3 Run Explosion
Three runs in 2 games at Coors. I guess the + is that we’ve *only* given up 8. Anyone else have a problem with Nunie replacing The Invisible Span at the top of the LU? OBP is an overrated approach to determining who should lead off. I fully endorse Nunie at the top of the LU until further notice.
Another lefty Colorado starter today. I wonder how many of our lefty vets sit again today…..
So, uh, hey guys. See we are in a race together. Cool, cool. Look forward to our visit in a week or so.
Cardinal Devil Magic vs. Giants Even Magic, which will win? 🙂
Hey, nice 3-bomb ninth last night! We could use an inning like that.
Pulled it out from the jaws of defeat. I’d like to see it spark this team to a run, but they’ve never been much on momentum this year.
‘Course, three runs was all you needed last night, right?
Nice to see you here. I have been telling folks here that the four game set with you guys mid-month is probably as important, if not more so, than our remaining games against the dodgers. Should be interesting down the stretch!
I never expected for those games to be so meaningful, but you are right, they are going to be very big, especially for us. Look forward to hanging out here more as the series gets closer!
Realistic goal now is host the WC game. Division win looks like minor miracle…
One pitch in and the Mets have a 1-0 lead.
I’m hoping for Giants-Mets at Citifield so I can be there.
Screw home field where all our homeruns die.
I totally agree. I think I even said it before the Pitt WC game, not being at home can almost be an advantage for this team. Too much pressure and generally suckitude weighing the team down in SF
Nunez has not been a superstar since the trade but when he hits the ball, he hits it pretty hard consistently. Specs has that quirky baseball skill of doing the right thing at the right time. Keep Gorkys in there as well for another game. Keep the line-up as is and send the fear of God to Span and Belt and see if they come out Friday pissed off and ready to take it out on the Douchebacks…
Nunie makes things happen. He provides energy in ways the staid Span has never done. That’s more important than simply tunnel visioning OBP. He’s also got more power and speed. Nunie should be our LO hitter the rest of the year.
Completely agree. He doesn’t give them the long ab’s, walks etc but right now they need a spark. And maybe hitting 1 will get Ed N going. Hitting .229 in the 6-7 ain’t cutting it.
I know the Descalso family when my daughter(Callie) use to play fast pitch softball with Gina. Her father George and even Dan would come watch them play..
So last night had to be rough for the local kid when he made that error in the 9th that led to the winning run..
Interesting comments from Krukow yesterday morning on KNBR, regarding Casilla. He said that, basically, Casilla doesn’t know what he’s doing regarding the way you use pitches to set up other pitches. I guess he’s been shaking off Posey quite a bit. I haven’t really noticed it, but some pitchers are very subtle in how they signal the catcher, and the catcher knows when they’re “shaking off” the sign. And several times, he shook off the pitch Posey called this season, and then gave up an HR or an extra-base hit on the next pitch. Last night, whoever was doing play by play on TV at the moment, said that Casilla had shaken off a pitch, and Posey put the signal for the same pitch, insisting on the pitch. Casilla has got to be frustrating to work with. Krukow mentioned (and I have no idea how Krukow knows) that Nathan told Casilla that he was someone he could talk with, if he wanted Nathan’s help in any way. It seemed like Krukow was doubting that Casilla would take up Nathan on it.
Casilla should give Posey nothing but a knowing dude head nod no matter what he calls.
I am down with Nunez staying in the lead-off. Even if OBP was of substance, he and Span have similar numbers. But yeah, I like Nunie in the 1 hole.
Of no particular import, my roommate and I were talking giants so he dug into his 1982 Fleer cards and came up with these.
Brian Dozier, 39 bombs, that is all…..
I listened to Krukow’s call to KNBR this morning and caught that bit about Casilla too. Casilla always looks like he’s off in his own world or completely nutso so I can’t say that shaking off Posey is all that surprising.
