If I told you that the only thing you could take from this season was the surprise of Dereck Rodriguez, would that be enough for you? I’m not talking about one of these *Stratton/Suarez* fliers that work out a little and then fall apart, I’m talking about a legit ace of the staff. A free ace can’t be understated.
We’re still screwed going forward because one or two aces isn’t gonna get ‘er done. After him and Bum we just have a bunch of guys (assuming Smargerine is done and we don’t see Cueto till 2020).
That’s the problem with building a staff. Nobody wants to give out the big 5 year deals anymore and I get that. But it’s not like there are any low hanging fruit freebies like D-Rod out there.
And then there is the unpleasant thought that maybe Rodriguez is a mirage. That this will all flitter away into a warm summer breeze and never be seen again…
Fixing this mess is going to require a lot of luck. How many times does a lotto winner hit the lotto? D-Rod could be it and then nothing but a bunch of losing tickets thereafter….
A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball 
One thing about Sat game is that the Kelley kid looked pretty good. Giants might have something with the SP they got from Sox in the Nunez deal, Anderson who was promoted from Richmond to Sac while ago.
Going forward the whole Blach Suarez Strat thing behind Holland Bum DRod leaves lot to be desired.
Interested to see how Giants all LHP rotation fares vs. Dodgers, who beefed up with Dozier and Machado and have Turner back now too.
Just a thought, but would Astros be a fit for Posey? He’s a better C than McCann and could certainly help their LU. And maybe no one would care how many HRs he hits.
McCann isn’t even playing anymore, I think he’s hurt. Posey would be an upgrade over Gattis or Maldonado or whoever they’re using but my gut is that a team like Houston isn’t going to want to commit tons of salary to a guy who would probably be the 7th or 8th best hitter in the line up day in and day out.
aside from the dough tho, I think Posey would be a fantastic fit for them

I don’t see Catwoman being a “One hit wonder” this guy has unbelievable control for a Rook.Posey are Hundley sets their target and he’s spot on most of the time. He elevated pitches, he changes the sightlines of hitters constantly, he just light years better then most Rook pitchers…
Should also have a few more wins, been Cained by the pen.8-1 easily maybe 9 . Probably lose out the ROY to Soto? It’s a shame but east coast bias will prevail..
I don’t care right now about the pitching. It’s good enough. This team can’t hit. It hasn’t hit for two seasons. The core position players are getting no younger. You can trot Bum out there every 5th day, D-Rod every 5th day and get 7 shutout innings. That’s meaningless if you score 1 or two runs, and the Pen isn’t absolute nails, there is no margin for Pen error. We’ve seen enough how this scenario happens, it sucks. Blow this puppy up to get people that can hit and hit with power. It will take time. MLB is a power game now; you are nowhere if you can’t hit HRs. That’s where the Giants are and will be for the next 2-3 years…

In a Bum/Kershaw match-up, it’s always interesting to see what the homeplate ump is going to give to each pitcher.
Kershaw needs that fastball a few inches off the outside of the plate to right-handed hitters to be called a strike.
And Bum needs that wrap-around curve for strikes to right-handed hitters. Sometimes Bum doesn’t get that curveball called strikes, and that’s when he starts to get irritated.
9 times out of 10 Kershaw gets that fastball off the plate called for a strike. The umps like Kershaw. That’s just the way it is. Who knows why? Maybe he never complains and they like him for that. But why should he complain? He gets a big strikezone. It’s a chicken and egg thing. Hard to tell which came first.

Giants have at least 6 (I keep losing count) unbelievably bad contracts. By my count, Melanoma, Smarg, Longo, Cueto, Pence, and Cutch). The latter 2 coming off the books this season.
I think all of these stiffs get a pass from the fans because there’s so many of them. Conversely, when Benitez was here blowing saves, he was an easy target being the lone ranger, insofar as bad contracts. Especially, when he was saying stupid shit after a loss, where he claimed, “I did my job.”

Disagree about pitching not being an issue. Other than Bum and DRod, very ordinary. Suarez has gotten his ass kicked last 3 times out. Blach Strat are 5s and even Holland the ace has ERA 4.00 ish. The others are all higher than that.
They have the benefit of pitching at ATT, which last year and this allows fewest bombs and they are still 9th in the league. Pen guys I like, but otherwise team should still be top 5.
Giants are 9th in a 15 team league. That’s pretty mediocre.

Coming into tonight’s game I figure the odds of the Giants winning the division or a wildcard are about 100-1. Even if they win, say 9 out of the next 10 games. The odds will still be about the same. Win only 6 out of 10. It’s 200-1.
