A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Dicky Does It

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 22, 2019

Honestly, I had no idea who Alex Dickerson was. He’s played in the big leagues too, I usually have a pretty good recollection of everyone if they’ve played a recent full season and he played a halfway decent half a season with the Padres in 2016. In one game he did more than Duggar has ever done in his career. That’s quite the indictment of Duggar. He and Pillar were easy co-players of the game….

    I’m kind of impressed…

he’s been much better than I thought and an outfield of him, Pillar and someone who can hit 30 bombs would be rad.

I’ve been impressed with Yaz too. Something happen to Sandoval last night or just a regular sub?

Took one in the ribs, but it was more jersey then meat.Think it was the Giants, and he has said it’s more difficult to swing RH with the pinkie so when D-backs went with a lefty they pulled him for Longo..

All are outfielders suck so what’s the point?
Dickerson lost out on 2 straight years with Back Surgery&TJ so I admire his determination to get back and hopefully contribute, not like the 63 other outfielders the Giants have run out their in LF since Barry retired..

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on June 22, 2019 at 12:14 pm

I’m not saying any other outfielders should be getting his innings right now. Just that he sucks. Like all the rest of our outfielders in AAA since 1980

I’d like to see every damn OFer the Giants have in the system, AA and above, up here this season. Why not? They’re saving them for trade bait? Everybody knows SF’s farm system is in shambles. Duggar is the best they’ve got? All glove, no hit. At least Lil Yaz has some pop, and he can field, and he’s got some speed…

Chapman for the A’s hit one the other way today…the way the ball is jumping is ridiculous. Dont remember too many balls going put the other way back at the old Stick..

    At least Posey is playing.
No chance, but I’d like to see an in-depth article by one of these beat writers about what is wrong with Posey. Hip? Ankle? Just whole body fried already at barely age 32? Is this guy doing anything for the Giants, really, that some C making 1/4 as much could give? Bart can’t get here fast enough. I’ll take Vogt easily right now as a hitter over Posey. Bart and Garcia going forward as the C corps would be fine with me…

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 22, 2019 at 6:08 pm

Doghairs have been winning the division for 5 straight years, heading for 6, so they’re drafting consistently in the bottom parts of the rounds. Yet, their system is ranked as one of the top with talent, and Giants farm is dogmeat. That is the main indictment on the the SabEvans brain trust after the 2012 Series. They drafted a bunch of stiffs, constantly…

Even as a young Flavor I picked up on his dooshness that day. Dude knows literally nothing about sports, he just shticks everything. Good riddance.

That wipe-out of Buster back in 2011 probably did more to shorten his career (or at least effectiveness) than anything else. That was just horrific. He was *lucky* it happened while he was still young, the body will still heal at that age; if it had happened within the past couple of years, he’d probably be done. But even being young (and he did return to effectiveness for a few years), not sure he was ever going to physically (and maybe also mentally) return to the high level of promise everyone had for him. Add the recent hip surgery, and yeah… it’s possible he’s pretty much done as a productive hitter.

Last year I listened to Vida explain for a good 10 minutes why *the best hitters are in the top 4 spots in your line up*> You wouldn’t think it would take him that long, but it did. And then Laskey pulled out the newspaper and started reading the lineups from the day before, he read off at least the top 4 of ten different mlb line ups, and was like “Boy Vida, you’re right!” It was the dumbest radio I think I’ve ever heard in my life and I’ll never forget it.

Coupled with his RBI single in that contest, Castillo’s RBI double on Saturday made him the first player in MLB history with an RBI streak spanning more than 10 years”. Keep on keepin’ on…

I give a positive review for the TV show Stranger Things. Very well-done show, and it’s good to see Winona Ryder get a good comeback role.

      Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding!!!!
Well done Kat! Mike Freaking Ivie brushed the ball totally into foul territory just like Coach Brooks taught us!

        Am I just completely shot?
What is the point of brushing the ball into foul territory?
Once you touch it, it’s fair…

I think the key words are “once it went foul”, not while still in fair territory. I’m guessing once you touch it in foul ground, it’s a dead ball… not sure though

      • sandog's avatar sandog said, on June 22, 2019 at 9:20 pm

I may have typed it wrong, but the technique is to brush it foul once it goes foul to make sure it stays foul. And I think the logic was that if you tried to totally pick it up, you might lose control of it and drop it back into fair territory.

      • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on June 22, 2019 at 9:23 pm

Unless it was already in foul territory and he just made sure it stayed foul.
        Did I figure it out?

Zumie–that is George that John is goofing with at the end of that fine tune—-correct?

Was it a walk-off? I think it was. Against the Dodgers, I know that.

I give a positive review for the Triple Bonus Jack from Jack in the Box. I’ve always preferred the Bonus Jack to the Jumbo Jack and was very bitter when it was eliminated from the menu years ago. Thankfully, Jack brings it back from time to time. Love the special sauce.

Lee Oakland Lacy leadng off and playing 2b for LA, Dusty in there too. In front of 56 thou on Sunday, must have been very cool.

Went to see Pirates when lacy was there one afternoon early ’80s. On way out walking down toward parking lot this gal noticed I had 3 ring Pirates hat on and said to me and my buddy she was his sister Veronica I think.

Billy North PH for LA too, always liked that guy. One year he went off in SBs for the A’s who stole like 200 bags that year. Despite all the other a-holes, LA did always have some cool players. Reggie Smith could really hit.

When we’d go over to Sacarmento in high school, a big highlight was going to Togo’s on Arden? for a hot pastrami.
I actually had one in Woodland not long ago, but it didn’t seem as good as the ones back in the day from Sac-town.

Dawg thx for that box, tremendous. Terry Whitfield with 4 hits, Clark the Count mike sadek. Randy Moffitt (whatshernames brother right?) with 3 shutout innings for the W. Nothing like LA/SF game at Stick.

You know A’s are drawing 15 thou a game at the O, even when teams like Stros are in. They are everything Giants are not–good solid young players/lack of old fart high priced vets, plenty of guys who can hit bombs, plus some diversity and good mgr. and they can’t draw anyone to watch them play.
