A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

And On The Seventh Game……

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on November 2, 2016

No better time for the Cubs to extend their record of suckitude. Maddon is riding Chapman harder than Stix riding hoes in the whorehouse after he finally gets released. Ok, I reached for that one…..

Anyone watching this game tonight? What sweet irony it would be if Cleveland blew a 3-1 lead….

Am I wrong? The first inning last night was the first I had seen since about mid-way through Game 4. Didn’t it sound like about a third of last night’s crowd were Cubs fans???

Maybe not that many but they were loud as hell during that first inning. If all these Indian fans are selling off their tickets, I am almost going to say fuck the Indians then if a sizable chunk of their fan base would rather sell off their tickets than attend a championship clincher game they have been waiting for since ’48. Or if there were that many seats available just for purchase that Cubs fans beat Indian fans for those tickets, then still screw the Indians.

If the Cubs fans repeat their numbers for Game 7, then I am rooting against the Indians rather than for the Cubs…sort of like the presidential election…

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on November 2, 2016 at 6:33 am

agreed. I don’t fault fans selling their tix if the team sucks. If they can make back a good chunk of their season tix cost in one game (happens all the time in the nFL) then I applaud their good business sense. But this is the world series. If you aren’t going to these games, why own the tickets? Just to make a few bucks?

It’s finally sunk in with many fans that sports really is a business and they treat it that way, too…

Cleveland had the third worst home attendance in all of baseball this year. It’s not like they came out of nowhere either. They were considered division contenders right out of the gate.

The Giants signed Josh Johnson to a minor league deal (coming off his third Tommy John). I know these “what the hell” minor league contracts happen all the time, but coming off a third Tommy John?

maybe it’s because in HS it was only time I usually got into a game, but watching garbage time is kinda fun.
Last night in warrior’s game a guy for Portland hit 5 3s in 8 minutes (after Blazers were down by 30 something) and wound up with 17 points. Very cool.
Saw the highlight reel of Curry getting his 23 pts in 3rd Q, from all over the floor last night. Also very cool– 5 standard quick release 3s from distance, back door cuts to hoop for layup and driving cross under along baseline and 1.

    • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on November 2, 2016 at 8:25 am

I’m a fan of “garbage time” also Willie. I think Marv Albert might have coined that phrase way back when the Knicks were great in the early ’70’s. Later on, he started to pronounce “garbage” with a French accent. When the Knicks would have a big lead in the 4th quarter, the MSG crowd would chant for an obscure center named Greg Fillmore (Fill-more! (2 claps) Fill-more! (2 claps). He would get a huge ovation when they brought him in.

      • willedav's avatar willedav said, on November 2, 2016 at 8:33 am

yeah, something funny like this often happens. Remember “Nice News” Newmark? At a Warriors game in Oakland (Clyde days) I heard group on Knicks fans one night calling for Ed Mast.

There was one team in our league so bad I got into the game in first half. 4th Q I went back in and shot the ball first time I touched it, without even looking—baseline J that hit side of backboard and went out of bounds. Then I hit 2 Js and wound up with 4 points…turned out to be career high.,

I usually got a good amount of minutes per game in my high school basketball years, but then I played one year of junior college ball, and I was a classic “garbage time” player. In close games, I never got in at all. That was a new experience. But, ironically, that junior college year was more fun than some of my high school seasons. The team was a great group of guys. One of them went on to play pro ball in Portugal for many years, and was a star player over there. When we went on road games, for dinner we got MEAL MONEY from the school. How cool was that?! We all felt like pro players because of getting meal money. lulz.

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on November 2, 2016 at 12:06 pm

Do visiting MLB players get a post game clubhouse spread, too? In addition to road daily meal money? I’ve never really thought about that until just now…

      • gianthead's avatar gianthead said, on November 2, 2016 at 4:24 pm

  6. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on November 2, 2016 at 12:03 pm

I was already for the Cubs on NL grounds. Now, even more since it looks like Indians fans are more into cash than seeing their squad stop a 70-year drought. Cub fans are showing their support in cold cash and going on the road…

Is Stix being held without bail?

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on November 2, 2016 at 4:21 pm

I believe the effect of the federal court’s order last week was to place Stix without bail in “detention” pending trial (a federal criminal-law term of art google can explain better than I can). This is the heart of last week’s order:

“The Court concludes that the Government has shown by clear and convincing evidence that no combination of conditions can reasonably assure the safety of the community. The nature and circumstances of the charged offense are serious. Law enforcement agents were deliberately targeted and shot at and
could easily have been killed. Defendant has been charged with a crime that carries a 10‐year mandatory minimum sentence and a maximum sentence of life.

“The weight of the evidence is strong. The clearly marked federal helicopter was shot over Defendant’s property. When the Clearwater County Sheriff deputies arrived at Defendant’s home, Defendant was the only person on the property and he admitted pointing a rifle at the helicopter. When asked if he fired at the helicopter, he stated that “it was law enforcement’s responsibility to determine if he fired it or not.” (Tr. 19.) During the execution of the search warrant, a loaded rifle, a spent cartridge case, and 178 marijuana plants were found on Defendant’s property. (Id. 19‐20.)

“Defendant has a long history in to the community and no known history of violence.

“The seriousness of the danger to the community is high. The fact that Defendant is more than 70 years old and has health issues does not diminish his threat to the public because he was of [sic] shooting at law enforcement. Defendant was capable of accurately hitting the helicopter, and the helicopter is still not
operational. (Tr. 8.) Defendant is fully capable of using a firearm again.

Accordingly, based upon the files, records, and proceedings herein, IT IS HEREBY ORDERED:
Defendant Carstie Lee Clausen’s Motion to Reconsider Detention Hearing [Docket No. 24] is DENIED.”

The same federal court order referred to the separate Minnesota state court charges against Stix (the attempted murder, etc.) and noted that bail had been set there at $150,000. But the federal court proceeding presently takes precedence. And a long history in the community and no known history of violence didn’t impress the federal judge. Sorry for the long post.

      • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on November 2, 2016 at 4:42 pm

What a bummer. It’s so stupid that they say he has no known history of violence but they’re now using this one episode against him. Like he’s gonna go start firing away at someone/something again. No fucking way. He did something stupid but he’s clearly not a threat to the community. He never has been.
