A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Game Time Thread and…..Kruk Sighting

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 10, 2016

So, as you know I am in Reno. No poker today, it’s my buddy’s daughter’s 16th bday so we are doing a big bbq lunch thing. Only problem was…..propane tank doinked out on us. Dave said he’d just run down the hill to fill it. I asked if he wanted me to go just to be nice. Of course he said “no.” Now I’m bummed I didn’t go. Look who he ran into at the store. They had a good laugh about the woman who had her beers/food blown up by that ball……

Kruk told Dave they howled about it in the booth for another full inning and that they couldn’t stop watching it. Said they gave her a ball and coupons for food.

Dave said he was super nice, very cool to talk to, He’s a big Kruk fan tho so maybe he’s exaggerating. 🙂 Also, said he walks with a cane but I think you all know that.
Kruk didn’t take long getting back to Reno, did he?

Some great posts in the last thread going into detail about how what the Giants are doing isn’t smoke and mirrors.
Plus the return of Romo this week was a boost. If he can stay healthy, he will help stabilize the 8th inning.

I would have gone Parker instead of Blanco, but hey, that’s just me.

    CF Denard Span (L)
    LF Angel Pagan (S)
    1B Brandon Belt (L)
    C Buster Posey (R)
    SS B. Crawford (L)
    3B Conor Gillaspie (L)
    RF Gregor Blanco (L)
    2B Ramiro Pena (S)
    P M. Bumgarner (R)

Reno always has something going on all summer,Hot August Nights, Hot Air Ballons Races, Air Show Races, Italian Festival, and my favorite Rib cook off at the Nugget on Labor Day weekend, when all the country hicks from Tennessee,Georgia,Kansas,Texas,Mississippi,Oklahoma, pretty much all states, show off their bitchin grilling techniques, excellent sauces, a must buy !!
Yeah Kruk is on the supposed wink wink “Special Assignment” all the broadcasters get to recharge their batteries for the 2nd half. I believe Kuip’s got on coming up as well.. Good for Kruk wouldn’t be surprised if he goes to an Aces game if their at home..
I first noticed Kruk’s Cain 2 years ago after a Father’s Day game we lost dammit it as I was walking out the concourse and looked down to my left and noticed him in the players parking lot walking slow with his Cain, a few fans including me yelled out Kruk and he looked up and gave us a wave, pretty cool, after a tough loss..

Lincecum gave up 3 ERs in 5 2/3 today, so not terrible. His record is now 1-3, with an ERA of 6.85, though.

Or, something to do with his health?…

Reno has a lot to offer as long as you aren’t a degenerate loser. Big outdoor music scene I know he’s into. Probably other shit. It’s also possible he’s got a kid or two at Nevada U

i was in Reno a few times in the early ’90’s. Thought it was a sad version of LV.
Is it more built up now?
I remember being a little concerned that the plane wasn’t climbing fast enough to clear some mountain by the airport when we were flying back to LA…

      • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on July 10, 2016 at 6:38 pm

i wouldn’t call it built up, It’s pretty much the same downtown anyway. But the real estate has definitely built way up and out all over Reno. That was actually one of the major problems with the industries here once the housing market went to shit. But Reno is a lot more than downtown gambling. You can do anything here. And Tahoe is like 30 mins away. There are a lot of degenerate losers here, tons of hookers downtown at night and even at 8am wandering around. But this place is legit for normal shit, I’m telling ya. Dirt should be able to verify if he even reads this…….

My wife met Kruk way back when he just started broadcasting. I think Craig was coaching the team. Said he was pretty arrogant. I’d like to think he’s mellowed.

  17. zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on July 10, 2016 at 4:56 pm

The players are wearing the Padre retro unis during the homerun-hitting contest. Which raises the question- are all of the players required to show up for that?

    • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on July 10, 2016 at 5:01 pm

During the All-Star game, same as usual, players wear their own team’s unis. The AL team is actually the home team this year. Last year’s All-Star game was at an NL ballpark also.

Caught some of the Wrap after the game on radio. Kuip wasn’t there and the others were making fun of Miller who must have been doing kuip impressions that seemed to involve food.
One of them gave player of game to Craw for all his plays in the field. Consensus was he’s not only mvp of the team so far but maybe NL too for his steadiness in the field and clutch hitting.

Whoever came up with the 2016 uni concept for AZ should be canned. Of all the funky unis in baseball history, I think these and the other variations they wear are the worst. • Lurker John's avatar Lurker John said, on July 10, 2016 at 6:35 pm

      • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on July 10, 2016 at 6:39 pm

Disagree with the error call (my take) . . . Fairly obvious to me the sun caused him to miss a ball he catches 99 out of 100 times. He actually overran it a bit trying to locate it in the sun.

      • Lurker John's avatar Lurker John said, on July 10, 2016 at 6:42 pm

Home town scoring with your ace in line for the you know what.

The only reason I think it was less the sun than not slowing for ball was that you couldn’t see the sun glinting off his glasses. When the ball is crossing right into the sun you’ll see the sun itself reflecting off the lens as the OF tracks the ball.

I believe Krukow’s disorder will eventually put him in a wheelchair and maybe this health reality made him friendlier…I think most athletes/former athletes are pretty offstandish in general. I chalk it up to they think everyone wants something from them and blow most people off. Why I don’t typically give a crap about autographs and why taking the kids to AA Richmond games are a blast for the kids to see these young ball players unjaded by fame or semi-fame.

Politicians are a whole lot more fun because they unlike athletes want to glad hand and get attention:)

lol, don’t know. But his thing is fucking everyone who cares by paying whatever the stubhub price is for a seat behind home plate or whatever the camera spot is. And he makes a point to be on his ph all the time continuing the “fuck you.”. He’s a trippy dude. And you can’t move him if he’s not doing anything wrong. I know it’s happened before at D-Back stadium (I think) but if you moved Marlin Man he would sue the fucking shit out of the team and win.

