Phuck the Phillies
Well, they lost that game.
It is unacceptable to score 2 runs for Bum in two straight starts. And they were lucky to get those 2….
Nola is actually a decent pitcher so the Giants hitters need to show up today.
Unlike the last 2 games where they were MIA.
No. More. Blanco.
Give the man a rest. He needs a rest……
Plus, it’s Sunday where run totals go to die. I’m telling you, if you want to make a lot of $$$ bet the under on every Sun across MLB. Over time and after withstanding some variance, you’ll clean up……
Were the Giants actually bored with winning all the time? Seeking to develop more drama? Bochy has, indeed, fallen into his old personal trap of playing the veterans at the expense of younger players who may represent the future for this team and have been winning their chops lately.
Flapper analysts are almost in perfect accord of doubting on regularly playing both Blanco and Span and wondering why at least one of the Parker/Williamson prospects are not seeing daily starting assignments. Something’s gotta give. If we can see this can’t management and upper management also reason out the obvious? They are paid to do that.
Said it before over a period now extending out for several years: Seriously hoping that somebody in the front office has the sense to assign one of their up and coming staffers to regularly monitor fan blogs for depth insights into what the base is thinking about the team and the way it’s run. Big Flavor’s blog is laden with up to the minute insights from the perspective of the most committed Giants fans on planet earth. If the front office does not avail themselves of this free sounding board they are, in the inimitable usage of Twinfan, “stoopid”.
I’ve often wondered if the FO are aware of what is discussed here and if they ever monitor this blog. Somehow, I think not.
Willedav pointed out at the end of yesterday’s post 2 salient points:
1. It was Bum that coughed up the lead.
2. Panik killed the rally with his base running gaffe. (If it had been Belt we would have been all over him)
Good points but …
When the offense is so constipated that we cannot recover from an occasional error here & there it points to a bigger issue: our bats suck! I’ve been saying it all year. And Panik doesn’t often make that kind of mistake; Belt does.
We’ve been winning. We’ve been winning a lot. Is all this winning just smoke & mirrors? Is the lack of production from key elements, at key times, eventually going to come back and bite us in the ass? Or, do we have enough of a cushion now to ride out our offensive ineptitude and get to the post season where we know miracles can happen?
This team perplexes me. I am happy with where we are at but I’m not overly confident about where we are heading.
There was a bit of role reversal in the 8th, Belt failing to move the runner over from second and Panik screwing up on the bases. It’s usually the other way around.
I’m not buying SP angst over how many runs they get, something completely out of their control.
What’s in control is what you do, and Bum had a 2 run lead and pissed it away. Bum had a chance to snag the one hopper up the middle that drove in first run and would have kept that hitter off the bases. He whiffed on it and it turned into a seeing eye hit then gave up the no doubt bomb that cost him.
Team game, and when you lose everyone could have done more. But Panik made a crucial error taking off from 2b at important time on the bases. Very little mention of that on blog here; Belt gets full ration when he screws up , Panik seems immune to it.
I listened to first inning Friday, and Span got on (all too rare admittedly) and Panik immediately lifted harmless pop fly to LF instead of advancing the runner into scoring position, his job in 2 hole.
Yes Flav, less runs scored today very likely over all. But this is a day game and it’s still pretty warm here, ball should carry much better than normal
lot of back spin today
1. Denard Span (L) CF
2. Angel Pagan (S) LF
3. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
4. Buster Posey (R) C
5. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
6. Jarrett Parker (L) RF
7. Ramiro Pena (S) 2B
8. Conor Gillaspie (L) 3B
9. Johnny Cueto (R) P
I think it was Dirty that complained to Randy Johnson that they didn’t get a whole lot of run support and Johnson told him something like, I guess we have to pitch better.
Yes it’s true, we won’t win all our games this year and the team made some mistakes yesterday. And I bet we lose a few more going forward, probably by making a few more mistakes.
But, the last I looked we were 48-28, 9 games over .500 at home and 11 over in away games. That .632 winning percentage is the third best in all of baseball. But yeah, if only the baseball people for the team would read fan blogs, the Giants would be doing so much better. I wonder if Atlanta and Cinci fans would like to trade places with us? That’s probably what their blogs are saying.
Tough crowd after a loss.
Team hierarchy could easily come up with one of those unpaid intern flunkies to read the fan blogs. Some corporations and such pay out big money to focus groups. On the Flap they could get it for freebies all around the basepaths. Such a deal. Such a deal. Baer should appreciate such a deal.
Stix, I think focus groups are fine for product development and sales (the Giants have used a form of focus groups or fan opinion in the past for their hot dog brand, public address announcer, hell, the ballpark itself during planning and construction). But in my opinion, baseball decisions are best left to our proven team of GM(s), Assistant GMs, GM Advisers, Coaches, Scouts, Financial Analysts, Statistical Analysts etc… No offense intended, but I’m pretty sure they’re well aware of Blanco’s stats, I’m also pretty sure that Jay Bruce was discussed by them before he came up here and probably pretty much any change/trade that we, and other fans have bounced around.
