A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

A Perfect Friday Night

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 20, 2018

I don’t know about Craig Counsell or any of you guys, but I think it’s high time we see how many innings Josh Hader can pitch.

How bout those Brewers, eh? They give up a first inning bomb to post season magician Freese, and come on had that been the Giants giving it up it would have been game fucking over, and then they storm back and STOMP Loser Angeles.

Anyway, Game 7 let’s Go!!!!

J hit his first couple 3s too, nice game off bench. Great ballgame.

I think Chuck is right, LA wins closer to 40 games. If I was conspiracy person it would be believable NBA orchestrated LB move there–perfect for marketing. LB can’t lose–if they win it’s because of what he brings and if they lose it ain’t his fault. Plus he is in front of packed house where he can flex and pound his chest all he wants and spout whatever “we’re still learning” platitudes about rest of team failures.

Their outside shooting very suspect (7-30 in Portland LB 0-4). Other teams will out bomb them and dominate guard play. Rondo is weird guy who has burned bridges before and commands ball…too many mis matched parts for them to get by better teams in West, of which there are a lot.

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on October 20, 2018 at 9:06 am

agree on the mismatched parts comment. But Lebron has a lot more talent now than he had last year. If he can get Ingram and Kuzma to take another step, and I really think Josh Hart is underrated, then he could have himself a team this year….Ingram needs to shoot less,he will with Lebron around.
Ball is a lost cause, it was a dumb pick at the time and it will go down as one of their worst first round picks ever.

Read through Ron Fairly’s bio, mostly Dodger centric but does touch on his later career in AL and broadcasting.
One funny story (out of many): Koufax decided one spring he wanted to add a slider and said he’d try it on Aaron..”If it works on him it’ll work on anyone.”
So he throws one and Aaron hits it a mile foul. Aaron tells Roseboro, “Tell him he doesn’t need another pitch.”
Koufax said, “If Hank Aaron says I don’t need it, then I don’t.”

Altuve just had knee surgery. He wasn’t fully himself this season.

  5. zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on October 20, 2018 at 10:04 am

These finalist teams have so much heat in the bullpens. The thought of Melancon getting innings next season is a big bummer.

  6. zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on October 20, 2018 at 10:06 am

I’m not comfortable with Beuhler vs. Chacin. Counsel needs to have the quick hook ready, if needed.

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on October 20, 2018 at 10:13 am

oh i don’t think you have to worry about the quick hook, lol. Hader might throw 250 pitches today.

      • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on October 20, 2018 at 10:48 am

I get nervous about the promise of quick hooks sometimes. Dusty promised a quick hook ready for Livan in game 7. It wasn’t nearly quick enough.

      • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on October 20, 2018 at 10:49 am

But, Council is a different breed of cat, true.

Great job by the Crew last night. That bullpen is stacked with talented arms. As a Giants fan, I’m jealous.

I have no idea how the W’s pulled that rabbit out of their ass, but they did. First half defense seems to be a foreign concept to them and their head coach.

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on October 20, 2018 at 12:22 pm

it’s probably pretty hard to get these guys to give a shit about both ends of the court these days. Maybe Draymond, that’s about it.

Great name, Donovan Peoples-Jones, receiver for Michigan, nice touchdown catch and run.

Looks like David Bell is the favorite to be Reds new manager. So much for HIS re-tool of the Giants farm.
Somebody else takes that on now.
Maybe the Giants should have hired Bell as their new manager…

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on October 20, 2018 at 4:01 pm

Yep. A couple of reliable Reds sites have him as a shoo-in. Plus, Schulman tweeting Bell has eliminated himself from the Giants GM job (as well as from the Rangers manager’s position search).

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on October 20, 2018 at 5:49 pm

The list of potential gm candidates gets repeated by every beat writer now, although it took Schulman a while to catch up. Obviously the Giants aren’t telling anyone anything clear. Ng is still on every list although I haven’t seen evidence actually supporting the teams interest in her. Apparently an interview is “planned.”

    A Perfect Friday Night, indeed.
Justin Turner has his wrist broken in ST. They get off to their worst start since 1976. They lose 16 of 21 games at one point early in the season. They lose Corey Seager for the year, end up in 3rd place in September.
People who don’t know baseball say that if they don’t win the WS, it’s a wasted year. That’s idiotic. If they would have lost this game 7, I would have still considered it an incredible year after all the major injuries they’ve had to overcome. They’ve already exceeded my expectations this season. For me, they’re playing with house money now.
I’m just glad I don’t have to watch them play in that ridiculous excuse for a ballpark in Houston. Orange juice Park, or whatever they call that gimmick-filled piece of crap. No stoopid fake train in the outfield, no dumbass train whistle every time the ‘stros score a run. Thank Gawd.
