A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Unwanted

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 19, 2017

As the trade pieces start to fall around mlb, we sit and watch no one want any of our players. Maybe dumb Nunie. He might go. I keep praying Brandon Belt and his maddening inability to hit a fastball will go but I’ve accepted no one wants him either. We are stuck with basically everyone who is here, blisters and all, this is your team.

Anyway, I can’t be emotionally dragged down by any of this nonsense right now. Del Mar opens today and while I won’t be there, sadly, this is one of the great days of the year. This is the most beautiful sight in the world to me. To each his own I guess:

The great Wilco Joe sent me these 2 pics. Kid looks like a gamer. Murph looks the same as he did in ’54. How is that possible?

Shit, I miss the 9 hole golf course in the middle of Bay Meadows, Russell Base, and the incomparable horse Hoof Hearted.

Yeah that 9 hole course was fun to play!
Made a nice killing once at the track with Russell Baze, who’s usually always the favorite but not this time, I was watching the horses in the Paddock and noticed this horse “My Runaway ” take a huge dump before heading out( think Baze smirked as well) so I figured he had to be lighter& happier now!
Put a $100.00 down at 25/1 and sure enough he won going away! Drinks were on me after that!🍺πŸ₯ƒπŸΉπŸ»πŸ˜ŽπŸ€

I can’t remember if I wrote last week about running into Gavin Newsome and talking Giants and both of us shaking our heads…with win last night, Bochy 9 over .500 right????

Another loss last night would have put him just 7 over and on the precipice of a free fall to below the Bochy Line…

I’m just seeing the Frazier trade…the Yanks are going to play him at first??? Good luck with that. Still think they may still be interested in Belt. Frazier is a free agent after this season and they don’t have to pay hin past this year and could then easily afford Belt….

The Durocher biography is very interesting. He was kind of a Zelig of baseball. He won a championship playing with the Yankees during the Ruth era. He won a championship playing with the Cardinals’ Gas House Gang, with Dizzy Dean.
As a manager, he was with the Dodgers when they integrated baseball with Robinson. He was with the Giants when Mays arrived. His career arc reminds me of Dusty Baker’s, with all the things Dusty has experienced as a player and manager. Their personalities are different. Baker’s the better person on a personable level. But both were right there when amazing baseball things happened.
Dusty just needs that championship as a manager to cap it all off. Durocher got his in ’54.

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on July 19, 2017 at 11:13 am

Dusty’s bizarre management of his pitching staff, which continues to this day, will likely mean no championship for him.

  8. Macdog's avatar Macdog said, on July 19, 2017 at 11:25 am

If today’s any indication, Yanks still need a starting pitcher.

  9. dirtnrocksnomo's avatar dirtnrocksnomo said, on July 19, 2017 at 11:32 am

At this point, Samardzija is who he is and moving him would be good but the uncertainty around Cueto is probably too much for Booby to handle. Plus, I remember something about how Samardzija really wanted to come to SF and worked with the FO to make it happen so there’s the Good Soldier aspect to it too.

I’d be more interested to see them offload Span in anyway possible.

Flav, to answer your question from above, my son loved the ballpark. We were so stoked about the field club access to the walkway where the players walk past us that we never really made it anywhere else in the stadium. At one point Willie Mays came out of the Giants locker room (I told my son he was likely there to give the team a pep talk) and got into a golf cart (you can see it behind Murph and next to that is Dave Fleming in the shades) and drove right past us. I was in such shock, I couldn’t even get my phone out of my damn pocket in time to snap a pic.

OK, the reasons of why you just say no to Sandoval are endless. The first one would simply be the Giants already have like 9 3b. With so many other positions of need, why the F bother with one more longshot?
Baggs had a column on this with about 5 preconditions laid down by SF. Among others, his conditioning is supervised and monitored by the Giantss and he starts like in the AZ rookie league or somewhere far removed from ml baseball.

sometime over the weekend the pregame guy asked Pavs about it, and he said NO it’s not happening—too many bridges burnt on the way out that were definitely remembered in clubhouse. I don’t think he fits anywhere near Posey’s HonkyTown.

Cheesy carnival act…hey, can’t be any worse than this year’s circus of horrors…

I was initially against the thought of bringing back Pablo, but WTF…look at this fucking house of horrors that is this year, and tell me why not roll the dice. As Flav mentions, and I agree…if for nothing else, for the pure entertainment value.

And I am with Blade…I would take Melky back in a heartbeat over Panda…if for nothing else to see the MelkMaids again…

BTW – Melky’s stat line for the year:

    360 AB – .286, .330, .425, .755 – 12 HR, 54 RBI

That would lead our sorry-ass team in RBIs, be 2nd in HR, and 5th in OPS…

Sando’s last halfway decent season was 2014, 3 yrs ago, .740 OPS, far cry from earlier years and a harbinger of downward slide to come.
Nunez can do that, so can Gillaspie given regular ABs and neither won’t ever have to weigh in.
Honest, I’d rather watch Hwang for rest of season to see if he is worth keeping around as RH bat off bench.
    So there’s 3 for a start.

Agree, Willie, but as Flav said…this season is shot…and I would go see him play for the pure entertainment value. And who knows, while it is highly unlikely, the fat fuck may catch lightning in a bottle…

      Roll the Dice…

just seems so odd, Chi. Sentiment against him when the contract deal went down ran about 10-1 here, if not more. Level of vitriol about him after the comments he made was pretty high, and not just here either. Most everyone seems to laugh at the guy for how sorry he’s been last 3 yrs. Now is different?

Down with what you said Willie. Panda was heading downhill in his last season here. I was totally against re-signing the fat turd at his exorbitant initial asking price. Equally important, he showed his true colors when he left for Boston (as AK indicated above).

Thanks for the stats on Melky Chi. Even more adamant about taking him, especially since we have a dozen stiffs at 3rd base already. We need to work on replacing the 3 zombies in the outfield we have.

I’m down with willeD and blade. I said years ago I’d talk Melky back in a heartbeat. His leaving lacked class, but he didn’t bust the chops of teammates. Panda actually publicly verbalized insults to teammates, but that’s apparently OK. I’m resigned now to the Giants PR machine coloring this organization’s moves. The only baseball reason to bring him to AAA is that the rest of the minors must be so bad, it makes sense to try a guy who has been a total bust for 3 seasons. If he does go to Sac, and they start selling Panda hats, we’ll know the real reason he’s back…

A lot of panda hats to unload.

Don’t get me wrong. I do not like the way Pablo left, and threw damned near everyone on the team under the bus. But, I also believe in forgiveness.

WTF…this is low cost, and it isn’t like Mr. Fat Fuck would be blocking anyone.

And as I mentioned earlier…while the possibility is slim (unlike Pablo), there is chance he catches lighting in a bottle…

Blade – YW re: the MelkMan’s stats. And I agree that the priority needs to be the OF and fine-tuning the BP. But this is such a low-cost proposition, and as I said, he isn’t blocking anyone, so giddy-up and give it a try. If Pablo gets signed, and brought-up, and fails miserably, at the minimum it will provide cheap entertainment and grand fodder for Flappers around the world…
