Sunday Funday
I have no idea how websites determine the % chance that a team will make the post season but I checked a few different sites and they all seem to come in at 85% for the Giants. I get it, the wild card and all. They must be counting the play-in game which is really what it is. But for a team with the worst record in mlb since the break, for a team that seems to not be able to ever put good pitching and timely hitting together in a single game, that seems like a pretty high percentage, no?
Cueto today and he has become as confounding as his delivery. I wouldn’t pretend to know in a million years how he’ll do today. My guess would be awful. Unless of course we aren’t hitting Lackey at all, then I think he’ll be lights out……
Well, a split after those first 2 would be flat amazing.
count me in the camp who wants to see Nathan pitch. He hasn’t pitched for the Giants in 13(!) years. That kinda full circle doesn’t come around too often…..
That’ll get me thinkin’…
The only thing weirder would be getting Liriano back. Or AJ Gofuckme. Didn’t Nathan go 10-4 as a reliever in 200
Chris Speier came back after 12 years gone or some shit.
Didn’t see that when I was typing below, Chuck…
Speier had an 11 year break between his 2 Giant stints. I guess there’s others with more. Good bowl thinking material…
The Giants should activate Whiteside as emergency catcher.
Why not?
The Prez (classic nickname), oh no. Decker’s around too, isn’t he?
Loo,
Really digging your Big Loo Rocket pic from yesterday, had me busting a gut!
I use to have a Wham-o Air gun which looked liked a woman’s industrial hair dryer that would blast out a powerful burst of air, drove my sister crazy as her hair went flying…
I actually think he’s a good prototype for a robot home plate ump, Kat.
Wham-O was known for making toys you could do damage with.
Knepper was brought back after 8-plus years in Houston, is that close enough?
I feel like there might be someone else we’re forgetting, but I wouldn’t lose my mind over it…
I’m wondering why the Giants didn’t activate a 3rd catcher?
You have a banged up Posey and Brown looks like “Death ran over” and yet they don’t have another guy to bring up? Kontrass (sp?) Whitey?,Tom Haller?,Milt May?,Mike Sadek? are my favorite John Bocabella, always a laugh when the PA would say his name..
One thing about making the Wild Card is that the teams gets to do a champaign celebration for qualifying for the game AND another if they win that game.Other sports must think that’s pretty funny how baseball teams have those boozy celebrations in every round of the playoffs.
Where have you gone Dick Deitz? Flap nation turns its lonely eyes to you . . .
Dick Dietz is still locked in a basement beating the shit out of Harry Weldenstead( Umpire on the take from the Dodgers payroll) who would not allow Dietz 1st base after getting HBP with the bases loaded which would have ended Don Drysdale streak of shutout innings which he set back in 1968!!! Yeah that was fucked up and still burns me today!!! Fuck LA!!Fuck Umpires!!! Let’s go Loo’s Robot Umpires,if you argue, they blow you away!!!
You’re right about that robot, Kat. It shot darts out of the 2 holes in its chest and launched rubber tipped rockets from its base…

Nice…
Yeah their was some awesome lethal toys in the 60’s
Had a Creepy Crawlers set which was insanely cool .. Cast dyes, multi color tubes of killer chemical mixes, shit my room was like a mad scientist,”smoke bellowing out my windows as I yelled out “It’s alive,It’s alive”!!
I remember having high hopes for Jack Hiatt who hit his first ML homer off Koufax very early in his Giant career…
Just saw the highlights from yesterday. Crawford stealing 2 bases and then scoring on the wild pitch was great. It has been pretty awesome watching him become such a good player.
I think he’s your Willie Mac winner for sure.
Pagan runner-up…
Do they have a Aaron Rowand Consipated stance award?
They should make willie Mac the willie Mac winner one year. They trot him out there often enough for promo shit
I think Bagwell edges out Rowand for the Constipated Stance Award:

The game is on TBS if that helps anyone…
“Cueto today and he has become as confounding as his delivery.” Another gem.
Here we go, let’s go 2-2!
Is that Trump in the green shirt with white hat sitting in the first row behind home plate? Sure looks like him.
Posey at bats this series have become a real grind to watch
Can’t stand Lackey!!
