Pablo
So what did everyone think of the Sandoval comments? That was a pretty long interview. When they asked him what he missed the most about SF he immediately smiled and said “fan support.” I believe that if he’s going to re-start his career it will start with that long, lost fan support he has missed for the last 3 years. He’s just one of those guys who needs it.
This is a great pic from last year’s NY Flapalooza. Two have on dark shades but it’s technically outdoors so I can live with it. π π π

I wish he would’ve said “the restaurants”…
brilliant!!!!!
He may not get the support here that he thinks he’s gonna get. He pissed off a lot of fans with his bridge torching when he left. My attitude towards him is largely indifferent. We’ve seen this before, the trimmed down Pablo. Let’s see how long this lasts. If I care about anything, it’s whether or not he can still hit.
Good post. The Giants are so bad, that I can’t argue with anyone that says this is a minimum risk (salary wise) taking a shot that he can catch lightening in a bottle once more. He probably won’t, but what the hell – give it a shot . . . I think Pablo ranks behind Hamilton as the worst return on a contract insofar as money left on the table. I think the Rangers brought him back after his face plant with the Angels, but they weren’t able to get anything out of him.
Similar to Sarge, I could give a rat’s ass what he says. What matters to me is:
How he is accepted by his teammates,
And most importantly, can he hit and field.
You know I’m sick&tired of players in all sports who rip their former teams, former players, even fans and then magically are excepted back with their usual BS apology when they say: oh I never meant to say this are that I was just frustrated when I ripped all my teammates a new one,but their get over it and it won’t effect team chemistry one bit..yeah whatever.
Passionate, sincere post AK, Respect it.
If he gets 150 AB and goes around 6/25/.280 with adequate defense, he is your 2018 opening day 3B.
A 30 year old baseball player is considered smack dab in the middle of his prime…
Agree, Loo. Last three years have been in decline, so odds are not in his favor.
Like I have said since this surfaced as a possibility a few days ago, this is low cost/risk for the Giants, and it is not like he is blocking anyone.
Roll them dice… and hope they don’t come up snake eyes.
It doesn’t even really matter what happens. He won’t save a lost season, but may raise his stock.
The fans will embrace him unconditionally.
correct
I don’t think anyone believes he’ll be the savior of the season. This is a low cost look/see to see if he’s a piece for the future. Odds are extremely long against him, IMO.
Speith gurfs one of the worst drives ever. 80 yards right. Yowza.. I missed the first few holes. He dropped 3 strokes?
He’s basically choking which I didn’t think he’d do. That was one of the wildest drives I’ve ever seen a pro hit, major or otherwise. That’s something I woulda hit back in the day.
Why isn’t Spieth just going back to the tee?
I’m not going to question Johnny Miller but if you find your ball are you allowed to go back to the tee? It’s not a lost ball, it’s just unplayable. I thought you had to take the unplayable and do that line of sight thing he did that took 20 minutes.
I’m rooting for him. But’s it’s one of Magnus’s thoroughbred LONG shots. It will be awkward at best, tinged with nostalgia and regret. He’s not going to re-create the past. I’ll root for his renascence. But, as said above, he ate crow only because he had to. The WORST thing of any apology by a public figure, or anyone, is to say you MISCOMMUNICATED. Horseshit. But, good luck, Mr. Sandoval. Does he get #48?
Okert was wearing #48, Pawlie, so I guess it’s available since he was sent down yesterday…
See where Romo went to Tampa Bay? Rooting for him, too … but . . .
Spieth is easily my favorite golfer. He’s honest with his feelings (his reaction to good and bad shots is refreshing) and he is probably the nicest guy in the world (watching him try to calmly and respectfully direct traffic on that sand dune was hilarious). And, he’s a fucking stud golfer. I really hope he can come back from this (hopefully) bogey
Spieth actually reminds me a lot of Steph Curry in terms of how he conducts himself, how he presents himself to the public.
This struck me as kinda funny:
“Sergio Romo : Traded to Tampa Bay along with cash for a player to be named later or cash.”