As an example, if they had listened to most of us back in 2010, Edgar Renteria wouldn’t have been around to hit the greatest home run in the San Francisco era. That’s how I look at it anyway.
and Peavy would already have his gold watch. Fact is he’s been better recently than Smardz who is owed a hella more $$$.
Maybe Renteria wouldn’t have hit it, but Willy Mo Pena or Mike Lamb might’ve…
Nice one
I have not seen this talked about here or I missed it, but there is an article in the sac Bee about baseball and the shift. How do you all feel about this? Yankee manager wants it illegal and Oslo does Muelens.
http://www.sacbee.com/sports/mlb/article86023242.html
I’d give this shift bizness about 5 years to see how it plays out. I’m not for making stuff illegal in baseball unless it goes against the spirit of the game. There’s still 8 guys out there on defense in front of the catcher, and they can play wherever they want (yeah, the pitcher needs to position himself after throwing). Part of the fun of baseball is beating the other team’s attempts at defending you, whether it’s beating the pitcher, beating the throw to second on a steal, or dropping a bunt on a 3rd baseman laying back, like Zito did in St. Louis in the NLCS. For now, I think it’s up to the batter to be good enough and creative enough to hit it the other way to beat the shift when the situation warrants. I think a lot of the refusal of hitters to adjust is ego, and laziness. They don’t want to practice the ability to just block a pitch into the oppo part of the field. I don’t think it should be that hard. If somebody wanted to give me a gift double every time, I’d start figuring a way to take one once in a while…
make the shift illegal? What a joke.
Just doing the math on yesterday games, 155 runs scored in mlb with 42 HRs hit including one by SD SP Pomeranz (in cincy).
I often add up both of these for fun, and both totals are unusually high.
Jose Fernandez is fun to watch, shutting down Cubs so far after 7 2-1. Man, lot of Cubs fans in Miami tho.
Span might need a day or two….
“Span might need a WEEK or two….”
Fixed.
Fuck Bochy, sit this boob down!
Tied up, come on Parker.
Pena could be the new Scutaro. It’s not impossible.
Nobody thought the old Scutaro would be the new Scutaro…
eh, unlikely. And Scoots had accomplishment a lot more than Ramiro before he got here. Scoots is still on the 60 day DL. I find that a little funny…..
Yeah, Scoots had a solid career prior to becoming a Giant.
I’ll be a monkey’s uncle, Span got on…
First you’ll have to marry a monkey’s aunt.
I normally hate weddings, but I’d go to that one…
Hank Greenwald autobio a good read. First heard him doing warriors game with King, classic.
He was Cuse when Jim Brown was there, worked for Giants Yanks others, did a lot of traveling after leaving the industry…interesting guy. Larry Baer not one of his fav former employers either.
Yeah baby.
Buster Frozey…
Posey has got to score there, KELLY!
Bad base running/third base coaching there.
Yes Parker!
Nice smart AB by Parker. Just get ‘im in.
Pain-ya…
wow this guy has no idea where the ball is going.
0-2 on Pena he put one right in the middle of the plate. Now he beans him a foot inside.
Even that curve he gets the strike on is right over middle and up.
Now he beans Gillaspie wtf?
Stomp…
For a second there I thought you were talking about Span…
If he hits Cueto, it’s gotta be brawl time…
Another winning at bat by our hero.
Good for Cueto!
yes but I think ump rattled him. Still looked pissed when he came off the mound.
Looks like he’s got focus back. Chump Phils hitters shouldn’t be pitched around.
add this stupid poem reading shit to the shit I dislike about K/K
This game has bench clearing potential (BCP)…
That pitch to Franco was off the plate a bit.
Cueto was giving that ump the stank eye big time.
I think I’d call it a day for Cueto (if I were Bochy)
Anything close to Cueto should empty the benches…
you’re ready to go, baby!
Our two aces have given up 8 runs in 11 1/3 innings to the shittiest offense in the NL.
Dumb question: what do they do with the salad in that garden? Do they use it for stadium hamburgers? Give it away to Sisters of the Poor? Where does it go when it’s ready to pick?
The health conscious seagulls eat it…
That’s the stuff that food eats. Maybe they have some cows in the players parking lot.
I read where the food joints at the stadium use it, now that usher they just showed, looked like he was using the lettuce for a urinal.
GIants need to chill out about this ump. Barking at him is just pissing him off….
Alright Manbun.
Oops, that wasn’t meant as a reply to your post, Flav.
Attaway Craw!
Reading the children’s book is a great example of how K&K might do something annoying to hardcore fans, but markets the team and the sport across demographics, especially women. Growing the fan-base.
I’m with Loo. This game is going on too long. I’m ready for a brawl……
Crap.
Cueto had a whole lot of nothing today.
Once again Boch waited too long…..
This is looking like another six-pitcher game.
Why exactly did he send Cueto out to start this inning…Sundays also good days for fantasy starting pitchers, unless you have Cueto like I do…
Jaws, gets her done.
Alright bull pen, make this hold up.
Attaway Angel!
He should’ve been in standing at third.
Then again if he busted it all the way, he would’ve tore a hammy…
No, Bruce, please don’t put Pagan at lead off. Hr can, you know, hit and everything.