He looks like the alien in Predator after Arnold rips his mask off..
Still hate him from 2002…
Somewhere Ranger, Tiger & Royals fans feel the same way about Bumgarner.
Yeah, Darling ain’t half bad.
Posey is confounding. Jesus. Hittable pitches get fouled off or popped up.
Good to see Parker in there.
Pence always hustles. 90% of the league would be standing on first base…
Agree..
Specs is a hustler as well,
Josh Reddick is just like Pence as well, I still would take him for our OF and hustle..
OOO…How to you hit a baseball when your eyes and neck are looking in the sky like Fernando Venezuela!!
I always thought that basket thing in the Wrigley outfield would make a lot of sense in many other ballparks.
It eliminates the whole fan interference issue…
Hunter Pence to home plate ump” l always called you cooz man”
Ump: “I’ve been called worse”
Yeah, that was good stuff. Giants and Cuzzi have some history I think…
The Ishi out at home wrong call in 2010 vs. the Mets.
Excellent, Mac. Might’ve been one other thing since.
Maybe a ball down the line somewhere? Can’t remember…
I remember Cuzzi blowing a call along the LF line that screwed the Twins in a playoff series vs. the Yanks.
That’s it, I bet…
Why rest both Pagan AND Craw on a key game like this? Rest one at a time…
Another bleepin’ bloop.
Andrew Baggarly @extrabaggs 6m6 minutes ago Chicago, IL
Through 4 innings, the Giants are 0 for 13 and now batting .097 in this four-game series.
Gotta figure out how to get another run without a hit…
Crawford makes that play. Some hits would be nice.
Look at that!
Was that just a squeeze???? Do my eyes deceive me????
Nunie!
Ivy Leaguer Darling: “Bochy pulling a rabbit under his cap.”
Well, shut my mouth.
A suicide squeeze? And, successful, too? Not phucked up?
It made eminent sense with Cueto on deck — probably the only possible combo of facts to make Bochy order it.
Kudos all around to Nunie with the double, then the steal, and then 000 for executing the bunt.
It will take me a while to recover from the shock…
Wind is blowing out to left. Now’s the time!
I’m not even going to look. What are Span and BUster this series? Like 1 for 25?
Is there a rule that you have to wear long pants when you’re playing? Could Pence just cut his off mid-quad and be allowed to play? What’s the diff between rolling them half way up your quad and just cutting them there?
Not too smart by 000…
Not too quick by 000…
if they get another bloopy bullshit hit I’m gonna lose my shit
Nice that Cueto pitched through but Jesus, what’s that 12 extra pitches due to 000’s weak play up the middle?
TBS misses Belt getting beaned. Nice work.
Total Bull Shit.
Unbelievable leaving Belt in like this.
Not really Dirt,
Giants medical staff says if the head is still attached to the neck it’s a green light situation !!!
Yeah, he’ll probably feel better if he runs the bases a bit.
it’s unreal how the Giants deal with guys who get him in the head. After what happened to Panik, how can you possibly justify keeping Belt, a guy with concussion history, in this game?
They probably figure that Panik homered after being left in, so maybe it’s good strategy…
If I am counting games correctly, the three games we play in LA we go Bum, Cueto and Moore and the the final three at home is Bum, Cueto and Moore…exxxxxcccelllennnntttt….
And they’re saying we’ll get Kershaw twice as well…
Kershaw and hopefully a very sore back.
And since we are going to win the division, that puts the rotation right in order to start the playoffs with Bum and Cueto against the Nats in DC!!!!
I know this is hard to believe after watching an at-bat like that but Cueto has never hit a HR.
LeStella looks exactly like Brandon Belt only shorter and smaller
Giants pitching has been pretty dang good this series. Cubs hitters have some gaudy stats but ain’t doing much more than the Giants, slumping as they are.
I think it’s great Bum and Cueto at top of the rotation have walked into the Windy and shut their asses down.
Remember 2010!
Concussion are not that was a hella nice play by MRI..
I don’t understand Bochy’s moves there in the last inning. At all.
Belt on first, nobody out. You need to add on.
