Yikes. 11 games out? Swear to God, today was the first time I’ve checked to see how many games out we are. Not good, but not impossible, especially since it’s still May. Surprisingly, I don’t see our ragged relief core as the main problem. Their collective ERA of 3.97/WHIP of 1.39 is right there with our SP’s ERA of 4.57 and WHIP of 1.30. Imagine if we had Romo and Casilla still on the team. You add their ERA together, you get 12.30 and anyone who misses them….come on, you don’t really miss them.
The next month is going to be all about Cueto, Melancon and our outfielders. Our place in the NL west will be determined by the health and success of those guys……
@knbrmurph and @pcon34 are confirming that Bruce Bochy did indeed shatter his phone throwing it after the loss yesterday in Chicago.
I just cursed a lot by I was ready to punch an old tv 📺 it’s better then a new one!
Ump really stunk all night, he was consistently bad for both teams those so you just have to hack even if it’s a foot in front of the plate..
I think Bochy behind closed doors is a lot different than the face the public sees. I think he’s encouraged by what SF has done vs. good teams but playing just well enough to get beat is irritating.
Okert and Kontos that screwed up yesterday, along with other set up guys, have to figure it out. Melancon I think is fine and just needs more chances for a save and W.
I contrast Dodgers kids and bench–Bellinger kid is in LU most everyday somewhere and is hitting .284 with power and a .600 slugging pct. The Taylor kid that killed us before is hitting .326 with .560 slugging. the Toles kid they were starting in OF was doing OK too til he got hurt. Instead they’ve plugged in these 2 to fill holes.
Giants have to get all the dead weight off the bench and get way more out of reserves. Figure out who can really help going forward and plug them in and those that are puro scrubini have to be let go.
Couldn’t agree more about are reserves Willied! Wasted bunch of non production.
And wtf do you pull the whipping boy out of the game and put Morse in at 1st?If they did so how tie it up to possibly go extras you really want him over there?
Sac report: Specs (leading off and playing CF) with second consecutive 3 hit game
Slater and Hwang 4 hits/5 rbis btw them triple for Hwang hitting with more power this month
Shaw kid promoted to play some LF, Hwang might get more time at 1b.
Once homestand starts look for roster moves to add Hill and Gameface at least…see who goes.
I hope Mac stays. AB yesterday vs. elite closer like Davis shows me he has potential with power to both sides of field. I think he can be part of the solution, as opposed to lot of guys they’ve used so far in OF.
That ab was terrific. Davis dominated him to get the first two strikes and then Mac adjusted and battled beautifully. Taking a nearly perfect knee high outside corner pitch into the oppo bleachers was a helluva graduation ceremony, wind assist notwithstanding. I knew the guy was strong, I didn’t know he smart too
114 games left. If we win 2/3 in every series the rest of the way SF win 95 games. So if you assume a few 4 game series the we split ( assuming a win today)… The boys have there work cut out for them. 90 wins usually is WC close. 92 wins safer. If they compete like the last 2 weeks it will still be a fun season.
.500 is a pipe dream…
Doom-Da-Doom Doom…
Beat that drum, Loo!
I am putting this shit in my pipe and smoking it to see if there are any psychedelic side effects. 😉

@FlemmingDave told us yesterday that the lack of offense is their primary issue over the pen
You can’t go to the playoffs with an offense this feeble, unless the pitching is like 2010. It isn’t…
They dug themselves a huge hole. The numbers say this team has a snowball’s chance — at the 2nd WC spot. To even get to that, they need to upgrade the OF/bench, and the Pen has to be more consistent. Glad to hear Bochy threw something. Maybe he can come in to take the 8th inning…
It irks me that Tomlinson hasn’t been on the big-league roster all season. The goal should be to always have the best 25-man roster possible, and the Giants haven’t been really committed to that this season, from the owners on down.
