A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

58

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 26, 2016

There’s only ONE thing you can hold on to right now that doesn’t feel like total failure and despair. All those wins? All 58 of them….are in the bank. Nobody can touch them. And all the Giants can do is add to them. So we were built to withstand this type of nonsense where other teams who don’t have 58 in the bank would simply be watching their season slip away.

We need our real major league players back and we need some major league players who we we’ve never had yet. Gillaspe, Green, Pena, 40% of our starting rotation and an underwhelming bullpen ain’t gonna get it done.

This is not a bad penny year although I’m starting to wonder if Sabean isn’t keeping that one safely in his back pocket, at the ready.

by the way, it was positively lovely here today. And everyone in Ca is a pussy when it comes to weather.

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on July 26, 2016 at 9:45 pm

Whew! I was beginning to believe that Peavy, Pena, Parker, Smarjashit, Cain, Green, etc., were shitty players.

Who knew? Weather was the culprit.

Hey, when it comes from Flav, and gets some traction with one of our right coasters, it is hard to argue the point. You can testify, Loo, it was HOT AS FUCK that Friday night in YankMee Stadium. You could seriously cut the humidity in the air with a knife. I cannot imagine playing in it (and you know it is hotter down on the field). Are the dugouts there really air conditioned?

funny thing is man, i’m a little south of Flav and it was 95 here today and is supposed to stay that way til Friday.
Where Snarkk Unc and some of others Chi Zum live, probably 100. Of course, not at night games at ATT where fans are still bundled up.

Heyyyyy. Even Crawdaddy’s back on track. Middle of the lineup was below/beneath horrendless right on through that steamy E.C. venture. Buster, Belt and Crawford getting it done and amazingly, Williamson suddenly taking to the 3 hole.

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on July 26, 2016 at 9:51 pm

I was a big proponent of Parker to get more playing time between he and Mac, but Williamson keeps raking, and Parker will find it extremely hard to crack the LU, regularly.

It has to be time to bring him up. I know they wanted to play him and Panik slow, but I think Pence is ready. A couple of more starts max for Sacto, max.

      • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on July 26, 2016 at 9:56 pm

When Pence returns, does Mac get nailed to the bench?

      • muchosereno's avatar muchosereno said, on July 26, 2016 at 10:17 pm

I read somewhere that the MDs decided to just excise Pence’s hamstring. Apparently, there are three HSs. One gets removed all the time to make TJ surgery possible. Expendable? Sort of like hamate bones, I guess. Anyway, removal of the entire thing is supposed to expedite recovery. Let’s hope so. Pray for the reverend.

  7. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on July 26, 2016 at 9:54 pm

When Pence and Panik come back, if they do, I’d DFA Blanco in a heartbeat to make room. He’s a virtual nothing offensively. His defensive prowess is not worth keeping Williamson and Parker off the active roster. Adios, and thanks…

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on July 26, 2016 at 10:01 pm

Duvall’s emergence as an offensive player tells me even more to DFA Blanco. Williamson and Parker need playing time to see if their upside can be actually achieved, and that a decision to cut their asses is not made prematurely. We know what Blanco can do. The team needs more than what he can give…

Good night from middle of order/Belt in 6 spot vs. LHP, Span with couple hits and a walk.
Casilla gets the save, sac fly and a K from Votto and Bruce.

See if Posey is C for Bum tmw, day game after night game. He’s started both these 2 after the road trip.
He had good night at plate, stole 3b and scored on sac fly.
    That’s leading by example.

Props to the Reds too. These guys have lost almost as many games as the Braves had and given Giants 2 tough battles while whacking ball out the yard.

Don’t know how the E.C. Flappers do it, but here in CST flyover land it’s 12:47 AM. Worth it, though. Bit of a premonition again and wtf, Giants never gave up their lead and Reds never got closer than two down. Best couple things about the game was that the middle of the lineup regulars went on a bit of a rampage tonight and their conga-line trumped the Reds moonshots: Then we saw a strong five innings from Cain. Something about Willie Mays Field and the climate advantage even gets an old Horse native to Alabama back to whistling Dixie.

So it was worth staying up for this one. Hadn’t done much of that lately.

Waiting in the wings: Starter Ty Blach, who leads the PCL in wins and has a reasonable ERA and Tyler Rogers, a reliever whom i’ve cited a few times lately. Bullpen has been like a ’52 pickup card game lately. Needs a bit of stiffening and solidifying of role assignments as well. To my way of looking at it, Bochy uses up Law rather a bit early in most games. He strikes me as a 7th or 8th inning guy.

Hoping Bum is in a nasty mood tomorrow, we really need to win this series here at home because after this things get rough.

Seven games against the Nats in the next week. They’ve not been playing well lately and it would be just like us to be accommodating in helping them get their groove back. In the 4 home games against the Nats we will have only one competent starting pitcher: Johnny C.

Then it’s the dreaded spin out East. I’m wishing we had a bit more of a cushion going into this upcoming phase.

After that comes what will probably be the toughest home stand of the year: O’s, Pirates & Mets. The Pirates series should be interesting. If the rotation order maintains we will be throwing Smardge, Peavy & Cain at ’em. Ugh!
