Bad Weekend
The Niners got killed and we are back to focusing on Draft Pick Watch. Just an utterly frustrating outcome. I figured they’d get killed but that was just going to be one game. Losing our starting QB, especially on such a dumb play that he did to himself, was tough. The Chiefs have so many offensive weapons they are going to be fun to watch this year. We are no longer going to be fun to watch this year. The upside to the weekend was Tom Brady finally smoking copious amounts of pole. I am calling it right now. HE IS DONE THE PATS ARE DONE. Hey, it happens to everyone. Not sure why it took so long for it to happen to him but it couldn’t happen to a more pompous guy. I’m gonna enjoy watching New England miss the playoffs this year…..
Holland going tonight in another snoozer. I’d love to pick the collective brain of the fans who hit this game tonight. They’re certainly better fans than me, I couldn’t do it…..
September Win Watch: We’ve won 4 with 6 to play. I still feel like my *September 6* call is going to be nailed cold. Some of you are out of it. Should be a fun final 6 games, eh?
And Chuck, sorry, that game wasn’t close. We were down 35 to freaking 10 at halftime. In any sport, when you’re destroying an opponent like that, it’s natural to lose some momentum, take the pedal off the gas, etc.. The Niners deserve credit for continuing to try and KC’s defense isn’t good, but we were completely outplayed in that game.
Salah needs to be replaced. His gameplan was atrocious. 35-10 at halftime. That was embarrassing. You can’t blame that on the refs.
I do hope they win two more. I know it’s meaningless, but for some reason being 10 games over last year’s win column is important to me. I don’t know why…
Chiefs are interesting, fun to watch. Rest of that division sucks so as long as they don’t “lose momentum” like they did and let others back into it, they have lot of potential.
Listened to some of Kuiper with Lurie Sat AM. Lurie like Kruk seems like nice guy who will never get too upset while Kuip seems opposite, more of a no nonsense guy who wouldn’t listen to stuff he didn’t agree with.
Not surprised Lurie and Jenkins got on well, neither impresses too much with anything beside old school takes.
After another under .500 season wonder how much more K and K are interested in.
Interesting race for the division title between the Rockies and Dodgers, with the Giants possibly impacting it at the end. The Rockies get the Phils for four games.
If the weather holds up, a friend of mine and I are going to either tonight’s game or tomorrow’s game. She’ll be wearing a Rockies jersey and I’ll be in my old school 2002 WS jersey. Maybe K & K will point us out and make up stories . . . 🙂
Cool!
Fuck the Chiefs and fuck that. I saw the Niners win after being down 35/7 at the half. Sure it was the Saints but the game is still in hand down 7 with 6 minutes to play.
Selah’s Fucking downfall is covering backs on screens. They did that 6 times on us before we stopped ONE.
i think I told this story before but I was at that game, too. My dad still had season tickets then (his last). We left at halftime like a lot of people. But my dad still talks about that as one of his big mistakes in life.
I’d imagine that we’ll be hearing about Bobby Evans getting the ax soon. Maybe Jane in payroll and Betty the front desk whore join him. Dunno.
they already said he’s gone. Hopefully Sabean follows him but I doubt it.
He’s gone???
From Szymborski on F/G: “The organization’s reluctance to trade older players is likely rooted in laudable intentions–namely to retain a recognizable core who have a history with the team and resonate with fans. Nevertheless that reluctance has come back to bite the team over and over.”
No he’s not talking about Giants but the Reds, in “Elegy for 2018” analysis. Looking forward to the one on SF tho. I think it’s a good site in its own way and wrters often makes lot of sense (as do their bloggers) as opposed to Mc C Chron or other sites. Same way I’d trust those who post here over Marty Lurie for real baseball knowledge and insights, and fun stuff.
Congrats to Tiger on winning yesterday. Come to find out he’s got a restaurant in Florida called The Woods. Seems like a lot of opportunity for allusion on that menu.
Even his drink menu..
Tiger’s wet woodie drink
Looks like finally Booby Evans will be canned.
Giants are looking for a top level GM to take over.
Hopefully McLoud,Girsch etc ..
Booby getting 86ed is just he type of shyster move I would expect from Baer – who is really the one that should be getting the boot. Sabean tossing his hand picked protege under the bus is a little surprising, I guess.
Am I crazy? They said 2 weeks ago Evans was going to be gone. It wasn’t official but this was reported a while ago.
It’s been out there as a rumor for a while but I don’t remember any official reporting.
