Back Home vs Birds
We get kind of a fun inter league match up tonight. Normally I don’t like inter league but I’ll put up with it for an mid Aug match up with the struggling Orioles. I’ve said many times, the Orioles were one of my favorite teams in the 70’s, mostly because of the cool ass names of their players (Palmer, DeCinces, Bumbry, etc…) but also because I thought “Orioles” was a rad name.
I never thought Baltimore was good enough to win the AL East this year and am surprised that they are still in the race. I highly doubt they’ll be there in the end. Cain should be able to manage them if he changes speeds and keeps the ball on the corners. He’s facing a free swinging team tonight. I’m very excited to see their starting pitcher Dylan Bundy. He’s a young, high strikeout guy who seems to have put his injuries behind him.
I gotta love games with the Orioles. Since they are considered a local team for me, the games will be televised here.
let us know who does their games and what you think of them. Insights you posted from FP (!) were very cool.
enjoy man…hope no more 14 inning games at least unless Giants pull them out.
I hear ya willie.
Checking BBRef this morning I figured maybe I should click on Bundy’s name, get up to speed. 4th pick in 2011, immediate call up the next Sept. for one inning, then gone for four years? On to google. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen a wikipedia page with such an extreme ratio of baseball info / personal stuff than Dylan Bundy’s. Hell, I don’t even know if he had parents, but I’ll be watching for the cutter he uses against LHs.
LIke Zum said in last thread, up to Giants hurlers to keep ball in the yard. A’s did for first 3 games and beat them. Kind of surprised they are on top too; supposed to have excellent pen.
Noticed in news that Jose Bautista is going on DL with sprained knee that he is hitting .222. Second time on the DL, currently 35, and going to be FA. Hmmn.
One of the things mentioned in the Kurkjian book about older mgrs. like Dusty B and players of his era is their disappointment in how often modern players strike out.
Loo, I assume you don’t like most NYers don’t have AC. How do you survive during this heat wave??? Check in to the Y??? Or sketchy hotel in the Bronx???
I would not even go outside if I didn’t have to run errands…heat index here boys at Noon today is expected to be 111:(
OBX has been in the triple digits as well, GH. What yardwork that needs to get done, I try and get it in before noon (yesterday went longer though), been also painting the front porch. Work outside for an hour or two come in and cool off a bit then go back out and do it again.
My lawn is going to have to wait Bozo…my crazed neighbor was out mowing around 10 am…
Gonna be 100 here today, and 102 next couple of days. But it’s a “dry heat.”
Thank goodness I am getting the hell outta town on Sunday to see our boys against the O’s.
Big contrast in styles btw. SF and Balt and of course park factor plays into things quite a bit.
Both Giants and O’s are 6th in their respective leagues for runs scored, but:
O’s are first in HRs, 2nd slugging 2nd OPS.
Giants are 3rd OB 13th HR and slugging 9th OPS.
O’s have struck out 938 times, giants non pitchers 684.
Giants have drawn 404 walks, O’s 329 (with DH no less).
Giants second in triples, O’s dead last.
Always liked O’s as opposed to Yanks/Boston going back to early 60s, and even more once they acquired Frank Robinson. Weaver was always a hoot, and pretty sharp guy too. Schowalter, ugh, though recognized as again a very astute mgr.
Good stuff, WillieD. Thanks for pulling that together. And Giants leading in triples is I am sure related to park factor (I would be surprised if they had more on the road than at home).
Besides the Giants as the #1 team for me , the Orioles were my next with great players like Frank Robinson, Brook Robinson ( the human vacuum) Paul Blair,Boog Powell,Mark no hit but great glove Belanger,Eldrod Hendrix ?, the fantastic 4 Pitchers Pamer, McNally,Cuellar,Dobson and that crazy reliever Don 2 pack Stackhouse which Earl called him every time he pitched! Great team!!!
Giants have only 2 guys with 80+ Ks on the year, led by Belt with 98.
O’s have 5 with 80+, led by Chris Davis with 155 and M Trumbo with 127.
For you DuffHeads….he’s been activated by the Rays.
heard he is going to be the starting ss today.
