Set Up For More Double U’s
What a great American holiday weekend we have to look forward to. Weather is warming up. BBQ’s firing. The Warriors and Sharks will be playing epic games. It seems almost wrong that the Giants will be playing baseball in Nepal.
But you gotta play the games where they schedule ’em, right?
The Giants have NEVER come into a series in Colorado in better shape. They’re winning the shit out of every series they see. Their starters are going “porn star” deep into games so the bullpen is as rested as a retired grandmother. Plus, while we had a day off, Colorado had to play a game in Boston yesterday.
So let’s get this great weekend started off right. Tonight.
Your thread is succinct and to the point . . . As Captain Picard would say, “Make it so” Warriors, Sharks and Giants.
Keen assessment, Flav. It’s still May. Time to make some hay and rubble some Rox.
Sometimes I think this place needs a tad more humor. One of the raddest leads yet.
For sure “total rad with the porn star line”! Let’s lay out some extra John Holmes shaft this weekend in Colorado and kick their booties!
Cursory look at Rox SPs (cue Blade with better scouting report):
Chatwood has ERA of 3.02, tops of SPs, pretty good considering. Rox are 13th or 14th in NL most pitching categories including runs allowed. He’s made 9 starts, the other two only 4 each.
Butler has only walked 3 guys in 27 innings
Rusin in 36 innings has not given up any HRs
Giants have Cain then Bum and Cueto. Hope one of them can figure out how to keep Arenado in the park
What’s up with Belt? No days off coming until trip ends after 4 with Braves/3 in STL next weekend
Mac thx for the reminder on Bullets come back. Loved Dandridge and his mid range J.
Chatwood has been the Sherpas best starter, particularly on the road where he owns a 0.53 ERA. Heβs had a much rougher go at Coors Field (like most pitchers do). In nine games (eight starts) against the Giants, Chatwood is 3-3 with a 4.00 ERA.
Hopefully, Belt is able to play tonight. Regarding the Sherpas, I’m most worried about Blackmon and Gonzales, who both have the platoon edge against Cain. Arenado hits everyone and he was relatively quiet on their recent road trip, so he’s looking forward to being at home.
Oh, one last thing – Weiss shook up his LU last night, moving Story to 7th and LeMahieu up to the second slot. This makes sense because he strikes out a lot and didn’t do well on most of the road trip. He is now batting behind Reynolds and Parra . . . Parra is struggling with a .298 OBP, but Reynolds has surprised in the 5 hole, with a .309/.367/.434 line, although he still strikes out a lot at a 25% clip.
Re Reynolds: Is 25% considered a lot? I always thought that for guy with some pop, one SO in four AB was a reasonable percentage .. maybe I’m wrong? … hey, wait a minute! I’m NEVER wrong … and if I am, it’s never my fault! π
It is a lot BB . . . In fact, he still has the record for most SOs in a season, but may be overtaken by his teammate, Story.
Mac I also loved the Ice Man and SA too and tried to catch Spurs whenever they were in town. Usually a game vs. Warriors was 125-122 or so.
Mike Mitchell, Johnny Moore, Artis G (one of largest humans plus fro I’ve ever seen), Gene Banks Rod Brewer Oaktown kid Edgar Jones, high octane offense.
cool black unis too with the diamond logo on the hip
Something wrong with NBA that nobody scores that many points anymore
Yeah, Iceman, Larry Kenon and James Silas, with Doug Moe running the show, made for a high-scoring bunch.
Old man strength or steroids? I give you David Ortiz and his 197 wRC+ and you decide. lqtm……
He’s probably just staying away from the women to save his strength. Like the boxers do.
MdBum on the bump tonight! Go Giants!
Cain. π
Gah! That’s the second time in 2 days I’ve done that. I can’t stop thinking of Peavy as anything but a #5 starter!
Yeah LJ .. I think we touched on this the other day .. Me too, I’m always thinking of Peavy as the 5 guy … Or maybe I’m thinking of him as somebody that should be flipping burgers at Five Guys!
