Kenny Stabler
I am a 49er fan but as a kid I loved certain Raider players. I think I liked their names. “Casper”. “Branch”. “Guy.” And of course, “Stabler.” I’m left handed too and I remember fashioning my td throws after him to my buddies in the street outside my house. In hindsight, it’s weird I never became a Raider fan but 2 guys named Montana and Clark probably had something to do with that.
Anyway, I remember watching this play in my living room–probably my first memory of watching a football game at home. “Get yer big butt outta here….” RIP, Snake.

Giants game tonight. There’s nothing like baseball in terms of a shitty team being able to beat you on any given night. The pitcher has everything to do with that. Cole Hamels v MadBum and I wouldn’t want to have to try to be a hitter in this game……
Unreal…
“Deja vu all over again”
Again Bochy leaves a pitcher ( vogs) one batter to long and got burned.Should of pulled him after the walk..
There you go Snarkk, bunt base hit for Blanco.
You just cannot dream up a more pathetic fuckin script than the one we are witnessing is this game. We should’ve put this shit-squad outta their misery 3 or 4 innings ago … I cannot entirely blame
Vogy for this disaster … 22 hits last night and ironically its Crawford who didn’t get one … Tonight he has the only hit of any consequence in a sea of opportunities.
No, Belt’s hit was no less “consequential” than Crawford’s.
I have tended to believe 100% in Bochy’s handling of the pitching staff. But I have noticed more and more comments here in the past couple of weeks about Bochy perhaps leaving a starter in a bit too long, and it seems it’s the *older* starters he’s doing this with: Hudson, Peavy, now Vogs. Flappers all season have talked about these guys mostly being fine for 5 innings but not after that. Has Bruce just not quite yet noticed this? 🙂
Part of the problem is that the bullpen is being overused. Consequently, Bochy doesn’t want to go to the “well” every time our #5 pitcher (Vogs, Timmy , Hudson, Peavy . . . in other words, anyone not named Bum) shits his pants in the 5th inning.
A conundrum insofar as the bullpen becoming more and more worn out, each time he does this. So yeah, he notices this, but his choices are limited.
Got it, agree…..
Matt Duffy is just an assassin with runners on base!
Just raises his game to higher levels.
Boch should simply cue off of Vogs era: as soon as he gets close to getting it under 4.00 you know he is gonna cave.
Wow nice shot from Pagan, one hop off the wall, and left handed to boot.
Now that they got Cy out the game everyone coming alive.
Boy did we ever need that double by Pagan, now let’s tie this game up Panik!!!
THAT is the Pagan we need to see regularly!
DuffMan!
The rook is so freakin clutch! … Unbelievable … How many times has he come through for us … Amazing!!!
Hope that is money in the bank Blade!
Yeah, that about sealed my cash game and I’m in the money at the moment in my tourney.
Hey, go out and have yerself a grand ol’ time in Cambridge, Ohio tonight.,… 🙂
Hilarious.
There ya go…
FUCK YES! Keep that conga line moving!
Wow Posey’s on 3b.
I guess this is the blueprint for how you get 30 games under .500.
after you take a 3 run lead no less.
Imagine what their yard would sound like if Phils were at home.
Heads up play by Kontos, could of been a ugly hit, a run, and their still batting.
Willie, this is the scoring rules for Fan Duel . . . For example, Belt has been worth 2.5 points; Duffy 8.75; and Craw 7 . . . All three have been DYNAMITE!
1B = 1pt W = 4pts
2B = 2pts ER = -1pt
3B = 3pts SO = 1pt
HR = 4pts IP = 1pt*
RBI = 1pt
R = 1pt
BB = 1pt
SB = 2pts
HBP = 1pt
Out (calculated as at bats – hits) = -.25pt
Interesting. And where do you play? Fan Duel?
Yeah. Their season averages are about 2 (maybe a bit more for Panik).
Pagan is the key to a successful second half and an 86+ Ws record. You can see what a hitting Pagan does for this squad. The Duffman is found gold for Sabean, and Giants fans….
Before that big inning, the box score said the G’s had 1 run on 10 hits, kind of an inefficient use of the hits. Now, 6 runs on just 3 more hits. Very efficient…. 🙂
Yep…they turned it around, but need to get out of this little fricking jam here. Strickland needs to get it together, or get someone up here who can get it done.
Strickland is disappointing so far. Not giving up dingers, but can’t seem to close an inning out. The guy may have some cotton between the ears…
McDP had two doubles for Miami today. WTF — didn’t it take him a month to get two doubles for SF?
And, BTW, he also had a GIDP…
OK, Giants now have 4+ runs, so they should win, right?
But, Phills also have 4 runs. Now what?…
Giants are winning this one…time to start a little win streak…
Down with that.
refresh that drink?
