SF Cooling Off Hotlanta
This Hanson guy is bringing a nice, *no-Honky* look to the team right now. Ron Hansen is my favorite all time jockey, may he rest in peace.
Atlanta doesn’t know what’s fucking hit them this weekend. It’s refreshing to see that we can beat a young, athletic team. And we are beating them to a pulp. I’m not really sure how we’re doing this actually.
Next guy up? Suarez? Sure, why not. Hides the ball well, he competes. Another guy who fits into the resilient mold that you’re required to have if you want to play with these guys.
Sweep ’em, why not?
Also, currently on pace for 88 wins this year. Hope today isn’t the only day I get to say that this season
Definitely surprised by their play, as I thought they would have a rough April. Instead, they did very well and have even “doubled down” in May, with unbelievable performances mostly across the board (starting pitching, hitting and definitely the bullpen). So kudos to the team . . .
However, their starting rotation is going to need to do a better job at minimizing runs and pitch count. The Giants won’t have another off-day until the 21st of May, so they need to pitch deep into games to prevent that bullpen from getting tired. If the starting pitching pitchs below average, expect the effectiveness of the bullpen to decrease. This is especially important since we don’t have reinforcements until 4-5 weeks from now (Madbum, Smarg, Melanoma) and there’s the question of Cueto even coming back this season.
I have to agree with Zum, at least the product is interesting and is keeping my attention. Last season’s team was terrible and boring to watch.
3 games over .500 for the 1st time since 2016. A team has been crushed by injuries to key pitchers from the start and we have continued to compete. Not analyzing it, just enjoying it. No expectations for today, because our Sunday giveaway day is here. I hope Pablo Hundley Gorgys et all are ready:)
We are getting the ‘get-away-day’ lineup, so it’ll be interesting to see how this goes. . . Still and all I;m fairly surprised how well they are playing collectively. I wasn’t sure the hitting would come around, nor the pen.
And especially with the patchwork AAA starting five.
wind blowing out big time today, there could be a bunch of home runs hit. Hope we hit a couple.
Here’s the giveaway/getaway LU…
1. Gregor Blanco (L) LF
2. Andrew McCutchen (R) RF
3. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
4. Nick Hundley (R) C
5. Pablo Sandoval (S) 3B
6. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
7. Alen Hanson (S) 2B
8. Austin Jackson (R) CF
9. Andrew Suarez (L) P
wow Jacks down to 8 spot. Gonna have to hit your way out of it.
coming in ATL had second best record in NL and had smoked the Mets.
18 hits only 1 bomb, 2 day before I think. Still giving up fewer than they are hitting big change from last year.
Belt’s .983 OPS leads entire MLB 1bmen with 100 or more ABs…
Good. Keep swinging the bat, I’m good with him.
Righty Soroka taking his 2nd MLB start today against Gmen.
Panda needs to jack one today…
Remembered for pulling off an unassisted triple play. One of the very first players I ever saw live…
The latest on Mac. BTW, Schulman appears to be the only beat writer covering the Atlanta series.
Not really surprising regarding him being the only one to cover the Giants on this road trip. As you’re intimately aware (being a sportswriter), this is happening all over the country. In fact, dollars to donuts – the Denver Post disappears by the end of the year. They already lost the Rocky Mountain News a few years ago. If the Post disappears, that will leave Colorado without a major newspaper.
Check out this editorial and especially the before and after staff photo:

