True Love
I don’t know how to say this, but I think I’m falling in love with Johnny Cueto. The long, flowing locks. The shimy that makes me all tingly inside. The complete games. He’s got it all, baby.
And he’s ours. He’s AAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL ours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
60 percent train keeps on rolling today with Smargy.
Joe Medwick?
No SD
I remember a few names from the 70s — Caldwell?
Yes! Notorious Yanks killer. The third one is tough.
Nice pull, James!
19 in a row set down by Smarj, bullpen better not eff this up.
Clean inning? Hah! Fuck. Why isn;t Smarge in there?
Good question.
To recap . . . Zum got Gehrig, who did it twice. Two more???? One of them did it 3 times and the other did it 2 times.
Kiner? I’m just grasping on that one.
No
Snider?
No.
Matthews?
Aaron?
Mize?
Ta da . . . Loo got it. Now, who is the other dude who did it 3 times?
It was a stab.
Mac dog,
Mike Willis??
Yes! Outstanding!
No recollection of that one…
No. Another hint – He was a Giant when he accomplished this.
Irvin?
No Zum, Mize was a Giant when he did it.
In fact, both times he accomplished the feat he was a Giant . . . 1947 and 48 I think.
I bet it was the guy that held up a liquor store. Forgot his name…
Lulz
I was thinking of Hank Thompson…
Eight game streak, seven game road sweep. Sweet.
An unimpressive 8th straight win!
Another stinker…
Loo, is that unimpressive winning streak at least becoming mildly interesting?
Headline suggestion: Eight is En-UGH!
I hope not.
straight outta Macdog’s playbook!!
I’ve been a huge supporter of Casilla, but, man, listening to Krukow there educated me. Casilla shook off Posey, to throw curves. Kruk said curves diminish: first is your best, the fifth in a row will be the worst. Panik saved Casilla from his own stubborn dumbness.
I wish someone would do that for me…
hire someone…at hourly rates
See that graphic? 2nd time the Giants ever won all games on a roadtrip of 7 or more games. The last time? 1913, when my dad was born. (Christy Matthewson won 3 in that stretch, said Kuiper.).
Angels take a 5-4 lead over the Dodgers.
Pawlie should know the last player.
I thought you named them all. Are you saying Mays??!!???
No, Mays struck out a bit too much. This player did it 3 times in the 50s. The Giant reference was to Mize who played with us in the late 40s.
and not Musial…..hmmmm….Ernie Banks? Jackie Robinson?
wasn’t Mike Caldwell originally a Giant?
Padre, I think.
A Pad, then a Giant I think
I looked it up: Traded by Padres to Giants for Bernie Williams . . . and Willie McCovey.
Stripling was stifled, Edith.
Hornsby?
No SD . . . Not certain, but Hornsby played in the early 1910s and 1920s
6-4 Timmies over Dogs.
Yogi?
No, good guess though because Yogi had an excellent eye (good contact hitter).
Off-topic: I am halfway through Pitching Around Fidel by S.L. Price. Superb. Excellent writer. I’m sure zumiee and a few others read it.
Ahh Fidel. Good baseball player. Lousy dictator.
I haven’t gotten to it yet. I was waiting to see if my local library is going to get it.
Marty Marion?
Gil Hodges?
Anyone remember SL Price when he was with the Sacramento Bee? You could tell he was going to be a good one
was he? He is a heckuva writer, he really is.
Marion no, Hodges no.
Clue – This guy had muscles before gyms were vogue.
Big Klu?
Loo with the metal trap mind does it again! Yep, Ted Kluszewski
Ted Klu always had no shirt or rolled his sleeves up to show his muscles. His name even sounded muscular.
Rusty Stab?
No unca . . . Think 1950s.
Klewzinski? However his name is spelled.
You got it too Zum
Ah, Pawlie got it at the same moment, too!
Someone said stab. My attempt at lame humor.
Robinson? Banks? As John Charles Daly used to say on What’s My Line? we’re going to flip the cards over and give you the answer. did Loo even answer his? I’m so confused. And sober too.
Big Klu Pawlie. I would have bet a million dollars you would have known that, as he did it in the 1950s.
I got it! Timestamp!
I actually remember him much more for his arms more than his stats, so when you gave the muscle hint, sure (not that I said it).
Hard to believe that he had such a good eye. Remember, this has only been done a total of 10 times (insofar as 40 or more bombs and having less SOs).
Cory Lidle v Ted Lilly
Mark Mulder v Mike Mussina
Sterling Hitchcock v Erik Hijus
..I will take this knowledge to the grave with me
I hope that’s not for a long time and you at least take it to a few bars first…
He actually tore off his sleeves because it restricted his swing. The Reds organization was pissed when he did it.
7-4 Angels.
Mantle? No one said that?
Timmies up 7-4
Are you kidding? He’s already on the Angels roster?
Now the Angels have signed Mickey Mantle???
Too many strikeouts, Chuck
Well, they signed him. He passed his physical.
Mantle struck out too much. I love how you’ve coined “Timmies.” G’night, girls. And to TedSpe.
Mantle was huge striker outer for his era.
Los Teal Tiburones smoked the Blues tonight . . .
Dang, I just saw that Loo got Klu first. My timestamp now rendered less meaningful. š
The muscle “klu” was a gimme…
Yes, but you were typing and already had the answer in your brain housing unit. Who knows? Perhaps you thought of it before Loo, but you were in the bathroom (or elsewhere) and then making your way towards your laptop or PC . . . Unbeknownst to you, Loo had already pressed the “Post Comment” button. A lot of “ifs” I know, but theoretically possible.
Nope….the hint was the giveaway.
After looking up Aaron’s stats, I’m going to praise myself with a “Good guess!”
Undoubtedly deserves a pat on the back. š
I really wanted to drop Helton’s name, but knew there was no way you would have asked the question if he’d been a correct answer š
Plus, you got Mike Caldwell going for you. Caldwell had a thing where, if a guy homered off of him, he would intently stare at him the entire time he ran the bases.
He was the ace of the first really crummy Giants team I followed an entire season. I resented his post-Giants success.
…and lost in all of the commotion was a great call by alleycat coming up with Mike Willis!
The 3 Mikes were all lefties. Mike Willis went 7-21 over the course of his career. The Guidry game was a spot start and the only complete game of his career.
Great trivia tonight fellas…
Grandal hitting .202 now. Ouch.
Angels win!
Our division lead is at 3 1/2 games.
Outta nowhere…
Good news: Dodgers at .500 after losing again to Angels.
Bad news: They get the Padres next.
And we get them again next week. š
Could be good news – They took 2 out of 3 from the Bums in their first series back in April and they did it in the Dodgers yard.
Forgot that one. All I remembered was the three shutouts to start the season.
Yeah, they actually sort of beat the Dodgers soundly in 2 of the games and lost 1-0 in the other one. This division as a whole is much more competitive than it was last season IMO.
Fantastic road trip. I’m thinking we win 2/3 from the Cubbies. Cain is slowly starting to turn it around. Takes another big step Saturday.