I go for a walk and it’s 5-1, then come back to 6-6. WTF.
I know LJ … stooopid, uh? Against the Phuckin Phillies yet!
I guess Cueto imploded.
Unbelievable.
Gives it right back, fuck.
Oshit .. he had one good game last week .. cant believe his era isnt higher than 4.30
I could eat dinner and take a shit waiting for Osich to throw a pitch…
Another boneheaded base running gaffe. Is Kelly teaching base running with his stellar base coaching experience_?
Let’s get a win before the ESPN Kershaw love-fest starts at 5:00.
Idiot!
I take you mean Pena? lol
Yes, LJ – for admiring his 300 foot pop-up…
Johnny Drama-tic!!!
Attaway Conor!
You mean “Cole” …dont you?
He’s on the Marlins.
Yes, but the Phillies announcers have been calling Conor, “Cole” for the past 3 games .. Fucking dummies! I can see one game, but by the third, come on!
Mr. Happy picks up Pena’s baserunning gaffe!
Did he smile when they beat the shit outta him after walk off?
No. That ain’t happening.
I saw a small grin when he shook Casilla’s hand. That’s about as much as you’re going to get I think.
Thank, Phucking, you, Gillaspie.
Eight is enough.
Amy G’s having a good rack day…
She got a slight smile from him at the end.
That’s good, she was looking a little haggard the past few days.
“That was time not well spent” — that was a pretty good line by Kruk.
Yes!
Yep. Who does Pena think he is? lol
Other good news … final score Tucson Saguaros 8, Trinidad Triggers 5
I love minor league ball! That’s good you have a team in the vicinity. Best sports deal in town and fun.
Jose Reyes comes to Brooklyn this week…
The Dodger/Pirate game might be the biggest pitching mis-match in MLB history. Kershaw vs. a guy making his first major league start.
Gillaspie did a nice job on that hard inside pitch, pulled his hands in and squared it up. A win is a win, boys!
Somehow he still looks sad.
Lulz!
Cracking a frosty Snow Cap for this one.
Fuck, the Cards hit 6 HR’s against the Mariners today.
For a shit team, the Phillies made this a difficult series.
good thing that was a walk off cause if it wasn’t you know the Phillies woulda scored in the top of the next inning.
As impressed as I am with what Kershaw is doing this year I don’t understand the CONSTANT attention ESPN is giving this dude tonight. We get it, he’s good. But there are spending literally the entire game talking about him, lol.
Well, he’s getting roughed up tonight so that should ease your pain. It’s sure easing mine.
More evidence that Puig is an idiot, he tried to dupe the runners on Freeze’s hit, by acting like he had a bead on it. There were 2 outs, dipshit, no one is looking you, they’re gone at the crack of the bat. Mr Situational Baseball himself.
That’s hilarious LJ!
Minor league ball literally 2 tiny blocks from my house! I think I’ve died and gone to heaven, I tell ya!
Getting some dirt on this whole Pecos League thing. I’ll try to put something up about it in the next week or so when I do more investigative work and gather some quality info. But so far, in a nut, what I’ve heard is that real cheapskates they are. Players are chasing the dream and paying dearly for it; sometimes literally. Pay is $50 per week, sleeping two to a bed on the road. Bisbee community is not very supportive because they’ve had bad dealings with the league and many here, although sympathetic to the players, feel the League is just a bunch of money grubbers. More to come …
$50 a week? You sure you heard that right?
I know, I know!!! … Fifty count ’em $ … actually, that particular tidbit was something I read online somewhere but cannot recall where at present (another senior moment). I’ll try to find it again … but it was confirmed in a conversation I had the other day with a local guy who is a former League rep. He told me some players actually “pay to play” … some are being financed by their parents.
is it an independent league? How do these players enter mlb farm systems?
It’s an independent league.
They’d have to be scouted by an MLB organization. That’s the dream of all of them.
From my understanding so far, yes, it is an independent league. I’m not sure how it all works but I’m told that the games are scouted. Ive been looking over the rosters and I see a few players with affiliations to Major League teams. What that means exactly, I don’t know yet. The rosters will the list player’s name, place/date of birth (decent amount of Latin players) college, university, high school etc., and a few times, a MLB team.
Kershaw having one of the best seasons in baseball history. Going into today his WHIP ( walks + hits divided by innings pitched) is 0 .670. Yes .67
Pedro Martinez in 2000 is all-time best at .737
All others in top 10 were in 19th century except Christ Mathewson at 10th best at .838
Crazy!!!
Zumiee, besides being the gif-Lord of the blog you are also the Dodger blog monitor and I haven’t seen any good cut and paste jobs from that lately. Did they just all give up or are you not keeping up with them as regularly?
Yeah, a lot of give-up is being posted at the Dodger blogs. They’re hoping for a Wild Card at this point. I’ll look for some good quotes.
The best thing about the ESPN games is the strike zone graphic they superimpose (I know some think it’s lame). The umpire who tossed McCutcheon looked like an incompetent fool while pretending he’s God.
Man, Clinton Hurdle likes his gum a lot.
Clint, I meant.
