Losing and More Losing
Giants going against someone named Reynaldo Lopez. He’s got an ERA in the 11’s. I’m sure that’s nothing a triple play or two couldn’t fix.
I’m guessing Nunie gets let loose today at the top of the LU. The o/u on number of times his helmet flies off while running the bases has been set at 1.5. Let the betting begin….
Pence back today. He and Nunie will at least give this shit LU a different look.
We need a shake up. Flip the spread. Whatever. Upside down time.
The Braves and Padres close to trade that will send Matt Kemp to Braves and Hector Olivera to Padres (pending physicals).
Kemp … Ugh … I think that guy is a legend in his own mind. Am in wrong about that?
Pen guys pick up Peavy and Giants patience at plate pays off (stealing Stix lines here, but).
9 walks today, and last one obviously a big one.
Get down off Denny’s ledge and enjoy baseball everyone.
Just say no to Jay Bruce. would have liked Melancon but he is a rental. Strick looked good, right?
Where does Nunez play tmw, 3b? Pagan with another o-fer behind him. Giants just do not hit behind runners.
Btw, Chuck and Charlie got me checking old Zappa on youtube and ran across something I didn’t know.
in the 80s he re-edited some of the old tunes from Hot Rats and earlier LPs so the cds (and yt vids online from them) sound different than the original cuts. Many comments expressed disappointment at the results.
Yes, and my dog is safe for another day! Too late for the cat though … 😉
I don’t know if I was imagining it but the team seemed different today … more focused, more determined, yet calm … As though they were not going to be denied, no matter what.
Nunie….
Yes, that is definitely it, for sure … and maybe a wee bit of The Reverend’s presence for a 2nd consecutive day didn’t hurt none at all either.
Got the same vibe even without watching, listening or even monitoring closely over the net.
Ok, that settles it … I definitely must have some of whatever it is your havin’ ….!!!
Satisfying win.
Did not catch more than glimpses as finally the Northwoods just today segued outta tropical rainforest conditions and working outside at somewhat sweaty tasks actually turned out rather pleasant and productive.
This game was Buster’s Baby. Those two caught stealings stole Washington’s thunder ~ particularly when he nailed Harper in the 8th after that 4 pitch freebie by Lopez. Taking down the potential first run of a comeback inning and the heart of the Gnats’ offense, took the heart out of their offense psychologically. Then back to the top of the 5th he also nailed leadoff man Ben Revere. To top all of the defensive prowess the Giants demonstrated today, he also ignited the winning rally in the bottom of the 7th. Perfect timing to take the Giants first lead of the game. Trade Buster? Hah!
Crawford desperately needed the blow and Giants got second day service from their latest acquisition Ed Nunez, providing early returns on the trade with the Twins a couple days ago with that 4th inning 2RBI double. A single and a stolen base can be added to his contribution.
Belt’s single following Buster’s in the winning inning, followed by that walk drawn by Pence set up Panik’s sacrifice fly, followed quickly by Brown and Blanco adding to the free pass parade and spotted that vital insurance run. Trade Buster OR Belt? You gotta be kidding. Here you got Pagan leading off and going 0-5, though sacrificing in a run. BB9 was 1-1 with THREE walks, batting waaaay down in the order. BELT FOR the TWO-HOLE. He’s kinda shy about being a big RBI man, but batting 2nd or even back to 3rd and he’s gonna score a pile.
Pence’s impact was more psychological than anything else. He added an edge, drew a walk in a key situation. Brown keeps showing that he can be a weapon off the bench as well as doing a more than merely competent job as Buster’s backup.
Leading into the top of the 7th Washington had to stand before the Law. Two quick outs quieted them a bit. Turner laced a 2-out single, but was promptly stranded by another quick out. With 4 wins now under his belt including the team’s page-turning 60th, Derek Law has shown the moxie to become a pretty successful win vulture.
The experiment of plunking Gillaspie in the pivotal 3-hole will come to a quick closure after today’s embarrassing 0-5. Too much pressure. He might could handle 7th fairly well and 8th as a threat preceeding the pitcher.
In almost two full innings, after the departure of Peavy, Mr. Strickland gave up nothing but goose-eggs in 1.2 IP. Perhaps he’s found his niche. Could he add just one more effective pitch and become one of the most effective firemen in MLB? That would depend on how much Bochy values that forgotten critical role. Bailing out the Giants most recently added LH reliever was not high-pressure, but he got the job done fine. One step at a time.
With Romo back and most frequently effective, Casilla maintained his mojo and sealed the deal. What are we seeing here? Roles are getting more refined teamwide as of today’s victory. Strickland as the fireman; Law shutting them down in quick order. Romo and Casilla relaxing back into their primacy. All good.
