East Coast Bullshit
This will be a very interesting road trip. ATL/Philly/Pitt. On one hand, if we keep playing the way we’ve been playing, I could see us going over .500 easily. But when you look at that SP staff, man, it’s tough to remain positive. I would like to think that Stratton is back on his regular schedule, his weeping is over, and he’s ready to focus on his trade again.
Derby weekend. I shall release my picks tomorrow. My last 2 publicly released picks (Cloud Computing who won the Preakness at 13-1) and Ascend who won a G1 at 35-1 should have your interest peaked.
If you are playing the Oaks today, I like 3 longshots: Coach Rocks, Wonder Gadot and Eskimo Kisses. Let’s see if one or more crack the exacta…..
So far Giants pitching has only given up 23 bombs while hitters have accounted for 31. This is far better ratio than last season. See if that can continue next 3 series.
Strat has only given up1 bomb in 25 innings and Blach only 2 in 40. Smrdz 1 HR in 15.
all of above however have given up 3.5 or more walks (and Holland worse than that); giants are 10th best NL for walks Moronta and Gearrin also culprits. Too often the walks come back to hurt them, esp in Smardz case.
In Tues/Wed games there were 40 bombs hit each day and 28 yesterday in only 11 games, about same pace.
Braves who have second best record in the NL and are scorching the baseball hit 4 yesterday at Mets. Supposed to be mid 80s in ATL.
Jose Bautista is expected to join the Braves from AAA today.
Needle not moving for me on that add
Must be pretty crowded in Dr. Andrews’ waiting room…
cue Brenda Lee’s “Break it to me Gently”.
I’ve landed on My Miss Lilly in the Oaks.
I think the last winner I gave out here was in 2010…
At least this roadie isn’t in July or August. That trip to Pitt about 5 years ago or so, when they played in a sauna and dropped about 50 pounds of losses, that was brutal. They should be competitive this trip. Maybe Buster can even hit a home run somewhere …
I remember one a few years back over Independence Day in Washington…million-six heat index and humidity. Ugh…
Trying to stay optimistic, especially in light of Cueto’s discomfort. From the Chron:
“Though the Giants were not prepared to share their findings from Johnny Cueto’s elbow MRI exam Wednesday, manager Bruce Bochy confirmed that Cueto is expected to see Andrews during their visit to Atlanta this weekend, which speaks to the severity of the injury. Pitchers do not visit Dr. Andrews to discuss inflammation.”
Not encouraging, but on the flip-side, he has had elbow flare-ups in the past, dating back to Cindy, and has missed few starts.
Also, read that when you add Cueto to the mix, Giants have $79.1 million of salary tied-up on the DL.
.500 roadie would great, IMO, given the Orange and Black walking wounded.
Yeah, Chuck, I remember that July 4th weekend series at the Nats, which is exactly when I decided that I hated the Nats. I was visiting my folks in NJ, watching the games sitting in side by side recliners with my Dad, on cable feed from DC. It was steamy hot in Jersey too, worse in DC. Giants just wilted and the Nats announcers, among the most annoying I’ve ever heard, were laughing about it, starting to talk about the World Series already. Dicks. 2012? 2014? Can’t remember which. I think a Flapper was at one of those games, maybe MacDog or Bozo… Definitely a good thing this trip happens now. Atlanta will be a test, Philly and Bucs might be on a downturn, good time to catch them…
I wasn’t there, but I had to look it up. It was probably 2012, Giants lost to Nats on 4th of July, I’m pretty sure it started at 11 a.m. EST. The following series was the scorcher in Pittsburgh that Snarkk mentioned. Giants also lost to Nats in DC on the 4th in 2015.
Think it was Bozo. Speaking of, to where has our resident clown vanished?
to me, ATL is going to be a lot like playing the Padres—athletic, young hungry guys. They have more talent than SD too.
Acuna is already tearing it up, the kind of young stud OF we can only fantasize the Giants stumbling onto.
I’ve watched Atlanta’s last 3 games and they are crushing the ball right now up and down their line-up.
This might not be pretty. Their rookie 2B, Ozzie Albie is a little dude with some pop—10 bombs already.
