Giants and OBD
Busy today, just a quickie to get ya going. Carl Crawford got Df’d today. Money well spent. If we didn’t have to pay for the next year and a half of his deal, I’d let him run around in right field till Pence got back. He could be the ghost of Reggie Smith. Loved that dude in ’82.
OBD tonight at 5pm. Les go.
Today we find out whether quasi-resurrected Peavy has recovered his mojo sufficiently to put up a good game vs the currently leading offense in the NL, or whether his winning (or even competing) efforts will mostly be limited to flounders, flatfish and other bottom-dwellers.
I hope willied is right that Peavy will do better in the heat and humidity he’s used to at home in Alabama. Hope is one thing. Yesterday’s homerfest by the Cards doesn’t raise by expectations for Peavy today. Giants need to get their bats in gear, and don’t run themselves out of innings and runs…
Yeah Peavy needs to get his Lynyrd Skynyrd tracks a spinning, cook up some grits& vittles, maybe a shot of moonshine, whatever it takes to get his mojo on for this game…
I don’t believe anyone gets used to heat and humidity. It sucks for everyone. And Peavy’s old ass is going to get lit up tonight.
If I’m the Giants, I wait till Crawford clears waivers and then I sign him. Pay him the league min while LA pays the rest. That would be awesome no matter what he does and he has to have at least enough left in the tank to out-produce Mac-Park.
Hell yeah, I would totally be down for that
Like a old tractor or forklift sometimes you have to go to a museum to get parts. Same goes with a worn out Carl Crawford. Father Time has caught up with his body and skills. Totally pass if I’m the Giants…
Hard to see what Crawford has left. I think Alley is right, classic case of the speed guys that go downhill pretty fast once injured(Giants have one). He has no arm at all and isn’t a good OF either.
Watching the Stros-A’s game, Colby Rasmus is batting .228 with a .700 OPS.
Carlos Gomez (who HRed off Gray who otherwise pitched well in 5) is under Mendoza line at .187.
How about the Tribe romping KC and retaking first place.
Flav, buddy of mine grew up in different places, New Mexico Vegas and Missouri before family landed over in Fremont/Newark area of East Bay. Said he got used to Vegas, and if you can get used to that I think Southern guys get acclimated to that environment. Yes it’s humid in STL but not any hotter than bay area right now.
Bum’s comment pitching in ATL last year was he got loose early.
Crawford looks like he’s done, at whatever price. I’d rather see what Parker and Williamson can do, so a final decision can be made on those guys…
Logic says Peavy will get tattooed tonight by an HR hitting, heavy LHB lineup. Bochy better have the hook ready and let Stratton loose on these guys, he’s an unknown…
Coming from someone who has lived in constant 100 plus degree dry heat (Austin) and now 90 degrees plus 85% humidity heat (Houston), I would take the former all day, everyday and twice on Sundays. There is nothing in this world worse than getting in your car/truck at 7:30 in the morning wearing a suit and tie and sweat dripping down your brow before you have even turned your keys ignition. That is the number one reason I took a huge pay cut to work from home.
I remember that Houston drill very well, wilcojoe. In the morning I’d walk from the house into the sauna of the garage and I’d be sweating like a pig before I even got into the car. 3+ years in Houston was plenty for me. Compared to Houston, Austin has drier heat, but compared to California, IMO Austin is pretty sauna like. I lived for 3 years in DC, it was a sauna in summer. But, I’d give DC a AAA league rating for humidity and the misery index. Houston is definitely major league. However, I spent a few days in Tampa once. After that sweatbox, I’d take Houston — Tampa was friggin’ unbelievably brutal. I wouldn’t get near Florida for retirement, because of the weather and the lunatics that live there…
St. Louis ain’t no slouch when it comes to heat and humiliated relatives. Recalling Summer of ’64 up in the dorm room on #3 Fraternity Row at Washington University. We looked forward to after dark when the temp would actually drop below 90. With the Illinois, Missouri and Mississippi rivers all converging in the neighborhood, that scene has plenty of moisture to draw from.