Dodgers : “Here, please, just take him… c’mon we’ll even throw in $$$ if you take him. Yeah, yeah, you can pay us back later, just take him…”
true
rooooster:
Have you read CHASING WILLIE MAYS? It’s dedicated, in part, to a Dodgers fan. I had the publisher send a copy to Vin Scully.
Have not read it yet. Going to camp out at Refugio State Beach next week. I’ll get it from my local library to take with me. Thanks, pawlie.
not likely to be at the library, anywhere, even my local branch, despite my ardent, best efforts… Be a happy camper.
what a comeback. He gets that impossible bogey and then almost fucking holes out that par 3. INCREDIBLE
to me it’s more why bother? can he play? well Red Sox didn’t think so based on what they saw in 3yrs, which cannot just be ignored like it didn’t happen.
Nunez is a passable enough 3b/740 OPS guy and they have Arroyo waiting in wings. since it’s unlikely they move Panik or Craw and Arroyo costs nothing, where would he play? Trading Nunez isn’t going to bring back much either. Is this setting up Arroyo to be part of a deal?
With so many other things to do, dumping off under performing high salaried players/fixing OF for a start, 3b seems low on the priority list.
Wonder what’s up with Strick. He has great numbers and appears to be using off speed stuff better. Worth trading or better off as pen mainstay?
Willie, the Houston paper was mentioning potential relievers the Astros might be targeting. None of the guys mentioned has playoff experience and not one guy in the Astros pen has playoff experience. Strickland checks that box. I think he would be a great addition to Houston.
yeah. I doubt we’d get much but he’d be a great fit in Houston
Strick’s playoff experience? as in giving up bombs to Bryce Harper that Strickland resents 3 years later??
he gave up a lot of high profile bombs in the 2014 post season but he also got some very important outs.
ha, and then 10 minutes after I compare the two check this out:
I don’t think I would say Spieth is choking. His driver play has always been his weak point and it’s showing today. Kuchar is on that list of “best player to never win a major” so it will be interesting if he can avoid choking down the stretch, which he has been known to do.
well, his comeback from the fucking practice tee, and then the birdie, was incredible. “Choking” was too strong of a word. But he has played his worst golf of the 4 days today and that’s why I said *choking*. I love Spieth, I’m rooting big time for him.
Agreed. Me too. I have never cared for “rosey cheeks”Kuchar.
I can’t stand the “Kooch” the crowd shouts after every single fucking shot he takes, regardless of outcome. Plus, he’s only 39 and he looks 49
Ha! Very true. When he takes his hat off, he looks 59.
i looked up his age about an hour ago. I was like, “I know I’m older than this guy but he looks at least as old or older than me.” Boom, incredibly 39
Damn. Gutsy bird there.
What a fucking putt by Spieth!
eagle. Incredible. He’s amazing.
and Kuchar with the sandy birdie. What a finish.
Holy shit. That’s a putt.
and the “look at it!!” to his caddy after he made it. Awesome.
Tiger had the fist pump and that was pretty much it. You get something honest and new after nearly every single one of Spieth’s shots. He’s fun to watch.
I’m not against yelling “Kooch!!!” after he does something good. But these mindless idiots say it every fucking time. They are like the Atlanta Braves fans with their tired chop
Speith’s putter is on fire.
Kuchar can’t hang with this. Spieth is going other-worldly since that crazy ass drive.
Does it seem like almost every putt by Kuchar is short?
playing it safe
agreed. He doesn’t ever play aggressively.
Birdie eagle birdie. Shit. Speith should leave the driver in the bag.
looking forward to the interview after he wins. It will be significantly better than the one Muscles Koepka gave after he won the Open while his girlfriend was shuffling him off to go fuck her some more back at the hotel.