Yeah, what’s been going on at the Denver Post has been especially heinous.
This Marty lurie spot on KNBR with Bruce Jenkins right now is incredible. Lots of Willie Mays info I never knew about
The Dodgers placed left-handed ace Clayton Kershaw on the 10-day disabled list with left bicep tendinitis and recalled Brock Stewart from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday.
Wow. The Dogs are having a rough go this year. Bet that goes longer than 10 days.
Hah! Fuck ’em. It ain’t like we haven’t been ravaged by in juries.
Blade, this all feels like some sort of overarching scheme to get rid of journalists and local news reporting in general.
Controlling information, in other words.
If you want to be really scared, look up Sinclair Broadcast Group.
did you see that thing deadspin put together? A video of all those Sinclair newscasters repeating word for word the same shit?
No, but I’ve heard that Sinclair dictates the news their affiliates broadcast.
Seriously fucked up.
I’ve had the Braves telecasts all weekend and their commercials embrace and encourage the ludicrous (and offensive to many) tomahawk chop. In fact the team motto or whatever is “Chop On!”…
That’s Alen with an ‘E.’
And one ‘L’
Fucking Hanson, can’t pick up a beer league ground ball and now Suarez is in the shit.
Guy ends up allowing a run and throwing 13 extra pitches because your second baseman can’t pick up a slow roller. Fucking errors.
Cripes! He redeemed himself, but why us Sandoval starting over Longoria today.
Hanson’s error is to be expected.
Yesterday Marty Lurie asked what Giants’ second baseman he’s most similar to. Eugenio Velez was an unpopular choice by one respondent, but may very well be the most accurate.
Kershaw to the DL, yet again.
The Dodgers are suffering devastating injuries right and left, you think anyone here cares?
Heartless bastards!
Maybe Hanson should take over CF, he can switch hit.
No surprise about Mac.
The guy will go back to Sac, and get invisible. Pence will be brought back to see if he can earn some of that final year contract…
braves pitcher looks like a young Matt Cain
wow just what the kid needed, on not easy guy to double up either.
Stay hot Nick Hundley.
Ha Ha there’s one for SD—Belt with productive out advancing Blanco to 3b and he scores on dink single.
Not what Belt intended but still worked out.
and more to come as Cutch scores after walking earlier.
Scherzer has 10 Ks in 4 innings vs. the Phils.
Hey Blach, that’s how to bunt.
man how many other Giants score on that one.
Hanson goddamn electric! I can tolerate a bad error now and again if he’s got that shit in his game. Wow!
Yeah, not just the speed but the aggressive lead and great jump. Freeman made a perfect throw to no avail.
Wow, this guy can fly.
That is one fast dude. He just made up for the error.
Instant replay from the other night.
Man, everything is dropping these days. When’s the last time the Giants had it going like this? Years?
I told you guys that Hanson is a speed dude.
Remember I said a coupla weeks ago that the play at home where SF got hosed on that out call on Panik on the sac fly — it wouldn’t have been close if the Giants had more speed.
This guy and that play just proved it. Panik does not make that play.
Giants need to find a place for this guy on the roster. He’s a disruptive player…
who’s the slowest runner on the roster? Panik or Posey?
C’mon, dude, Posey might be the slowest in baseball.
It might spell the end for Specs when Panik gets back.
Probably not. Gorkys goes or maybe Jackson gets injured thumb wrestling with Pence
Offensive juggernaut!
double plays are real nice. Posey is slower than Panik.
3 DP’s through 4 innings. Nice.
all this ground attack, one bomb they could break this game open.
Suarez is having nice game after surviving first. Keep the ball on the ground Giants are gonna get guys outs.
That’s a big DP. Pitcher’s spot now leads off for the Braves in the 5th and they’ll probably have to pinch hit.
Hanson couldn’t make the white sox?
Wasn’t tendered a contract. lulz
All kidding aside, I think he finally got serious with the Giants. His press clippings as a top 100 prospect wore thin with the White Sox . . . Fast forward, he probably has a new attitude.
This guy is a revelation. Honky label going by the wayside this season.
Freeman has some nasty stuff.
Hanson with a double.
He supposedly can play OF.
Jackson has proved no great shakes with the glove in CF, has average arm at best, and hasn’t hit much.
I’d take Hanson over him right now. Not even close…
He can play every position (perhaps not well), except catcher, pitcher and 1st base per what I know about him.
The way he hits and runs that’s an intriguing thought.
Artie Wilson….

Shit I have to stop reading ahead. The Giants just took the lead, 2-1. 3rd game in a row that I’ve started fast-forwarding. Another early lead erased by the G’s.

Wow. Nice bunt by Southbound Suarez.
Holy shit!!! How the fuck does Randy Hansen score there? Speed?
Whiooooo! 4-1!!
Are you watching a recording?
Yeah. I just caught up. WTF is up with that shift? Never seen that on a righty.
Cutch has been burning that shift. Not lot of pop yet but the OB is around .400.
Southbound is dealing. He may only go 6+ but he’s keeping the ball in the yard.
So far:
Austin Jackson:
79 ABs; .228/.295/.561 0 HRs; 9 RBIs
Denard Span:
90 ABs; .256/.382/.804 3 Hrs; 24 RBIs
BTW, Arroyo thru 10 games at AAA Durham is at .633 OPS
yeah I saw that reading through box scores. Span leads the Rays with 24 rbis.
OK see what kerr has on chess board. JaVale didn’t work out and N Young’s starting days are over with Steph ready to roll. Only issue with Igs on floor with Green, that’s 2 guys NO is not going to guard on perimeter.
They won’t guard Livingston there either. Maybe Cook could give them a 3 or 2 off bench and help contain Moore Rondo or Jrue.
Is that Iggy at the 5?
Dubs out of the gate hot. Good sign.
Here comes the Human Flight Delay for a getaway day.
Run those cocksuckers right out of their own gym.
There ya go, Chuck, that last replay really showed how Hanson stole that run.
Dubs on fire!
Green making them pay, and scorers doing what they do.
ah my man cook with couple hoops. think this guy can contribute given some PT.
carving them up right now, rude awakening for NO.
More and more Snarkk’s idea of Hanson in CF looking like a winner.
another gb hit right at him that he bobbles.
I think we’ve found Hanson’s weakness, defense. That’s the second boneheaded error today and in a tight game.
A Little League coach would be screaming at him to charge the fuckin’ ball – don’t let it play you.
A fuckin’ Little League coach!
Clank Hanson giveth and Clank Hanson taketh away
And there may be a reason why other teams didn’t like this guy.
But no harm done.
Seems like the defense has not been real great this series, even apart from Hanson. Good hitting and pitching can compensate. Good defense doesn’t make up for the lack of one of the other two.
They’ve made some good plays, including a bunch of DP’s, but you’re right, way too many errors.
Mirotic is a fucking punk.
Wariors giving up way too many wide open looks beyond the arc in this series.
45 -3 on free throws this game
warriors run that one all the time OB hand off to Green who screens defender and Durant has easy shot.
Again, Mirotic is a punk.
After the calm of Watson, Strickland is troubled waters.