Sometimes Krukow’s unbridled homer-ism is pretty awesome to behold. In addition to the Casilla tidbit he informed us that Samardzija has found something new in his approach. It all goes back to a new grip on the curve ball and his athleticism (of course – he played college football you know). “What we saw last night is what we can expect for the rest of his career as a Giant” I thought to myself, hmmmfff…that’s sounds fantastic Kruk!
wait, who played college football? Kruk? Or Smarge?
It’s a little known fact that Krukow’s first love was basketball. Additionally, he was originally drafted as a catcher and is quite athletic himself. That’s how he so easily recognizes Samardzija’s prowess.
Smardj played wide receiver for Notre Dame…
Casilla is gone next year. Bochy needs to manage him accordingly…
Talked today with a friend that was at the Monday game, the 6-0 disaster. She said the team was lifeless. There was a good contingent of Gyros fans behind the SF dugout rooting them on, which she said the players largely did not even acknowledge. Apparently pissed off a lot of fans. I know BF dismisses it, but she said there was a lot of fan talk and “I heard” kind of stuff that internally, the players really got pissed off by the Duffy trade. Hopefully the Flap contingent at the game tonight can give us a report on the team’s apparent place on the Dauber-o-Meter…
It may be a bit tough to get a read from the club level.
Look, I was as big a fan of Duffy as anybody but the players tanking the season because of it? Or they just got so mad they forgot how to hit after the AS break? Come on…
The Giants were well into the freefall with a 4-11 record since the break before Duffy got traded, so what’s their excuse before Aug. 1?
Nunie in the lead-off again. Specs gets another start at 2nd. And thank goodness…Suarez instead of Cain!
1. Eduardo Nunez (R) 3B
2. Angel Pagan (S) LF
3. Buster Posey (R) C
4. Hunter Pence (R) RF
5. Gorkys Hernandez (R) CF
6. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
7. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
8. Kelby Tomlinson (R) 2B
9. Albert Suarez (R) P
With all due respect to other Flappers, I think it is totally ludicrous to think that the Duffy trade has a big role in the Giants tailspin. I don’t buy that shit for one second.
Totally agree Chi,
And if anything his fat-ass cat was the main reason his fan base love was strong…
Good to see Tomlinson get some run after coming through with the game winning hit last night. I’m sort of surprised to see Belt back in the LU. He should sit another day. At least Brownie managed to get a hit yesterday.
Peavy’s off the disabled list.
The Bums didn’t self-destruct after the Ellis trade…
no but it was still a dumb trade that made them worse.
That makes 14 relief pitchers that the club is carrying.
Baggs reports that Gorky’s birthday is the reason for starting him but he got a knock and scored a run yesterday so keep him in there as long as old man Span is…old. Baggs also reminds us of that time in 2011 when the Giants sent Belt down on his birthday.
lulz. Poor Slumpy Shoulders. Bochy hates his ass.
Hey, he wept one time and made Bochy feel uncomfortably awkward on national TV. Bochy remembers stuff like that. 🙂
Passing on the game this evening . . . Long story, but short version is that I injured myself. Chi was very understanding and I feel real bad about missing the opportunity to see him and Unca. 😦
Ah, dang, that’s too bad. But health is the bigger priority, definitely. Hope you get well soon.
that sucks! Is it going to mess with your trip? I almost forgot about this mini-flapalooza. What are Chuck and Chuck doing out there? They didn’t just go out for the game did they?
Thanks Zum. Flav, I injured a muscle in my upper back yesterday while jobbing out all day at home – so hopefully, it is just extreme back fatigue and nothing else. Last night was painful, but this morning I felt better after taking more Ibuprofen. However, around lunch today, I was worse then last night. Consequently, I didn’t see myself sitting in a baseball stadium chair for at least 2 hours (and probably longer). I doubt it will affect my trip on Tuesday, but the way I feel at the moment, yeah, a 20-25 hour trip in an airline seat would not be ideal (without massive drug and/or sleeping aids to knock me out). Sigh.