Somebody above hit hit the nail on the head. This Pen looks gassed already, I figured in August they might start to break down. You can’t have game after game of starters going 5 to 6 innings only, without starting to burn the bearings on the Pen arms. May need some AAA Pen arms coming up before the roster expands in September. Osich may be the vanguard. Else, these starters need to get into the 7th and beyond on a more regular basis. Unlikely tho’, with the age on the starters not named Bumgarner…
Go ahead . . . My name isn’t sacred. 🙂
I figured whoever said it had to be very observant. 😉
Even if they are in Twiddlethumbs, Ohio…
hehehe . . . Again, it is Cambridge . . . umm, ahh, ehh . . . Ohio.
Strickland = the predictability of unpredictability
Kontos = accountability
Kontos has figured things out, added some pitches to his repertoire which was originally just a four seamer and a decent slider. Nothing substitutes for experience, and a pretty good pitching coach…
Say Willedav, do you remember that Jerome Cooper record: The Predictability of Unpredictability?
Sure like to tack on a run or 2 more, before seeing Romo&Casilla..
Aoki has not been missed one iota. Giving credit to Aoki for Blanco’s play is more ridiculous than the Brandon Belt “grip” saga of 2013.
Especially since they can’t talk to each other.
Adrianza once again *working that at bat*… 🙂
Chi and you other guys bantering around the name Parra . . . I also had him on my DFS teams this evening. 9.5 points – his fan duel line . . . 1 1B1 2B1 HR2 RBI1 R2 O
Wow Triple O with a loud foul and then a ribbie, highlight reel.
Guess my fruition came true!
Way to get that extra run in 000!!
Nippy’s fine. He’s been posting a lot at my blog for some reason.
Missed all the action here. Did see the last 2 runs tho.
Tell Nipper the DH SUCKS…and tell him to get the coffee brewing.
Does Nip have a coffeemaker in that van?
Can a Keurig work off of a battery?…
OOO showing me something tonight, that was smart baseball to avoid the tag so a run could score..
Giants bats waking up, or are the Phills just doormat dogmeat? Pounding on Hamels was a good sign, smokin’ against this POS starter tonight doesn’t mean a helluva lot, but let’s button this win down anyway, and win the series…
Both.
You know man after watching the Phils, it’s really not fair for Giants fans to complain about anything.
Imagine having to watch these guys for 162.
After LA kicked their ass again I found some stuff on a Philly site, mostly talking about who they could get for Hamels or Pap.
Some were talking about what positions they need most and one guy quoted J Stark who said something like, hey they are the worst team in baseball, anything is an improvement.
Lopez is money. He and Kontos have been the only bright spots in the BP of late. Who will close? Romo was up in the pen…
Chi, if Casilla comes in, you’re going to be chewing fingernails… 😉
No shit. I seriously have NO confidence in the guy right now.
He won’t be the only one Snarkk..
Well looks like it’s gonna be my other nailbiter Romo to start the 9 th
I’m going to grab a drink right now…gotta be primed for the 9th….
Right now it ain’t pretty (closing games) regardless of who comes in…
Right now, I think I’d rather go with Casilla. Romo’s been throwing frisbees up there…
Sad to see the Phils gone down so far (although good for us this series). Philly fans just can’t fathom how Ruben Amaro (aka “Ruin Tomorrow”) still has a job….
Yeah, no idea how Amaro still has a job. Should have been fired after gifting us Hunter.
Oh hell no. He should have been promoted when he traded Pence away to us! 😉
Thinking the same thing Paul.
With all the bad contracts and dumb trades Amaro has done he should of been tied to the liberty bell and have it ring constantly!
I wouldn’t mind another run or two here…
2010 all over again….Giant’s Baseball…Torture!
Romo and his frisbees are very hittable lately. Two doubles? No bueno…
Romo who I thought could get out of it, just can’t seem to locate vs. LH…either gets pitches up too much and over the plate or not down in the dirt and inside enough.
Up 4 you shouldn’t have to bring Casilla in there
Lefties rake Romo…
Yeah you all knew we were going to get a dose of Casilla before the night was over. Just pray it’s not an overdose finish.
Ballgame!
There you go, Chi.
Casilla gettin’ er done…
😉
Definitely want to see more consistency in closing games, but the way shit has been of late, i’ll take a win any damned way they can get it. And I do not care who closes…I just want to see whoever the hell it is get the damned job done.
This was a really nice win. Coming back from a 4-1 deficit or whatever it was. Not EZ, even if the oppo is crap. I really do think Pagan is a key to the second half. If he can get healthy, whatever the hell is wrong with him (knee, back, ?) gets better, if he gets hot I think this team could have a decent run at the WC spots…
I agree. When he is on, he provides a huge charge to the team.
And Zum brings home a winner!
AND, the Brew Crew foamed the Doghairs 7-1. A good night all around…
And it is BenHur against Babs tomorrow. How Sweep it Would Be…
Duvall with three Jacks in Sac tonight.
Okay, so it was a vultured 1/3 inning win. Osich won his first MLB game tonight. So he’s currently 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and a 0.50 WHIP. Not too shabby for a recent double A callup. He had 19 saves at Richmond before the short-term posting to Sactown ~ then to The Show.
More magic in the pen is something the team needs mucho con mucho right about now. He keeps climbing those training-wheel rungs. A few more clean appearances and he may cop a steady gig in the latter innings. That might calm the nerves of a few Flappers.