Flav, that game was during the time (from 1974 to 1981)n you could buy cheap seats and move toward the 50 yard line upper deck and watch the games. You could still do that in 1981. Good times.
My dad had it with the team after that game. Ended his season tickets. I think that was 1980
That’s when I was getting hopeful. After years of misery, they looked like, at least offensively, they had a clue. Of course that was when Walsh was in, and he had drafted Montana in 1979.
I felt that way about this year until Jimmy G went down. That at least there was some hope.
There still is, but the defense is in complete disarray right now. We have a lot of good players but they are not being coached. Selah is blowing it. KC ran 6 screens before we stopped one. Sure, there are games that things go bad. But I could see the plays where KC would run 2 WRs deep on the right side, and throw underneath. With no one covering the back, they usually had 10-15 yards before they even got contact.
Both Foster and Warner are very good coverage linebackers, yet they were out of position all day. Coaching.
Evans seems like a logical sacrificial lamb.
It should be a total cleaning out of top leadership, but that won’t happen.
The team still drew 30,000+ per game and that’s what Giants ownership understands best.
They tanked faster last year. Attendance went way down, but the seats were sold, so beer/merch sales I’m sure went way down.
https://aroundthefoghorn.com/2018/09/18/san-francisco-giants-bobby-evans-hotseat-deservedly/
The kicker . . .
And worse yet, they’ve gone 165-220 since the second half of 2016.
Fan Appreciation day is Sunday, the announcer in a Bob Uecher voice thanks for coming out this year, sorry we sucked.
Dumping Evans (and forcing Tidrow to retire) wouldn’t be token gestures if they hire replacements from outside the franchise. Up to now, the post-92 Giants have promoted the GM from within — first, Sabean; then, Evans. Time for a new era. New manager and an entirely new coaching staff could wait until winter 2019. But the FO needs to change completely, asap.
Listening to Marty Lurie last night, he gave a telling stat about the Giants. There were 102 games that were won or lost by 3 runs or fewer
How do you interpret that?
what’s telling about that? Most every game is won or lost by 3 runs or fewer.
The Philly Flyers have a horrible new mascot.

That’s some scary crap.
Think some of those billionaires need to get involved in the next GM hire.
Sabean hand picked Booby to take over for him and he’s flopped terribly.
Why should management trust Sabean again on a new hire?
They could easily pluck a dynamic young GM off of the Theo Epstein schooled for years tree of experienced who are hungry for that chance especially in a big market city…
Omg, Same old Giants, going after the same old recycled garbage. Theirs talk they want 64 year old Ned Coletti who was a Sabean clone!!
Fuck their are so many more better candidates then this bum!!
Evans was just Sabean’s butler. There’s nothing about this move that signifies any change at all. This was just done to appease the season ticket holders. No other reason.
every season ticket holder I know has held the seats since the park opened in 2000. They ain’t goin nowhere
season ticket holders have been complaining. There was recently a luncheon that was supposed to be all positive and “hey thanks for your support” that apparently turned fairly ugly with multiple season ticket holders telling Baer “Don’t disrespect us by selling us on the ballpark anymore”.
and those irate fans will be appeased by firing Evans? no. They want what I want — an entire new FO, with Sabean fading back.
i think that firing Evans will be some nice window dressing to back them down a little.
well the season ticket holders I’ve discussed these issues with up in view box section 313 won’t be so easily mollified. But they won’t bail. And the rich season ticket holders I know who sit behind the plate, etc., will just enjoy the opportunity to bitch and gripe and make noise. They definitely won’t bail.
They bring in Colleti and it’s shows real fans how badly they don’t care about winning anymore.Which of course they have proven that the last 2 years..
agreed. A Colleti add would just be a dagger.
Just off the top of my head, here’s some “YOUNG” GM’s they should be looking at;
Jerod McLeod
Michael Girsch
Porter ( forgot his 1st name)
Theirs 2-3 more like these guys that don’t live in the stone-ages of running a baseball team!
Sabean needs to lay back in his hammock and let someone else make the right moves, instead of keep meddling..
the fact that they fired Evans today is a good sign. Whoever gets hired will have some time to make moves.
unless it’s Coletti 😉
I don’t believe for a second that they’re going to hire Colleti. That has to just be some stupid rumor.
Evans gone…happy says hopefully will be here again…soon!

Report: Giants remove Bobby Evans as GM
ugh
bring in new people to run the FO, make moves, get through next year, draft well again, and then replace Bochy and the coaching staff, make more moves, and begin to revive in 2020. (I suppose if, as they’ve promised in the past, they’re willing to spend money next year on short term deals, they still could give Bochy a shot at contending in 2019. But I won’t count on it.)
