prefer this over them coming out and saying he has a tear and is done for the season.
They can amputate, and it will never bother him again.
What an entertaining (although a bit more tense than I wanted) game. And the NCAA final was awesome, too. When I would cycle over to the BB game during Giant commercial breaks, it was tough at times to cycle back to the Giant’s game. I sure as hell wanted the Badgers…I fucking cannot stand Duke. Anyway, very good evening of sports.
So, Peavy’s “dead-arm” is really a sore back? At least there was somewhat good news on Cain in that there is no ligament damage in the elbow (per the MRI results). But looks like he is heading to the DL to let what is being called a strain heal.

Top of the order kicked some serious ass last night. Loved seeing El Caballo Loco out there making his sliding catches, and saluting from 2nd twice. Panik and Aoki with very good nights. Let’s keep the sticks hot, and pray that the pitching can come together.
Vogey with the start tonight. Hoping that Nicole cooked him a big dish of some kick-ass enchiladas, and got him serviced and ready to go.
Humm Baby!
Guess you didnt get the memo. π He’s ditched the enchilades. Now it’s super duper burgers.
Missed that one, 54. All good…as long as the boy is getting fed, and Nicole is getting him ready to go, it is all good. And who doesn’t love a great burger….
Rotation will sort itself out, with maybe more depth than quality.
Pen too, and Mr. Machi better realize someone goes down when Pence returns. I’m not a Kontos fan, but…
Loved Pawlie’s 8:52 last night re: meaninglessness of ST stats, now. Top of LU was raking, and Casilla closed things out peacefully except for one hanger Golds missed and fouled straight back.
Gotta hope this is the Pagan that’s ready for 150 games.
Pagan (switch-hitter) has good numbers from both sides of the plate. Last season he had a .350 wOBA against right-handed pitching, although he is known for his ability to hit left-handed pitching well. Posey also will do good against this chump . . . Last season he finished with a .366 wOBA against righties. De La Rosa is no world beater and Posey gets the added benefit of a hitter-friendly ballpark. I expect the Giants hitting to compensate for Voggie pitching tonight . . . I hope.
On the other hand, consider whom the Dbags get to face.
I wouldn’t play Voggy in AZ with your $. I’ve got a few hitters from both teams going today—longshots are Lamb and Perralta who I think bang Voggy around pretty good.
I’ve got Pagan and Posey from the Gmen in FD and DK LUs . . . Would like Goldie (who wouldn’t?), but Lind is a cheaper option, especially, if you want Greinke, Wood, and/or Arrieta in your starting LUs (which I have some form of in all my LUs today).
Great result last night, though never seeing Machi again probably wouldn’t distress me too much. For now, lets’s hope he sorts things out. Cain looked pretty chipper at the game, so I’m going with the latest rhetoric, that he’ll be okay in short order. ESPN is reporting that the MRI revealed no ligament damage, so maybe he’ll only be out two weeks
Pagan, Panik and Aoki looked great, McGehee got his first 2 hits as a G-Man and Crawdaddy came up with a huge 2 out, 2-run double. Bum pitched well and launched his first snot rocket of the year before the first inning was over. All is well in the land of the Giants.
Machi can, and has been, hit and miss at times. But the dude has gone throught stints where he has been money, too. Let’s hope he finds that groove, again. Last year he appeared in over 60 games and had a sub-1 WHIP and an ERA in the low 2’s. Dude can pitch…let’s just see it again.
“One run better…”
Um, even clueless as you are, you do realize that’s all you need? 90 more just like that, I’ll take.
I honestly don’t care whether Sandoval goes 0-5 or 5-5. Imo the last thing needed is more about Red Sox.
Worst possible scenario for Fightin Phils. Only way to improve on what they have is to get a decent package for Hamels, and he gets rocked first time out in his own yard. Frenchy made their 25, nuff said.
And bring me the head of: whomever had the bright idea to send Amy out on the road. Hope the mute button on the remote doesn’t wear out.
I agree…that ship (Pablo) has sailed…I do not give a rat’s ass what he does. Fuck him.
Vogey will pitch fine tonight. Looks like we have a brand new troll on board here at the Flap.
