A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Must See TV

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 10, 2016

I’m not sure if you could put together a bigger sports evening if you could hand picked the events. OBD take on the Cav’s in Game 4. In light of their utter dismantling in Game 3 this now becomes an extremely interesting game.

If you somehow aren’t interested in that you can glue your attention to Giants/Dodgers and Kershaw.

It doesn’t get any better.

Rounds 3-10 of the draft today are not televised. There’s only 1 minute between each pick. That’s pretty wild.
The Giants snagged Belt with a 5th round pick.

Watching the Ali funeral procession while I work. Everyone keeps throwing flowers on the hood and windshield of the hearse, there is now just a small open space, for the driver to see in front of him. You know he wants to turn on the wipers but that would be too disrespectful. Man, what a quagmire!

This is a carry-over from the end of the last thread. There are a few Flappers who are pessimistic about Pence returning in the estimated eight weeks, with some saying they will be surprised if he is back by September and some saying that he may not play again this year.

I disagree, and offer you a wager of one adult beverage of choice. I say Pence is back before August 25th.

Love nights like this with multiple games going on. There was a day within the last few weeks where the Giants, Sharks, and Warriors all had games on the same day. My remote was getting quite the workout that night!

I will be bouncing between the two games. Should be fun!

    Go Giants! Go Warriors!

And man would I love to be at the Shark Tank on Sunday…unfortunately it is just not in the cards…saving my coin for Blade’s and my trip to Boston/NYC…it may be a bit costly keeping Loo in adult beverages! 😉

Grant Bisbee writes some good pieces over there but the comments are lame. This place has a much better mix of insightful, relevant observations with a good mix of humor thrown in. Really, what more can you ask for?

I didn’t read any of the comments, but I was getting a kick out of how the “experts” differed on where Reynolds would go in the draft.

      • wilcojoe's avatar wilcojoe said, on June 10, 2016 at 11:07 am

Yeah it was nice to see a consensus that he was likely a first round pick. Sounds like some teams were afraid of the sign abilty issue but that has never been a problem for the Giants.

      • Locojuan's avatar Bozo said, on June 10, 2016 at 12:05 pm

Good call Wilco, yeah the Giants do seem to know a guy will sign with them before they make that pick.

Agree with Wilco re: this blog vs. just about anything else sports-related out there. We have a very good mix here. James with the stats. In 15 starts at AT&T, Kershaw has allowed 17 total runs. He has only allowed more than 2 runs at AT&T, one time, when he allowed 4 runs in a game last year.
I don’t have the numbers handy, but I think his W/L record career-wise is only about .500, overall, against the Giants.

How about Marichal at Candlestick vs. Dodgers?
I copied this off something but it’s accurate:

In Los Angeles, the Dodgers won a respectable 14 of 30 decisions against the high-kicking righty. 400 miles up the coast, it was another story. From 1961 to 1973, Marichal faced the men in blue caps a total of 31 times on the Giants’ windswept turf (30 as a starter plus one relief appearance). Towards the end of his illustrious career, when injuries began to take their toll on his six-foot frame, the Dodgers got the best of the future Hall of Famer. In their last four encounters in San Francisco, Los Angeles defeated Marichal three times.

Before those losses, however, Marichal owned the Giants’ arch-rivals in a way that defies belief. When the native of Laguna Verde, the Dominican Republic, blanked them in May 1971, the 1-0 victory ran his home record against Los Angeles to 21 and 1.

Will attend the regular Sunday Tucson Saguaros (Pecos League) game on at historic Warren Ballpark, two blocks from my house.

Warren Ballpark opened in June of 1909. In November 1913, the Chicago White Sox & NY Giants played there as part of an international tour to promote interest in baseball. Purportedly, the game featured future HOFs Tris Speaker, Sam Crawford, Ray Schalk, John McGraw and Red Faber. Also participating was 1912 Olympian, Jim Thorpe.

The now defunkt Bisbee Bees was, at various times, the farm club for the Cubs, Angels & Yankees. Billy Martin played many times at Warren when he played for the Phoenix Senators in 1947.

I’m doing a slow burn about Tommy Joseph. Sort of.

I know we got Hunter Pence – who’s been invaluable – for him, Seth Rosin (who?) and Nate Schierholtz, but the dude is doing a fairly good impression of Adam Duvall (another one that got away). What’s really amazing is that he only has a part time gig with the Phils. Imbecile manager and/or the GM keeps trotting out Ryan Howard, who you could have put a fork in . . . umm, let’s say 5 years ago. Anywho, he just went yard against Strasberg.

Joseph was our #2 ranked prospect at the time he was traded. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHO OUR NUMERO UNO PROSPECT WAS?*

*An outfielder no doubt . . . Maybe we could have traded his dufus ass to the Phils. 🙂

When I was at the game the other day, I stopped by the first level to see again the permanent trophy and ring display. All that beautiful shining hardware makes all the trades worth it. 🙂 Even the ones that don’t work out as well, like Wheeler and Duvall. The Giants are really going for it on a yearly basis, while this great window of opportunity is open, and there’s going to be some good prospects that get dealt once in a while, even this year maybe.

The way the team has been hitting them, and he’s been hot, up by 10…why not…

  56. chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on June 10, 2016 at 8:43 pm

It is good to hear this tv crew give credit to the Warriors for their lock-down D in the 4th. They have been so damned biased all night…especially when the game was close.

Fuck you Lebron . . . Slo ass MOFO. Play the game right fucker.

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on June 10, 2016 at 8:47 pm

No shit, Blade. I lost a lot of respect for James tonight. He can go fuck himself.

      • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on June 10, 2016 at 8:49 pm

James must have 50 lbs. on Curry . . . No reason for that type of hard contact shit. Someone is going to get hurt.

I see that OBD has made more 3’s than 2’s in this game.
    Is that common?

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on June 10, 2016 at 8:50 pm

Nope. They shot like 10% better from three tonight than from two.

The game was decided mainly by the Warrior D in the 4th. Cavs went without a point for like six minutes. That and the Warriors unconscious 3 point shooting…

  62. gianthead's avatar gianthead said, on June 10, 2016 at 8:53 pm

I actually don’t think the Warriors played very well…shows how poorly the Cavs played. This series is over..

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on June 10, 2016 at 8:55 pm

What? You fucking kidding me? They played killer D and that won the game. And the Warriors killed them with a record setting number of threes and making all the free throws at the end.

What this game illustrated is that Golden State is just the superior team. The true finals were the Warriors and OKC.

Now, they can kick their *%&$@ ass at Oracle. Hope they humiliate them. Still steamed about that inbound play where Lebron mugged Curry.

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on June 10, 2016 at 8:57 pm

James is a fucking thug. And I liked that neither Green or Curry backed down from him. I am with you…I would love to see the Warriors whoop their asses by 30+.

Nice. I heard them mention his stats at the beginning of the game. Something like 116 Ks on the year, and only like six walks! Just unworldly K/BB ratio.

Parker is superior as a defensive OFer compared to Mac. I cringe on almost every ball hit Willamson’s way.