GO SHARKS!
GO WARRIORS! (for djloo27!)
It’s a cornucopia for Bay Area sports fans!
Interesting note on the Dodgers’ Urias- the most innings he’s pitched in a season is 87, and he’s already at 40. They’ll be putting a limit on his innings at some point.
that’s actually the main reason I’m not playing him tonight. Can’t see them letting him go more than 6, if that, especially if he’s got a higher pitch count with the K’s he’ll likely be picking up
Cain, for all his improvement, has a tough row to hoe up in the thin air. This’ll likely be a high scoring affair. Belt would be nice to have. As would Pence. Didn’t Buster miss the last trip?
Good to see Kontos back. . . .
You’re right Posey missed first two games at pie in sky .. Sam one first, Peavy got his era to a shining 10.00 in the second, Posey has 0fermin the last which Cain lost.
Beyond that, does anyone give Toronto a shot at taking the series to 7?
After going at least 6 inning in each of his last 3 starts Cain has been solid as of late so I’m interested to see how he performs tonight. He’s got a 4.80 ERA & 1.28 WHIP over 92 innings at Coors Canaveral. I was sort of surprised at those numbers as I remember him carrying a no hitter late into a game there and thought he generally had decent success in CO.
“Coors Canaveral” is a good line ~ great if original. Truly, this one will be a big test for Cain ~ not so much as to whether he has returned to the status as a competent ML pitcher, but whether he’s still our stalwart old Horse. If he can do that 3 in 6 in the Box of Rox i’d say we got our old stallion back. In that launching pad no more than 3 runs in six innings is indeed a “quality start”.
I can’t lay claim to the Coors Canaveral line. It was used pretty regularly for a while. I guess it fell out of favor.
1.28 ain’t too bad for Colo.
That’s true, chuck. Cain’s fly ball tendency combined with the thin air launching pad are always worrisome.
Yeah lots of good stuff this weekend!
Dubs, Giants,Sharks trifecta!
Heading up to Reno tomorrow early( like 4-5am cause you can’t leave this shithole Bay Area after 5pm cause it will take you 2 to 3 hrs just to get to the Carquinez bridge, fuck that!
Gonna hit up El Darado(flav’s joint) Maybe Atlantis, and Pepper Mill to get my Skink on and pry allittle coin out of these places are not(Blackjack, Slots, Poker)All you Flappers have a great Memorial weekend.Should be full party ahead time for all!!!
Lincoln Lounge is a good spot for drinking if your in the downtown area.
Thanks Dirt,
Think I’ve been there downtown near the Aces ballpark? Bunch of Lincoln mugs & minature Lincoln heads behind the bar?and pool table really great dive bar right up this Kat’s Alley!
There’s a great Basque ( They really give you a ton of food)restaurant across the street for dinner and drinks as well!
That’s the place, Kat. Nive beer garden in back. My mug is #301.
Have a good trip, Kat. Skink in moderation. π
Friends don’t let friends drive skink.
Kat, if you win some money at the tables, head over to the Gentlemans Club behind Harrahs. I haven’t been there in years, but I would put it above some of the best in the country, even the notorrious ones down here in Houston and Dallas. Or drop some of that coin on a nice steak at Harrarhs. Classic, old school steakhouse, one of my all time favorites.
Nice tip WJ,
Could roll with that as well.Mighty bad ass steak at Harrah’s sounds great!Though i doubt I qualify as a Gentlemen anymore( lol)Do you know of a good Skink Club in Reno? Are is that only located by seedy Rail City?
Flavor and Wilcojoe, be very careful about selecting players from Colorado or San Francisco tonight for DFS. High winds (NNE 16 mph gusts to 19 mph) and thunderstorms. Rain isn’t likely, but you never know in Denver, as we get our weather from Canada, the Pacific, and the Gulf. Consequently, the saying around here is relevant – “The weather man (or lady) doesn’t predict the weather here, but reports it.”