He takes out Parker, a guy that can hit it out, with Tomlinson, a popgun hitter, but the fastest guy on the team, next to Nunie. Yet, he then burns Specs without a swing, when the Cubs bring in the new righty. Tomlinson could have easily bunted Belt to second, maybe even beat out the bunt for a hit and there’d still be no out. You’d force the Cubs to make a play on a bunt. No. He puts in lefty No-Smile, the slowest ass guy on the team, as part of the rightly lefty thing, and he has pop, but risks an EZ DP. Well, he Ks. One down, Belt stuck at first. Nunie flies out. 2 down. Then 000 gets hit, so men on first and second, two out. Instead of bringing in Williamson to see if he can smoke one, or maybe even Bum, he leaves in Cueto, basically an auto out, giving up the opportunity with Belt in scoring position. I do not understand any of that. It’s as if Bochy does not want to risk anything to score an add on run. Leaving Cueto in, I can maybe understand since Bochy has not much faith in the Pen, but Cueto is near 100 throws. And, how often are they getting a guy on second even in position to score? …
I agree, the Giants leaving Belt in with his concussion history is brutal. Ridiculous. Reckless. And, how many friggin times are our guys going to get hit by Cubs? We can’t retaliate because the game is so damn close…
I thought that squeeze play was gonna chill you out for the rest of the afternoon, but it only took you an hour to get back in full on get-off-my-lawn mode Snarkk! 😎
What squeeze play?…
Yeah, snarkk. I hear ya. Sort of surprised to see Romo here too.
Owns Fowler tho and K’d him easily. Then gets the pop out, nice job.
Yeah, good stuff from Romo there. Lopez too!
The old formula…
Radio keeps saying Posey is not healthy.
He’s hitting grounders this series like he’s 70 years old. If he’s fucking hurt, then keep him out to get healthy, and bring up another catcher, let Brown play. With this medical staff, he’s probably playing with a torn labrum or something…
Romo’s pitch to Bryant looked like it was right down the middle, and he popped it up. Caught a break!
Flemming, is that you? (grin)
They ran Belt through the protocol and he passed. Symptoms can appear later like they did for Panik, but he’s clear right now. I don’t see the problem.
Hey Brandon, where are you?
Uhhhh, in a ballpaaaaarrrrrrkk.
He’s good to go, Skip!…
LOL
The Rash flashing the leather!
E-some!
Y000!
Can somebody hit one out? Just for fun? Belt should just push one down the LF line, he has a double…
Agreed. 3 IFs to right of 2b, and they are pitching him away, total opp of the D.
Off season he needs to work on this; he ain’t Ted freaking Williams that can just ignore it.
They are giving you a base hit!
The Dodgers started their version of a scrubini lineup today. Pads take an early 2-0 lead.
Belt squared to bunt? Maybe he is feeling funny in the head.
Andrew Baggarly @extrabaggs 4m4 minutes ago Chicago, IL
Zobrist was batting 40 points higher against lefties. Ehire Adrianza just saved Bruce Bochy from some (tactfully worded) postgame queries.
I don’t know why Bochy would throw Lopez against any RHB, switch hitter or otherwise. Bochy normally plays the righty/lefty thing like it’s federal law. And, he’s got a damn army of relievers out there in the Pen…
Belt has to swing at that shit, the umps are calling that shit a strike all the time. Williamson should swing for the fences here…
F-ing Belt always seeking the BB. That’s too close to take. Fight it off or try to go the other way there.
Casilla coming in. One run up.
I’m grabbing a beer ahead of this…
So, if it ends like this, the G’s will end up with 12 hits in 4 games, and playing in Wrigley Field. I’m not even sure how that’s possible. That alone would make a split huge.
Definitely too close to take.
These same commercials over and over again are torturous…
The commercial where the guy dresses the dog like a lion so his kid will play with the dog needs to go away. It gets played a zillion times a day, and it has become a huge annoyance.
Posey has to keep friggin Casilla from throwing these curves too much…
The mute button, one of the great inventions of the last 50 years.
3 run jack by Puig…
Paging Joe Nathan…..
Everything up so far.
Epstein paid Heyward $184M? That’s a joke.
Urrrrrrrrg. Clean innings are a ghost.
Our garbage closer in the process of blowing another game.