“On the other hand, consider whom the Dbags get to face.”
Umm, not as bad as the asshole you get to look at each morning when you’re shaving.
The reality is that, with one exception, Sabean has assembled an ageing, declining and injury-prone rotation.
They have played 1 game. There are 161 more to play. Lots of time for things to shake out. Calm the fuck down and enjoy the games.
Hey Boo Boo or whatever the fuck your name is…Shut the fuck up and meet the triplets.
Now chi, he is just a mixed up Johnnie LeMaster fan (the Jersey read BOO 10 but he sees it as 10Boo). I think he became a huge fan of LeMaster’s when he finished his career with the A’s. I guess 10Boo thought those two hits by Johnnie were the greatest two hits ever.
That was then. This is now.
I don’t know that at this pΓ³int there’s much difference between Cain and Vsong. At least for 5 innings.
We hope for a return of pre-2013 Cain, but like with Lincecum, innings may have taken their toll.
Career .500 pitchers are utterly replaceable.
Dominant playoff pitchers are not easily replaceable, which is what Cain is. Go peruse box scores from his run in the 2010 & 2012 playoffs for evidence.
In a small sample size, anything can happen.
Great game last night. Good to see Aoki and Panik getting it done.
and Pagan. He came back like a beast.
Yea, I never worry about Pagan performing when he’s healthy. He should tone down all the needless slides and tumbles. Save his body a bit of wear.
Sorting out season. Pretty much every team goes through this with the opening weeks. Giants weathered quite a few storms last year and it turned out okay. Likely there will be an improvement at the 3rd base coaching box and also unlikely that our cleanup and #5 hitters will fail to come through on a regular basis with runners in scoring position and one out. Chances are once Romo leaves the desert his pitches will be more attuned to his usual performance. Machi/Kontos: Who knows? Strickland looms in the wings and so does Okert ~ even Guttierez. If a starter goes down, Chris Heston looked very good in ST.
Point is, the Giants won last night and the season starts off like it should. The shakedown cruise is on and its not long before Popeye Pence returns. Wake me up around the middle of May if things are looking as dire as some seem to think.
Great synopsis, Stix. I could not agree more.
for me, the difference between this year and 2010/2012/2014 is that those teams had significantly better starting pitching staffs than the one that’s starting out this year. Now, the arms all got raggedy by the end of last year (except for one exceptional arm) but if you’re just looking at the staffs of the 4 teams (all 3 world series teams plus the staff to start out this season) I think this one is by far and away the worst of the 4……..
True. But it is early. And every one of those teams had its issues, yet we know the results. I am not going to get wound around the axle about ANYTHING this early in the season.
So, something we can agree on.
SIX – the number of days left before the home opener. I am jacked-up big time in anticipation. Any other Flappers representing at the yard that day? We will be in the Arcade (145 I believe). If you are going to be there, let’s meet up and knock back a cold one…
To get this out of the way- I love Panda and I’ll follow him and root for him
OK- the rotation- presuming that Matt is out for awhile, my rotation, in order, is MadBum, Hudson, Peavy, Timmy, Vogey.
As I’ve posted before, people are going to love Aoki and the offense is instantly better with Aoki in the one and Pagan where he can drive in runs, Yeah, I know it’s only one game but that was the 2012 Pagan we saw last night. Vogey- Since I’ve discounted him about a dozen times, I think I should do it again. He seems determined to prove me wrong. Hey, any way I can help π
laughing while I say: thank you for your help.e
Vogs had a good spring probably the best of all the starters, not worried , other then Goldy& Trumbo these team sucks.
When your suppose Ace is 31-27 over 4-5 years or whatever and pitches like a junkyard dog and gives up 10 hits in less then 5 innings, nothing impresses me with that team.
It was very good to see Pagan bouncing around last night, making plays and doing the salute. It was also good to see the top of the order getting down to business, if they can keep that conga line moving, they’ll score runs. But favorite thing of the evening was watching how smooth Craw and Panik are playing together. If they keep getting better, wow. The defense all around should be pretty decent this year but that infield is going to be solid and really fun to watch.
