Name That Giant!
I can’t fire the retro Stix posts back up because….I just can’t. And we obviously need something to get the blog through to P/C’s reporting. So from here on out we will play “Name That Giant”. First one correct wins the day, I’ll keep a running tab of who’s in the lead. This obviously favors the early birds. I made today’s fairly easy, depending on how quickly this guy gets guessed will impact future croppings.
First up: Who is this?

Oh hell, I don’t know! WAG – Mike Krukow…
Only 12 daze until pitchers and catchers report.
Looks like a 1b mitt or is that a cathers mitt? Definitely from the 70’s. I was either not born or was way too little to remember.
Garry Thommason? He played 1st & OF and was a lefty iirc. He was part of the All Gary outfield with Gary Maddox and Gary Matthews.
Johnny Lemaster
He’s a lefty, Sarge
This picture looks like it was taken around the year I was born. I’m just throwing something against the wall and seeing what sticks. Outside of the hall of famers, I couldn’t name many Giants before 1988 or so.
DOH. I swung and missed on the lefty aspect. That would have taken my guess (Krukow) out of the mix.
It looks a little like Darrell Evans, AKA Howdy Doody.
Baseball nicknames are pretty rough sometimes.
Loo from the last thread: “And it is the year of the rooster…”
Yikes! 🙂
On the MLB Network Hot Stove this morning they did some analysis of the NL West. They pointed out the Giants have done well against the Dodgers, head to head, but it’s the rest of the division, of course, that keeps getting steam-rolled by the Dodgers. I thought it might be a little different last year, with Greinke going to the D-Backs; but no, Greinke had an atrocious first-half of the season, including getting absolutely lit-up by the Dodgers.
Hey, watch-out boys…I am a Fire Rooster. Cock-a-fucking-doodle-do!
Not related to the “troll” bambino fan, Rooster. 😉
It’s Gary Thomasson.
From Sean Spicer:
No. That’s Darrell Evans. If you disagree, you can leave the Flap…
Props to Lurker and Blade but UncaChuck got it first! Unca: 1 Everyone else: 0
Actually, I didn’t see Unca’s post . . . Did see LJ’s and found the image you used online (after I saw LJ’s answer).
In short, I had zero idea who it was.
I got it from the email notification. Thomasson was one of my faves from the 70’s era, so I guess that made it easier. I haven’t got a clue for today’s guy.
Fuck you, Unca. 😉
Hah! I don’t remember what i had for dinner last night but I can tell you Chris Speier’s rookie stats.
Did anyone guess Ken Rudolph behind Thomasson?
For those of you that have ESPN Insider, Keith Law has a Giant’s top prospect report that has some interesting stuff in it. It was sent to me in an Email and it is pretty long so I’m not sure if I should copy it here, but I will if someone wants to read it.
I would love to read it, John. If nothing else, send it to my email: chipower9@hotmail.com.
On it’s way. Chi.
Me too . . . blade3colorado@yahoo.com
On the way, Blade.
Now that’s a fucking good call.
Hah! My big advantage is waking up at the crack of fuck-me to catch bart.
Shit, the All Gary outfield rivalled the All Alou outfield. Sort of. The fact we had Maddox and Matthews in the same OF with Bonds is still crazy to me. This was when they traded George Foster.
That was the fastest OF we ever had!
Bobby Bonds RF Garry Maddox CF Gary Matthews LF,
They would eat up all linedrives at ATT for sure!
Love your Waking up to Fuck me to catch Bart quote Chuck Roflo…
Cool article on MLB
1. Dodgers-Giants
It’s a rivalry loaded with history, and I’m talking about recent history. The Dodgers and Giants have finished first and second in the NL West standings in four of the past five seasons, for crying out loud. Los Angeles has four division crowns in that span, while San Francisco “only” has one … to go with its three World Series championship rings. The Dodgers have mastered the art of depth-building and 162-game-grind survival, while the Giants have mastered the much-more-enduring art of saving their best ball for fall and absolutely terrifying their fellow October entrants (if you get a chance, ask Joe Maddon how he felt about the potential prospect of a Game 5 winner-take-all in the 2016 NLDS with Johnny Cueto looming).
Sorry on my iPhone will only let me copy a paragraph at a time
That these two will do their best to get in each other’s way en route to October is a given. The projections once again love the Dodgers to win the West and, as usual, see the Giants as capable of another Wild Card shakeup (if FanGraphs’ projections are right, this time Madison Bumgarner will start the NL Wild Card Game at home!).
All projections aside, we know the baseball gods like us because they gave us three Clayton Kershaw-Bumgarner matchups in 2016. But if they love us (and how could they not?), in 2017, they’ll give us what no prior postseason has — a Dodgers-Giants series on the October stage.
Kev – why not just share the link to the article?
It was from the MLB app on my phone,
Yeah been busy at work to post!!
Definitely Gary Thomasson!
Darrel Evans is butt ugly with a pot mark face that shouldn’t be allowed on a baseball card…
I wonder if he grew to like that Howdy Doody nickname. I think his teammates just called him “Doody.”