The Mets are already winner, winner, chicken dinner, today.
I hate that saying more than any other saying in the history of sayings. You can keep saying it, don’t stop on my account. But it is the dumbest saying out there. Maybe if I knew the origin, that might help
It’s a third cousin to “Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire”…
Nunie-ball!
single–stolen bag—run. That’s the shit top of the order men do….
457 feet for slumpy…
If any of you follow Unca Chuck on facebook he had a vid rolling with Belt up and it’s uploaded to FB. Pretty cool to hear their reaction.
Like
Play the guys who are getting it done!
Fuck the contracts and egos!
Has Parker even had any starts in the OF recently? How about Mac W.?
i was surprised Mac didn’t get a start today.
Parker had a couple, I believe.
None for Mac that I can remember…
Looks like Chuck and Chi are in for a slugfest. This one could be a typical Coors 10-8 job or some such…
I like Strickland, probably more than anyone else here, but I really don’t want to see his string fastball get blasted into outer space tonight…..
It’s pretty amazing- in the last week or so, the Dodgers have started four rookie starting pitchers. Urias, Stripling, De Leon, and Stewart.
And the Giants are afraid to start even one.
30+ years of losing garners a lot of high draft picks. The Giants have shown they’ll promote pitchers that they think can compete. Take Stripling out of that group and the Giants don’t have comparable arms to bring up.
Nice to see Pence rounding into form.
some guys just have the dream of being a pitcher since they were wee lads. Take Smarge for example, he wanted to be a pitcher since tee ball. He stuck to his trade. Boom, dream realized.
Yeah, we all dreamt about it didn’t we? Samardzija was a great athlete as a kid. He lettered in 3 sports and even got a scholarship to play college ball.
Hell of a college pitcher. I’m just assuming I never checked his stats
I suppose it’s been said here tonight, but one cannot overestimate the importance of taking this series. Might it be — if it ends in a W — the first road series win since the ASG? Anyway, some torture is brewing. I’m getting ahead of reality. It’s a defect I curry favor to.
The Yankees are playing their best ball of the year. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I think I’d be happy for them to beat the Red Sox in the WC game if it came to that. Why? Because all the media peeps have assumed it’s all for the Red Sox, Ortiz, all that. The hell. Not so fast, bruh. That’d shock ’em.
Time for some Prudential.
Somebody tell me that Kelly was right to stop sign Pence from scoring with 2 down and 000 next up, who promptly flies out…
Pence would’ve been out from here to Tuesday.
Krukow’s commentary is almost conspiratorial, something we get to eavesdrop on. And I mean that as a compliment.
Good for Bochy.
Fuck everyone’s feelings.
This is business.
Casilla made too many location mistakes. Kept missing and putting the ball over the middle of the plate.
dreadfully so….he must frustrate Posey to no end
That’s almost haiku.
From Loo.
DP, s.v.p.
Augh…
Ummmm, bring in Nathan…
Can we please get a DP??
Joe nat for sure
Osich is fucking worthless.
Wow, Osich. That’s not helpful.
IDK. I’m a nervous wreck. This is what we’ve come to? Joe Nathan Redux???
Nathan looked great in Chicago
Path from from dugout to mound: The Bo Chi Minh Trail
Well said. 🙂
Joe nathan hit 93 mph at his age? Crazy
How the fuck could no one get under that???
Rockies announcer…”giants OF’s extremely deep” just as the ball hit the bat. Grr
ugggggh
unreal
Fuck. my. Ass.
Chi and Chuck may need to do some drinking after this one…
lol shit I just remembered they were there. Ugh. Awful loss.
This team officially sucks.
Flappers should not be allowed to attend games…
Bochy MUST remove Casilla as closer. There is no way he can keep trotting that phuck out there to close. The other guys screwed it too, but he got the phuck-me train rolling…
It’s not just the losing. It’s the way they lose, the utter lack of momentum, the terrible lead-losses, the unrelenting dispiriting soul-killing losses. FMH. Gnight. disgusted.