Regarding the wind . . . I suspect more HRs than usual tonight.
Shit. High winds? *gulp* This could get ugly.
Thanks Blade! One of the nice things about being forced to only play DraftKings is I don’t have to worry about the weather as much. Unless it’s a Turbo contest…Coincidently, ever since you mentioned that Flavor rarely follows the fantasy experts, I have not since read a Roto article. Since then I have placed in the money in at least one tournament every day since. Eff those guys!
De nada . . . It stopped raining. Sun is playing peek a boo . . . Still, there are storm clouds over the mountains and those almost always head East toward Denver. Still, I wouldn’t be worried as much about rain, as I would be thunder and lightening (I think we rank number 2 after Florida) and wind.
Hah! When I lived in the mountains you could set your watch by the afternoon thunderstorms from April-September.
Bingo. It just started raining. I’m about 6 miles from the ball park.
In honor of the Giants, I ate a grinder today in Mystic.
Why not Pizza to honor the movie?…
Nope, grinders from Angie’s Pizza & Pier 27 Lounge for the boat, From what I’m told, the movie was actually made in a Lobster house in Stonington, apparently nothing in the movie was filmed in Mystic. Last night was lobsters just off the boat, but hey, back to to those Giants and the mystical way that they’ve been grinding out Wins.
Urias’ first big-league inning: 36 pitches, 3ERs.
Dodgers boy wonder, Urias, has shit his pants in the first inning against the Mets.
Looks like a cocky fucker too.
And the kid is out in the 3rd inning.
Yup, the phenom finito after 2 2/3 IP.
There’s not a lot to say after one start, but he does throw the ball well. I didn’t think his fastball had much movement on it at all, though it was consistently at 95 mph. His breaking pitches were sporadic, but first start jitters and all that.
Yeah, his control wasn’t as good as advertised, but could have just been first-game nervousness.
A bit of air will go out of the hype-balloon for a few days.
typical Dodger bullshit
Hilarious! Such a focused team!
DeGrom hasn’t looked all that great himself.
DeGrom is nibbling, for criminy’s sake.
With Harvey struggling, the Mets’ dominant starting pitching has already taken a hit. Without great starting pitching, the Mets have no identity.
You have got to be fucking kidding me. The dude has his cell phone with him in the field?! WTF I’ve never seen that and hope I never do again.
I watched Matz dominate the Nats the other day. He may be the best of them all. He’s a really, really good looking left hander. Collins stupidly took him out after 8 and Familia almost blew it.
This is to Mac or Loo . . . I heard something’s wrong with DeGrom’s velocity. True?
Yes, it’s been noticeably down all year, but he battles and usually manages to get by. He’s not all that young either…
TY Loo
Met announcers are raving about his slider right now, but he never hits 98-99 on the gun anymore – at least when I watch…
John Shea β@JohnSheaHey 2m2 minutes ago
Rockies say first pitch will be thrown at 7:20 p.m., that’s 6:20 p.m. China Basin time.
In Baltimore, it would be 6:42.
He’s been around 95-96 on the gun.
5-1 Mets…
Wow, this Tor/Cleveland game is getting a little chippy lulz
I have literally never heard anyone else involved with MLB who gives homeplate scouting reports, besides Krukow.
Homeplate umpire, I meant.
The Horse breaks down…
So we’ll see about Suarez. Maybe that’s not a bad thing?
fuck.
beat guys think it’s his groin.
Are there one or two groin muscles?
Do women have them?
Sadly, I’m not kidding…
Didn’t see your post, thanks!
It’s an uphill battle for the 40 percenters sometimes.
What happened to Cain?
Threw a pitch and came up gimpy.
Heston pitched very well in his latest AAA outing, for what it’s worth.
I am at the River Cats game, they are playing the Dodgers AAA team, GO CATS
Very cool. Nice ballpark.
Familia is trying to blow the Mets game.