I also can’t stand the guys who yell “You da man!!!” after every drive in the States tournies. If I owned the golf course and you yelled that and it turned out to be a bad shot, you would be hastily ushered off my course to the parking lot
I haven’t heard that much lately, but “Get in the hole” is pretty annoying.
that’s at least attaching itself to some realistic hope. But to declare every golfer *the man* with no care about the outcome of the shot is reckless in my opinion.
caught some of Lurie yesterday AM before work talking with Baggs. Baggs mentioned Strick and Gearrin too as possible trade chip and danced around the clubhouse issue.
Supposedly Robertson was the guy Yanks really wanted in ChiSox trade. A lot of contenders would be up for strengthening their pen I’d imagine.
Is Strick part of solution to pen going forward or part of problem of unreliability?
Tommy Kahnle, the other reliever Yanks got from the White Sox, has been very impressive the couple times I’ve seen him.
Too little, too late for Koooch.
it was nice to see him make one and justify the “Kooch” calls that came shortly after.
This is one of the most incredible final back 9’s of a major I’ve ever seen. Spieth is a one man wrecking crew.
When he needs it to happen Speith turns into Tiger in his prime and just” field dresses”the whole field..
If Clive Brown had spent as much time on taking care of his teeth as he did on this speech, he might not be stuck with the grill he’s got.
Lol…Thinking the same thing BF
Looking at that gap reminds me of the movie “Speed” when the one cop said “Theirs a gap in the road ahead”
man, there are NO solid rumors related to the Giants and the deadline right now. I guess I should stop dreaming.
one of the MLBTR stories has the Sherman guy from NYPost proposing Mets trade including them dealing Duda to Yanks. Aren’t Duda and Belt similar quality guys? Belt has bigger contract, Duda would be a rental.
thought Evans could have made deal with them earlier Belt and a pen guy or two for OF prospects.
We got the obligatory Myers HR over with early.
kinda felt like the ball game there, didn’t it?
let’s hope there’s no more from Hector who is even worse hitter except vs. Giants.
Belt has literally no chance of hitting the high fastball vs this guy.
It’s just flat out embarrassing how bad Belt is at hitting a fastball. If you are a first baseman that should be your bread and butter.
So that wasn’t a joke that we signed Panda????
I can’t seem to buy that he will be an everyday starter or an impact player…
yes, he was at the ballpark yesterday. Headed to Sac, will get 50 or so at bats, see what he’s got left
posey picks his buddies up.
leadoff double nunez and belt strike out. arrggh.
I fell into the trap last year of defending Belt to friends based on his numbers and relative to all other 1b in baseball…then slowly had to acknowledge he can’t hit that fucking high fastball. If there is ever a key at bat and a pitcher is worth his contract and can deliver that high fastball accurately to Belt, he will never be able to hit it…
Belt’s complete inability to hit the fastball combined with his constant “walk seeking” is beyond frustrating.
excellent comment.
pads taking BP off blach here.
You know what an absolute piece of shit season (or game) it is when you choose to paint instead of watching your team get their asses handed to them, again…
Maybe they’ll pull a rabbit outta their asses again, today. Hey Rock, watch me pull a rabbit outta my ass!
SMH…
Gomez looks mildly promising just because he does LOOK like a ball player. He’s a little short (but so is Altuve). I dunno, he’s only 24, whatever, might be worth something. Glad he’s getting to play here and there
Bochy looks absolutely miserable. And they have no chance of winning this challenge.
it’s amazing to me that we are what? 3 years into replay? And the guys we have in charge of calling for replay are still stupidly throwing the challenge flag on shit where there is not clear and convincing evidence to change the original call. It’s like our guys are just guessing.
Krukow’s definition of “gamer babes” has gotten……pretty loose.
The Giants are facing a young guy they’ve never faced before, so you knew how that was going to go.
It’s probably the hitting coach’s job to try to help prepare the batters with knowledge of that day’s opposing pitcher. We aren’t awesome at that.
Dumb Nunie strikes again. Down 3 runs, that was a reckless and pointless attempt to get to 3rd.
Something’s up with Kershaw. He left after two innings.
back tightness.
you park-blamers need to stop blaming the park
I have NEVER thought it was the park. It’s that WE SUCK…
well then you aren’t a “park blamer”
This shit is hard to watch. WTF, will watch the final inning and then go watch my paint dry…
I can see today’s game losing out to paint drying.