We’ve talked about it before Flav, but I also had a thing for the Orioles growing up. Palmer was the man, of course—-though I do remember being bummed out a time or two when he got roughed up in the all star game. As a kid I wasn’t that into autographs and was pretty shy about approaching players in the first place, but the first time I ever asked a player for an autograph was Al Bumbry at the Coliseum and he was cool and signed a program for me. As for DeCinces, I’ve mentioned this before, but when I went to Game 7 of the 2002 World Series, I talked to him briefly as we were both walking up to the stadium. He was very friendly as well.
Duffheads—-I like it! I always wondered if Duffy put pressure on himself to hit homers playing 3B and if that led to some of his slumps. If there is anything to that, maybe playing SS will allow him to not worry about that as much. I still wish we hadn’t made that trade, but I’m getting over it. I wish the guy the best and will definitely be keeping tabs on him.
Duffy may or may not go onto a good career. But, I don’t see the lamentation of losing the guy at this point. He had one good season. If Sabean can trade Matt Williams, he can trade Duffy. The Williams trade turned out pretty well…
I was disappointed they traded Duffy. The Matt Williams trade devastated me—I can’t even compare the two. But yeah, the Williams trade worked out pretty damn well.
I am with you, snarkk, and I liked (and still do) DuffMan a lot. But everything I heard and read was that Tampa was adamant about him being a part of the trade. Classic example of you have to give up something to get something in return. I still think it was a good trade…we definitely need a pitcher like Moore more than we need an exciting (but relatively unproven) young IFer, IMO.
We all loved the Duffster but the writing was on the wall when they picked up Nooner. Crawdaddy locked in for 6yrs, no place for Arroyo except 3rd which their grooming him right now for. Nooner fills the gap for this season and hopefully beyond as a valuable addition..
Yeah, if they weren’t going to try to convert Arroyo or Duffy to a leftfielder, one of them was probably destined to be traded. The Giants’ brass probably really tossed that around back and forth before deciding that Arroyo had the bigger longterm upside. And it turned out that Duffy could get the Giants Matt Moore.
Yep. As I mentioned earlier, I have heard that the Giants tried that deal a multiple of ways (wanting to keep Duffy), but Tampa said Duffy was a part of the deal, or no deal.
Revised Heat Index: 114 degrees as I type…
Nice thread, Flav. Yes…I had a soft-spot for the O’s as a kid, too (must be something about birds, as you all know I grew up in Oklahoma as a Cards fan). But I always liked their uniforms, too. It will be a “Halloween-type” night with both clubs rocking the Orange and Black.
Four in Seven! Humm Baby – Let’s Do It Again!
Given team colors tonight, this may be the orangiest Orange Friday ever…
BTW, don’t Gyros have a losing record on Orange Fridays? If yes, maybe go to Black Fridays instead…
Wheeler heading back to see Dr. Andrews.
The Mets seem to get more than their share of pitching arm issues, but maybe it’s just a coincidence. But maybe not.
I didn’t like Collins’ “rant” the other day. He faked at taking responsibility, in my opinion. He said “I’m the manager, and it’s my responsibility; but blah blah blah” as we want on to blame everyone else.
If he’s going to take responsibility, then say “I’m the manager, it’s my fault, it’s up to me to get this turned around.” The end. THAT’S taking responsibility. Not the rambling statement that he made.
I 100 percent agree. Guys in charge who say “I’m accountable” and then no consequence follows this statement ate fos Imo.
Are, sorry, on ph
I still haven’t watched any Olympics events . . . However, I read an article about Hope Solo’s poor sportsmanship, where she made these disgusting comments about the Swedish soccer team, who were victorious over the U.S.
“(I think) we played a bunch of cowards,” Solo told reporters after the match. “You saw us give everything that we had today. Unfortunately the better team didn’t win.”
Fuck that bitch.
Losers often say dumb stuff after a tough loss. Timmy never made excuses or blamed others while losing during his decline. I respected him for that. He was a straight shooter in that regard…
She embarrassed the USA. I equate her comments with the bullshit coming out of Trump’s pie hole.