Pagan made an excellent catch last night, one that required him to sprint then go down to make the grab. To me that’s a good sign that his back is fine. For now.
Agree Lurker, he made that catch and then bounced right back up. That was a very good sign.
Pagan – I thought how nice it must feel to be batting with someone on base and belt-posey-pence behind you and then he smacked a double. I missed the salute and it is nice to have it back. It’s OK to say back, right?
Romo – I guess it wasn’t going to be all unicorns and rainbows on opening day so Sergio, like twin, did his bit to help.
Medicos – like flavor their history makes me gag for fear that everything I know about this team is wrong.
Kershaw – or, as sports center like to call him, the greatest pitcher in the world deserved a L yesterday.
McGehee and Norichika – Their combined rbi and runs totals from last season are real close to Pablo/Gregor’s. I thought McGehee did well and I love the “I wanna hit the ball” look from Aoki
Pro: Nice to be in the bay and have comcast, I am like a real person again.
Con: My sister is still and A’s fan
Go Gigantes!
I was pretty pessimistic about our starters coming into the season, but even I didnβt think weβd be scratching guys and juggling multiple spots in the rotation on Day freaking 2!
At any rate, Iβm glad our old friend Vogey is ready to step in and it wonβt surprise me at all if he gives us a great effort.
Yeah, some ominous signs, BUT hey we got one win! It teels like 162-0 is possible! Sort of.
Just talked to Pat Driscoll. He was one of the refs last night for Duke-Wisconsin. Great guy. Our daughters go to school together; just played lacrosse. (Lost 15-3, and one of our girls got frustrated and whacked an opponent with a stick. That’s a no-no, and our coach should not have more or less defended it. The player was rightly ejected.) Anyway, Pat told me he talked to Dusty Baker yesterday in Indy. Liked him a lot. Dusty told him he played for Richmond in the Braves system in the minors. “Too cold to play there in Syracuse.”
I am sure Pat is a nice guy, but I sure think the refs butchered the game last night (Duke with twice as many FT attempts as Wisconsin???)…
Plus the two egregious calls in the 2nd half that went Duke’s way, as always seems to happen.
Better to have the uncertainty around the rotation hit early rather than Late.
By the end of May we should at least know who’s able to roll.
Cain’s arm issue could merely be a result of him being able to throw properly for the first time in 3 years.
It makes sense to keep Lincecum’s start in San Diego. His success rate against San Diego compared to Arizona the last few years is stark. Yeah, San Diego has improved: but Timmy vs. Goldy isn’t ideal.
And Heston looked intriguing in ST. He’s the most major league-ready starting pitcher the Giants have in the minors. I’m all for giving him a look on Wednesday.
I bailed on MLB Network’s “MLB Central” show pretty quickly. The show’s set up to look like The Today Show, or Fox and Friends, or something, and I don’t like that type of morning show. I liked “Hot Stove.” That was kind of a quirky fun show in the off-season. They should have just kept that format. But in their quest to “expand the audience” or whatever, they’re trying to look like every other schlocky morning show. And I don’t need to hear DeRosa’s opinion on anything. They should have gotten Flannery.
I agree with Zume…I would bring up Heston for the start on Wednesday, and keep Timmy line-up for his start in Dago.
Since AZ has like one quality experienced hitter, I think Vogs should be OK tonite too.
These are teams LA hammered last year, and SF needs to do the same. Sticking it to LaRussa never gets old.
I can see better days ahead for Sherps, but if Collmenter is your opening day SP, AZ seems doomed.
If Vogelsch is your No. 2 starter and MLB’s worst starter over the last two years remains in the rotation, you’re probably also doomed.
He’s not getting 30 starts.
Btw, seen Kershaw’s ERA? Hamels? Tanaka? Samardzjia? Jered Weaver? Lester?
You can’t tell anything yet as to how anyone’s rotation is going to be.
Pull your head out of your ass. 1 of 162 in the books…It is way too early to make any judgement on this team.
From the previous thread, Macdaog, this tournament had probably the worst officiating I have ever seen. I swear every player took 3 steps before then attempted a layup. And some of the foul calls were just plain ugly!! But it was an exciting game.