3rd to the 8th innings already did.
.
Jansen blows the save! That’s worth a chuckle.
that was not a fun game to watch……
but hey, Jordan Spieth, huh!
The Giants are now 6 games behind the Padres. The Padres have won 9 of 13 from the Giants this season. Clearly they are the better team, with some promising young players. That’s something for the Giants front office to contemplate.
Sure. Myers, Renfroe, Blash, I would take all 3 of them over any of our hitters except Buster. Hands down. And I’m considering contracts when I say this, and that does matter.
I opted to mow the lawn over watching the Giants, so that’s progress.
I think Pablo plays for San Jose tonight before going to Sac-town.
Aurilia on NBCSports Bay Area talking about Nunie being our one good trade piece. Nunie is in a similar boat as Strick. He has some value but if you trade him straight up you aren’t going to get much.
this chick might have had a better time today than we did watching this boring ass game
Didn’t hear the game at all. They lost again, OK, whatever. Anybody traded yet?
I spent time cleaning around the house, and looking at German language vids on youtube — going to Europe for Christmas and New Years. Trying to wake up some of my old German from when I was there many years ago.. There is so much stuff on youtube — essentially any topic — people have video on it. The German ear is coming back watching these things, plus there are hot German babes constantly on this one channel I’m watching, uh learning from. There was one chick in Heidelberg, Charlotte, she spoke so fast I couldn’t get much of it yet (there are subtitles), so I’ll have to watch again. And, again. She was freakin’ unglaubliche hubsch. Lecker….
I wince. I don’t even wanna know. They could lose every game, I don’t wanna know.
anyone know why Dave Flemming wears dark shades indoors during The Wrap? Is he just a Stanford asshole or is there a better reason for this?
Since I’m from Cal, I’ll go with some of each..
I love me some Cardinal but that place is crawling with assholes.
Fleming was wearing shades in the field club tunnel at the game I was at. You can see him in the background of the photo of Murph and my son.
Murph AND Flem in the same photo!!!!???? Arguably my 2 favorite non players in the entire organization.
There are a lot of things that piss me off in my day to day life as today’s comments about “you da man!” and “Kooch!!!” indicate. Guys that wear sunglasses indoors….I don’t like those guys.
I spent a fair amount of time around of Loo last summer day, night, indoors and outdoors and he never had shades off for a second. Let go of the hate Flav!
I’ll take this under advisement, weigh the pros and the cons. Guys that wear dark sunglasses indoors have always been a huge deal breaker for me but I have great, immense love for Loo. If sunglasses on indoors is how he rolls, I can accept that. I cannot accept Flemming doing the same on tv. He looked like a classic Stanford asshole and that’s actually who I think he truly is in real life. Sorry.
Well, there are reasons…
MLB base running is flat-out awful. The A’s had a couple blunders today vs. Mets, Nunez had his usual brain fart, and then there’s the Mariners pinch-runner getting picked off 1st down 2 runs with no out in the 9th vs. Yanks.
the Giants got shit for Estes. Desi Relaford and Shingo? What the fuck? I’ve been doing a slow burn about this for years.
Relaford never played for the Giants. They flipped him to Seattle for David Bell, so it worked out pretty good. I never cared much for Estes, particularly after the infamous base running gaffe in the playoffs…
Yeah, that baserunning mistake and Dusty letting Gardner bat in the 5th inning with the bases loaded, 2 outs, down by 2 runs, in the elimination game. Those are the two things I remember most about that playoff series.
thanks, I didn’t remember that. I did like David Bell a lot. Gamer.
still, he was a lefty who was still decently in his prime. Leftys get a lot of run, even after they’re done, especially starters. I think they could have gotten a lot more. Turns out he sucked the rest of his career outside of the 15 game season he had in Colorado. But still, trade chips are trade chips, and Bell and Shingo didn’t cut the mustard for me when considering what he should have brought.