I’m getting convinced Trump is doing this daily ration of BS because he wants to lose. He’s building a doofus fan base after he loses that he is going to milk for millions and millions for the next decade, just like these reich wing radio hosts do. He’ll do radio shows, sell crap, do speeches, and rail against the establishment — all the while taking in loads of dough…
Good call, Tom. I agree 100%. I can tell you right now, HRC is our next president. I am not a fan (have been a hard-core Bernie guy with monthly $$$ contributions), but regardless, she will be the next Commander in Chief. And she is much more qualified than Trump for the position. Thinking about out Trump having his finger on our nuclear arsenal is scary as hell! Okay…let’s get back to baseball. GO GIANTS!
It was Brooks Robinson for me as a kid. He was such a sick fielder. Him and Frank Robinson.
Graig Nettles was better – no one will ever convince me otherwise…
Definitely an arguable comment, Loo.
When I think of Earl Weaver I just think of the endless arguing with the umpires. I am grateful to instant replay for getting rid of a lot of that. I don’t miss it at all.
I thought for a long time that managers arguing with umps added flavor. I’ve changed, agree it was and is a waste of time. Now the argument essentially can only be on balls and strikes. Robo ump will do away with that nonsense…
The bullshit inconsistency on calling balls and strikes, and MORE IMPORTANTLY, the lack of accountability for umps who constantly fuck up has put me in the robot ump camp. Bring it on. I am so tired of the bullshit that is the 20 different strike zones, etc.
Duffy GIDP in first AB…
Thanks for ruining my evening Loo. 😦
It’s what I do best…
jk
sort of
Substitute Matt Duffy for Randolph Scott
I Know I’m probably in the minority here, but I never liked Cal Ripken, still don’t.
Jr. or Sr. or both? Regardless, I didn’t like his son. Father was cool I thought.
Jr.
Never liked him either, Bozo…
Snarkk– I’ve thought this for months (about Trump). He only started doing this because he had a half hearted concrete message about “Making America Great Again.” He probably just wanted to sell the hats. lulz. Then this thing took off and he rolled with it because it stroked his ego, it gave his lame wife and kids something to do and hey, what else is a billionaire supposed to do? Now it’s like “Oh shit I don’t actually want to do WORK, I better lose.” Now he’s sabotaging while still staying true to himself and doing whatever the fuck he wants. He knows he’s going to lose. And then after all this is over he’s going to have 30% of our country’s dumb and dumbest following him, adoring him and buying ALL his shit…..
From my perspective Trump is brilliant. He’s taken his business to another level. And he’s dependent on the dumbest part of our population following him. Who can’t get dumb people to follow them? Look how easy this was, it’s almost scary what he got dopes to do. This entire thing, when it’s over, is just going to be a joke on us and he’s going to win (privately).
Can I use this so people will think I’m smart?
Yep, he’s scamming all these idiot followers so he can pick their pockets later when he plays the “I got robbed by a rigged system” card. Like Glenn Beck selling gold shit to his moronic followers. Trump is good at fraud, ask the suckers who blew their mortgage money on tuition to “Trump University”. One thing I think is amusing is that Melania is probably an illegal. He won’t release any paperwork on how she’s legally in this country. That would be Yuge — the first First Lady that is actually an illegal…
He is a brillant business man. But he has filed bankruptcy like 6 or 7 times. He is the anti-thesis of what we should want and expect our country to be. I try VERY HARD to NOT use the H word, but I hate that fucking cocksucker! I really wish I could meet him and kick him as hard as I can in the fucking nuts, and then when he doubles over in excruciating pain, I would deliver a knee to his smirky ass face. I would not be sad if someone took his ass out. Fuck that motherfucker. So, you want me to REALLY tell you how I feel?!
Duffy has a single in 3 ABs so far.
Rosenthal says Giants should’ve held on to him…
If it was him or Panik to the Rays, what would you have done? wonder what Rosenthal would have said?
Hindsight of course being 20/20.
Rosenthal is wrong, IMO. The Giants needed Moore more than they need Duffy. Tampa INSISTED on Duffy as part of the deal. I make that trade (in the current situation) all day, every day, and twice on Sunday. And I really loved DuffMan. That’s baseball…
Brooks Robinson: career chances 9196; fielding .971.
Graig Nettles: career chances 7691; fielding .961
Cal Ripken: career chances 12620; fielding .977
Michelle Carter, daughter of former Niner D-lineman great Michael Carter, just won gold in women’s shotput…
That is bad ass! Carter was a BEAST in his prime.