Stix might be made of Pyrex…
“It ain’t the humidity, its the stupidity.” – tee shirt.
Not too confident about this game tonight unless our lefties (Belt, Span, and Crawford) can rake.
Peavy? He looks like road kill this evening in my opinion. First 6 batters (Carpenter, Diaz, Holliday, Piscotty, Adams, and Moss) are a “Murderers Row,” with wOBA vs. RHP and ISO vs. RHP off the charts, especially in their last 14 games.
naturally, that means we win…
who can name Murderers’ Row? my guess is it’s from the 1927 Yankees. I’ll say: Ruth, Gehrig, Lazzeri, Dickey, not in that order
How about a “mass murderers” row?
Everyone forgets Juan Corona…
Martinez won his first 4 starts of the year, then lost 5 in a row before throwing 8 shutout innings to beat Brewers last time out. 2 starts before that AZ and Cubs lit him up; 4 of those Ls were at home. In 6 of his starts, and his averages about 6 innings per, he has walked 3 guys. So maybe best bet is to be patient and make him throw strikes.
I think Friday thread Daniel mentioned he had been bothered by flu bug.
Giants off tmw and then after 2 with boston, including Suarez start, have another day off before LA comes in.
every time I hear Marty Lurie say “mosaic” I crack up. Not sure why.
The sun just broke through, piercingly, with cloudy backdrop, at around 6:50pm, after a day of clouds and rain. But you SF-area folks get those micro-climate flashes all the time. Miracle light.
OBD. OBD. Hmmmm.
http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/OBD
Took me a while. Our beloved Dubs?
name bestowed by Loo
ESPN or some stats geek posted that if Jake wins tonight he is only the fifth active pitcher with 150 or more wins. I can’t recall the others. Lester and Sabbathia, I think, among them. That’s crazy.
Colon?
yes, I think so
If your squad faces Bartolo and loses, does that mean you’ve been given a High Colonic?…
Colon, Sabathia, Lackey, Verlander, Garcia. Peavy tied with AnxietyBoy at 149. Felix Hernandez and Lohse at 147.
strike Garcia. Baseball-reference.com had him on the chart, buty he’s surely not active.
snarkk, did you locate your Choctaw Ridge Chick at WashPost?
I’ve been a fan of that song since it came out. As a kid I remember it, the AM radio played the hell outta that song for weeks and weeks. Everybody wondered what the heck they threw off the bridge? Yeah, I was cruising around WaPo on the 3rd and clicked on it. A voyeuristic article, IMO, not my idea of journalism. But, then I went back to youtube and looked at various versions. The one I posted was a later one, she was a a coupla years older after the hit, and she really played with that version “artistically”, and it was a bit weird as she sat in the middle of that audience. But, I really liked that version. It’s still a haunting song, and you can put whatever meaning you want into it. Surely, the father’s nonchalance about Billie Joe killing himself, and the mother’s low grade suspicion of her daughter’s hanging out with him is grist for the mill. The preacher dropping in — all sorts of stuff going on there at the dinner table. I hadn’t remembered she was really a knock out looker, too — now she’s 70+. As I think they said in the article — she’s kind of the Harper Lee of country…
Little did you know that half a century later we would somehow use it to describe a Giant game…
Yeah, that was fun.
I’d like a more upbeat song to work in tonight. But, with Peavy this one has the look of Mozart’s Requiem…
apparently Bum hit a ball in batting practice into the deck ABOVE Bog Mac Land. Then this tweet:
Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN 6m6 minutes ago
Groundskeepers here said they have seen only one other player hit a ball where Bumgarner did, in highest deck — Nelson Cruz, HR Derby.
21 years I lived immediately around DC did not hold a candle to the one summer in Kentucky. Thunderstorms every afternoon/evening it seemed. Imagine Houston is that times 10.
But the hottest day I ever experienced was in Alexandria, VA. Worked in a restaurant on weekends including the Saturday double and knew it was a hot day so I walked outside between shifts and the temp was 115 and I shit you not the heat index was 1frickin30….was the equivalent of walking into a literal oven.