Yeah, but he could hit the bejesus out of a baseball. Another one of my faves from an otherwise forgettable era.
The contest is biased in favor of you ancient goat Flap fans…☻ is that a racist emoji???
It depends on who says it
Good point…strikes me as a little close to the line.
Contest is also east coast biased as you guys say a lot. Coincidentally, Thomasson is part of a well known racially-based trivia question about Game 6 of the 1978 World Series…
I can tell you right now, all of the players will be coming from the 70’s. Some time next week I might bump it up a decade.
Welp if that’s the case, I don’t stand a chance.
somewhere along the way I will slip a Rikkert Fanyete in there so stay at your post at the ready. 🙂
Sitting in Lefty o’Douls for one last round and one last dinner.
One last round/dinner?
I’ve had a few skinks in that place. Wish I was having one with ya unca.
Yeah. Sad sad sad.
Leftys is closing tonight. The owner and the mgr are in a fight. All the fucking memorabilia is off the walls.
That’s awesome you’re there tonight Chuck. I read about its impending closure. My dad and I would go there on every one of my trips back to The City. Got to know some of the bartenders pretty well over the years. Frank O’Connor, the longtime piano man is a legend. Many a drunken night was spent signing along to his version of Danny Boy.
The Handelry guy that owns that whole block (along with the Hotel with the same name) is really trying to fuck the owner over. He screwed him over on the Gold Dust as well. Long live Lefty’s!
Yeah the oldntimers were here. Talked to leftys nephew for a bit, reminiscing.
Aw man, that stinks. I was there once on a visit to S.F. sometime in the 90s. I might even have a coffee mug from there.
Lefty O’Doul opened it in 1963 and filled it eith tons of Giants memorabilia. It’s cafeteria style dinner with a couple bars.
In union square
Reuter was howdy doody too.
Nevermind he was woody. Catching s buzz here.
hey, I got nuthin’ going on tonight, keep posting.
John, thanks for sharing the Law analysis of our prospects. Is it just me, or does it seem like we really don’t have any impact prospects? He definitely doesn’t seem high on Arroyo or on our success with international prospects, saying:
“Angel Villalona and Rafael Rodriguez took in
over $4 million between them and never advanced past Double-A,
with Rodriguez retiring in June of 2015 and Villalona still
playing after missing several years due to a murder charge (he was
eventually acquitted) in the Dominican Republic. The latest flop
has been Cuban outfielder Daniel Carbonell, who got $1.4 million
in June of 2014, was kicked off the 40-man 15 months later, and
hit .284/.348/.384 as a part-time player in High-A San Jose last
year.”
lulz
Anyone catch the ‘Imbecile In Chief” (Trump) paying tribute in the present tense to Frederick Douglas?
Trump also announced he is looking forward to reading Anne Frank’s next book, whenever she releases it.
I read that just now, blade. About Douglass.
Drumpf turned a talk on Black History Month into a diatribe about himself.
He is an absolute narcissistic moron…
I’m at the point where I can’t deal. I’ve called my congressmen, senators, Kamili Harris, and anyone who will pick up. It is up to the fuckers n place to stop this disaster. The Democrats have to grow a pair of hairy balls and stonewall everything.
Until Garland gets in, fuck Trump and gorsuch.
I don’t see how this country can survive 4 years of this putz. Not only is he a fascist fool, but he may be a damn Russian plant. I thought Nixon was bad. I’d take Nixon in a NY second over this Drumpfahole…
Walked my daughter through the tenderloin and got her to her car. Leftys was too packed to eat so i scarfed a double bacon death bomb at Burger King on Powell. Come claim my corpse at the end of the line in Piitsburg.
Too bad about Lefty’s closing. Why do things have to come to that? People need to check their emotions at the door, and think. Is the world better with Lefty’s there, or not?…
There’s nothing wrong with eating at Burger King now and then.
Relax, Chuckie – don’t worry about Trump.
You could use a nice NY Flapalooza…
lol, I’ve always wondered what was at the end of the line in Pittsburg
Drumpf insults and hangs up on the Australian prime minister, the head of one of our closest allies.

I’ve got a long-time friend over in Queensland, Aus. He emailed me the other day and asked what the hell is going on over here? I told him that “alternative facts” were going on…
One of our closest allies? What did they ever do for us? Fuck them and their prime minister who I wouldn’t know if he was sitting in my lap…
Loo, if you don’t consider Australia one of the closest allies of the US, I can’t help you with that. Google the history. For an American president to insult the head of the Australian government is just batshit crazy…
Maybe they’re allies on paper. When was the last time they stepped up?
Bunch of kangaroos and whores on beaches…
Sounds like fun to me….
And they run a helluva good major tennis tourney.
Stunning tennis this year, eh?
Ditto to Paul, ‘roos and aussie whores sounds like my crowd.
Oh, gads, it’s late and I am bored. But blessed as spring sun and training will be here after a busy Feb of hiking day trips.
