A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Another Freebie for LA?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 14, 2017

Unfortunately, this looks like an easy one for LA again. I know, I know, I’m running out of games to keep saying that. But the Cubs are pretty beat down after a tough series with Washington and then a cross country trip that went sideways and didn’t see them get into LA till yesterday mid day. Yes they have time to rest but the schedule has been disrupted, their pitching staff is pretty burnt up and this just isn’t setting up for momentum going into Game 1. Plus, Kershaw is rested. He gets a lot of shit for his post season failures but he’s never come into a start with this much rest. He will likely dominate tonight. Irritating, I know…..

It just seems like the Dodgers are catching every break this season. They’ve played well, but the breaks are also going their way.

I think Duke Ellington said something about always having good breakfast, because you don’t know when you will have another opportunity to enjoy a meal.

Giants got Alvin O kinda late in his career and like others he put up worst numbers at the Stick—.298 without a single bomb in ’84, not a good year to be a Giants fan.

It’s unwatchable but this is Roberts shot at payback for the beat down LA took last year to eventual World Champs. They were up 2-1 and lost 3 straight, getting shut out 5-0 game 6 clincher with Opie going down again.

No question he’s got a good enough team and Cubs don’t seem near as dominant as a year ago. So now that he has one under his belt can he negotiate managing in the playoffs vs. old fart with a ring?
Lose and no one is going to give an F how many times you’ve won the division or how many games you won in regular season.

    • sandog's avatar sandog said, on October 14, 2017 at 9:59 am

I think that’s silly. If it were true, what would they do? Spend more money? They already spend a ton. Fix the ballpark? I wish. Trade guys who are untradable? Not happening. We’re stuck.

Cal’s beat down on Motor Mouth Mike Leach and his crew was first win since 2003 against USC over a top 10 rated team. Maybe Wazzoo overrated a bit, but they are a good team. Bears defense roared up and forced 7 turnovers in the smoke. I heard first half (Joe Starkey torture), only saw game highlights. Cal finally has a young coach in Wilcox that looks like he has an idea. Plus, he’s got a very solid staff with a couple of ex-HCs adding to the coaching mix. This team is not going to make as many mistakes as under Dykes. A lot of times, as we Giants fans know, if you just let the other team make mistakes, a less talented squad can take it. This is only one game, and a totally unexpected win let alone blowout win. But, still the biggest win for Cal since a long time. BTW, this Friday night Pac 12 games is bullcrap. The visiting team is at a big disadvantage, plus it’s just plain wrong…

    From Wikipedia:
Grits are a food made from corn that is ground into a coarse meal and then boiled. Hominy grits are a type of grits made from hominy with the germ removed, which is corn that has been treated with an alkali in a process called nixtamalization. Grits are usually served with other flavorings as a breakfast dish, usually savory. Grits originated in the Southern United States but now are available nationwide. Grits are popular as a dinner entrée, shrimp and grits, served primarily in the Southern United States. Grits should not be confused with boiled ground corn maize which makes “hasty pudding” or “mush” or when using coarse ground corn, which may be made into polenta, or the “mush” made from more finely ground corn meal.

Yeah, wllco. I live in Houston for 3+ years. The food types available there are pretty damn good. It’s not really “the South” there yet IMO, but pretty damn close, especially as you head east toward the Louisiana line. Almost makes up for the town being sucky in a lot of other ways. We used to go to the Bistro Provence on Memorial, it’s still there according to Google Maps. I think that was the name of it when we used to go there 16+ years ago. Really great French bistro food, at least back then it was. Stews, casoulets, moules, roast duck, foie gras. Definitely worth a try if you’re out in that area. That and Americas were our favorite eateries…

    • sandog's avatar sandog said, on October 14, 2017 at 4:40 pm

Yeah, I was thinking about that too. If he handles throw there, 3B coach (Oakland’s own Gary Pettis) would be catching major heat. I love aggressive baserunning, but that was borderline loco with 1 out. 2 outs with Chapman on the mound—I’m all in on sending him. Ball got cleanly cut off without even reaching the warning track—and he sent him coming from first and not running on the pitch!