As you follow my tales of White Russians, you will realize it worked again last night for the Sharks. Dubs don’t need the magic yet…go Warriors!!!
And I think there are better options than Crawford. There was a blurb about the Giants being interested in Andrew Miller if the Yanks start shopping him but mentioned Tyler Beede would be the cost. Not sure how to weigh that but Miller could be a difference maker that Javier Lopez or Affeldt were in previous WS runs.
Still need an OFer first. Souza hit his 10th yesterday…
I don’t know why the Giants would give up supposedly the next one or two starting arms that have real potential to make it. They are going to need maybe two new starters next season…
Jackson and VanGumby doing the game. Miss marv albert, who’s still got it. Webber and Reggie Miller with him a nice combo.
ESPN, mute only for Giants.
ABC/ESPN is desperate for a Cleveland series win, preferably in 7 games. You can hear it in almost every call they make. Jackson, the embittered, terminated coach, Van Gundy, well like you said willie, Van Gumby. Their disdain for Golden State is barely contained.
Good for los! and the kick ass little woman.
K and K have had him up in the booth before. Has he ever done anthem there? He do an AS game?
Philly used to have Grover Washington Jr., one of my fave sax guys, do anthem before Sixer games, really nice.
The death ref Scott whatever his name is, he’s reffing tonight. Not a good omen for the Dubs…
Dubs careless early…
lotta inside at the rim hoops tho. Get the outside shots going!
Brain dead ESPN crew (especially Olney) bringing up Bruce, Braun, Inciarte, and Reddick as replacements for Hunter Pence.
Hilarious. Flap crew knows that we’ll be at the dollar store looking at Crawford.
Then they settled on John Jay as the perfect fit.
No mention of “Kakes”…
Here we all are talking about an OFer and MLB Trade Rumors has the Giants going after Yankees left-handed reliever Andrew Miller for Tyler Beede
BTW, I’d do that trade.
They’re giving up on Beede already?
The article said Beede wouldn’t be nearly enough to get Miller who has a very club-friendly contract…
I switched broadcasts to Jon Miller and someone else (dunno who it is). Wondering if this is still ESPN, with Miller working for them? In any event, I would love to have Andrew Miller. I have no idea on how good Beede is doing at the moment, but to me – minor league players are just currency (unless they are can’t miss like Lincecum, Trout, Harper). I’ve been following Miller for quite awhile and he is doing outstanding this season, with a 15.0 K/9. His 1.14 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 23 1/3 innings is also other-wordly. Only reason the Yanks are getting rid of him is because they need help elsewhere and already have Betances and Chapman. By the by, Miller has a good shot to be an All Star this July.
Beede’s numbers are rather mediocre so far in his career:
http://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.cgi?id=beede-000tyl
You’re probably right Loo. Again, I have no idea how Beede is doing right now. I only know that Miller is a stud.
Thanks LJ . . . Yep, not really impressed with Beede.
A little TOP coming off the break. Nice. The good thing about playing Cleveland is they can’t run away fast.
The continuance of the lazy passing we’ve seen throughout these playoff by the W’s is completely baffling to me. They can’t seem to help themselves. This team just isn’t a first half team.
Dray hot from downtown!
The W’s really clamped on the defense after my post stating they aren’t a first half team. Open mouth, insert foot. More accurate would probably be to say it takes them a while to get into a flow. Right now they’re clicking big time.
Parked!
Jarrett jack!
I was almost about to buy that kid a one way ticket to Sacramento. Whoops. 🙂
At least one of the ones he hit last year at ATT went out to LF iirc.
Sure Ks a lot tho.
Outta the Parkers gonna happen now and again. Nice Blanco was on.
A little sloppy when Steph left. But like I said Cleve is a plodding team and won’t run away from anyone. They can’t left Steph get into foul trouble on Bron Bron.
Guys on ESPN are tolerable without the gal.
Peavy 53 pitches through 4, 1 run allowed.
Next time through the order, we’ll see.