Buster was not alone, but stood out in today’s win. It was a great team effort by and large and they kept their cool and maintained station. It developed even after Panik lining into that killer DP in the bottom of the 5th, making it look to all the world that Loki was still lurking and that today was gonna be like yesterday with another liner leading to a very rare form of triple play. But the bottom of the 5th proved to be the nadir of today’s game as the Aesir of this game told Loki to play elsewhere for awhile because with the presence of that new addition and the two returned wounded warriors the Giants got their spirit back.
For someone that only caught “glimpses” of the game, that’s one helluva recap Stix!
Roger, Wilco. Thanks. Weather here took a turn for the better today and yesterday was gifted with some high-impact smokum. Without the hyper-intense sunlight of recent days my eyes could handle the load outdoors. Still abuzz after a bunch of weeding-composting then back to the hacienda and read over the gameview and box on SFGate coverage. Inspired.
Ronald Reagan was famous for what Stix does . . . You should get paid Stix. 🙂
“One of his responsibilities was to give accounts of Chicago Cubs baseball games via telegraph. During one game between the Cubs and their arch rivals the St. Louis Cardinals that was tied 0-0 in the 9th inning, the telegraph went dead: An often repeated tale of Reagan’s radio days recounts how he delivered “play-by-play broadcasts” of Chicago Cubs baseball games he had never seen. His flawless recitations were based solely on telegraph accounts of games in progress.”
Thanks Blade. Problem for me is that if it does not have to do with Giants baseball i do have this tendency to get “off message” as the elite phrase it.
Addendum: Once in 1934, during the ninth inning of a Cubs – St. Louis Cardinals game, the wire went dead. Reagan smoothly improvised a fictional play-by-play (in which hitters on both teams gained a superhuman ability to foul off pitches) until the wire was restored. (Wikepedia.org)
Reagan learned early how to make up shit from whole cloth. Many of his folksy anecdotes as president were absolute, total bullshit. Nonetheless, Trump’s inventory of lies has Saint Ronnie beat by a mile…
Holy Smokin’ Sticks Stix! Can I have some of what your havin?
Epic! POTD … imho.
How many times when the Gyros actually DO hit a single with a man on 2nd, does the runner NOT score because of being cautious, or not gauging properly that the hit will actually be a hit, etc? Do they lead the league in that?…
Yes!
So we still talking 3rd base coaching. Is he improving, even a bit?
Amazed at Justin Verlander. Unlike Tim Lincecum, Verlander was able to resurrect his career. I thought he was absolutely done 2 seasons ago and fast forward to last season and this season, he is far from finished. Tonight, I wasn’t able to see him pitch, but followed him closely as I had him in a few FD and DK tourneys. He pitched a complete game against Houston, with 11 Ks, 2 earned runs, and with his team down 2-1, somehow the Tigers pulled ahead of the Astros, giving Verlander the well-deserved victory, 3-2. His FD score was 66 points and DK was 41.15.
Damn, I wish Lincecum could have resurrected his career, but by most measures, most people would agree, Timmy had the more satisfying career with the 2 CYs and 3 WSs. In my opinion, both are supreme athletes and deserve the success they’ve attained in MLB.
Hanging out with GF Kate Upton, I’m amazed the guy has enough energy to throw a fastball. I must say though, she’s not in the best shape, like some athletic girl, she’s in model shape. Though, I wouldn’t toss her off the mattress, if I were presented the opportunity…
In the 4th inning, Dodgers losing 3-0…maybe wishful thinking, but could the Pence return and marked comeback win be getting in their heads…?…. If just in my head, I’ll enjoy the thought and sleep well tonight….
And have my salute to the Giants flag and shot of whiskey.
and getting shutout by a guy with 1 start that gave up 6 runs in 5 innings, 8 hits 3 HRs 4 walks.
Maybe Loki, told by the Baseball Aesir that he can’t pull tricks on the Giants for awhile again, decided that he would go pick on the LaBumbos instead.
Yeah snarkk, I remember when Reagan came out with that campaign advertisement “It’s morning again in America.”
Trump? “Nightmare On Elm Street.”
Agreed. I’m no big fan of Hillary, but I’m not into fascism. Nor having a Putin bromance buddy in the Oval Office. If we had the country run by a board consisting of all the Flappers, the damn country would be far better off. No bullshit, reality-based governance, and full tax breaks only to the Giants, such as a full write-off granted for the Span contract…
I’m taking off for Vietnam on Sept. 13th and will be there through December 6th. Trump gets elected, I may come back to sell my condo and then take off again. I seriously think our Constitutional rights will be in jeopardy with this psycho in office. He is not harmless as some choose to believe.
I don’t believe for a second he is harmless. He is dangerous as hell. The idea of an an outsider coming in and being a disruptive influence to this idiotic government sounds good in theory. But, in practice with this clown, it would be a disaster. The guy’s businesses are indebted to Russian financiers. He probably couldn’t find Poland Or Vietnam on a map. These idiot GOP “leadership” clowns are endorsing his ass to save theirs. It’s crazy…
Very scary times.
I sure would trust a flapper government more than i would by Killary, or the Trumpeting Pachyderm for that matter.