Some good young arms too. Future looking bright in the ATL.
that Ozzie dude and Acuna are scary young players.
Don’t sleep on the Braves pitching either. The weather and ballpark will likely drag them down by August, but right now, this staff is dealing. As a unit, they have more than a strikeout per inning.
They look like the ’57 Braves. Acuna, Freeman, Albies, a rejuvenated Markakis, now Bautista = Aaron, Mathews, Schoendienst, Covington, Adcock.
That pitching staff was pretty good with the wood too. In about 500 PAs, they hit six HRs with 38 RBIs.
I’ve watched Folty pitch a few times. He’s either very good or very bad. At least the times I’ve seen him pitch.
I haven’t seen Raging Bull yet. Worth it?
No. Lousy acting, awful dialogue. Don’t waste your time.
I’m curious SD . . . Are you serious? 8.2 rating IMDB; 4 out of 4 stars Ebert; 95% rating Rotten Tomatoes; and 87% of Google users liked the movie. The film was nominated for eight Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director. The film won two for Best Actor for De Niro, his second Oscar, and Best Editing.
Interesting that you not only didn’t like it, but it sounds like you hated it.
Pretty sure SD is being ironic.
It’s generally considered to be the best film of the ’80’s and at #24 is Scorsese’s highest ranked on AFI’s Top 100.
best movie of the 80s? I don’t know. The Reagan Era generated some edgy comedies–Ghostbusters, Field of Dreams . . . .
It is non-stop fantastic. Nicholas Colasanto (famous for his role as “Coach” in the TV show Cheers) has two of my favorite lines in the movie…
Mets to DFA Harvey…
Saw that. Wasn’t that long ago seemed he owned the city…
Schulman and Marty Lurie are already trying to figure out how the Giants can grab him. “Just like Dyson, last year . . . .” LTThreshold issues, however. Jeezus.
Why is it that other teams find dynamic players like Acuna, but SF fans are left with deploying Saran Wrap for AAAA OFers like Mac who discovers a new swing apparently, or a middling prospect like Duggar? Hopefully the new minor league regime will get with a new approach and find these guys…
Raging bull is pretty great. If you believe about 90 million people.
Have you seen the Godfather yet, Flav?
No
I’ve never been much of a de Niro fan. Especially the last third or so of his career where he’s phoned it in for checks. (The Fokkers?, oy). But. “I got no choice!” but to recommend Raging Bull. It’s legit. No warmed over mafia role redux as usual, de Niro resides in the role. I haven’t seen em all, but probably scorcese’s best, too,and I include Goodfellas, which IMO is overrated — I’d rather see a couple of the best Sopranos episodes. BTW, Gangs of New York; WTF was that?– I fast forwarded thru that DVD …
Analyze this? Utter crap. A lot of fluyff at the end of his career. Yeah, he had a lot of shit roles, but Goodfellas to me is all about Ray Liotta. I thought he was outstanding in that. The scene where he bets the shit out of the guy in the driveway looked pretty right-on. The running theme of the movie is ‘you don’t see it coming’ when they whack you, and he doesn’t say a word to the guy he beats the fuck out of until he’s done beating on him.
Gangs of New York was a mess. My son digs that one but I think, meh. Mean Streets is a classic. This was Del Mar Dennis’ favorite scene.
Agreed, Liotta made that movie. Sopranos always had the guys play on that one, and Godfather to a lesser extent. The older Dr Melfi in Sopranos I’d take over Liottas wife in GFs. I’m forgetting the actress’ name at the moment. Husky voiced women are the bomb…
I’ve always thought Ray Liotta’s best role was the bad guy in Something Wild.
Most of Scorcese’s movies are overrated to a degree, except the ones that are underrated by his hardcore fans (After Hours, The Last Temptation of Christ, Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore)
I’ve got Goodfellas number one, for this scene alone.
After Hours is a pretty good light comedy. It starts with HM’s ” . . . gob of spit in the face of Art . . .” and ends artfully with a joke.