Any idea Willie who the broadcasters are? I went to a different link, but it seems like the same ESPN broadcast with someone who sounds similar to Jon Miller. No idea who the other guy is either.
OK, just nailed down Dave Schulman (whoever the hell that is). Dunno who his partner is.
Aaron Boone, I think…
Thanks Loo . . . A couple of weeks ago, I looked up something regarding the Red Sox and then cross referenced it with Aaron Boone’s wiki page and found this:
“The New York Daily News dubbed the play the “Curse of the Boonebino”. This home run was rated the ninth-best home run of all time on Baseball Tonight, and Boone took on the moniker “Aaron Fucking Boone” among Red Sox fans.”
how many times tonite have Warriors got basket off back door cut where Cavs are pointing at each other?
I told SanDawg I watched a buddy of mine’s 12th grade girls Asian club team that talks and communicates constantly on the floor. this is HS stuff–bump cutters so they don’t run free and talk on defense on screens.
Yadier Molina sure having trouble catching this guy. Just seems like he is on downhill of career offensively too.
And what’s with that grotesque tattoo on the right side of his neck?
Shingles would look better…
LOL
100 pitches on Martinez after 6. After five Peavy was at 68.
and the wheels about to fall off.
Time to call it a night, Jake.
Uh talk to me Vern.
I don’t think Cavs could win 4 in 26.
Just knew the failure to capitalize in the top of the inning would lead to this..
Time to call it a night, Strick.
Yeah, Boone and Dan Schulman are the Sunday night regulars. Jessica Mendoza is also part of that crew. Don’t know where she is tonight.
Why or why was Peavy Sent back out there..clusterfucked…
Serious? See Carstie’s 6:57pm regarding pitch count.
Not all his fault – I’ll take that from him any time.
Don’t worry just yet, Parker hits ’em in bunches…
The seven baserunners in 5 innings is ok, but in the end his ERA was 6.34 coming in tonight and it went up.
So did his bad luck quotient, I guess…
When you have 6.5 ERA, luck is not a major variable.
Well he got no help from the pen or his defense.
Thus his “NHFTPOHD” figure rose significantly…
Missed most of this one … loading the moving truck .. Ugh! .. 106 in the shade … I don’t care if it’s a “dry”‘heat .. I’m too old for this shit .. Seems like Peavy was decent .. Pen up to their usual inconsistency? Has it been business as usual for the Offense?
Where is it 106 BB? Where ya moving to?
I’m in Fresno .. We are on going to Bisbee, AZ
I say I’m room old for the shit .. but I guess not …
Sheesh, talk about going from the frying pan into the fire. Hope it’s cooler in Bisbee. 🙂
Sorry, cannot type worth a damn ..
It’s actually cooler in Bisbee .. 5300ft still not as stratospheric as you Blade.
Actually, I’m at the same altitude BB or to be exact, 5280 feet (mile), so you got me beat. My old mountain home was at around 8500 feet though.
ahhh .. I thought you were still at the old place .. I remember you mentioned it the other day ..Wow! 8500!! That must have been spectacular .. Is that above the tree line?
We will see snow in the Winter there … I might enjoy that … 6’milesmfrom the border … I’m gonna get a job building the “Wall” … But I suppose it won’t pay much since I’ll be paid in pesos (Mexico will be paying for it case you haven’t heard) .. And “it will be Great “
No, you have to get to around 12,000 feet to reach alpine tree line.
Just looked it up. It’s actually around 11500 feet.
Hmm, good to know that, thx Blade! If you don’t mind, what is your synopsis of today’s game?
Synopsis? Dunno . . . Not the person to ask, i.e., multi-tasking here (viewing a documentary, watching the basketball and baseball games, eating, and chatting here).
lulz
No prob … Seems to me like Peavy pitched decently, ran outta gas, the Pen couldn’t help him out .. And the offense was ‘dull normal’ per usual .. 5 hits: a dinger, a sac fly .. I think, I’m in he ball park with that summary?