Donald Trump rejected a Muslim lawyer’s assertion on the Democratic convention stage that the Republican nominee has “sacrificed nothing and no one.” Trump had, among other things, been subjected to such hardships as flying commercial, playing golf on a public course and staying at a three-star hotel.
If any of you Flappers have an under-sink water filtration system, and you like yours, let me know what it is. Mine is crapping out, and I’m looking to replace it. Lots of choices out there, hard to tell which one might be better…
I actually do have one snarkk. This is the first home I’ve ever owned that came with one installed. (The water here is horrid) it is definitely an older model (now discontinued) and we had a bit of a hassle getting the two replacement cartridges.
Ours is a ‘Premier’ but because this the first time owning one I cannot say I recommend it more than any other. When we first installed the new cartridges the water looked quite grey for about a week. I learned that was because of the slow absorption of water into the filters and the greyness was simply caused by microscopic bubbles. It cleared up and the water tastes fine.
OK, BB, thanks.
I’m imagining the first National Board meeting of Flappers in the Cabinet Room of the White House on Jan 20, 2017, 2:30 pm. BF presiding. First order of business — motion approved that everybody in attendance be served as much Lagunitas IPA as requested. Next Agenda item: The Flapper Board to take over ownership and management of the SF Giants by executive order. Second agenda item proposed by Board Member snarkk: Mr. Larry Baer be designated as Giants executive washroom attendant, and Gregor Blanco be DFA’d immediately…
I’ll second!
Can we hire Timmy back as chief herbal consultant and quality control manager of such aforementioned medicinals? … and of course fire the medical staff.
Pardon me …. Let me rephrase … I move that we …(hire Timmy back etc etc …)
AZ wins 4-2. The kid with the 10 something ERA shuts out LA for 6 innings and outduels Kazmir.
See this stuff doesn’t just happen to Giants.
It’s been a good day … a VERY good day!
fyi, mlb net gal said Giants this year are 29-19 with Pence in LU.
Earlier I read they are 63-36 since start of 2015.
Add up all the San Francisco Giant World Series titles won by every guy with a plaque, statue or signpost out at the ballpark. The total is ZERO. Gregor Blanco has made major contributions to 2 championships and is still a valuable player for us. He may not be back next year, but this year he deserves to stay and will come through like he always has…
Yeah, I was thinking about that, Loo. Why does “statue” have to mean “ancient history”? If/when Timmy finally hangs them up (could be soon), he should get a statue immediately. He helped turn the franchise around. Why wait? Hell, for that matter, start sculpting one of MadBum on a horse…. Bonds, obviously too.
Absolutelylutely!
You are right Loo … my “seconding” snarkk’s fantasy chief executive board motion was more of playing along with a joke … good fun but not heart felt.. In my heart of hearts, I believe Blanco’s contribution, overall deserves more than being kicked to the curb and in truth, he really is still a reasonably productive player.
I am serious about Blanco.
I’f cut his ass tomorrow, and bring Parker back up.
When it comes to rosters, I’m a fan of Bill Walsh. Better to cut sooner than too late…
Oh I believe you are serious. And your practicality is probably the right way to go. I think you are right that both Parker & Mac will only get better with time in the bigs. Blanco, on the other hand, has had his time, reached his peak. I think he can still contribute but the youngsters are the future and that’s more important. I’m just way too much of a sentimentalist. I couldnt pull the trigger on dfa-ing White Shark.
Does anyone have a moment and/or the interest to explain to me the Kemp for Oliveras trade that went down between the Pads & Braves? My understanding is Pads will pay sizeable portion of Kemps salary but they will have immediately DFA Oliveras who is owed almost $30 mil. So, Pads get rid of Kemp, get nobody they want in return and still have to pay mucho dinero to Kemp? Does a player who is DFAd still get paid? None of this trade makes sense. I get that Oliveras has been in trouble with the law and that he is no spring chicken … but wtf?
Absolutely no idea. Plus it’s the Pads and Braves, kind of meaningless in a way…. Kemp should probably go to the AL to be a DH in his last years….
Yeah, two completely inconsequential clubs but such a strange transaction no matter what teams are involved.
So glad I’m not the only one confused by the Kemp trade???
Snark and Blade…. Both of the candidates are crazy scary. Hillary has classified docs on her home computer. Says oops. I was careless…. Not a trump guy so save the hate mail..We are all screwed no matter who wins…Hard to imagine these two are the best America has to offer. Where if Jed Bartlett when you need him:)
Thank god Craig has given us the Flap for the Giant fans to have an escape against these losers…
Lastly.. Only the Giants lame medical staff would say Span is ok to bunt, but since he has a strained quad maybe he can but but not run????Idiots. He has been lousy so not like losing a great player..but really??? He can’t play because of a muscle strain but lets let him do a bunt and see if he can hurt himself sprinting to 1st if the bunt is bad. I’m sure that never happens!!
Good point dude. It does seem absurd.
