A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Sunday

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 9, 2019

Can’t remember a Sunday game vs the Dodgers with Bum pitching where we weren’t on ESPN. A good reminder of how inconsequential the Giants have become. We’re 17 games out of first place, I guess that’s the reason.

Let’s do the contest! Pick the first Giant to homer (hahahahaha) and the tie breaker is total hits and strikeouts for Bueler and Bum.

I’ll go with Pillar and 17.

What can we realistically expect out of Durant with but a single practice under his belt? This guy hasn’t played basketball or done any cardio in a month. And we’re supposed to expect he’s going to be productive? I’m not seeing it.

Giants picked bust and reported 2X positive test loser Phil Bickford 6 spots ahead of the Doghairs picking today’s starter Buehler in the 2015 first round. Nice scouting by the Giants on that one. At least they offloaded Phil (and Susac) for Will Smith, so Bickford was useful for that…

Bum’s held them to 1 run on 4 hits 0 BBs 3 Ks in 5 innings. No illusions, realize it’s gonna take a while for Giants to add in enough bats to score more often. Meanwhile, in order to stay in games with Dodgers and everyone else, pitching from SPs (and beyond) has to be good.
He’s kept them in game after Muncy bomb second guy up.

  22. willedav's avatar willedav said, on June 9, 2019 at 2:30 pm

Not counting Buehler Dodgers hitters are 4 for 18 vs. bum 3 singles 1 solo HR. Guarantee this is being scouted and noted by any team thinking they might face LA in playoffs.

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on June 9, 2019 at 2:36 pm

there a lots of scouts at this game, Lurie noted that in the pre game radio show.

      • willedav's avatar willedav said, on June 9, 2019 at 2:42 pm

7 solid held them to 1 run, good outing. Btw Muncy Pederson Seager Bellinger be nice for any team facing LA to have Smith too. He wiped them out in that first game for save.

  27. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 9, 2019 at 2:46 pm

This SHOULD be Bum’s final Giant’s outing.
Bochy should pull him after this 6th, don’t go to 7th. He’s held a hit happy Doghair team to one run over 6, he’s looked strong. Nothing more to prove to other teams. Nothing. Don’t risk injury. Auction starts in earnest now to the highest bidder and get it done…

What was the point in pulling bum at 86 pitches?

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 9, 2019 at 3:00 pm

Bum could just as easily pull or tear an oblique swinging for the fences given he knows his squad can barely score, as hurt his arm pitching in the next few starts before getting traded…

    • alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on June 9, 2019 at 3:05 pm

  31. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 9, 2019 at 2:57 pm

That’s 7 weeks of potential injury, pitching for a hapless, hopeless team. There’s no more August waivers trade period, so the July 31 deadline means a ton now. Kuichel and Kimbrel were the only top FA hurlers out there, they just got signed after the draft, Bum has to be one of the top pitchers on the block. More Bum starts for SF makes no sense to me. A fine, home start against LA to end his SF run seems a good way to go…

  46. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 9, 2019 at 3:58 pm

I don’t want to hear any more media crap about Giants needing pitching. The staff allowed just 4 runs in 3 games, yet lost 2 of 3. They need hitters. That’s why ZMan took 9 position players out of the top 10 round picks. And, 25 position players vs. 15 pitchers in the overall 40 rounds. Let those stats sink in compared to the past, when it was pitcher, pitcher, pitcher. Finally, they’ve figured out with a new GM that you need hitting and runs scoring development, because FA hitters do NOT want to come to SF. Pitchers will come here, if you pay them. Criminy, Flemm gave Player of the Game to Lil’Yaz because he hit a long fly ball for an out. That’s the current game MVP qualification — the out would have been an HR in most parks. Now bring in the fences in right center in the off season, and trade this staff pieces for prospects. They are 18 out of first, it might as well be 40. The turn around has started. It’s time to get young and stock the system…

They know once Bart is up, they’ll have to do something with Posey. Like when Posey came up, it was obvious they had to do something with BigTitty. I say give him another month at most at San Jose, then up to Richmond. If he clubs his way through that league the rest of summer, what’s the point of AAA. Just bring him up in September and play him. Screw the Fall League and FA timing crap…

  52. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on June 9, 2019 at 5:38 pm

Well the Giants sure took their sweet time with Posey when he 1st came up in September call ups, still giving Big Titty’s most of the AB’s in a losing season, which ticked me off about “The Boch Vet Syndrome Approach “ as it took to the trade deadline of 2010 to finally make their decision that Posey was the better option, and yeah no shit Maynard,as he helped take that pitching staff to their 1st of 3 W/S titles.Think Titty’s would of done that?