In regards to ugly foul calls, I point out that Duke had 20 FTAs vs. Wisconsin who had 10. Yeah, saying it was a lousy officiating job is a gross understatement.
Yeah but what I was saying was all the games were poorly officiated. I love watch these games cause it is one and done for all games played. And the games I saw the officiating was just awfull.
IK, yeah, it hasn’t been pretty. The refs just about ruined the final minutes of the Kentucky-Wisconsin game, both ways.
What is worse is that these calls are all unreviewable….that is a joke…
Heston is pitching tomorrow
In Arizona, appropriately enough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ju4Gla2odw
Nicknamed βHesto Prestoβ. It’s not quite on par with Sauce Castillo.
Did you guys have a Sauce Castillo discussion here at The Flap and I missed out on it or are you just making a random reference?
“Sauce Castillo for three-oh!”
haha, random reference. I figured you and zum would like it.
I do!
Apparently, the Candlestick Park “Memories” auction is scraping the bottom of the barrel at the moment, e.g., head coach chair that looks like it came out of Saul’s office (from Better Call Saul), Padre sign, chain gang room sign, etc.

If I buy a turnstile, will you go pick it up for me Blade?
Not likely with me being in Colorado.
in theory the turnstile would be a rad thing to have at your front door but that could get old, quick. Maybe set it up when you have company come over
I’ve seen Blade around the ladies–he should probably have one of those turnstiles in his freaking bedroom!
I drove by Candlestick the other day coming home from visiting my parents. I went through a whole should I/shouldn’t I thing about going over there, but at the last minute I said what the hell and went by. I was pleasantly surprised to see the bowl is mostly intact except for 2 sections of the rim that have been blown out. At one point I was on the west side and I saw that religious looking statue that is there in the one entrance. I had totally forgotten about that thing and felt like I hadn’t actually noticed it since I was a little kid. Do any of you know what I’m talking about? If so, do you know the story behind it?
A little googling and it is all solved. It is none other than St. Francis himself.

as I suspected, the Giants signed Correia to a minor league deal.
Nice. Any update on the Brad Penny negotiations?
I think they’re gonna kick the tires on a Zito trade first. Yikes.
Jints are the free game of the day on MLB.TV
Loo, thank you . . . I can watch this on TV via my pc.
PK– shoot me a text when you get the chance. I bought a new phone and had some problems with transferring my contacts. You + and handful of others are missing……
Love this name – Tuffy Gosewisch . . . Tuffy Gosewisch VS. Buster Posey. Both great names. π
I saw Tuffy play in Reno a couple of years back. He has such a great name, I paid some attention to him and I remember thinking he wasn’t big league material. Good for him.
With the Warriors game overlapping the Giants game, the Giants game is starting on an alternative Comcast channel. For DirectTV, it’s channel 696-1. Seriously, a network with a dash in its channel number.
The DirectTV remote control does have a dash on it. π
So, it seems Kevin Correia will be joining the rotation soon.
just as it seems you’ll be joining the spam filter rotation soon. I’m tired of your trollish bullshit. Normally, I don’t mind trolls if they’re interesting or clever. You’re neither. Knock it off or go fuck yourself. Either way, your rope here is near the end……
B-B-B-B-BUSTER!
Buster bomb!
Nice job getting Vogey an early lead.
Vogey wanted no part of Goldy.
I had never stopped to notice the *hitters eye* thing in AZ until yesterday when Kruk (or whoever) mentioned it. Makes sense that you can see the ball a lot better with nothing but a stable dark green background behind the pitcher…….
In L.A., the Dodger game is on a rain delay. That’s a rarity.
I’ve only been to LA once in my life (20 years ago) so I don’t know much about the location. But it seems to me the rain is coming later. Why postpone now?
http://www.weather.com/weather/map/interactive/l/USCA0638:1:US?interactiveMapLayer=radar&baseMap=r
Remember the fiasco in Chicago last year with the tarp? Oh man, Krukow was going ballistic. He was in full “conspiracy theory” mode.
