Choking? Or Winning?
And now we have to listen to how great Tom Brady is for literally the rest of our lives. Nobody wants to talk about how stupid Kyle Shanahan is. It’s 4th and 1 and you stick Ryan in the shotgun AND a five step drop? AND he fumbles? I’ll give Brady his due because he was given opportunity and he didn’t screw it up but that was the biggest choke job in the history of sports…..
We were running fast and furious here at the Flap last night. Lots of players picked. Some incomprehensibly missed. Hints were fired off with abandon. After the dust settled, this is what the scoreboard looks like:
Loo 12
Diggity 9
Wilco 9
Blade 6
Chuck 4
Kat 3
MacDog 2
The Solo Crowd: WillieD, Clown
And now for this morning’s Name THIS Giant:
(I’m off work today so expect this place to be riddled with “Tom Brady like” opportunity)

The Caveman, Don Robinson
Negative. But I almost did him
Wouldn’t know who that was if you showed his whole face and jersey number…Atlanta choked, after that amazing catch by Julio Jones, they gagged up the rest of it. The Atl defense was on their heels in the previous drive and Brady just carved em up. After they made that first 2 point conversion that was it the Falcons played like they knew they were done.
Marc Hill?
Shit, the Atl defense was on the field most of the 4th quarter. Yeah, if Atl falls down 3 times on the 25, they win. Bad situational football by Shanahan there.
Gotta fault the HC there, too. After the jones catch, he could have said run three times and make the Field goal. Do that, they win. Idiot move not to do that…
Yeah agree Snarkk,
Your down on the 35, 3 runs eat the some clock up kick the FG and your up 11 ballgame! Stupid decisions cost their asses the game..
Rob Deer
Shit that’s a winner SanDog!
Rob Deer 🦌!
Boom
Pirates redo OF alignment with Cutch moving to RF…hmmnn, if Giants current RF can’t stay healthy that would be first place I’d look. Pirates have a kid they really like (Meadows), are paying Cutch big $$$$ and likely chasing WC at best.
Damn! Rob Deer! For a second I thought it was Chris Speier.
I’m playing like the Falcons. Fast start, shit down the stretch.
Only seven daze until pitchers and catchers report…eight for first workout.
Fun facts: Brady not only Calif HS guy on SB rosters. Cal tied for most with Texas/FL.
Edelman is from near flav’s neck of woods in woodside
Alex Mack is from San Marcos HS in Santa Barbara
Dashon Goldson from Narbonne of harbor city (south LA. coached Asian traveling team that played there and locals warned us not to stick around by dark)
Harper of Falcons went to de la salle
Personally, I like Brady, and I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that he was a bay area kid who grew up going to games at Candlestick, just like most of us here.
He went to my high school and I can’t stand him. Well, I won’t go that far. I just think he’s gotten more than his fair share of luck. Atl could have picked off 3 more of his passes last night, and Atl’s inexplicable greed late cost them the game.
Charlie – I think a lot of folks who are hard-core Niner fans have a problem acknowledging Brady. I don’t…I have always liked the guy and a lot of that has to do with what SanD mentioned…he is a Bay Area guy. I don’t know how to respond to the luck comment, but the dude is definitely one of the best all-time QBs. Screw the “best ever” debate, as so much of that is subjective. But, bottom-line, if I was coaching a team for one game to “win it all” Montana is my guy every time.
Romo pitching well prior to signing with Bums.
http://m.dodgers.mlb.com/news/article/215232376/sergio-romo-gets-another-big-league-chance/
Apparently, the Rays, who have a scout at the Caribbean Series, and the Yankees also made a strong push to sign him. Wishing him and Casilla the best, except against us. They both were good Giants and I hope they don’t come back to haunt us.
Jack Clark
The gold lettering is weird with the Stick in thew background. I’m going Timmy.