Btw, Pecos League baseball is something Im really looking forward to .. The Tucson Saguaros play at Warren Stadium – great old ball park – in Bisbee every Sunday through June & July. Our place is 2 blocks from the park. Yes!
Yeah, I checked out the Bisbee Wiki site. Sounds like a fun place, albeit, it is a lot hotter then you think BB. Check out the Climate chart on their Wiki page and let me know what you think.
I remember back in the day when I liked ESPN.
The Andrew Miller trade is looking better and better.
Only three teams have overcome a 2-0 deficit to win the NBA Finals: the 1969 Celtics, the 1977 Trail Blazers and the 2006 Heat. The Cavs are a few minutes away from needing to do just that — and against a team that’s won 87 games this season.
Immediately after those 2 Cardinals doubled i figured it was time for Gearrin. But where was the hook and why Strickland? Gearrin has been proving himself as a fireman. In any event i went off to the other room for dinner and calculated the score would be 5-3 when i returned to the computer.
Not a good sign for the Cavs. This one made game 1 look like a barn-burner. Ran ’em right out of the gym.
At least LeBron will finish with another triple double… at least 10 bricks, 10 complaints to refs, and 10 flops! Wooo!!!!*
* I stole this tweet. 🙂
“Then I raped a chick and paid her off”
lulz….
Double lulz!
Gyorko looks like middle aged accountant competing in a fan home run hitting contest.
I wonder if the Cavs regret firing David Blatt? He took the Warriors to 6 games without Kyrie or Love.
Now, they are halfway to getting swept at full strength. I’m still holding out hope for the Cavs, but tonight’s score has me worried it could be farewell and adieu ladies of Spain…
I think there’s no question that Blatt is the better coach. His conflicts with LeBron are what did him in. Lue looks to be out of his depth.
It is the single strangest thing about the entire Flap community that you hate the W’s. The fact that you still hold out hope almost reads like satire, SD!
I don’t know if “hate” is the right word. “Insanely jealous” I think is more accurate, though I do root strongly for them to lose and basically will not watch the games because it infuriates me to see them succeed.
Worth listening all the way through
Why is Osich still in the majors?
He had a very long streak of getting lefties out. If you want to be charitable, you might reflect on the 4 home runs Smarge gave up in a handful of innings and the concentrated number Strickland gave up at one point.
If I were Osich, I’d get ready to pack some bags for a trip back to Sac. This guy is not getting it done. There’s got to be another lefty in Sac that can come up to take a shot at getting his ass kicked. We’ve seen enough of Osich’s ass getting kicked…
Andrew Miller of NYY must therefore be a LHP.
I watched a good part of the second half of the Warriors’ W at a sports bar, simultaneously seeing the Giants take the lead and then collapse sloppily. Talk about contrasts. By the way, on the ESPN radio coverage, on the drive over (I don’t have a TV), Hubie Brown was all “for the Cavs to win this” and “the Cavs are going to have to do this in the second half.” You’d have thought Cleveland had no opponent. It was a “Cleveland is losing” not a “Golden State was winning” take. Well, the Warriors took care of that.
The talking heads on TV and radio that are “national” generally talk as if the West doesn’t exist. Nothing new. Everything is East centric. The Dubs have been the best team now for 2 seasons, hands down. Still, there is only grudging respect from the East, as if the Dubs are somehow not worthy or cheating or something. Why? because nobody in the East knows them well. LeBron gets on TV all the time back there — he’s so amazing, he must have a good chance to win, even though the Dubs won nearly 20 more games than his team. Same thing when the Giants were winning playoffs. It’s as if they didn’t exist, and apparently still don’t. For some of the media, it’s as if 2010,12, 14 never happened. If the Yankees had done that, we’d be hearing about it incessantly…
FUCK!
Giants were so flat in this series. Time to get out of Dodge.
Blowing another lead is a fitting end to a 5-5 trip that could’ve been so much better. Thank god for a day off tomorrow.
Yeah, some very winnable games were lost. But that is a nonsense thing to say. Every team wins, and loses, some of those. Right, James?