Might as well.
He’ll be managing the same guys…
maybe not. the rationale for squeezing under the tax threshold this year was to reset the tax for the next couple of years, before it expires for good. The Giants can go over the tax limit next season and still spend a lot less than if they’d gone over this year. Maybe they’ll find some short term deals to patch together a team next year. How many McCutchens can we find on the board?
Franny on KNBR saying Boobie’s biggest mistake was giving Belt a big deal before he’d earned it. Man, Belt gets hit from all sides doesn’t he? Guy can’t catch a break.
I always thought it was the owners who gave out the big deals, not the GMs.
The GMs are the field managers now…
the big big ones, yes. But the Crawford , Melancon, and Belt deals are not considered that big. They’ve hamstrung us for sure, but I doubt CJ or even Baer were signing off on those before they were done.
One of the best stiff arm’s I’ve seen in a while. Ex Niner, too
Booby gone? Outstanding! Good first move! Now, make more!
That Philly mascot looks like Toomgis on meth.
GO FLYERS! 10 days until the NHL season starts!
Excellent, Chuck.
Now why do you hate my Chiefs so much?
The Fitzpatrick express is officially over. 3 picks in the 1st half.
Flav, that Saints game was either the first or second start for Joe.
Remember that game so well cuz we moved over to near the ‘luxury’ suites when the place emptied out at the half.
I agree that Evans was just Sabes lite. No way that Evans made major moves without running things up the flag for approval, including Sabean, AND Baer. Their hands are plenty dirty in this mess.
Evans is the fall guy, and Sabean stays, apparently. If they say Bochy is staying, that means Sabean is, or vice versa. Way more needs changing than just Evans. Way more.
I agree that some major young blood needs to be brought in here, and give him free reign to bring others in. Sabean can sit in his office for his last year in 2019 and nod his head yes, no or whatever. Start running this thing like a baseball team…
Huh. That’s the first time I’ve seen what Booby Evans looks like.
Shouldn’t the GM be making the decisions around who coaches? Is this some sort of ‘you can come in as long as you keep the manager’ deal?
Like the 49ers used to get regularly vilified for?
It’s stoopid. Bochy should announce tomorrow that he’s done, and go out in a blaze of semi-glory…
i don’t understand why Bochy and Kruk and Kuip and all these guys are sticking around for any of this. Are they too dumb to see the writing on the wall? They all have enough money, why keep doing this if you’re just going to have to watch the team lose every year?
To get away from their wives is my standard theory…
Baer’s on record now, on the pre-game interview with Pavlovic, that there’ll be a new head of baseball “ops,” accountable directly to ownership (i.e., directly to Baer, I guess). Sabean’s fading. Or so they say.
Bochy’s getting paid $6 million next season. They’re going to make him suit up in his uni all season for it, like they made Pence suit up all season for his $18 million this year.
Pence and his .570 OPS gets to bat leadoff tonight. This dude should not have been on the roster this season, everyone knows that, probably Pence, too.
Man, almost empty ballpark.
Scattered patches of people.
it filled in surprisingly well
unless Bochy has mismanaged his fortune he shouldn’t sweat the 6mil he’s making next year. But he’s a baseball lifer, chewing seeds and smacking asses is all he knows.
listen to this stubborn bullshit
Phuck me.
Sabean should have nought to do with it.
Who would want to come to work under those conditions? What, Sabes is going to oversee his own transition outta there? Why can’t this organization just cut cords and move onward, upward. It’s like they’re afraid of anything new. WTF?…
so let’s hope Sabean’s fading, as everything suggests that he is. On the pregame interview, Pavlovic’s questions were pretty good. Baer had a PR spiel ready to spew, but Pavolic managed to get him to answer to a few things. A new hierarchy — the new GM reporting directly to “ownership” (and not to Sabean) — was the most interesting response, I think. We’ll see.
some comic relief. #fakeacquisitions what a dolt

I can barely think about politics anymore. The fact that Trump is getting 2 scotus appointments while his administration is tarnished with a thousand blemishes is disgusting. We are going back to the 1859s.
Trump always doubles-down on his own rottenness. As a sociopath, he’s completely tone-deaf to human decency.
Jesus. Tried and true?
Amd that fan. Jesus, it isn’t 12 below in Green Bay,
The Giants need to end meaningless things like giving Dusty Baker a fake front office job. All this PR jive. It just needs to end. Quietly end Righetti’s fake job.