Timmy never set foot in the Stick, Chuck. Its definitely JC—from a 70’s baseball card. I remember it well.
i was hoping his sinewy frame would have thrown you off. But no. Put another one on the board for DIGGITY. Loo better get going. SD woke up rested and focused.
Yeah, I know. I kew you were right with Clark. I don;t remember us ever having gold lettering before the WS wins.
Bill mueller?
no but I love that you are participating in the game now! I did Rikkert Fanyete for you but I guess you weren’t around when he came up
Hahaha, and you told me you were going to put him up there. I was busy and couldn’t play when you put him up, but I did see it.
Are we still in the 70s? Or are we all over the place? I know this guy but I can’t place him.
Aldrete
Carlos Beltran?
Very bummed to see I missed Yamid Haad last night. I was on the road coming back down south. After the Patriots settled for a FG and the score sat at 28-12, I thought the game was over and left the party I was attending to start the 2.5 hour ride home. Didn’t even bother finding the game on the radio right away. Once I did, I couldn’t believe what went down.
Unca– all over the place. Gh and blade: no
Vogelsong?
No. Outfielder
Dude kind of looks like Steph Curry to me. There is something familiar there, but I got nothing at this point.
Armando Rios?
I’d agree.
I considered him too, but I don’t think that’s him.
Yeah, pulling that one out of LF so to speak. . . I’m running low on OFers in my head,
I think I woulda got Manny Trillo had I been here . . . I worked with w guy named Manny Trillo when he was on the team.
Barring catastrophe, Adrian Beltre will get to 3,000 hits this year, and completely nail down his Hall of Fame status. He’s had a nice career that I’ve largely missed, because he’s played so much in the AL. I think Pujols gets to 600 HRs this year. Because of the crack-down on steroids, it looks like no one will ever catch Bonds for total HRs. A-Rod was the last that sort of had a chance.
Beltre is at 445 HRs, which isn’t too shabby, either.
The Falcon players will be wearing that loss for years, until the Falcons finally win a Super Bowl, which could be a very long time. As we all know, there’s no guarantee a team gets back for a while. The Dolphins, with Marino, were certain they would get back again.
Chuck got it, that’s Armando Rios
Wtf I thought your 9:50 post said no outfielder on that pic? 😕
It said no.and the there was a period. And then there was a hint
Rios???? Who is next Agent 0000??? Aldrete was close…
Ellis Burks
Still Ellis Burks on the new face up there..
I love reading about all the Patriot fans (including Mark Wahlberg) that left the stadium early and missed their comeback. Hotel: $500 a night, Super Bowl tickets: $5000, leaving the game early and missing your teams greatest comeback in Super Bowl history: priceless.
Shit! BURKES!!!
Kat got it.
He looks like Vogie
But that’s not my guess
Steve Scarsone?
no. But I like that you were trying to go back2back
Mike Benjamin?
Good lord, not even close. Just googled him.
Brad Wellman?
no to everyone currently guessed. No hint yet for this guy, his entire face is showing. That should be enough.
Easy for you to say . . .
doesn’t it just FEEL like he’s gonna end up back with us?
MLBRosterMoves @MLBRosterMoves 58s58 seconds ago
More
.@Twins claim INF Ehire Adrianza off waivers from @Brewers; designate RHP Pat Light for assignment.
That’s how Loo and I feel about Pablo.
Now, for some reason I see that happening.
No, just no, NOOOOOO!!!
Where the hell is Loo? I know we call him Draculoo for a reason, but this is getting ridiculous.
Gary Brown
not gary brown.
ok i guess it’s time for a hint. This former Giant liked to swing for the fences. Rarely did that work out, at least at the mlb level……
Dang, now I know who it is. Shoulda waited for the hint
Diggity’s go-to move is to lay in the weeds. It’s a strategy that can pay off.
Damon Minor
That was one of the 3 I was thinking.
nice.
There are like 3 Giants this could easily be.
I’m loving imagining how quickly some of you head to the comment section to guess if you think you’re sure of who it is….and if you’re not sure you either lay in the weeds or throw out a guess with a question mark. This has been a fabulous way to kill time the last few days.