And he succeeded…
He killed the Mets in the World Series.
Sweet for fuckin’ Utley…
With that little short-hack swing.
fucking Familia!
I hate the role of closer. They’re all nearly worthless.
wow, what an ending.
Mets game…… oh baseball! π
Baez gave up the winning run. The only good thing about Familia blowing it, is the fact that the Dodgers used a shit load of pitchers (6 total, including Baez) tonight.
And they lost. yeehaw
Yes, there is that too LJ. π
There you go Flav, Familia chokes away a 4 run lead and ends up getting the win. The closer role may indeed be devalued.
Familia gets the win- LOL.
Right hamstring strain for Cain according to CR announcers. They say that’s about a month to heal…
Fuck.
they don’t know, totally depends on the grade. Remember when Casilla fell down running to first, I thought he was dead. He was pitching again in a week. All things considered, this was best case scenario unless you think Cain is done then it’s one of the worst case scenarios.
A strain for Cain will mainly be a pain;
I think he’s got it…
Familia with the win. I see. deGrom must enjoy that. The single best thing about daily fantasy baseball is that there is no save category. I couldn’t tell you who 5 closers are in the league. And I fucking LOVE THAT.
Looks like Suarez got thrown into the deep end of the pool. He wasn’t torn up by a mass of piranhas, but did leave some blood in the water.
he better have tough ERA skin. Think he’s gonna be in there a while
Scheduled to hit third this inning. What will Bochy do?
I guess we should be grateful that it’s 4 doubles and not 4 HRs.
They should put bulls-eyes on those fences when the Giants come to town.
Wow, smart hitting by JP…
The Giants’ batting averages are melting like Frosty the Snowman.
I miss those days when Pence seemed indestructible.
I miss those days when we played the Padres.
lulz
Cavs are in the finals.
I think I’d take 20 position players before Posey if starting a team. Maybe more. He’s near worthless.
Sans Belt, he’s our leading hitter at .259.
He beats the hell out of Jimmy Coker…
Kudos to Suarez, not easy coming in cold in that bandbox but he kept the Giants in it.
Agree. Rocks broadcast crew saying the same thing.
Absolutely. Suarez (who I astutely mentioned in the last thread) became a Giant tonight…
Reynolds is a perfect example of someone being a complete zero the last several years, where he comes to Coors and is hitting over .300 (last 8 years he’s been averaging about .220) and his OBP is off the charts at .367. Oh, and the Rockies picked him up for $2.6 million.
I have seen this happen too many times, i.e., a Coors Field creation.
This is turning into a fucking video game.
Is it just me, or even with all these wins lately, Giants baseball seems a little flat? … probably just me projecting my own BS … Just wondering ..?
I mean, Bum, Cueto, Sam andre spectacular fun .. but the rest of it …?
” .. are spectacular fun”
I guess teams look flat when they’re not hitting – even if they’re winning.
There’s no “fireworks”…
And a power shortage with Pence and Belt out.
I wonder if Willie Mays knows that he hit his first ML homer 65 years ago today.
I wonder how well he remembers it…
His memory seems good still, in interviews I’ve seen.
He has to, it was off of Warren Spahn and came at the end of a horrible start for him at the plate.
Sandy Koufax who hit all of 2 HRs in his career also hit his first off Spahn.
So did the patchless one – Jim Ray Hart…
I reiterate, I hate fucking Coors Field.
I can’t blame Cain for getting hurt. But. Other than the last 3 starts, this dude has done squat or been hurt for nearly 3 seasons worth of time now. Giants have paid about $55 million over that stretch for not much. Even Zito wasn’t hurt that long (that one stretch with his ankle was total BS how long they held him out), though I wish he had been most of the time. Like I’ve said now for a long while, I have no expectations at all for Cain. Is Suarez now the #4.5 to take over? I never even heard of this guy before Spring Training — where’s Blackburn or Heston — one of them has to come up, right?…
We can blame him a little for the sandwich incident. π
