A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Dynasty, Finally, Done

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 14, 2019

Watching Klay Thompson hobble back on the court and drain those 2 free throws is something I’ll remember the rest of my days…..

Losing in Oakland wasn’t the worst thing. It robbed those shitty Raptor fans the opportunity of celebrating on their home court. And the Warriors would have been blown out in that game.

And what’s left? Baseball. Lots and lots of baseball. Pom Pom tonight vs a stacked Brew Crew. This will get ugly early. Might as well fire up the contest again. $25 amazon gift card if you can correctly name the first Giant hitter to hit a bomb. Tie breaker is hits and K’s for the 2 starting pitchers. I’ll stick with my main man Pillar and 20.

I go Belt and 24…has anyone won this yet???

The Klay injuries is going to have a huge impact. I think it actually lends more weight to KD going elsewhere, especially if some team like the Knicks are stupid enough to give him a max deal. Actually hoping that happens and gives us that $31.5 million slot. I want Jimmy Butler…

Curry now 0-8 shooting in playoff games in the last 20 seconds, most in the NBA in the last 20 years…

The gift card has never been one, an indication of how weak our hitters are.

      • willedav's avatar willedav said, on June 14, 2019 at 7:31 am

the day games did get skipped over per your rules and at least once no one picked the guy who actually did homer. Not to excuse lack of bombs but they have won 3 of 5 on homestand with well pitched games.

  2. djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on June 14, 2019 at 7:31 am

Why the fuck not go after FA’s Ozuna who everyone loves and Puig who almost everyone hates and at least have a semi interesting team next year that could even hang around for awhile if things break right?

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on June 14, 2019 at 7:34 am

not to mention be lot less honky. Be nice to see Z do something to upgrade the OF til Heliot Ramos is ready.
No reason to keep Shaw waiting much longer either, let him and Austin split LF and hope some bombs happen.

      • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on June 14, 2019 at 7:43 am

Shaw and Austin should absolutely be platooning. I’m kinda *meh* on a big Ozuna signing. Too much cash, won’t meet expectations. It’s also a waste of time. These big FA hitters are just going to use SF for leverage until the fences come in. Facts.

      • gianthead's avatar gianthead said, on June 14, 2019 at 7:58 am

We will have so much cash to spend starting next year Ozuna will hit plenty at the new Oracle…

      • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on June 14, 2019 at 8:03 am

These 2 guys plus a new manager (Tom Goodwin!), staff, ballpark configuration, announcers, etc might energize our vets a bit and who knows, the team could pop up out of nowhere from the doldrums like it did in 73, 78, 82, 93, 97…

    • gianthead's avatar gianthead said, on June 14, 2019 at 7:57 am

You stealing my thunder Loo…I suggested couple weeks ago exactly that scenario. We can overspend on both to overpay and Duggar set in CF.

I guess it’s early, but it doesn’t seem like there’s any talk about Bochy’s replacement. I don’t want Bam-Bam next season. It won’t clear out the stench. He would’ve only made sense to me as an interim this season to see if he’s the guy…

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on June 14, 2019 at 10:32 am

Highly doubt bambam is being considered. He doesn’t seem like the analytic guy Z is going to install as his puppet

  4. willedav's avatar willedav said, on June 14, 2019 at 8:21 am

Loo, read something in Chron A’s mailbag questions from Twitter there are some A’s guys Z would know about that he might consider for Giants, bench coaches and Mark Kotsay and Eric Chavez. Wotus Bam Bam, these guys have to go. Let the new broom sweep clean.
Whatever happened to Willie Randolph? Is he still in game, managing or coaching somewhere? Felipe Alou still has an office somewhere and I wonder if he has any input with his DR and latin contacts.

Sorry I can’t hear his name nor the sound of Brian Murphy’s voice without thinking about Felipe Alou.

    • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on June 14, 2019 at 8:25 am

I was all for Randolph years ago – thought he did fine for the Mets, but for some reason never got another chance. He’s medicare age now and out of the game for awhile far as I know…

This is a wild one. Double-A Richmond got no-hit through 9 1/3 innings and then won 1-0 on Jalen Miller’s single. Runner who scored from second was placed there because it was the 10th inning.

    • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on June 14, 2019 at 10:53 am

Terrible rule, I agree. Or at least make it the 11th or 12th inning in these minor league games, and never do it at the MLB level.
Fortunately it didn’t come into play at the game I saw last night. It was a fun game. Crack of the bat, pop of the glove, and all that. A couple of HRs, and some nice defensive plays. A great reminder to me always that baseball is better seen at the ballpark than on TV.
Smallish crowd at the ballpark last night, though. Maybe people stayed home for the basketball game, or maybe it just reinforces your point.

    Modesto Nuts Baby!🥜
Is that a nice park to watch a game?
I seemed to only go to Reno Aces game which is a cool park downtown, kinda patterned like Snoracle with the red bricks and a train track behind the LF wall.I know it’s AAA and these guys are good, I just wished the Aces were a Giants team instead of the D-backs maybe make it better to root for them.
Same with the Nuts? Who are the Mariners affiliate?
Guess it just comes to big deal it’s baseball and all enjoy it with a cold one and hotdog..

Problem with these AAA tesms (at least when I was in Roseville going to RiverCats games) is they were charging big league prices for beers/dogs. Tickets were cheap, but the rest of it wasn’t.

The Stockton Ports and the Modesto Nuts are Single A in the California League, along with the San Jose Giants.
The Nuts’ ballpark is OK. It’s a real old ballpark and has its charms. I had a nice seat behind homeplate for $10.
The Modesto franchise has wonderful history. It’s been affiliated with the Reds, Cardinals, A’s, Rockies, and Mariners over the years. Rickey Henderson and many others played there. The only two numbers retired are #1 Sparky Anderson and #26 Joe Rudi. Rudi grew up in Modesto.
The A’s changed affiliation to Stockton when Stockton built a beautiful new Single A ballpark.
Modesto did some upgrades to their ballpark, and the Rockies signed on with them.

I saw Supertramp at the Olympiahalle in Munich on a balmy night in early October 1979 on their Breakfast In America tour. Great show, really good video and props support for an arena show, given that it was back in the pre-digital Dark Ages. During last week of Oktoberfest, too. I was traveling around Europe, post-college, and met this girl in Munich from Bloomfield Hills, MI. Little Rich girl. Figured after we went to the concert, we’d hit a pub in Schwabing and then afterwards, well, you know. Well, at least the damn beer was really good…