Totally agree. I heard something the other day on KNBR that Tomlinson had something like 300 Mlb at bats, and was at .294. The guy can play several positions. He’s a ball player. Why he isn’t up is baffling. It’s not even close between him and Gork, IMO…
Tomlinson was up this year. But I think it sucked that he was sent down. He had like 25 ABs this year for the big club before being put back on a slow train to Sac.
Hill and Gillaspie will have to displace someone and they’ve been laying the ground work for Arroyo to be sent down. Any news on Preacher Gimpy?
The word is another week, but I’m skeptical about that.
On the national level, the Giants exist as kind of an after-thought in the NL West division at the moment; but this 3-team race between the Rockies, Dodgers, and D-Backs is shaping up to be real interesting.
The MLB Network was floating the rumor this morning that the Dodgers have an interest in Verlander; which would depend on how Detroit is doing at the trade deadline.
They can have Verlander. He might help this year but that dude is getting farther and farther away from the best years of his baseball card. Starting next year he’ll still have 88 mil coming to him and he’s just like Pence in terms of drawing a direct correlation to him scoring a hot chick and a decrease in production.
Yep…they can have Verlander…the guy I want off that club is JD Martinez. I know he was on the DL for a bit this year (not sure what for), but the dude is lighting it up this year:
.364, .533, .909, 1.442, 6 HR, 12 RBI in 11 games and 33 AB.
CF Denard Span (L)
2B Joe Panik (L)
1B Brandon Belt (L)
C Buster Posey (R)
SS B. Crawford (L)
3B Eduardo Nunez (R)
RF Justin Ruggiano (R)
LF Mac Williamson (R)
P Jeff Samardzija (R)
Being a two star athlete, Samardzija should be used to playing in the cold weather.
Baseball and?
He was a WR for Notre Dame in college…
Last nights ending game strike 3 call should be reviewable. A manager should have 2 protests a game of a ball or strike call that he feels has a real impact in the game. You have the umps in NY go to the computer vid of the strike zone to confirm or reject the call. If Panik swings at that high outside pitch, he swings through it or maybe pops out. Totally bogus…

Lineup change. Nuñez out, Arroyo hitting 8th.
You know it’s bad when Williamson is hitting in front of you. The only thing worse would be hitting behind Parker. Nuñez with a leg issue?
LOL for the commitment to the Parker-bashing.
I wouldn’t see any point in sending Arroyo down. He’s got nothing to prove at AAA. He needs to experience a lot of major league pitching. The kid is confident in his abilities. Let him have this season to figure a lot of things out. The Giants are not likely going places this season anyway.
i totally agree. Figure it out up here. I don’t get it when people start talking about confidence and self esteem eroding and all that. Shit, if I was slumping at the big leagues and they sent me down and I started raking AAA pitching that wouldn’t improve my confidence. If anything, it would make me feel worse, like I could do it at the lower level but not the big league level……
Worked big time for Conforto – but I guess it’s a case by case thing…
I don’t know, zum. Arroyo was really broken down by Hendricks and Lester but it’s not like the club was lighting them up so maybe that isn’t something to get too alarmed about. He’s got 30 Ks to 8 BB over 100+ abs so he’s staying aggressive I guess.
If they send Arroyo down, they really prove that to be a prospect you stand little chance of making it unless the team falls apart completely around your position. Panik was grudgingly brought up after the Uggla disaster and he stepped right in. Sure Arroyo’s young, but he’s shown enough to stay. They should be putting all the 3rd basemen in the OF to get them reps. If Adam Duvall teaches them anything, it’s that they should be a little more flexible with where they play these guys.
At some point, with his average plummeting, you have to consider his confidence. Yeah, he has shown something, but he’s now at .195. He’s not a machine, it has to be eating at him, undermining his confidence. If you’re the G’s, when do you decide it’s better for his long-term success to send him to Sac?
It’s just ridiculous that Specs isn’t on this roster over Dorky.Specs has baseball instincts you can’t teach that idiot. Point in hand, last night in the 9th when he pinch ran at the ball bounced away from the catcher and he froze. Specs easily reads that play and is standing on 2nd!!