I’ll go with bad karma from Jim Ray Hart…
The Yanks will probably retire Hart’s number before the Giants honor him with a patch.
Well that’s actually possible. Hart wore 43 as Yank. One of the few numbers under 80 that they haven’t retired yet…
Awful 6th inning. Crawford error. Belt “error.” Doubles. It was just a hot mess. It actually could’ve been WORSE. As has been said here many times, Bochy is too loyal to his boy Peavy. Jake’s tank was empty. Then again, looking at the ‘pen, why would we turn to them? Crummy way to end a road trip.
Until yesterday, it had likely been a couple of weeks since the Dogs actually gained any ground on the Giants, so that was a nice run. Now they’ve picked up 2 games in 2 days. Hope they’re not going on a good run, but if the G’s just take care of business, it won’t matter. About Peavy, Bochy might want to lower Jake’s pitch count as a deciding factor of when to remove him. It was fairly low thru 5, I think, as Steve and others pointed out, pitched well thru that point, but he is just not a 100-pitch, 8-inning kinda guy anymore.
Peavy again on ESPN a week from tonight?
You gotta be kidding me! Really? Do they have 2 off days this week??
YUP!
Leaving St. Louis on a loss is disappointing. However, as Mac noted, we were 5-5 on this road trip, which I will take. However, as he also noted, it could have easily been a better trip, especially in Atlanta.
The Giants are leaving St. Louis in worse shape than Nicholas Cage leaving Las Vegas…
SF is a very good, not a great ball club. When you’re playing 750 ball, things are going to start going against you for a while.
LA’s team OPS has been shitty all year long, and they’ve been fortunate to score as much as they have. I hope that no one joins Seager in his surge.
Personally, as I noted earlier today, I thought Peavy would be “road kill” tonight. He actually did better than I thought. Probably predestined (although I’m not a “fate” sort of guy). 🙂
Blade, I’ve been meaning to post this link to you. Lots of good remembrances of Ali yesterday, but this is one of the standouts. This guy’s a legend among NJ sportswriters.
http://www.nj.com/sports/index.ssf/2016/06/former_heavyweight_champ_muhammad_ali_dies_the_gre.html
Thank you Mac . . . Going to view it in a moment. I spent most of the morning and a lot of last night, reading articles about Ali. New York Times had some really good articles and old newspaper stories (interesting looking at the advertisements too). Still hard to believe he is gone . . . Ironically, he sort of died – for me at least – when I found out he had Parkinson’s disease in 1984. I choose to remember him as full of life and himself, prior to his latter fights, where he was becoming a shell of himself. I truly believe he might not have gotten Parkinson’s disease, had he not fought Frazier in Manila and definitely, Holmes and Berbick.
Thanks for the share, Mac. I especially like the picture of Ali and Frazier (1971, I think) before they ever went toe-to-toe.
Here’s how impressive the Warriors played: This might be the first time all season you guys made it through a whole game without bitching about the refs.
Right. Turnovers bugged me but yeah didn’t see anything else to complain about.
I’m sure Cavs fans aren’t too happy about the shot to Love from Barnes going after O board that wasn’t called..
especially if he misses a game or more.
I didn’t see it live but just saw the replay, that wasn’t called a foul? Yikes.
It wasn’t Adams clocking Lvingston in the face with his elbow. It wasn’t even intentional.
Arietta, with 12Ks in 5 innings, cites the .900 BABIP against him today, calling the whole affair “strange.” As much as he’s basically right, it’ll be a sad day when most players truly shrug off what was once considered failure.
Weirdest weather I ever saw was debarking from a plane in St Looie, back when you walked onto the runway and into the terminal. it was 103 and raining.
It’s like that all the time in SE Asia. lulz
No wonder so many of the sweet young thangs down there wear signs reading “Open Sesame”.
Too funny. He’s embarrassed for the NBA because his team sucks hard.

I am disgusted by the Cavs performance tonight but I have not given up on my team whatsoever! We need to toughen up and get these 2 at home.