Renie Martin
Solid.
I almost didn’t say anything because I thought you used him already????
no he was guessed (incorrectly) by Diggity at some point. With so many pics and guesses flying around each day it’s hard to keep track. I do have every pic still saved in the image section of the blog. I wonder what would happen if I try to post them all at once? Oh well, I’ll find out when the game is over next week.
The leader of the Bowker gang himself. John Bowker.
he had to show up at some point.
BBOTD is updated. It’s amazing what you can get done when you take a day off work.
This is another guy that could easily be one of 3 Giants.
Bill Lasky?
Laskey.
Negative.
Laskey would have been my first pick. I am glad I didn’t say him.
I’m actually gonna be impressed if any of you remember this guy playing for us. You def know who it is tho
Dan Quisenberry?
nice. We now have a tie for second place. I have very little recollection of him as a Giant. Nearly none.
Marvin Benard
negative! But I can see why you guessed that.
I just did a test new thread with all those photos uploaded into one thread and it looks like it works. That’ll look cool when we finally decide to end the game.
Hell, I have to get at least one
I don’t know when we’ll end the game but I can promise this: Sarge gonna be on the board before it ends.
Mark Carreon!
nice that was a hard one……Also, I want to go on record NOW as saying I think Shanahan looks like a douche. Doesn’t look like a guy who can lead men into football battle. I hope I’m wrong.
Rich Gale
no. But I always liked that dude for some reason. I just checked and he really does look an awful lot like Rich Gale, nice guess.
Cory Snyder?
Milt May
boo ya! It is indeed Milt May
This guy looks like the young Nick Nolte.
Ken Oberkfell
shooting up the leaderboard my man!
Edward Gusman or Guzman (sp)?
close enough. Edwards Guzman.
Bad pic of jt snow?
i recognize the current pic is a hard one. Cropped that a little too close. He’s a pitcher.
The Count?
no
Shanahan…. I’m not a 49ers fan, so it matters not in the least to me, but it was curious to read some Shanahan quotes after the Super Bowl (I didn’t see the live interviews, if that’s where the quotes came from) when the media asked him why, with an 8 point lead with about 4 minutes to play, didn’t they just run the ball, run off the clock, and kick the field goal, instead of continuing to pass, which resulted in sacks, penalties, etc. that took them out of field goal range. Shanahan seemed to keep insisting they were already out of field goal range, which wasn’t true. Was he truly not aware of the correct field position? Or was he perhaps covering up someone else’s play calling decisions? He didn’t sound overly intelligent or articulate about the whole thing….
I mean, he’s got the whole field in front of him to look at. I can’t believe he didn’t know he was in FG range. Who knows? Maybe the pressure of the game got to him?
If the pressure got to him, that’s not a good sign for the Niners….. of course, I guess they’re probably a few years away from even sniffing the Super Bowl again, so….
Allen Ripley
No.
Your killing me BF! Lol 😂
The cave man, Don Robinson
Nope.
ok, i’m gonna make that pic a little bigger
I’m not even in this, but following along is more entertaining than a Casilla AB.
Life in coaching: Couple nights after picking up career W #1000 in front of home crowd filled with adoring fans national broadcasters and former players, VanDerveer loses to a league team that hadn’t won at Maples since 1999 and gets knocked out of first place tie.
Art Garfunkel?
Jim Willoughby
Ron Robinson
Blade I like your style on that guess, but this Kat never played with the Giants, but then again I’m drunk as skink so maybe I’m wrug
You’re right AK . . . Got him confused with Don, but the photo of Ron was so much like the one that Flav posted that I wanted to get it up there before someone else beat me to it. I found out a few minutes afterwards, he played ONLY for the Reds and Brew crew.
Elias Sosa….lulz…word!
But when I looked that name up, I learned that Steve Stone pitched for the Giants…never heard of that before…