Have not read through today’s comments, but circling back to last night…those are the types of fucking games that drives me to wanting robots calling balls and strikes. That ump SUCKED ASS! He was so fucking inconsistent (and with both teams). The only thing he was consistent on was being inconsistent on calling balls/strikes.
Get a win/split and come home with a winning roadie.
someone on KNBR this morning said Willie McCovey got sent down in the middle of his SECOND season. Matt Williams, too. So I am not saying it couldn’t benefit him. Just considering that it might make things worse.
They wouldn’t be sending him down as punishment. They’d sit him down and tell him he just needs to go down and work on some things, get his stroke back, then he’d be back up with the big club. I hope he gets hot and starts figuring it out, but he’s been facing some tough pitching. It’d surprise me if he’s starting to doubt himself. With the guys coming back, the Giants are going to have to make some move.
If he’s not starting to doubt himself.
Hey Willedav, Panik moved over a runner from 2nd to 3rd!
Ha yeah saw that following along msn site, runner advanced.
Hope he’s better hitter than .247 and like some others can pick it up on homestand.
Doubtful it would’ve been overturned, but that HR should’ve been reviewed anyway.
The dearth of homegrown OF talent in the Giant’s system is mind-boggling. They just don’t draft highly-rated outfielders. Ever. Mac fucking Williamson is a joke. You need a single there, dude, to plate 2 runs in a game you need to win to have a winning roadie. That’s it, a fucking scratch single, a seeing-eye grounder, a Texas Leaguer.
Who here was confident he’d deliver? No me. He still looks overmatched against a career minor league pitcher.
If you are an outfielder and you get drafted by the Giants, you must be so bummed. Career over before it even starts.
So why is Chris Bosio covering his mouth. To protect against the lip reader the Giants have in their dugout? “Alright kid, throw strikes.” Top secret stuff!
WTF Span.
DeFuckingIdiot.
I wonder what Bochy broke over that?
Eddie Butler is the great, great, great grandson of the late Cy Young. He’s a lot like his great, great, great granddad, but with a better move to first.
Man those Young dudes must of been studs in heat.Isnt Steve Young part of Brigham Young’s sire???
i’m not watching the game so sorry if announcers have already hit this, but Smarge has 41 K’s this month and zero walks. That is incredible.
I’m listening to the Cub’s broadcasters and they haven’t said anything. That is amazing. He has 5 more today and no walks. I don’t know if the 41 includes those.
He just walked his first guy since 4/28.
Christ.Send the kid down. Bring up the Hwanger. We need something other than this dreck. We seem to have one week of good hitting and 3 weeks of shit.
Lead-off runner instantly erased. Amazing consistency.
This offense sucks. I have to question the competence of a front office that runs these jokers out there and expects anything less than disaster.
Span 6-4-3. Just leave this POS in Chicago.
Bochy may not survive this roadie.
Fucking Keystone Kops.
Be thankful all you who are at work today.
Looks like I picked the wrong day to work from home. And Turn on the TV. And quit sniffing glue.
Wow. Finding new and exciting ways to blow games.
. . . and tottering.
“You load sixteen tons, what do you get / Another day older and deeper in debt…”
How much longer before the Giants realize the Bochy has lost it. Worst record 2nd half last year and just about worst record so far!!! Need a new Manager!!!
I’m not going to disagree that the Giants might need new leadership but what is he doing that is particularly irritating you? Do you think another manager would do better with this shit collection of hitters?
Maybe not better result but he’d try harder and something different and more aggressive/creative. 2018 is the time for field management turnover…
Butler 4-0 in his career against the Giants. He’s 4-16 with a 6.72 ERA against all other teams.
Did you use your calculator to figure that out?
Enough carbs to put you in a diabetic coma…
Arroyo down to .191 after going 0-16 in Ron Santo Land.