How about The Exorcist? My son wanted to watch that one recently, and i was floored how nasty that movie was. Dialog-wise and visually. Disgusting even. Funny as fuck in retrospect, seeing as I was 12, and a Catholic, when I saw it. Can’t remember if I went with my mom or with my brother.
The Omen on the other hand was and is a fantastic movie visually and very well-acted.
I always liked Exorcist. Scary stuff, considering time made. The backward spider scene on staircase is brief but just badass…
Giddy up…
1. Alen Hanson (S) 2B
2. Andrew McCutchen (R) RF
3. Buster Posey (R) C
4. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
5. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
6. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
7. Austin Jackson (R) CF
8. Gregor Blanco (L) LF
9. Chris Stratton (R) P
Belt in the 4 hole. Fuck this looks like our March 25th lineup.
I hope Stratton’s last start was the anomaly of the bunch. He looked really good until the baby start.
Going to be one channel-flipping MoFo tonight…
Giants – Braves
Warriors – Pelicans
Sharks – Vegas
Yeah, gonna burn out the DVR tonight.
Speaking of Mets, what’s up with DeGrom?
Nothing psychs me up for the Oaks like the Johnny Weir gay fashion show…
DeGrom is okay. Might not even miss a start…
thx loo.
My favorite Scorcese movie is The Last Waltz.
Some Giants have good success against this Folly dude..Posey 2-6 a couple of bombs,Belt good numbers,&Crawdaddy a couple of bombs 4 RBi’s
Let’s get this turd 💩 early and put up a crooked number..
Good call, Kat!
Jesus fucking Christ how did that 5 not get past the 14? That’s cool, got the exacta and the tri
Well done, Flavor. Good luck tomorrow…
i’m such a girl for not playing the super. That’s my favorite bet. But I got so caught up in the Oaks/Derby double and the Oaks/old Forrester/Derby pick 3 I kept my in-race bets to only exacta/trifecta. 2 of my 3 longshots hit the super, I suck big balls for not playing it.
An underrated and terrific Scorcese film is “Bringing Out The Dead,” starring Nicolas Cage as an overworked burned-out ambulance driver.
“Raging Bull” I can acknowledge as very well-made and well-acted, but it just kind of left me cold. I couldn’t really care much about the characters.
I generally don’t like mafia movies and TV shows; but “Goodfellas” is one that I’ve seen more than once. The dialog seems believable, and as that clip from Yogi shows, the film as some virtuoso filmmaking in it.
i started catching up on all these epic movies that i’ve never seen because I found google play a few years back and it’s like 2-3 bucks to watch any movie you want. That’s easy as pie and something Big Flavor can get down with. I don’t really know what netflix is so or how to use it don’t ask me about that. Anyway, the last few years I’ve gotten to really catch up on some classics that i’ve missed over the last 30-40 years. I will watch Raging Bull despite the mixed reviews here. I’ll put that one in the hopper next. I need to find a way to watch GoodFellas some other way, it’s like the only movie I’ve ever tried to watch on Google play that they don’t offer to rent, only buy.
Stratton’s baby is killing us…
he’s running out of excuses unless she just told him she’s got another one in the oven and if that’s the case I can see why the dude is trippin. lqtm
that Steph Curry NBA commercial is so fucking good.
Folty either really good or really bad. Nice to see us waltz onto the east coast and start off with a “Fuck you, try to beat us” attitude.
Prepare for tie game…
Heckuva play by Stratton.
Brave announcers – whoever the fuck they are made nothing of it…
NO hitting their shots but playing really smart with the ball. No one on GS can guard Davis—get him the ball every time down the floor/attack the rim.
Dubs gonna win. They crushed all those 3’s and they’re barely up? Curry Flurry coming in the second half…..
they pulled away second game when Durant got going. NO problem is they don’t have anyone to guard him. He can post anyone up/shoot from perimeter or pull up.
Thompson got going tho good sign.
I really think only thing that can derail GS is their inability to defend the rim. Their Cs suck and Kerr obviously doesn’t trust them. You can drive on Curry/Livingston and with a good big you can attack them on block–with enough shooters you can beat the double team.
and of course turnovers. Green sometimes makes bad decisions with ball.