Hopefully, Cain can keep the Birds to 2 HRs max in his likely 5 2/3 or so innings of work tonight…
I’ll give Orioles the advantage in better uni for black/orange teams tonite.
Yes, appears the Great Karmatic Equalizer has decided Hope Solo’s account is overdrawn.
“Great Karmatic Equalizer”
Got to remember that one Willie.
I think I first saw that expression in an old High Times mag.
LOVED “High Times” mag. You took me back there. Thanks, WilleD. And I love the “Great Karmatic Equalizer.” Good stuff! We really need to meet at a future Flapalooza!
For whatever reason, I was thinking of Johnny Carson when he did Carnac the Magnificent (I had to look it up and I was surprised the spelling was Carnac and not Karnac).
Nice play by Nunez.
he’s not bouncing ’em over to first base, is he?
Actually, he fielded a grounder and made an “around the horn” double play.
Are you watching the game Flav or on your phone?
i was responding to a nice play he made throwing to first. I’ve got a lot going on here tonight, not sure what inning it was.
That was nice start of the DP by Nunez and a good play to get Cain off mound in 2nd. I’m just curious what SF plans to do with him.
And I admit to being suspicious of guys putting up good numbers on crummy teams (like Jay Bruce).
Twins are 23 games under .500. Their pitching is dead last in AL and they are also dead last in hits runs/earned runs and HRs.
So likely they were behind early and often to other teams…like yesterday when Astros scored 25 runs on them in sweeping a DH. By 5th inning of each game, scores were 12-3 and 9-0. At that point the SP is just out there throwing strikes and not worrying much about results.
Nunez is AE next year, and with him making 1.45 this year, even with a nice bump in arbitration, he is going to be cheap. He will “keep the seat warm” for Arroyo. And no guarantees Arroyo will be ready in 2018. I can see the Giants trying to ink a deal with Nunez. He fits the Sabevans mold in that he is a guy who has speed and can play a number of positions, both IF and OF.
Birds making it look like an easy conga line there.
I wonder how the Giants would hit Cain and Peavy? Probably not well…
Great play by Machado
Might have had something going there, but for the excellent fielding play and force at 2nd by Machado . . . We’ll never know now.
Trumbo hit that and took about a 2 inch step. Still crushed it. I don’t know why I keep getting sucked into Cain being a guy we can count on the rest of this year.
Cain sucks. I gave him max 5 2/3 tonight. That looks wildly optimistic.
$20 million of suckage is a lot of suckage…
it’s really shocking how great he and Timmy were when they made shit compared to when they made their dough.
You guys both nailed it in regards to Cain and Timmy. Just a real head-shaker in regards to Cain. I am with you Craig…I have NO confidence in the dude (number five starter or not).
maybe we can save him for when Nats come back to town.
Cain is giving the O’s a nice BP session.
Go Bucs, up 4-1.
All we have left is whoever is playing the Dodgers.
Better start paying attention to Wild Card standings…
Good call, Loo (unfortunately).
Hopefully Hope Solo isn’t drinking heavily right now. She’s a mean drunk.
Lulz!
But I would still do her, mean drunk or not. Might get my ass kicked in the process of getting laid, but WTF…
Buddy of mine in HS liked the White Sox but used to make jokes about IF Don (stone fingers) Buford. Sox started him at 2b then moved him to 3b, where he made 45 errors in 2 seasons.
They traded him to O’s who moved him primarily to LF. He was awesome there, going over .800 OPS 4 seasons in a row btw 68-71 with very nice WAR numbers.
Personal trivia: Buford was the first batter at the first game I ever attended.
WGAS…
Span-pa!
Surprised that Kelly didn’t hold him up at 3rd. lulz
Bochy has probably told the team to ignore Kelly and use their own judgement…
buzzkill AB there from Belt after nice ones from Span and Pagan.
Post AS break he’s lost 20 points off the BA. Not good.
I’ll give him this, he hangs in there and gets blasted like a man. That’s gotta count for something.
In WWII, the expression for pilots about to crash was “Shut up, and die like an aviator.”
when the plane is going down, the pilots meticulously go through all their checks, if none of it works they literally go “I guess that’s it” and then they crash. Feels like that’s what Cain is doing and I don’t get it, his velocity is there, he’s not spraying his pitches all over like Lincecum was doing. It just makes no sense……….