Damn you Chia Blade….you were supposed to stop this…
When they put Nathan in… that was the sign of being fucked..
Knowing Mets fans were rooting hard for this happen makes this especially galling.
times like these, a little humor goes a long way.

You know what stings the worst? The Twins are back to winning the trade. SMFH.
Is it just bad luck? Yes Casilla sucks..But listening to CR radio cause knbr wouldn’t load on mlb radio. CR Announcers…”Giant outfielders “extremely deep” just before blooper falls. next batter..the guy says “now the outfielders half to pinch in to try and cut down the winning run on a single”… If they play it straight up the blooper is caight, and then Pence catches the next one???FUCK!!!
Nathan is given a blown save, and Casilla gets credit for a hold. What a joke. Yeah, Casilla really “held” things together out there. Bochy looks like an idiot to keep using Casilla as closer. I’d demote the guy and be done with it. Bochy has a lot of well-deserved capital built up, for obvious reasons, but he’s managing like an idiot regarding Casilla.
100 percent agree.
Craig that’s funny!
i know.
i don’t fault Nathan much at all. He got whoever the fuck that was to pop out to LF. ANYONE gets to that. I don’t care how deep he was playing, Pagan got a shit jump and took a meandering path to the ball. Then with bases loaded 1-0 he had to come in to the last guy. Nathan’s stuff looked good. And he’s infinitely calmer than Casilla out there.

Tonight, we are all Salty in Clovis.
A month from now, we’ll probably just be rooting for the Dodgers to get knocked out of the playoffs.
Adrianza pinch-hit tonight in a big moment. That alone is laughable.
I’m on the train in being down on Bochy at times, but seriously, who else of the Giants relievers has been worth a shit the last 2 months that we could trust with a lead? No one else has stepped up in even a small way to take the job from Casilla. That’s the problem. Sadly for us tonight was an example.
Of course Nothing I hate more than a guy getting 2 quick outs and then Bochy pulling them for the stupid as fuck lefty righty thing he loves so much. EVERY reliever used or warming up in every game. No trust and tired arms. That’s on Bochy…
I agree. No reason to pull the Fresh Wince who was doing fine…
No one’s really looked the part, but then again no one’s been given a shot…
I somehow expected the worst after my daughter’s college soccer team lost today to the Keystone . . . Giants.
Last thought to prove previous point..Each starter went 5 innings. CR’s used 3 relievers , we used 8
I have no words anymore.
Probably cause I want to puke!!!
No really watching Casilla groove the 0-2 fucking any Flapper could hit to Arrelancho to start out the 9th I knew we were done!!
Fuck I hate this guy a lot more then Armando Benietz!!!
I think it was a 1-2 pitch, but it really doesn’t matter. 1-2 is just as bad.
You’re right zum. I looked at the MLB highlights. 1-2 pitch. Posey had the target low and outside, Casilla grooved what looked like a fastball down Broadway just above knee high. Total gopher ball pitch to a guy who doesn’t miss “hit me” pitches. I don’t know how you can throw that kind of pitch to this guy. Absolutely pathetic. Nathan’s pitch wasn’t much better that got clubbed for the game winner…
I’m with zum. Bochy not only “looks” like an idiot, he IS an idiot running Casilla out there again and again. Bochy has a lot of capital to burn, but damn, he’s made a hash of a lot of moves this second half. WTF is he waiting for on Casilla? The guy is gone after this season. Is Bochy afraid the guy will go south on him if demoted? Who gives a shit? Put ANYBODY in the 9th to start a save, but NOT Casilla. 0-2 on Arenado, and he gives up the dinger. I’d like to have heard Krukow for real between commercial breaks about Casilla. If Bochy puts him in to start a next save opportunity, then Bochy is certifiably insane…