Very true. He’s probably banking on that very thing to happen so he can pay off his ever increasing debt.

I don’t give a shit how much money he makes, these tickets, not to mention travel, is costing him some serious coin. I think I remember hearing that he was doing this to increase his exposure to attract more clients. If he needs to do this to get clients, than cash flow might be a bit of a problem to begin with.

We gotta start getting some of these guys in. Span, Gillaspie, you have to get hits.

    • bassbaldy's avatar bassbaldy said, on July 10, 2016 at 7:02 pm

It’s been going like that way too long … Span has been at it all year. Pie is relatively new to it, has given us a couple of big hits but seems to be back in his old groove. Some others, were mostly pathetic too but they are no longer with us (DL) … One in particular, who has been there since the outset has just not been that good with risp … better I not mention a name or rip on his lack of risp production. But I will admit he has been better overall this past month, and I can only hope he keeps it up.

      • Lurker John's avatar Lurker John said, on July 10, 2016 at 7:16 pm

He had a big knock tonight and he’s been hot of late.

We’re not going to have to worry about 2 of the 3 scrub infielders when Panik and Duffy get back. Gillaspie is shaky with the fielding sometimes, especially the throws. Between Tejada and Pena I don’t know. Pena is a pretty good hitter, while Tejada is probably the better fielder, though I wouldn’t swear to it.

Boch didn’t waste any time yanking Gillaspie.

Bochy would let Bum go to 140+ tonight if he had to. He’s got extra days off before his next start.

      • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on July 10, 2016 at 7:17 pm

i thought he was getting 5 full days off. Well, either way, Bochy doesn’t really give a shit about PC so he can go as long as he needs to if he needs to do that.

  56. Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on July 10, 2016 at 7:03 pm

I’d do anything to get that bat. I love broken bats. If I was more motivated I’d start collecting them and let my daughter turn them into some rad art creation. I still have Twin’s bat (Scott McClain’s) taped up so I can swing it at work in my office when I need to do some solid thinking. I taped the shit out of that thing so there’d be no question when I swung it.
Still want to give Twin’s bat to Snarkk if we can connect again…….
But yeah, if I was gonna collect anything, be a collector of anything, it would be mlb broken bats……

  57. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John said, on July 10, 2016 at 7:08 pm

Back in the 70’s a buddy of mine got a broken bat from George Scott at an A’s game. In addition to being huge, to a 15 year old it was the coolest thing ever. It was cracked, but still intact and had pine tar all over it. Very cool.

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on July 10, 2016 at 7:10 pm

that’s awesome. Those are the bats I’d collect. I don’t have the drive to become a collector but that would be the thing I’d collect if I ever became one…..

      • Lurker John's avatar Lurker John said, on July 10, 2016 at 7:11 pm

It’d be an unique collection too.

    • Lurker John's avatar Lurker John said, on July 10, 2016 at 7:20 pm

They said before the game that the pen has blown four games in which he left the game with the lead.

I bet the under of this game hard (as I said earlier today I would do) so I just want these Giant hitters to fiddle-de-do for outs and move this game along……

Ironically just saying Dirty Sanchez threw his no- hitter 7 years ago today. He was also screwed by an error from Uribe from perfection..

    • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on July 10, 2016 at 7:25 pm

  67. Carstie Clausen's avatar Carstie Clausen said, on July 10, 2016 at 7:30 pm

You want a daddy to drive them in. Call Craw. In front of that national audience there are at least two prime examples of All-Star snubbing getting tossed right back in the face of MLB. Personally, i think that multiple voting by any individual fan for the ASG sucks shit. That’s why i voted exactly once ~ for Belt in the special selection. Addison Russell? I mean really.

As long as Baer is standing, maybe he should stroll up to his office and give Bum a new $100 million contract for the next 5 years replacing the one in effect. It’s still a bargain…

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on July 10, 2016 at 7:53 pm

Bum should fire his agent and hire you Loo. For at least the last 3 years, you’ve been vocal about this, while his agent has been whacking his baloney money and probably trying to get Bum to invest in corn, wheat, and hog futures.

So the first 3 WS the Giants were extreme underdogs, this years team is very very good is this beacause the veterans were the rookies back in 2010 and they know what they are doing or are we going to see a face plant in the playoffs or the 2016 WS? Not very likely a face plant but still gotta throw it out there. I am not too worried about this team, it is almost like they are on cruise control, just getting the job done.

    • Lurker John's avatar Lurker John said, on July 10, 2016 at 7:41 pm

It’s hard to imagine a Bochy-led team face planting in the playoffs. But that’s way down the road.

      • bassbaldy's avatar bassbaldy said, on July 10, 2016 at 7:48 pm

So far, it is a very strange, weird & wonderful year, that is for sure … I have no idea how this is all going to play out … who knows, we could get everyone back including Cain — who could be amazing — and we could end up playing worse than with The RiverCat squad … Baseball is an unusual game.

  74. bassbaldy's avatar bassbaldy said, on July 10, 2016 at 7:37 pm

Boch better let Bum finish this gem … I tell ya, if the pen comes in and somehow blows this, I’m jumping in the car and driving to the Bay to lead a freakin general riot!

  75. Carstie Clausen's avatar Carstie Clausen said, on July 10, 2016 at 7:43 pm

One knock in 8 full is not bad pitching. Dude is plenty hungry for his 10th win and has once again strutted his stuff before a national audience. When it comes to the Rotation, Giants got them one hulluva one-two punch.