Giants as a seller are trading from a totally weak position. This team is terrible, boring. Like BF says, weak, slow and the rest. There is no reason anybody can’t be traded, and that includes contracts. If they really wanted to right this ship, they’ll get creative, eat some salary and get some prospects…
it’s weird, I’m watching a show right now on NBC Sports BA, they are doing this thing on the ’97 team. I forgot how many of those players I loved and if I could have given Darryl Hamilton one piece of advice it would have been to not marry some dumb ho who tried to light her last husband on fire because she thought he was cheating on her. Sadly, that was advice he was never able to get….
Anyway, the show brought up the time when Sabean showed up and traded Williams and how controversial that was at the time. There was also the huge trade with the White Sox in ’97. What happened to that bold approach Sabean used to have????
Also, Kuip’s hr calls used to be much better, he’s really slipped.
Very sad about Hamilton. Same thing happened to Steve McNair and Phil Hartman. And Sam Cooke.
she shot him inside the front door of their house and then killed herself with their 13 month old still in the house. Back in 2008 she burned down her house and ran around after her husband trying to douse him in gasoline trying to light him on fire as punishment for cheating on her.
I wonder what that dude is doing today?
Can’t stand Belt and his whiffing ways and walking tendencies but his commercials are top notch. He’s a really good sport.
Shooter getting out of that jam by striking out Ziele and then getting Murray to hit into that double play, with all that old dirt they used to use flying around the plate at Candlestick, man….what a moment. Dusty’s strength was to believe in his players and you could argue that’s not really a managerial skill. But it worked for that team and I’ll never forget that year. 1997 was a very pivotal point in my life and that season matched it in terms of a year I’ll always remember as long as I live.
Reading the Durocher biography….I’d forgotten he was the manager of the ’69 Cubs who choked away a big divisional lead to the “miracle” Mets.
Most of his Cubs players hated him. He was yelling and belittling players, as the team fell apart at the end of the regular season.
zum that was a common theme throughout, huh? Even when he won, good times didn’t last long.
I think that’s a thing about the screamer types–at some point it’s value has gotta wear off.
Beck went 3 innings that game. I didn’t remember that. What a game.
https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SFN/SFN199709180.shtml
This *RAW* show they show after the game that’s just the most important pitches of the game? This is just an awful and offensive way to watch a baseball game.
Craig I was at that 97 game vs Dodgers. A friend had great tickets. 10 rows up behind 1st base dugout. Flew in for the game. best game i have ever seen. Until WS game 2 in 2010!!
That’s awesome! I remember listening to that game on the porch of my house with the chick I was planning on breaking up with shortly. So it wasn’t all awesome for me that day. We had fish in a small pool outside our house. Three fish died that day. I took that as a sign it was time to let Noel go…….
Foe fun i just watched the homer. Tried to see my brother and i in the crowd but couldn’t. shots too quick:) Can’t believe it has been 20 years
if you’re just talking about power hitters, this guy is spot on. And Posey is not a power hitter, don’t come at me with that
I saw Baggs had tweeted that Myers vs. 4 other Giants HRs at ATT stat earlier on cbs site and Brisbee forwarded it. Embarrassing to say the least.
Craw has 2 HRs at home and 1 triple anywhere all year and Kruk lately has mentioned how low his OB is…seriously worried about how bad his contract, next 4 yrs at $15 mil+, could turn out to be.
How many defense first guys can Giants afford to pay that kind of money to? Just don’t see any reason he should be untouchable.
they have a bunch of mostly untradeable guys because of their contracts and the fact they just aren’t worth those contracts. Belt and Crawford are both in that boat.
1997 was the year I moved to Austin from the Bay Area. It was a turning point in my life. I remember watching ESPN and seeing the highlights of that Brian Johnson game and going ballistic because I wasn’t there. That was the first and probably last time that I truely regretted leaving California. I turned 21 the following week, set out on my own and the rest was history.
Jena Sims responded to my tweet today. I win.
Nice!