Check out the Blonde behind the shot of the right hand batter., she looks like a good prospect. Glad to be back for the regular season here,
what up Manny? Welcome back.
Nice dog in the photo, Manny!
The ump didn’t give Vogey that 3-2 pitch near the corner on Goldschmidt, and it ends up hurting.
What a bomb. Damn. Has that ball even landed yet?
Yeah you right, Blade. He hit the shit out of that.
Thanks guys, I checked out the site all off season. I enjoyed reading you guys comments. Zumie, thats my best buddy, Puff Daddy the Shih Tzu
Good to see you Manny. π
sorry about my 8:35, now I feel responsible.
lqtm. Are you winning money? If so, I bet you don’t feel that responsible. π
I never count my money when I’m sittin’ at the table There’ll be time enuf for counting…. π
That’s just a good call on Perralta. Nothing to be sorry about.
Nice hit and run!
Keep the conga line moving.
3rd graders spell better than me
Did you know that mites have no anus? They live about two weeks, then they die from being overloaded with their own feces. True story.
They should have a telethon for them…
I have a small penis, don’t tell anyone
Actually all of us have mites crawling all over us. They live and die, never understanding the meaning of their place in the cosmos.
The rotation is in big trouble if Vogeldong has to keep going. He’ll end up with Goldstein’s schlong up my ass
I hope the trainer or doctor (vet?) doesn’t shoot him.
Sheesh, the Flap used to be such a nice family place — that is, the unique family that is Flap Universe, able to cuss each other out and say stupid shit to each other, all in the name of fun and the Game — but these trolls are truly becoming annoying…
Agree.
it is obvious who the rancid apples are
come on, 90% of the nonsense goes into my spam filter.
I have issues.
hey buddy, take care of those ok?
Yikes- hope Belt is OK. No Ishi to go in, either. Arias never looks very comfortable playing firstbase.
You seem a mite concerned, zum…
π
What happened to Belt?
He was running after a foulball and pulled up lame. With the trainer out there he pointed at the groin muscle area.
Oh, not good….
I’d like to bid the Flap bye bye. It was fun while it lasted. Now, back to my pathetic troll life somewhere else. See ya in Flavor’s spam filter!
love Vogey and Aoki getting hits here; now you gotta score…
Nice play by Voggie and good call by the ump.
Man, Vogs might be slower than Posey. Glad he got his hand down.
I know it’s not fair to Belt, but still, with that guy it’s always something. I guess just bad breaks for him.
Outta here til the trolls disappear….
overreaction.
I suck men off regularly
The Braves go 2-0 with a 12-2 drubbing of the Marlins.
and the added bonus was Latos getting his shit handed to him.
i am actually a 12 year old girl
Fuck.
ok, now I have to repost it just because that’s insane
Flavor said, on April 7, 2015 at 8:35 am (Edit)
I wouldnβt play Voggy in AZ with your $. Iβve got a few hitters from both teams going todayβlongshots are Lamb and Perralta who I think bang Voggy around pretty good.
That call was TOO GOOD!!!
That’s routine shit for BF. The 6-0 game of 2008? Cain’s perfecto?
the Cain no hitter was epic but even better is you remembering the 6-0 call back in 2008. I will hit the sack tonight shaking my head at anyone remembering that.
Looking forward to Heston and a little infusion of youth.
May have to pull Petit out of the pen, too…
I think the infusion of youth is a long time coming. Bring it on. And I’m not talking about that Kickham nonsense. Heston is a legit prospect, let’s see what he’s got
10Boo had a video of him and he’s dead Loo.
Craaaaaaaawwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!
Gotta give Sanchez some props. I was one of those calling for Susac.
This team doesn’t quit. Remember?
Great point.
Getting into the D-Backs bullpen. That could be interesting.
The Dodger game is on the MLB Network tonight.
Congratulations to the women of UConn . . . Props to Geno too, who equaled John Wooden’s record for most NCAA titles (10). Amazing record.
I read an insane stat today. It was Greinke and Kershaw’s combined record vs. the NL West the last two years. I can’t remember the total, but it was like 25-3 or something.
I think that was Guidry’s record in ’78…