I really do think he’ll eventually be a solid ML player, but he’s gotta do down now…
Williamson and Gorkys are both batting .160. They get to stay?
can’t send down half the team…..
Gorkys is an embarrassment. Seriously. How long can that go on? That’s so bad, I’d take Blanco back as a substitute, and that’s hard for me to say…
Sonny Randle died (for you very old football fans). The first football I ever owned had his simulated autograph on it and fake molded plastic laces. It was pointy, hard as a rock and hurt like hell no matter where or how you caught it.
In cold weather, the thing was like a deadly weapon…
I remember that guy with Charley Johnson Cards. I had a football card game he was fast wideout for them with Bobby Joe Conrad. Spent some time with Niners too.
Looks like I was fortunate not to see/hear this game today.
At 20-29, this team is at a lousy .408 clip, even after the recent uptick — .500 over the last 10 tilts. Add in last season after the AS break, and it’s something like 30 games under .500 since then. That’s a baaaad trend, Flappers.
So, we know this team as constituted is going nowhere. Management should use the remaining games to try out players for next year. No need to keep plugging in dudes like Gorkys that will be playing in Japan next year, or next month. Make use of the opportunity to see what you’ve got that’s near MLB ready, or maybe not so near, but might blossom regardless. They have to trade Cueto and get prospects. I think that is very doable to the right teams. Before his velocity goes down more, and he becomes a blister waiting to happen. Put him on DL for blister proofing and get some rest, then showcase him afterwards before the break to max his trade value…
I just don’t get how anyone thinks Cueto is tradable. The only way I see is to take back a contract almost as bad in return. Send him to Boston for Panda and a good prospect – everybody wins…
he’s not trade-able with herpes all over his hand. He’s gotta get that straightened out first.
Cueto has an opt-out clause after this season, major reason why he could be traded. He can essentially be a free agent and sign a fresh contract after this year, unless he chooses to stay with the Giants and lock in the final years of his deal.
I also agree with sentiment above, and reiterate, this needs to be Bochy’s last season, regardless of outcome. Too long on the captain’s deck, too much comfort with front office, too many red wine yuk it ups post game. Maybe he’s doing it, but I doubt Bochy is yelling at Sabevans to do something radical to upgrade the dreck outfield they’ve provided. Time for the other field management to go, too. I’d keep Decker, maybe Rags. Break up the comfort zone for this team. I think a more active, energetic management crew could get a few more wins out of this team. More important, the new management crew needs to start fresh next season. Blach, Beede, Arroyo, Shaw, Ryder Jones, Slater or whomever, the team needs new blood and energetic management. Get this pathetic ship dry-docked, stripped down, rehabbed, and ready to set sail 2018 with a new captain on the bridge, and a lot of new crew members…
Suggestion for manager: El Presidente
they will give it to Wotus, 100% guaranteed……
Somebody tell me why teams don’t bunt all over the place against Lester. The guy cannot throw to first. I’d bunt every damn guy in the lineup right at him to freak him out…
Re your 7:09: Blanco 3-4 with a HR for D-Backs tonight.
Prototype of a “good Giant”…
Blanco just did that to rub it in. 🙂
Cardinals look ragged against the Dodgers tonight. They’re just not all that good of a team. I can’t see them making the playoffs unless several teams collapse.
Collapse? It’s still May, lmao. Redbirds 23-20, stilll a loooong way to go. Playoffs??!! Are you kidding me??!! Playoffs??!!
Well, we’ll see how the Cards do against the Rockies this weekend. Should be interesting.
The Cards have good starting pitching, but everything else about their team is meh, at best.
The Cardinals were not a playoff team last year, and I don’t see that changing this season.
Rockies not going away, they can mash.
It just seems to me like the 5 playoff teams in the NL are already clear-cut. All the other teams are too flawed, unless they make some major transactions, or a devastating injury happens to a key player, like Goldy for the D-Backs.
It’s just so damned early, Zoom. A lot can change over the course of the next few months, you know this.