Cain fucked up covering, Kim fucked up worse. Total brain fart by both teams.
Cain is like a Cain I never knew. It’s bizarre. He’s still throwing 91 but he’s just nearly worthless. He walks off the mound like a guy who knows he can’t compete anymore. I don’t get what’s happened to him, he seems healthy……..
Agree 100% Craig. It is fucking mind-boggling. I do not get it.
I think Cain and Lincecum just wore out from too much use.
Kind of like my Black Sabbath Paranoid album…
LOVED that album, Loo! And in regards to your comment, I WORE OUT that fucking album in high school!
The one time that I saw Sabbath live was down in Hollywood in the 70s, I think it was at the Palace because I remember photos of Lawrence Welk around the place. I wasn’t arrested that night, so it was a win for me.
Even in his prime, I never thought Cain had really great stuff…
I agree. I was not a fan of that big contract when it went down.
Cain’s prime was brief. I remember when he took 2-3 mph off his FB–2009, I think–and started pitching with some command, offspeed stuff working too. He rode that prime through the 2010 PS. 3 games, no earned runs in that PS. Then the gradual decline began in 2011. Worst game I ever saw him pitch at the park was in May 2007. He tried to overpower the Phillies and didn’t make it to the 4th.
Just getting settled in…been running like crazy. Grand daughter’s BD tomorrow, then going to a concert with my daughter and her boyfriend. tomorrow night, and finally Giants game on Sunday. But, what I have observed so far, I just question Cain as the 5th guy in the rotation. But, what are the options (I do not think there are any other viable options other than putting Peavy back in the rotation)? I am sure most team’s 5th guy sucks about as much as Cain sucks.
Bottom line, tow the line here, and the offense has to wake the fuck up and score some runs. Sorry, this is not the team (given our pitching staff) that is going to win a ton of close 1-0 games, etc.
Pence is back….
Um, Chris Davis is not go oppo bomb on everyone. In fact, he’s having a pretty shitty year without his precious steroids. And he took Cain out to the woodshed there.
Every hitter in the LU except SP had at least 1 hit. Wieters has been shits too and he cracked one off wall.
3 doubles 2 HRs no cheapies either.
Maybe earlier in career Cain could get away with “location mistakes” but not now.
He just seems mystified, like huh? did that really happen?
Um yeah it’s 5-1 and you’re gonzo.
Bummed this series isn’t at Camden Yards, a great place to see a game. Only time Giants have played there was in ’04, saw Bonds crush a HR over RF stands after O’s manager Mazzilli didn’t walk him with first base open.
Great post, Mac. But I am thankful for this series. I have always wanted to see the O’s and my daughter and I will take in Sunday’s game. I would love to see a game a Camden. If Giants visit there in the next couple of years, it will be time to T-up another right coast Flapalooze!
That’s cool, hope you can catch a W.
Mind boggling that we are 16 games over .500 . . . Our team has completely sucked since the All Star break. I don’t even know who these guys are.
Catching up on earlier posts, did you see the response to Solo’s comments? “It’s OK to be a coward if you win,” responded Sweden coach Pia Sundhage, the same woman who coached the United States to back-to-back Olympic gold medals in 2008 and 2012.
Yeah, especially Foudy’s comments about her being “classless.” As Zum alluded to, she’s a loser . . . Arrested for domestic violence, as this excerpt from an article illustrates . . .
“It was early in the morning on June 21, 2014, and Hope Solo had just been arrested on two counts of domestic violence. The police were trying to book her into jail, but Solo was so combative that she had to be forced to the ground, prompting her to yell at one officer, “You’re such a b—-. You’re scared of me because you know that if the handcuffs were off, I’d kick your ass.”
check out the arrest record of the loser she married, J Stevens of UW and Seahawks.
Steve – funny how our memory is short-lived. Go back and check-out 2014. They had a really rough spell out of the AS break that year, too.
Yeah, I recall . . . However, this feels different IMO. Personally, if I had the authority, I’d do a “Dodgers move” and just eat the contract on Cain and release him. Put Peavy in his slot. Alternatively, Cain can go to the minors and work out his shit. Giants brass need to do something with him.
