A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Where’s The Action At?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on January 10, 2018

I have returned from Central America. There is a lot going on there. Unlike here. I am still a little sleep deprived but I can’t seem to find any SF Giant related info. To be somewhat fair, it doesn’t look like the free agent market is moving at all. Very weird. Thanks to Chuck for slapping a couple of new threads up to keep the blog moving.

Now all we need is something to happen. Booby you up. Let’s go.

great timing, juxtaposing our two posts. The wind looks too light for Hawaii. Looks nice, though. Where were you?

Wailea, Maui. It rained off and on the first two days but got nice the rest of the week. Got back a week ago.

Stix new year’s litigation update. You may recall the summary of the court documents filed after Stix’s trial court sentencing hearing. The documents showed that Stix on his own moved to revoke his guilty plea, to fire his lawyers, to obtain a new jury trial date, etc., etc. At the time, I said that I hoped the motions had been made calmly, merely to preserve last straws for appeal. With a new public defender representing him, Stix did file a notice of appeal in the 8th Circuit. His opening brief was scheduled to be filed toward the end of this month. Yesterday, however, Stix, through his new attorney, dismissed the appeal. The five-year prison sentence appears to be written in stone now. Let’s hope for parole.

The judge sent Stix to serve his time in the Federal Medical Center, Rochester, Minn.

    https://www.bop.gov/locations/institutions/rch/

    Stix’s most recent attorney is this guy;

    Douglas L Micko
    Federal Defender
    300 South Fourth Street
    Suite 107
    Minneapolis, MN 55415
    612-664-5858
    Fax: 612-664-5850
    Email: doug_micko@fd.org

It’s pretty common to have one attorney in charge of the trial court proceedings and another in charge of the appeal. Can’t read too much into the change here.

I wonder if a collection of Stix’ posts here might be useful at a parole hearing. I think they show him to be exactly what he is and reflect very well on him…

agreed but it sounds like it’s too late. Also, it sounds like he’s really regressed emotionally since being in prison. That’s the guy they see now, not the guy from the Flap. That’s my guess anyway.

Kyle Jensen signed a minor league deal with SF. Looks like Booby is getting his inventory on.

Jay Bruce goes back to Mets, 3Y/$39M.

  10. gianthead said, on January 10, 2018 at 7:01 pm

Jay Bruce for only 3 years and $39 mill and Giants did not play ball??? The Spam contract was not that far off…and Bruce wanted to be a Giant. But the front office is sticking with Plan A….which is to do nothing…

I am not emotionally invested as I was on Stanton and Ohtani so feel generally unexcited about this season with the mgmt sticking to Plan A…

And feel more likely in my December joke of our new OF of Jose Bautista and Dyson. Of course Bautista may turn just as easily into Jayson Werth and then the joke will be on all of us.

Back from Europe; Drumpf’s border patrol let me in without a court order.
I am hearing on radio that the big teams at or near bumping up against lux tax limit are biding time, waiting for market to soften up, as players get antsy and apt to discount. Players union apparently kicking itself for not allowing in CBA a way to inflate the lux tax cap every year, thus avoiding an artificial depressant on salaries. Players won’t make same mistake in next CBA…

Bruce went back to NY for a paltry 39 mil. Makes you wonder what the Giants were offering and I think it’s now obvious that their rumored involvement with some of these heavier FA’s is nothing more than lip service

i’m so starved to hear about Beede doing something baseball related this winter I’d settle for him engaging in this dumbass activity that Bauer did today…..

I swear, watching Steve Kerr-coached teams sometimes is painful. He will sit anybody any time in the name of being ready for the playoffs. This game tonight is excruciating to watch. Why a meatball like Patrick McCaw is even in the league let alone on the W’s is beyond me. Best team in the league at playing down to their competition. Team defense? Fuhgeddaboutit.

Lou Williams lighting up the W’s tonight.