Day before the Derby but stressed out with other shit right now. My daughter told me she might want to stay another year in Costa Rica. Pfffttt. Want her back. Plus, her private school is expensive. And she’s growing up and I don’t like that. haha. Anyway, I’m being nostalgic tonight, missing all those times of her as a little girl. Had so much fun with her the night of this post. By the way, “PaSalon” who posts here now (finally) is Dave, he’s in this post too….want my little girl back…
https://oneflapdown77.com/2010/10/24/glory-today-but-destiny-awaits/
Wow. Another year? That’s rough. You gonna let her stay?
i don’t know. Probably. Lots of other stuff to still factor in.
Welcome to the club. They grow up.
The older snarkette has been in Spain since last August.
We have a FaceTime chat once a week.
Now in Barcelona; she is scheduled to return sometime before July.
We’ll see.
Almost fluent in Spanish…
Shit, I’m rewinding all this stuff to see what i missed. I heard the 1st inning hr but nothing else. Tied in the top of the 2nd.
Rondo is great passer into the post, lost art.
They needed that!
Not the Dubs’ night.
Giants enjoy hitting in a normal stadium…
Craw may be waking up. Lots of good swings lately.
GS getting thrashed tonite.
Culb lol. Famous for being guy sent to Rox for Scut right?. Man I loved to watch Scut hit.
Guess I don’t need to hit the “Last” button on the remote again tonight.
yeah, I bailed on that button too
Longo is such a beast.
Him and Craw’s homers might’ve both hit the RF bricks at AT&T.
Might’ve…
Longoria also made a real gem in the field…
Al that glowing talk about Dyson and he walks the guy on 4 pitches.
Guess it’s sharks time,
Nice!!
another easy win. I could get used to this shit.
Nice little run they’re on, but Cueto’s looming diagnosis is a very dark cloud.
Yankees almost trample they’re hot rookie Andujar to death in idiotic post-game celebration…
3 Ws for Strat. Could he be the pitcher leads team at end of season in Ws?
Flav the orginal Godfather is classic. I wind up watching parts of all 3 at a Holiday dinner to which I am invited every year. Good stuff lot of good performances.
if we keep winning we’ll obviously need to add a front line pitcher at the break. Let’s get there and worry about that then. Lux tax won’t matter if we’re on the cusp.
Giants will NOT go over the lux tax.
Book it…
I think Snarkk’s right. If they can stay alive without Cueto, then they’ll stick with whatever it is that’s kept them there…
Oh, they’ll get someone. But it’ll be a lower tier guy. A cheapie.
Dodgers have a no-hitter going so far against the Padres. The Dodgers want to see if they can go 19-0 against the Padres this season.
Pujols gets #3000 and punches his ticket for first ballot Hall of Fame entry.
I understand not viewing Melancon as part of the 2018 strategy, but he’s still a 30+ year old pitcher the front office signed who represents committed salary $$$, money that could have been been used differently to help the team this year. If we had him performing anywhere close to his run through 2016, SF would probably have the best bullpen in the NL, one that could compensate a fair bit for a weak rotation. They may be and do that even without MM.
OPTIMISM – Pass it on!
The pen is so much better now than it was last year.
Sharks finally score.
Sharks score again!! Still down 2 tho.
Sharks score AGAIN…
Craig watch the Godfather. It is a bit slow in a few scenes, but an American classic. I just had my wife watch for the 1st time a few months back. She immediately wanted to see GF 2, another classic. As movies go Goodfellas was great but The Godfather one of the best movies of all time.
Giants over .500 by 2 games. Cueto Mad Bum, Melenacon ALL OUT. Pence horrible and DL’d. Cutch, Longo, Jackson, Craw all below .220 at the end of April. Strickland our closer!
IF WE HAD SAID ALL THESE THINGS HAPPENING AND WE PLAY THE DODGERS 11 TIMES IN APRIL…..
HONESTLY WE SHOULD ALL GO PLAY THE LOTTERY. NO WAY ANY ONE PREDICTS THIS RECORD WITH THESE THINGS ALL HAPPENING!!!!
.