Will not argue with that (that the brass needs to do something)…but this season is much like 2014 in regards to a very fast start, and then…a fair amount of sucktitude….
Schoop is a really good looking young hitter.
How’d you like .280 .790 OPS 17 bombs out of your 2b?
Plus he made super scoop and throw on the ball Machado snagged and almost doubled up Pence.
Bochy’s down with my earlier call. Max 2 HRs, and Cain is done. If I were managing, I would not have let him start the 5th, he was getting his ass kicked. What’s Kruk’s excuse this time for Cain? Effin A, he gave up 11 hits? I figured after they got Moore, it would be a race to the drain between Peavy and Cain. Looks like Cain is circling it — agree with blade, the dude needs to go on the DL — screw his paycheck, get somebody in here that can pitch. There has to be some arm in the minors that can get through 5 innings without getting smoked…
The tequila is gone and so am I… Go giants.
Is Adrianza PHing as a RH batter really an improved chance for a hit over Gilaspie hitting LHed? Seriously. I don’t see much point in that…
Did Kruk say 12 Giants retired in a row? Sheesh, watching grass grow has more action.
This has been more than a slump. These guys are sleepwalking through these games. They ought to DFA Cain and Blanco just to wake people up. The way I figure it, they only owe Cain about $30 million, assuming the $7 million buyout for 2018. Cain has now stolen about $50+ million for the past 2 1/2+ years of suckage…
Down with that (like last week).
I said long ago that the team should DFA Blanco. Have not thought about Cain, but hard to argue with ya, Tom. Team owes him 20 mil next year and a 7 mil team option in 18. Maybe Cain takes a “hometown discount” on the buyout and takes 15 mil to walk away .
You guys need to RELAX regarding Cain. He has been pitching well and tonight he had no fastball command and got lit up. It’s gonna happen sometimes to any guy who doesn’t throw 95 plus.
Giving up an oppo homer to Chris Davis? No shame in that–its not like he’s a modern day Mark Belanger. Even in a down year he’s got 25 bombs. I still think Cain is gonna hold his own the rest of the way.
your beatitudes continue to impress. what’s the expression in Spanish? Ojalá que you turn out to be right
Dog, come on man. Cain has been terrible, with flashes of OK. ERA 5.15, and 1.51 WHIP. Last time, sure, he gave up no hits in 5, but threw about 95 pitches and half of them he had no idea where they were headed…
Agree.
I don’t blame Cain. The Giants knew, before they gave him this big contract, that he had Ipanema Beach in his elbow. But, they extended him anyway. After that surgery, he’s been toast. I don’t see how you give a guy $120 million under those conditions. Extend him a year, or have the surgery in the offseason, then see what happens before you extend. They didn’t have to give him 6 years, but they did. Huge mistake…
Disagree about Cain. He’s through. Seriously. At least with Timmy, he struck out guys. Cain? Nada (62 SO in 79 innings, which is terrible). Couple that with a 5.48 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, 15 bombs, and a whopping .311 BAA . . . Umm, tell me where there’s a silver lining in his stats? We all spent 4 years thinking Lincecum would come around. How did that work out?
Great post. I could not agree more (and with all due respect to SanDiggity)…
Applaud your optimism…but I just do not see it.
Yep.
I was thinking about going to the game Sunday w/the Snarkettes. They’re back in school next week, last decent chance to go to our annual game. But, hell. I’m dubious about spending $175 by the time I’m done, to watch this team go through the motions…
Stay home and watch the game…I will spend those ducats for ya,…
But fuck it. I don’t care how badly this team sucks. I need a break from the valley heat, and am long overdue for a taking in a game with my baby girl (who turned 30 in May)…all good.
I hope to hell you have a good game to see, Chi…
Let’s get a rally going here…
Signs of Belt life!…
Regardless of how badly Cain sucks or how awful the BP can be at times, if this team cannot figure out how to score some runs regularly, it is all a very moot fucking point.
True that…
Agree, Chuck. Not much point of talking about pitching when the team is scoring 2 runs or less in more than half their games the past month, unless you’re talking about having 3 or 4 Kershaws or Bumgarners in the rotation (and he hasn’t won in the last month anyway)….
