A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

The Day You Woke Up and The Flap Had Taken Over The Country

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 20, 2016

I haven’t worried about the offense a single time this season but the raw erosion of our position players has finally started to set off wailing alarms at Flavor Industries. Belt has sunk back into one of his “can’t hit the fattest of pitches” modes. He’s 0-16 since the re-start. And I’m sorry, but when your line up ends “Parker…Gillaspe…Williamson…..Pena” and the mid-game replacements are Green and Blanco…..that is a spring training line up, at best. And I don’t know what Green was doing out there. It’s like he was on the field just for the jokes. They should have cued up the Benny Hill theme song every time he got some screen time…..

Speaking for everyone when I say we are LOVING all these east coast Flap updates. Keep ’em coming. I’m not going to post pics because a lot of them are coming in but I will at some point. Let me see if I have this straight: Chi and Blade are staying together (TWO (2!) separate beds!!!!) in Boston. They met up with GiantHead (and son) for a pre-game beer (epic synopsis of the trip on last thread, GH). San Dawg is in NY with his son wandering around a park and staying at the YMCA (please take a pic of that room). UncaChuck didn’t go because of a shady contractor and is posting (sloppily) from BART. Chi, Blade and San Dawg (and son) plan on meeting up with MacDog, Pawlie and Loo and some point during the NY series.

Do I have all that straight? Correct me in the comment section if I missed someone….

I forgot one good story. As we were waiting for Chia Blade on a street corner on Newbury Street in front of a bar for our designated meeting place around 4 pm, I see a couple of Giant fans wearing identical gray road unis acroas the street and they look like they are stumbling around looking for someone.

One sort of looked like Chi’s size but I was not sure I had ever seen a Blade picture. The other guy was bigger more my size. So I walk up and ask, “Steve???” and he responds, “Yeah.” I then look at the other guy and ask, “Chuck????” The shorter guy then responds no and I’m like oh what the fuck. The bigger guy is looking at me quizzically and then goes, “Who the hell are you???”

So I told them the whole story and we all had a good laugh. Told them about Chi’s Bum encounter and they were flabbergasted as well. Apparently they were two brothers from around Sonoma. They actually seemed like Flap material real Giant fans. I told them also all about the Flap and why we were looking for a Steve and Chuck…let’s see if they can remember the blog name. I said it was a blog for real Giant fans…

that’s funny. Pawlie seeks out random Giants fans on the street like an ol’ gold mining prospector. This is absolutely something he would have done except he wouldn’t have been looking for anyone the way you were. 🙂 It would have just been his normal opening line to conversing with a fellow Giants fan.

These stories are great. I especially loved GH’s description of the bandwagon Giants fans that seem to come out of the woodwork everywhere they play. So true….The old lady with the salty language was classic. Nice job GH!…I had to do a double take when I read that Sandawg and his son stayed at a YMCA in NYC. Did he at least get in on a pickup bball game?

Chi leaving us clicking every five minutes to find out more about his Bum encounter, is just cruel though.

I was just looking back at Ramirez’s stats and he was a great add in 2010. I don’t really follow the league close enough to make a suggestion. MLBTR is putting forth Philly’s Jeanmar Gomez and David Hernandez and Milwaukee’s Will Smith and Jeremy Jeffress. I can only assume they’re also on everyone else’s radar and kicking the tires won’t get it done.

I like that he is staying committed to the process of getting this right. Timmy is like that, too. Seriously, these guys have more $$$ than they could ever spend in 3 lifetimes if they retired today. I love Matt Cain for what he has done for the Giants.
By the way, did you see where the Angels manager said “Timmy is learning how to pitch without a fastball.” That is not a good omen for him. Most pitchers at the mlb level have to have some sort of fastball….

Last time the Giants played at Fenway was in ’07. The only thing I remember from that series — a 3-game sweep for the Sox — was a Saturday afternoon game on national TV in which Cain pitched his ass off but lost 1-0, a sign of things to come for young Matty. I don’t think there’ll be a repeat tonight, at least not the “1” part.

  15. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on July 20, 2016 at 1:56 pm

Pickup hoops in the gym here at the Y is GOING to happen at some point. I’ve already scouted the gym and am waiting for the right moment to make my appearance. SD Jr. may tag along as well. He’s a down low banger…the total opposite of his old man. Spent most of today wandering the streets and park. Any direction we go leads to interesting stuff. Jr and I even split up for a couple of hours, which was cool.
I’ve only laid down serious dough to attend an event three times in my life. Game 7 of the 2002 World Series was the first. Niners-Seahawks, the penultimate game at Candestick was the second, and tonight, “Hamilton,” will be the third. My daughter is a Hamilton fanatic, so I know (and mostly enjoy) all the songs, and I know all the back story, so…….the hacks staying at the Y are gonna tuck our shirts in and invade Broadway tonight.

Looks like loss number 5 is on its way … That will tie for the longest L streak so far … No so bad, I guess, considering we had many more of such by this time last year. And last year we had at least as many injuries.

Yet, with ALL our pitchers struggling, ALL our hitters struggling and our pen being … well … being that it is OUR pen, need I say more. This all could get out of hand and very ugly, very fast … a long but rapid slide from grace. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

Boston fans must be wondering who the fuck are these NL West players? “Cant pitch worth shit, none of them …. and we traded for one.”