Did Judge throw to the wrong cut-off guy? That play looked weird.

      • sandog's avatar sandog said, on October 14, 2017 at 4:48 pm

I think he might have airmailed the primary guy and Didi tried to salvage it.

    • sandog's avatar sandog said, on October 14, 2017 at 4:47 pm

Your situation reminds me of my son and nephew and Chuck’s daughter having tickets to Game 5 of 2014 NLCS. I remember hanging with them at a coffee shop a week or so before the series and them hoping they’d actually get to see the game.
That all came together pretty well for them!
Hey–I pay no attention to the AL. Is Hinch considered a good manager now? I remember him being such a colossal flop in AZ that I was surprised he even got another gig.

    • sandog's avatar sandog said, on October 14, 2017 at 5:01 pm

I know R Kelly fucked it up both ways, and even mixed in a few “interfering with the runner” incidents to really spice things up, but I seem to recall that most of his mistakes involved holding guys up when he should have sent them. Agree?

    Why?

I can’t watch the Dodgers—literally. I’m home sick and I don’t have the game on. Staring at the glut of young talent makes me insane with jealousy. When things go badly for them, I give a temporary sigh of relief. When they go well and they start mixing in crowd shots of Magic and Lasorda, I can’t handle it. It’s not worth it for me.
    I’ve got issues—-I know.

Damn. They got 23 pitches out of Kersh. Not a bad start. I still like the Cubs. They are battle tested and have done this before. Just keep rolling like the Giants did in 2012. Always on the edge . . .

A lot to catch up on. Warm Cereal? Quacker Oats, Oatmeal? Fucking porridge? Why does it look like a bowl of vomit? Not the way to start the day.

Since my mom was such an awful cook, breakfast was my wheelhouse from about 6 on. Cinnamon toast led to Eggos led to instant breakfast led to scrambled eggs led to over easy, led to pancakes (we had a big flat griddle that was awesome, french toast, bacon up the wazoo, and Bay’s english muffins to top it all off.

Breakfast was essential because the rest of the meals usually contained a lot of liquids. Lets just say I started young.

    Suck it Turner!

My dad had 3 famous patients over the years (he was a dentist). Jerry Garcia, AJ Hinch and Mark Marquess. He saw Marquess all the time over the course of 30+ years. He stitched up Hinch’s mouth once and he came back a few times for a cleaning. When he was just starting out in the 60’s, Jerry showed up at his office for something minor, my dad gave him a $45 bill, he never paid it.

I liked KISS and they have a lot of songs that I like. But, they’ve also got a lot of tunes that I think are awful too. Best underrated KISS album: Creatures of the Night. Even the Gene Simmons songs on that record are pretty good and most of his stuff is pretty bad. I saw them on that tour at the Civic Center in SF. There was hardly any security and there were some intimidating looking dudes there. I remember my friends and I being pretty uncomfortable. A young Motley Crue was the opening act.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has been a fucking joke from the get go. A bunch of pompous asses that are more concerned with the image of the bands they admit than fairly representing all music. They hate the heavy metal genre and would rather admit bands like Jane’s Addiction (who I like), but had like 3 albums and maybe 5 big songs.

Never saw the deal with any of those guys. Kiss? Overrated. They have a few good songs, and Destryoer is decent. I had too many older brothers and sisters listening to the Doors, Hendrix, Traffic, Airplane and such. I got into the Dead when I got into the drugs. But is was hard rock guitars ll the way. Sabbath, VH, Montrose, Alvin Lee, Roy Buchanan, Zappa, on and on. All those guys played all the time.

Night Ranger? Too hair band for me, although Don’t Tell Me you Love me is a great song. Was at the delta (herman and helen’s) rolling around in the grass parking lot with a girl, banging her to that song cranked from someone else’s campground at 4 am.