What a pathetic excuse for a game. I keep waiting (not unlike all of you guys) for this team to find another gear. SIGH…
G’nite Flappers…
G’night, Tom. Let me know if you decide to take in Sunday’s game. Jessi and I will be in the club level.
Will do. I’m down on it right now. Maybe a good one tomorrow will pull my dauber up…
I could give a fuck what some of you guys think about the Olympics (big respect to ya SanDiggity), but they have been and will be SO much more entertaining than that piece of shit game the Giants played tonight…
Cain’s line tonight . . .
IP H R ER BB SO WHIP ERA
This Game 4.0 11 5 5 1 7 3.00 11.25
I say Peavy gets the next start. Fuck it…if they do not DFA Cain, at least put his ass in the bullpen. He has done NOTHING to deserve another start.
Why not? Sure couldn’t hurt. The only two things I will say is that possibly Cain is still building up arm strength (isn’t this his 5th start since coming off the DL?); and, he did SO 7 guys tonight. However, you have to take this with a grain of salt, since the Orioles set the MLB record this season (May I think against the Astros) striking out 52 times in a 4 game series.
Steve, also agree with your thought that this slow death march feels different than ’14. Then, it was excruciating how they could go from the best record in the majors to playing the worst stretch of ball in the majors…. but I somehow felt they would pull out of it, which they did. I still feel like they will start clicking again, just needing a guy like Pence to shoulder the team for a bit, but these guys are all a couple years older than in 2014. Maybe they’re just tired. Sure look tired….
Agree with that synopsis, Paul. They DO look very tired. It is hard to imagine what you envision (one or a couple of the guys catching fire and carrying the team out of these doldrums). Not dooming, but…
Ironically, we had a bunch of subs playing before the All Star break and we were kicking ass and taking names. Baseball is hard to figure out sometimes.
Pirates are #1.
Love the Pirates (right now)!
BTW, as I say g’nite, a few above were talking about Camden Yards. I saw a game there back in the ’90s, really nice yard. Saw the Boids play the A’s, of all teams. EZ train ride up from DC, train stops right outside the park. Enjoyable place to see a game…
Yeah, love that park. Saw a game there in the mid 90s too. New aquarium had just been built down the street. Was attending a conference there.
That’s right, Steve. Still don’t understand why Parker is in Sacto. They’ve buried him and continue to trot out Blanco, Span…. Can’t really question management, they obviously know more than we do, but………….
But…
25 games since the break…. 13 of them, scored 2 runs or fewer. 2 of those were actually wins. They just need to soldier thru August, I guess, keeping close, and then have a kick-ass September to propel them into the playoffs. Yes, they *just* need…..
Just watched the high(and low)lights, was that a homer by Trumbo homer or the Perseid meteor shower?
I say we forget the next game while the whole team spends the day in a sweat lodge confessing their sins and dedicating the rest of this season to winning. nothing but winning.
see you Sunday.
forfeit not forget,
I am with you in your 10:54, Edd. I will probably miss tomorrow’s game. Grand daughter’s BD party during the day, and then catching David Allen Coe with my daughter and her boyfriend at a small club in Sac tomorrow night. Then Sunday…off to the cool temperatures of the City by the Bay (we’re catching the ferry out of Vallejo…first time). Give me a Bloody Mary bar keep…make it a double.
G’night FU.
Unreal numbers for offense last night around the league: 51 HRs hit over 160 runs scored.
Meanwhile…
Belt Posey Pence succession of bad ABs. Pence is swinging at pitches like Sandoval did. Even the double he got was on a pitch way off the plate. Add in Craw 2-15 with 6 Ks from middle order.
Was it kinda weird Nunez was first guy subbed out after 2 ABs?
Supposedly the regular 3b…hmmn.
I know we went south in 2014, but was it this bad?
Giants’ peak in 2014 was 43-21 (June 8), their lowest points afterward were 63-57 and 64-58 (Aug. 12/15), so this year’s team hasn’t bottomed out quite that badly . . . yet.
So I believe 2 Yankees making their ML debuts hit back to back homers in their first ABs.
How crazy is that?
Wow! That will cheer up Yankee fans.
Does this mean ARod isn’t coming back?