They just didn’t have the guts to let Sabean go. So Sabean and Bochy get to be lame ducks next season. That’s gonna be fun.
Sabean next year may look like Magown in 2008 as Neukom took — on their way out, courteously. And who gives a shit about the PR jobs? I’ll bet a PR job paid for McCovey’s knee surgeries and bought him some new clothes to replace the ill-fitting ensemble he sported in Brooklyn back in the mid-80s.
I get the Mays, McCovey, and Clark positions. Mays and McCovey, definitely to give them income because of their huge contribution to the franchise. Clark does some coaching in addition to community outreach.
who cares? they have money to burn and they speculate on what moves may generate good will.
What if Dusty Baker is involved in personnel decisions in any way. Are you OK with that?
You’re motivating me to find the picture…
Dusty Baker’s day is full of smoking dope, fishing and listening to the blues. He won’t be making any business decisions.
Post of the Day nominee there.
Seriously sick of this crap.
If I were interviewing to take this new, pseudo GM job, I’d say I’ll take it with Bochy still around, but I get to hire ALL his coaches…
not if you’re rebuilding. If you’re rebuilding you don’t give a shit who’s managing this year
I think we are still paying Felipe Alou , , ,
That Longoria throw is the season in a nutshell.
Rockies are doing what they can tonight to take care of business.
What hurts them is losing 5 of 6 to the Dodgers down the stretch. Ouch.
According to the statement released by the Giants, they are looking for a new role for Evans because of course.
In a nutshell , the top GM candidates(and their plenty of good ones)are not coming here if Sabean has anything to do with undermining their authority!
This team needs a fresh vision for the future, not old retreads staying around for their final paychecks..
Bochy’s situation will be a negative vibe next season.
The Rockies finish with Phils and Nats.
The Dodgers have the D-Backs and Giants.
Pretty interesting.
Are the Giants going to delay Bum until the Dodgers? Is that even ethical?
Ethical schmethical. They’d better.
so according to a confusingly delivered explanation from Krukow just now somehow Gorkys got his nickname in honor of Maxim Gorky, the legendary socialist realist writer. (Madison Bumgarner, he added, may have been named for the guy on the $5,000 bill.)
I still find the idea that any salaries “hamstring” the Giants as a cruel joke. The Giants with yard paid off and development on the way have the $$$ to do whatever they want. They made a conscious decision to sign Melancon Smrdz Cueto Longo yada yada and know exactly how much is owed. They got the small market Pirates to fork back couple mil over Cutch and are splitting his remaining salary with Yanks.
Giants drew a line in the sand and said that’s all we’re paying out, imo in covert collusion with other teams who vowed to impose lux tax salary cap on this season
. Meanwhile, the Red Sox signed J D Martinez to long term deal. They are paying Hanley $22 mil, Pedroia $16 mil and are covering Sando through next year for zero production.
They owe Price $125 mil for next 4 ($30 mil this year) plus Kimbrel ($12+) and Porcello ($21 mil).
The $$$ doesn’t matter to them–its’ the quality of the product and theirs is on record setting pace.
Well said.

So, the manager that stands to lose 188 games over the last 2 years gets an endorsement to ride out his contract into the sunset?? If he loses 112 he’ll get ther perfecto 300 losses in 3 years.
I get the Bochy love, but really, that HAVE to do things different. Other than ye olde rearranging the deck chairs.
Jesus. The Niners are toast one more year. The Giants are looking at a 3 year slide into the 100-loss realm; I could give 2 shits about the Sharkies and their playoff el-foldo act.
The only thing we got is Warriors Lakers to keep things interesting over the winter.
Ball dude almost lost his.
Yep, it’s getting near Dubs time again.
I don’t know if they can make 5 straight finals appearances. The only team ever to do that was the Celts back in the Bill Russell days. I’d like to see it, though…
D-Backs’ bullpen completely ran out of gas in the last month.
A’s clinch a Wild Card spot. Congrats to those dudes.
Angels and Mariners get the sad trombone.
Nothing says it like the sad trombone.
If the A’s played the Giants 10 straight now, the A’s would win at least 8…
Jimmy G getting hurt just sucks. Giants 2.5 years of sucking shit but at least I had football to look forward to. For the love of God man step the fuck out of bounds!!!
PS Craig I love Tom Brady and the Pats (Not as much as the niners..).
They will win the east again. If I was a betting man I would bet the farm on TB12 vs the Dolphins. Until proven otherwise…Bet the champs!