I can deal with losing a game, or even losing another NBA Finals series but when you don’t show any heart or effort….I can’t respect that.

Out there somewhere, David Blatt is laughing at the horrendous coaching job Tyronn Lue has done thus far this series.

I’m embarrassed for the NBA. Fans across the world deserve more from the highest stage of basketball, the NBA Finals. Absolutely pathetic.
this dipshit has never once given credit to a team for beating Cle. It’s always “not enough effort, hero ball, etc…”
Amusing. The Dubs plaster the Cavs, and that’s embarrassing for the NBA…
Embarrassing for the East . . .
Hey there Blade .. you are correct about the Bisbee AZ weather. It isn’t exactly cool in the Summer even though it is mile high desert. Still, it should be a bit of an improvement over Fresno temperatures which can rival Phoenix for heat. The least favorable part about Fresno is an air quality index that ranks near worst in the nation. Bisbee air is thin but clean.
I’ve been complaining since early in the season about the Giants overall weak offense. I understand this is a grind-it-out type of team but at this point the lack of offense has become a chronic situation exacerbated by the loss of Pence; Belt is the only healthy player that is producing consistently. Most of you have stated that Posey will come around. Maybe you are right, he will. But is it going to be a case of too little, too late?
It seems our potential batting champ 2nd bass man is morphing into a light hitting .270 type of player and the sophomore blues have tethered any similar wild aspirations some of us had for Duffy. Span is just “ok” and Craw is producing about normal for him. The bench is a slight improvement over last year’s but that ain’t saying much. Defense has been excellent for the most part. But it’s not helping any positive situation when we cannot score when given opportunities to do so. Pitching has been stellar. Without that we would be in deep doo doo.
I don’t think trading prospects for more mid level players is a lasting solution to anything. We are overrun with middling offensive players — or at least players that we possibly misjudged to be better than they actually are.
There is still a long season ahead and there aren’t any easy fixes. Maybe we simply need more time for our guys to get their bats going. Yet, with our lead atop the division slowly eroding, time may not be our friend.
I’m happy to have the cushion we have but feeling frustrated watching this constant parade of winnable games being tossed on to the pile of defeats. Wish I had a solution but I don’t have anything to offer other than “watch and see”.
Lisle, I’ll take the other side of the coin approach.
The Giants as is have won 35 games–only team in all of baseball with more Ws would be Cubs.
Top end of rotation is very good and I can tolerate back end.
Defense has also been very good tho it let them down last night.
Belt is much improved at cutting down the Ks. Posey is an AS so is Crawford and I like Span.
Bench being much improved will be a big help as team deals with injuries.
Hope pen issues sort themselves out once Romo returns.
Still think this team is class of division over LA…win the division and then ride SPs in short playoffs.
Hey, after game walked into local whole foods ($20 limit always) and heard Wilson Pickett version of Rodger Collins “She’s Looking Good” which I have on vinyl somewhere. Great Muscle shoals horns, Tommy Cogbill and Roger Hawkins on bass and drums.
And yeah there were some examples of what makes America great in cutoff denim shorts. The wicked man screaming over the horns on the out chorus and some fine gals, doesn’t get much better than that.
Doesn’t get much better than the Wicked Mr. Pickett! Oh, and anything Muscle Shoals is “uptight and outta sight” in MHO.
I’m not sensing you are so much on the “other side”. I’m just saying the offense is what it is … weak. Sure, Posey was an AS but you cannot seriously tell me his production so far earns him that honor this year. Craw gives us consistently spectacular defense and he is one of the rare players that could deserve to be an AS on that alone. Panic & Duffy, such magnificent contributors over the past two seasons, are hitting below expectations. I too am ok with Span. Yet, in the climate of this offense we are going to need a bit more from the SP and BP. Can the SP really give any more? The BP is what it is and nobody special is waiting in the wings it seems.
When all the pitchers are playing from a pressure situation where they know they cannot make one tiny mistake because they won’t get any support from the bats … Well, that will wear anyone out quickly and thoroughly.
